Weather forecasting involves analyzing atmospheric conditions to predict temperature changes, precipitation patterns, and weather system movements across different regions. Cold fronts bring significant temperature drops and wind direction changes, while weather systems originating in polar regions can travel across areas, bringing rain, snow, or mixed precipitation depending on elevation and air temperature. Forecasters consider geographic factors like elevation and regional geography to predict how weather systems will affect different areas differently.

NEWS CENTER Maine Weather Video ForecastAdded:
The pressure is on to soak up every little bit of today's weather knowing what's coming our way.
>> Absolutely. We are going to turn cooler, but there are some improvements to Sunday's forecast.
>> I'm intrigued to hear about this.
>> Yeah, I think Sunday we may be able to salvage part of it, which would be pretty nice. out there now though it is really nice 78 degrees out over Casco Bay looking toward the headlight from South Portland and in Kataden right now Milanakad area is still 75 but north of there the cool air has arrived it's only 55 in Caribou 65 in Holton to the south of Kataden though it is much warmer and the wind direction this afternoon should be coming around to the northwest that's because a cold front's coming through and that will change the wind direction and bring the warmth right to the coast this afternoon then we're going to be into a cool pattern here for the next several days. So, this afternoon, there's a chance a shower bubbles up, mainly in down east Maine. I think the rest of us are dry with temperatures that make it into the lower 80s for many. This evening looks really nice and it'll still be mild for a while, but later this evening, it does start to turn cooler. I think that by morning, most of us are down in the 50s and there likely will be a few showers even tomorrow morning in spots. Not going to rain all day long, but it's a largely cloudy day. just some breaks of sun and there could even be a little small hail out of any of these little cells that develop in southern Maine because the air will be chilly aoft like pe-siz hail. Nothing significant but a spotty shower or downpour will be out there through the afternoon. Again, much of the time not raining but there will be a few drops in spots. Chilly tomorrow in northern Maine only near 50. We get into the lower 60s through most of central Maine and then mid60s over southern Maine. Again, showers may be a little bit more numerous in southern Maine during the day tomorrow. Then on Friday, we're right around or just over 60 in most spots. I think most of the morning on Friday is fine, but there will be a rising chance for showers later in the day on Friday. Kind of a strange setup for Friday and the weekend. Really vigorous system that actually has origins in the Arctic Circle. Will dive southeast and track over the region Friday night into Saturday. So that will bring uh rain to many beginning late Friday into Friday evening and the exact path of this will determine who sees the most rain. But right now it looks like New Hampshire, western and southern Maine likely gets the most Friday night into Saturday morning. And given the air is so chilly a loft. There will be some snow that falls in the presidential range and perhaps the western mountains of Maine. Uh this is the time of year a lot of people think about hiking and hiking does not look like a good idea on Saturday because you'll encounter winter conditions above above about 2500 or 3,000 feet. Now the rain should start to taper Saturday late into Saturday night and we think this now moves away enough that Sunday we may have a little sunshine particularly in the morning but it's still chilly enough so we could bubble up a shower or two Sunday afternoon. But of the two weekend days, we're thinking Sunday is going to be the drier one. Where that heavier rain tracks, there could be 1 to two inches of rain. It looks like northern and eastern Maine gets the least amount of rain from that system as it comes through on Saturday. So, it's more of a western Maine than New Hampshire steady rain. So, there's a look at the next seven. Nice out there this afternoon. A cooler one tomorrow with a few showers around. I think Friday morning, we have some sun. Rain comes in late, wet for Saturday, but some improvements for Sunday. Maybe just a popup shower around as that system pulls away. Brian, >> that feels like a significant improvement. Actually, we can get Sunday morning at least.
>> Great. I agree, Ryan. Thank you.
