The Oromo people of Ethiopia, numbering over 40 million and comprising the largest ethnic group in Africa, developed the Gada systemβa sophisticated indigenous democratic socio-political structure that organized society into 40-year generational cycles, with each generation assuming leadership roles in a structured sequence, ensuring power sharing and governance without formal elections. This system, maintained for centuries, divided life stages into formal grades (Delli, Guma, Gumauro, Guma, and Guma), with each grade having specific responsibilities and rituals, representing one of Africa's most advanced pre-colonial political institutions.

Whenever they dance, they dance in a very uniquely way of their own dance. living mostly in the fat land known as to the to the human being. Welcome to Aromia land.
>> Among these is the Ormon nation. The Ormon nation belongs to the cusidic linguistic stock since 1991. The Oromia region state has been established within the federal government of Ethiopia.
Oromia is the largest as well as the most populous of all regional states of the country. Adrisaba or Finfin is the capital of the Oromia region as well as that of the federal government of Ethiopia. In Oroia, agriculture is the dominant sector of the economy. Most of the Tulama and Macha Oromo are farmers whereas Borana, Gabra and Karu Oromo are pasturalists and Guji, RC and itu are agro pastoralists.
The Ormo are known for their remarkable indigenous democratic socopolitical system known as the GADA which they have kept working until today. Gada divides the stages of life of individuals from childhood to old ages into a series of formal stages. As soon as a child is born, he is recruited into the appropriate party which is 40 years behind his father and joins the first grade named Delli. The DeLe are sons of Zagaklas who are in power as leaders of the Ormo. The Debelli grow their hair long and decorated with Cory shells.
This hairstyle is known as Gudu. At this age, they perform light work and are confined around their parents' hearts.
The mothers of the Deal are greatly honored. Their blessings are sought by women. Dale Ali, may you give birth to the belly and enjoys a variety of privileges among the society. The Borana are a pastor's ethnic group living in southern Ethiopia and northern Kenyan parts of Isol, Marsabit and Moyale. The Borana are one of the resulting groups of Romo migrants who left the southern islands of Ethiopia in 1500. Borana, a dialect of a Roma language which is part of the Kushitic branch of the Afroasiatic family of languages.
Debayu is an annual ceremony that showcases and define the cultural identity and indigenous belief system of the Boran people. This ceremony is held after the long reigns as a thanksgiving for their abundance and also for prayers to protect them from any calamities in the future. The junior gam joins the third grade called the senior gam or gamuro which opens without any formal ceremony. The boys mark their passage into the grade with a slight change in hairstyle. That is the shaven part of their hair would be smaller than in the previous grade. The senior gummy learn hering cattle and may now go long distances and take their family herds to river valleys in search of good pasture which they call it for. During the last 3 years of senior gaming they go from camp to camp singing, feasting and collecting members of their class. This ceremony is called wii or to see each other and or feast. The spears that are held during the celebration are used to decorate the traditional singing and dancing and to demonstrate their cultural heritages and not to harm others. In the transition ride from the third to the fourth grade gamusa the boys sang songs of ga passage known as moma are aitic ethnic community they living the ruland part of the Tobia spread all the way to northern Kenya mabit isolu and tan river they speak kushetic language which is afroetic the population is more 4 41 million people and among the the largest ethnic group in Africa. The third largest estimated >> be in southern Egypt and northern Sudan where they may have arisen through contact between the portoot a motive from the valley ancient natuians who came into Egypt from the Levant and East African hunter gatherers. Their closest cousins are the Somali and their far people. According to YDNA analysis by Herbo in 2011, around 82% of Oram in Kenya carried a pattern E1 B1B HLO group. This lineage is most common among local Afroiatic speaking populations.
