The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) is a Star Wars spin-off movie directed by Jon Favreau, set after season 3 of the Disney+ series, following Mando and Grogu's mission to rescue Rossa, Jabba's son. While the film offers family-friendly entertainment with solid performances and visual effects, it fails to deliver the epic cinematic experience expected of a theatrical Star Wars movie, feeling more like an extended TV episode rather than a proper film. The reviewer criticizes the predictable plot, lack of lightsaber fights, minimal female character representation, and the absence of an opening crawl, ultimately rating it 2 out of 5 stars as a disappointing but not terrible movie.

The Mandalorian And Grogu Movie ReviewAdded:
The Mandalorian has become so big that my local bakery is selling Mandalorian cookies. I mean, that is awesome.
The Mandalorian and Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau, the founder of The Mandalorian, and is the 2026 spin-off movie of the hit Disney Plus Star Wars series The Mandalorian, and tells the story taking place after the events of Mandalorian season 3. And of course, after And of course, after the fall of the evil Galactic Empire, where bounty hunter the Mandalorian and his son Grogu are given a mission by the New Republic and are ordered to rescue Rossa, the Hutt Jabba's son. But can Mando trust Rossa's aunt and uncle?
I'm sure Star Wars did that plot before.
Once upon a time, I just can't put my finger on it. I have a fan on in my room as it is so bloody hot today in my country. It's over 30, so summer is here. But if you're from the UK, too, I hope you're also keeping cool, and uh yeah, nonetheless, I am doing this review on Undertale, and because I love you all. The Mandalorian has now become one of the biggest and most merchandiseable Star Wars properties of period. I see more Mandalorian helmets now than Boba Fett helmets and even I even got my my pal Grogu mug for Christmas and like I said the Mandalorian cookies my local bakery are absolutely delicious. But the Mandalorian when it first premiered on Disney Plus when Disney Plus first became a thing in 2019. It was Jon Favreau's redemption after that stain on his reputation that was Lion King 2019.
But and the first two seasons were pretty awesome but season 3 was uh so underwhelming and uh but I was uh both optimistic and skeptical about a Mandalorian movie at the same time as well we haven't had a Star Wars movie in 7 years now I didn't literally since the 2010s concluded and throughout the 2020s Star Wars has just been restricted to Disney Plus. The shows are which uh is a pity because Star Wars really does shine on the big screen and 7 years later Star Wars is back baby and it is this does this feel like the first two seasons of Mandalorian or season 3?
Uh I'm afraid it feels like the latter.
What a disappointment. The Mandalorian and Grogu is simply meh and one of the the weaker Star Wars movies. It pains me to admit it hands down the uh biggest disappointment of summer 2026 cuz Star Wars is not supposed to feel like a TV movie or movie that should go to Disney Plus. It's supposed to be an epic movie cinematic event. Say what you will about the sequel trilogy, I still think that trilogy is way too over hated and the toxic sequel trilogy haters, some of them that call it the worst thing in existence and cyber bullied the cast for it need to touch grass. I made an entire video defending the sequel trilogy, but at least they were epic cinematic events and they felt very much like movies, but Mandalorian Grogu, it's just an extended episode of The Mandalorian. You can tell this was initially going to be season 4 of The Mandalorian, but Lucasfilm did not learn from their mistakes of the past. Just like The Clone Wars 2008 didn't work as a movie, Mandalorian Grogu also doesn't work as a movie lacking cinematic feel. Oh, Jon Favreau, seriously, man, you you still haven't made an actual good movie since Shep the 24th thing. There's still a fun time to be had with Mandalorian and Grogu. If you want just 2 hours and 10 minutes with Mando and Grogu on a fun adventure and some fun sci-fi action and the odd heartfelt moments and a a solid performance from Pedro Pascal.
You are going to be satisfied and the kids will love this. This is the movie to go to movie this summer to take your kids to see with Grogu. This is a more family-friendly Star Wars aimed movie. The visuals are all marvelous from the practical puppetry to the CGI and the Star Wars galaxy is still one of my absolute favorite universes to spend time in regardless of the quality of the film.
And all the new beasts in this film are weird. Do I get to some pretty hardcore looking ones in the arena fights with Raxa and even a Hutt fights in in the third act. And a serpent in the piss of the Hutts. And at least this film did give Raxa a bit of character development, the fully grown version, how he's not like his father and he does form a sweet friendship with Grogu. But other than that, this movie has little else to offer and uh uh I I and yeah, it does feel like Mandalorian season 4 just stretched into a movie. And the pacing, my goodness, did that second half drag and go on a bit. It's And it's too long at 2 hours 10 minutes. And Sigourney Weaver's character Ward from the Rebellion, if you were hyped to see her in this movie, oh, you will be let down because she is barely in it. But in fact, there are barely any female characters in this movie at all.
Why? She should have come on the mission with Mando and Grogu. You know, that that that how much better would would that have worked out? You know, the They could have been an awesome trio. But no.
You have a legend like Sigourney Weaver who's just who's still crushing it as Kiri in the Avatar sequels and you do nothing with her. And as much as I was entertained by this film's action, yeah, it's underwhelming.
We don't get a lightsaber fight. I know the Mandalorian shows didn't have a lightsaber fight, but this is supposed to be a movie. It's supposed to up the stakes and go bigger. A a Wars movie with no lightsaber fight is always a downgrade in my eyes and some of some moments in this movie really bar re-hashing moments from prior Star Wars, particularly the plots. Why do we need this narrative of saving Rosta the Hutt again? We already had to sit through that in the 2008 Clone Wars movie and uh seriously, do we need to see Imperial walkers on a snowy planet again? The part in the second half that they really over dragged out was making us think the Mandalorian was going to die after he'd been poisoned by the giant snake and Grogu was looking after him and I'm like, "We know Mando's not going to die. Disney would never kill off Mando because then there would be no more Mandalorian and no more merch to sell." Though the plot did feel incredibly predictable in that regard and uh uh also Ludwig Gรถransson's score, yeah, okay-ish, but uh it it just it just feels like every other score for a Mandalorian episode and uh it ain't a patch on what John Williams did with the Skywalker Star Wars movies and of course there's no opening crawl with this film. And an opening crawl for Star Wars like the lightsaber fights is a key ingredient. So overall, The Mandalorian and Grogu, yeah, uh this really uh should have been just a Disney Plus.
By no means a terrible movie. I still had a good time watching it with my friend but uh uh but yeah, but don't expect peak Star Wars because it's really not. And who agrees the Darth Maul series is a way better than this. I give The Mandalorian and Grogu two stars out of five.
Meh movie. So, yeah, the force was weak with this one, but hey, at least Star Wars returned to the big screen at long last.
All right, love you guys. Thank you for watching. I hope you guys enjoyed this review. What are your thoughts on The Mandalorian and Grogu? And uh do you prefer this or the sequel trilogy? I'm personally on the sequel trilogy side completely, but please comment and let me know. Please like this video and subscribe. Please follow me on Instagram. And I'll see you all next time when I rank the Star Wars movies in my updated ranking, which I haven't done for 7 years now. And remember, movies are awesome. Bye, guys.
