Will It Start? We Rescue this Forgotten FreightLinerAdded:
Hey guys, welcome back to the channel.
As you can see, we dug it out.
Hey, watch this right here. I had a 14-year-old help me dig this thing out and he was an excellent fellow bunch of operator. Of course, he's been running one ever since he was probably eight years old. So, he can do it. But he told me his first time he had experience on moving trucks. And I said, "Well, that's all right. I appreciate you out here helping." So, I won't give Eli Cobb a big shout out, a future logger, I'm sure.
And here's the way that went.
Well, we got something happening over here on the trucks.
actually sold this cutter not too long ago to this guy, buddy of mine, Cobb Brothers Logging up here in Andalusia, and he has took this thing and got just little old things fixed on it. Couple of more things that needs fixing, but that's 14year-old Levi in this thing driving it. And we're headed over here to move some of these trucks around.
of where the Peter build and the freight liner is and get them ready to see about and haul out whatever we going to do to them.
We don't have far on this pavement to go.
Probably less than a mile.
That was the only thing I was concerned about is him driving it.
But his dad said he'll be fine. And I can guarantee you he can drive that thing as good as any uh body older than him.
He's been driving one since he was about eight.
That machine will run about 12 miles an hour. 15.
Scoot on down the road.
We have made it.
That ought to move them, ain't it?
We're going to move this truck. But we're going to try to shove it right back where we got it. So we just have some room here.
Get some of these other trucks out the way.
Levi, we making just back it down a little bit too >> where we might need to we move that one.
We'll get this one moved. See what we need to do. Let's just go on forward with it like like we had planned.
That young man loves running equipment.
You know, he's 14 years old.
I told his dad, "Might as well take him out of school."
I know that sounds bad, but I guarantee you this kid right here is going to be running equipment.
Put it right there where it's supposed to.
We're going something come loose.
Okay, it's not going to work. He had boy. He's hung up now. Come on.
All right. Put it down.
Come on.
Perfect. Perfect.
That's okay. Run low, boy.
All right, let me check this out.
All right, he looks good. He's getting her now, boy.
Oh.
All right. Here we are. We're going to try to get this one out.
Hopefully those vines are just laid down. I'm going to watch out for them. I got a bush axe in my truck.
We'll cut some of them out the way if necessary.
All right.
ho ho.
I know he can't hear me, but that's what I don't want to do right there. I'm going to have to go get the the at bush axe. Yeah, I heard that popping and snapping. And I'm going to cut that before it messes up the cab or attempt to anyway.
It don't take long to want to stop doing that.
Can you hear me in there?
All right. And I'm going to try to I'm just going to watch just ease it back a little bit.
And I yell real loud. Just listen for me to yell.
He's back.
Look at the vines coming up top.
Look like ow like power lines.
Have you ever Have you ever seen anything like that?
Wow.
Levi did a most excellent Eli did a most excellent job of maneuvering this out of here.
I don't see where we're doing any damage at all.
But here's one thing I did see.
Transmissions out of it.
That's not good.
But yeah, exhaust still standing up. All them vines hooked up to it. Well, we may have just broke one little glass mirror, but that's all right. Rest of it looks good.
Looks good.
Let's see. Maybe can pull this one out.
I don't know if it's growed up into it or not. You watch that chainsaw and you're standing up there. Yeah.
Dang.
These are some of the longest vines I ever seen.
Yeah.
See if you can get back down.
Don't push it.
>> Is it smoking?
All right. Out of there now.
Here it comes. All right. Now, take your Here, let me see your wrench here. All right. Let's We got to move that where they've been spraying ether in it, I guess. I don't know what rub.
Well, I guess it was rusted out right there anyway. Come on. See if it'll break. Be good enough.
Probably.
All right.
It was rusted out right there. But we did miss a brace.
Uh we had trouble. Trouble getting it out. This tire just come off. We didn't hurt anything. It just dragging the ground. Nothing was damaged.
Uh, it looks it looks really good, don't it? Honestly, it it is a good looking truck and it's going to clean up so good.
I'd hoped to get this truck out because I had bought this right here down at Sarah off a marketplace and it is going to be help to what we do about these trucks rescuing these trucks uh on this low tiller handler. Check this out. Been on marketplace but I just got through trading with the man on this 644 L. It's got a little issues now.
It's not perfect. That main boom cylinder right there is leaking.
It's got a bladder issue.
This cylinder right here is seeping a little bit. Can live with that, but probably going to have to do something to that telescopic part pretty quick.
This leveler cylinder right here, it kind of lets it get unlevelled, which makes it just look awful.
We got both of the I'll show you them in just a minute. We got all that that goes with this. He replaced this cylinder, maybe the rod. He's packed it.
Uh he's done some packing on the steering cylinders.
It's It's been down here around the Gulf of America. Got some got some uh salt issues. Got no brakes. Shocking, isn't it? No brakes. There's the seat he was going to put in it.
But he put a couple of new tires on it.
I believe that's a Perkins engine.
It was a little low oil. They got electric fuel pump on it.
I've run it around before I bought it. I didn't have my camera out. I was out here dealing with the man talking to him about it. I can't find the serial number off of it. So, I had to use the serial number off this axle just to have a a reference about what I'm doing. And you can see it was made 1110 of 80.
I got I asked Siri what the 644 weighs and it said like 22,000 lbs.