The percentages will vary amongst different Oro depending on their location. Oro are a heterogeneous group and many are mixed with other groups such as the Somali, Nyot, Habesha and Omotics. As such their DNA is quite varied and they have an extremely wide range of phenotypes depending on which location they live. Father of the Aroma people was Arma. The two sons of Arma that is Borama and Bentu give rise to the two ethnic groups of the Aroma people. Bentu are found primarily in Ethiopia. The Borano live in southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya. Historical linguistics and comparative ethnology studies suggest that the Aroma people probably first settled around Lake Cuba here and Lake Chamo. They are Aushetic people who have inhabited East Africa, specifically the area south and the east of the Bali mountains since at least the early first millennium. The aftermath of the 16th century Ethiopal war led [music] to the Oro moving to the north.
The Romans increased in numbers through assimilation as well as the inclusion of mixed peoples. The native names of the territories were replaced by the name of the aroma plans who settled on it while the indigenous people were assimilated.
Beautiful women. The aromas have some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Their faces are symmetrical, long and slim with wonderful eyebrows. Their complexion is a gorgeous caramel shade of melanin. Their smiles are intenting [music] and their movements when they are dancing are graceful. When they smile, evidence of divine touch in their creation is clear. Many have long feminine hair and they proudly swish it in the air when they dance. Oromo ladies like other Ethiopian ladies are easily the most beautiful women on earth. They know it [music] but they also know that outer beauty may fade with time. So they are beautiful on the inside too. They hold on to traditional values and may be perceived as conservative. This in this age of toxic wokeness and feminism is actually a good thing. Many Somali and Oro look indistinguishable due to dictates of Zinflow as well as common crashic heritage. The Gabra people of Kenya are another Aroma speaking Saba tribe with a heavy Somali influence.
Aromos largely live in the more fertile southern central and western Ethiopia.
There is less food insecurity and basically it's not as difficult to acquire as they are for habisha or somales. The majority of the Roma people are farmers. Almost 90% [music] of them live in rural areas and work in agriculture. They are known for producing coffee and pulses. They live in some of the most beautiful fertile lands in Ethiopia. A small percentage, specifically the Borano Romos, live as mads and keep traveling while tending to their animals at the same time. Aroma language is an Afroasiadic language that is written in the Latin alphabet and has a very complicated phenology. Unlike other languages in Ethiopia like Amharic, Oromo is a macro language which can be defined as a group of individual languages which are closely related to each other and are considered as a single language in certain contexts. The first Oro radio broadcasting station was not even based in Ethiopia but in Moadishu. The ban on the language would only be lifted in the early '90s and that is why the Aromo speak it proudly today as an act of resistance. More than 35% of Ethiopia's population are Ourromo or mothertime speakers which makes it the most widely spoken primary language in Ethiopia. It is also the most widely spoken Kushetic language and the fourth most widely spoken language of Africa after Arabic, Husa and Swahili time.
Oroma people have been persecuted and discriminated against for various reasons. There are documented human rights violations against the Aromo in Ethiopia under three successive regimes.
Most of the Romo families had to change their names to Amhara to attend school.
Both peaceful integration and violent competition between Oramos and other neighboring ethnic cities such as the Amhara Sidama and the Somali adversely affected politics in the Aroma community. [music] Debayu is an annual ceremony that showcases and define the cultural identity and indigenous belief system of the Boran [music] people. This ceremony is held after the long rains as a thanksgiving for their abundance and also for prayers to protect them from any calamities in the future.
This ceremony is done at Buri Ran in Solo Marabid County.
The site lies in the vast sacred area where other important sacred sites like the sacred grave of Borun noco is located and also where the gadamoji shaving ceremony which only happens after 8 years is held.
The ceremony is a three-day long activity with distinct and equally significant rituals and a complex belief system.
The inception is the dubayou followed by the ulugo passing through the path and finally the buuk ceremony traditionally prepared maze that is done on the last day.
Makosi adi who is from karayukes sab clan heads the ceremony. In case of his absence any other member from his clan can precide over the ceremony.
Dayu is a cotton razor done on the third day of the sixth month of the year after sighting of the new moon.
>> Seven elders under leadership of Mosaic Kosi Aadi perform the debay.
Early at dawn, each of the seven elders will do certain rituals at their homes before they all converge at Makos's house. They will then proceed to Buri Uran site where prayers are done.
At the Buri Uran, they do pray as they suit the branches with fat and milk.
