Wet weather moves through the Coastal Bend causing delays and power outagesAñadido:
Good morning. Very busy in the weather department. Um if you didn't know, we've had rain overnight early this morning.
>> Uh let's just get you started with a look at all of our weather alerts because there's a lot happening right now. We have a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 7:45. That's going to be in these orange boxes right here, including Corpus Christie, Portland, Cinton, Rockport, up towards Beville for wind gusts as high as 70 miles per hour and even an inch in diameter hail. We also in this red box including Matthysse Corpus Christie Rockport very similar to this orange box have a flash flood warning in effect until 8:15 because we've already had a lot of rainfall this morning. There is more flooding especially here in Corpus Christie. What is new is a flash flood warning for Bee County and parts of Livo County. This one is going to go until 9:00 in the morning. It is all thanks to this main line of thunderstorms that's rolling through Beville, Rafiio, Corpus Christie right now, working over towards the island. It is this leading edge that is the worst of the weather. Behind that main line of thunderstorms, we're still tracking some rainfall adding to our rainfall totals. Coming up in a few minutes, we'll talk a little bit more about when this worst of the weather will push out of here and when the sunshine can make a return.
>> Okay, Kellyanne, thank you so very much.
I'm sorry. I am updating our power outages which a lot are coming in but we are following active another active early morning wave of storms across the coastal bin with heavy rain, wind and thunder passing through possibly flooding as well.
>> Our Lexis Green joins us live with a closer look at conditions. So close I can hear the rain on her. Good morning Alexis.
>> Good morning Barbie. Good morning John Thomas. That's right. We wanted to show you exactly what's going on out here in the coastal bin. So we drove towards the storm. you could say. We're out here right outside of Kell Allen, IH37 McKenzie Road, right past the Veteran Cemetery, actually. And so the storm, it was mighty, it was loud, it was tons of lightning, tons of rain is starting to trickle down a little bit as it moves closer into Corpus Christi. But there is a, you know, the conditions out here are very, very dangerous. I saw some people on social media, they pulled over for some relief, and they said this is some of the worst weather that they've driven in. And so we want to let you know if you're with us right now on 3 News Plus, if you're streaming, if you don't have to get out on the road, please don't.
Let that flash flood flash flood advisory pass. You just saw some lightning strike up there. I hope my photographer is getting that.
Oh, that is some loud. The sky is mad this morning, that's for sure. And as we mentioned, there's already been some storms that round, which means whatever flooding we experienced earlier, it's likely to get a little bit worse. We are out here live. Mackenzie Road and IH37. We're also keeping an eye on your schools. So, as of right now, we know that Flower Bluff decided that they were going to keep it on schedule. Matthysse ISD did announce 2-hour delay. And we did get some breaking news coming from the Harbor Bridge that they are cut shutting down the northbound IH37 lanes to the Bayfront. This is for safety precautions until some of this weather lets up. Be sure to follow us on air and online as we bring you the latest. Back to you guys.
>> Thank you, Alexis. Yes. Uh, we do continue to keep a close eye, as I mentioned earlier at the top of the show, power outages from this storm right now.
>> Power outages are affecting many of your neighbors. AAP is currently reporting more than 10,888 customer outages and 300 plus outage cases.
>> That's right. Uh, we continue to take a look at AAP's map. Uh, let's keep it there for a second. That's 309 outage cases. Uh, Barbie mentioned the customer outages, over 10,888.
uh looking at their map just going by district by county. I mean, this storm is really knocking out power. And some of the areas that we saw last week, uh, again popping up. We're talking about Mac, the cheer place, over 219 customers there in the London area. Just north of that, 527 outages closer into town, the west side of town, 1,644 customers. And that looks to be uh in the central city area near the Delmare Western campus. Uh you notice that orange over the screen is uh the storm passing through. AP layers their maps when they show you current storm status.
Uh the actual spaces that are lined out show the swath of the outages that are impacting there. But more and more homes uh popping up in this latest wave. The wind coming through uh our studios uh opening our doors automatically uh blowing wind in this area. So you can imagine as you saw Lexus lightning strike. It was a loud boom out there with her live shot. So, uh, with that, let's move on to the next story because we got earlier reports that CCAD, the Corpus Christie Army Depot, was on a 2-hour delay. That means, uh, they're not opening up until 7:30 this morning.
>> The delay comes for first shift this morning. Uh, base officials asked you to be safe on our roadways.
>> Again, CCAD not opening uh, until 7:30.
So, you have about 30 minutes. long lines and we know that fly over gets backed up and long lines at the gate. Uh people are already joking about be sure to bring the donuts. Uh but be sure to bring your rain gear as well. We'll see if that changes at any point or time if that's been extended. Uh but be safe on our roadways and drive Texas their map.
Uh things are looking pretty smooth.
Again, that one area there's a risk of roadway flooding danger over off of the Crosstown Expressway over to SBI and the fly over there. And Lexus mentioned it earlier, but downtown I37, uh, if you're coming out of that area, the underpass there is currently shut down. Uh, so if you're trying to get into the downtown area proper, uh, that's going to be blocked off. You're going to be rerouted.