When all of the seven elders come back to the homestead dawn in the attractive traditional [music] regali of roof, Aurora and Liu, they pass through the cattle bomber entering from the right side while singing.
They walk in a straight line and they coy at the front.
>> They will go around and come back again passing through the cattle bulma. They then head to Makos's house but they are not allowed to enter immediately till after Makosi has performed certain rituals inside.
In the house, the wife prepares a mixture of milk and ID branches on a traditional stool, then positions herself in one corner of the house.
Zakosi enters and washes his face with the milk that's prepared for him, signaling a go ahead for the wife to come out from the corner she had placed herself.
After this is done, the other six elders are now allowed to come in. They leave their auroro at the entrance of the house and go in one after the other to perform certain rituals.
Locals done and every has passed through. Women proceed to Buri to lay branches, put coffee berries and tobacco and smear fat on it as a sacrifice to pray and get blessings. They then converge to start singing kar songs praising men and fine tunes of traditional banana genre.
>> [singing] >> Now women and children leave as the is over while elders remain behind to wrap up with final rituals.
Elders settle under brewery tree pronouncing tasty tessonaga shoes off with ok tobacco coffee berries and fat one after the other offer prayer smearing fat on the branch and back of brewery laying branches of Eid putting tobacco and coffee under the brewery upon each elder making prayer leads the joint prayer to bless the day's activities They leave some meters away and sit down to observe a ritual to symbolize blessing of rain. Here they squat and pretend to urinate while holding their private parts shouting lolas.
Then they leave the sight singing Roban Sigal.
While slaves were a straightener within the society, many aromas regardless of cast were sold into slavery elsewhere.
By the 19th century, aroma slaves were sought after and a major part of slaves sold in Gond and the Galabad slaves markets in Ethiopia Sudan border as well as the Masawa and Tojura [music] markets on the Red Sea. There was also a large slave market at Alheda on the coast of Yemen. In the evening before sunset, women fed Gali and a Gumi tree to take home. They then placed them on each side of the cattle bomber and homestead. Gala is also laid on the entrance as a sign of blessing the bulma and the kettle.
This is done by women only.
Late in the evening when the cattle come back to the bulma, another ritual is performed. The crawl is enclosed by the first born of the family and all milk that had remained during the day's ceremony will be poured on to the largest bull in the bulma, also known as kor in Borana.
If the bulma has no corn, the milk is poured at the scent of the bulma since the entire ceremony is done for livestock and signifies the large quantity of milk which they expect to collect after the prayers.
In the evening, women prepare bulock which is a mixture of fresh maze and millet. This will be cooked overnight in preparation of next day's bulock is observed on the third day. Fire is lit very early in the morning at the cattle bomber with a hard still in the bulma.
Then bulock which was cooked overnight is brought and placed on the fire and fat on top is removed gently using cooking spoon and given to kosi who applies on his novel and that of his children.
He then applies it on bume a traditional door for the cattle bomber and also to the largest bull inside the bulma before doing the same to the remaining as a sign of blessing them all.
Then bulock is added ugo milk and oil.
The first wife always does bulock preparation. But if it is a polygonous family like it is in the case of zosi otherwise you'll just be present to help if need be but don't fully take charge.
A mat usually made of animal skin is brought and laid on the right hand side of the cattle bulma used by women to simmon.
Afterwards, cowdang is brought and kept on the right hand side of the fire. It is spread to form a flat shape and bulock is poured on it before anyone is given to eat. A call will then be made by the head of the house to neighbors and people around to come and eat bulock. He will then sit at the right hand side and bulk serve to him first.
After he's served, other people present are also given their share. All people eating the bulock are not supposed to clear everything in their plates. The remains are collected in a bowl to be preserved for women who will eat them through the day since men are forbidden to eat the remains of bulock. Men are not allowed to eat leftovers. It is a taboo. The wife will then crack coffee berries using her teeth, wash them and puts them in a pot, then places them on fire and adds cooking oil to fry them until they are ready. It's then kept in a core, a traditional wooden bowl with milk. Then the senior most of the people present is served first.