I guess lows are a little heavier than the other uh teleandlers but what it needs servicing. I know we need to do it find a breather cover.
It's got that's just where the oil's leaking in here and you can't have that.
That's got to be fixed when you lift it up. How the oil comes out down the boom and gets over here and makes a mess.
That's going to have to be fixed for sure. We're going to have to service it.
Uh it was a little low of oil. So instead of adding oil, I'm just going to drain that oil and and put some in it.
Uh probably need some hydraulic oil.
He's had some bosses built and he's got this on there backwards. That that'll go the other way. But what we're going to do with it is just pull those old trucks out, get them ready to load, and we'll fix that. That's going to be hard to fix. I know that's going to be not easy on that telescopic boom, but we're going to get it. And I know we're gonna have some hose issues because this thing is what uh 47 years old, but it's just getting broke in.
The battery was dead, of course, when we got here this morning, but he had jumpers on it. Let's see.
Let's see what it'll do.
But I think this right here is the first part of the puzzle we need is this so we can handle those trucks and get them to where we can get them to the stop. Got both of these with it. I think this is one that actually come on it. All right, we're here picking up this L today. I got Goodyear Record Service out of Enterprise to get it. Uh they have always treated me fair on the rates and they've got something to get it with right here. Look at that stabilizer right there.
I've never seen that on one before.
We're going to try to get this one loaded and we're going to try to put the freight liner on the back.
Maybe we'll be successful.
I'm going to go be getting it while he's getting it ready.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
are heat.
Well, y'all can see we didn't get the big truck. We'll get it next time. Well, we got over here where the truck was, and he thought it was too wet, and it probably was.
It cost me a little more money to try to get here and do this, but anyway, I was hoping to get two for the price of one. I only got one for the really price of one, but you know, I just doing what the record driver suggested. And uh but that's all right. We'll just send another recorder after it. I got a little more in the Taylor handler than I wanted now, but that's all right. Hopefully, it'll work out. Here's the third thing.
I actually didn't buy this. I was able to do some work for it. Took me about two months. I've been working with him over a year, but I just go down there in the afternoon when he needs something and was fortunate enough. He said, "Take this right here. You want this?" I said, "Yeah, but I don't know how in the world I'm ever going to do enough uh mechanic work to pay for this thing and I got a camper with it. He said, "I ain't worried about that. You just take it." I said, "Okay."
So, it's a 3500 Duramax. 350,000 miles on it. Not too bad.
Not too bad at all. I ain't got all my stuff in it yet. Air conditioner works.
That's a plus.
Got the fifth wheel hookup. Of course, you can tell there it's a fifth wheel camper. Bought the batteries with me.
But this will give my other truck which has got 350,000 miles on it to rest.
Enough of that. Let's get on this truck and Oh yeah. You'll see me uh dress differently throughout the video. It took me about four or five times to get down here and and get this video. So, the first of this video, you'll see I'm dressed different than the last of the video. Today, y'all come along and let's see what we can do.
Today, I just thought about today I'm going to go over it. Uh, I'm going to see if I can stick some batteries in there and see what the engine does. We already know that the transmission's missing out of it. And I'm sure there's some other things that I'm about to find out about it that I never could get to in the bushes. But I tell you what, that right there about tripping old man, old dirt claw.
But this is just a I I just like these trucks a lot. I like that windshield.
Uh that long windshield.
I do see a I do see a crack in it, but that'll be all right.
But what we're attempting to do here is rescue these trucks. And this is our first rescue. We We are a poor rescue team, but we're trying to get there. We did get it out of its tomb over there really. They brought it out here in the sunshine. It's first time it's seen sunshine since 26 years. That's a 20 thou no 24 years.
That's a 2002 tag.
been parked. I don't know how long I had it on the road, but it's a good looking truck. It really is. It's in good shape.
It's going to clean up real good. I got a feeling it's going to clean up real good. But let's take a look at it real quick and just see what all we want.
I don't know that we ever checked the the vitals in it, but there's the there's the water.
Here's the oil. I think we did check the oil in this thing, but we'll check it before we start it.
I think they replaced the door at one time because the blue stripes missing off of this side.
We did damage the the mirror. I'm sure we did that. Not for sure. Not for sure, but pretty sure we did.
But we had to take the exhaust off right here to uh get it down so it will go on that detach.
And of course, you know, we did the wind scoop that way and the air breather, the breather intake.
Well, you can see that it now now you can tell that all that rusted out.
That's how long it's been sitting.
There's the battery cable ends right there.
So, that tells I'm right here beside the highway. That tells me the battery box.
We're sitting right here on top of the transmission right here.
So, we're going to have to figure out what to do about that, which we will.
The cab jack is froze up.
What is this right here? Have y'all seen anything like that?
Probably going to have to just get a wrecker to come get it now.
Lift up the front end.
I know these road, but we'll have to cage these brakes right here. These are the parking brakes.
And uh yeah, both of the cage things are missing, but I got some or I'll get some before we move.
You know, Reiko suspension was was the suspension back in the day, I guess.
But this thing's got aluminum outside wheels on the rear.
I I'm I had been in here.
Let me go check it out. And I seen Jack had trouble getting the getting the uh or he never did get the driver's door to open up, but he and Jacob's been in here.
Looked like it had a 13-speed transmission in it at one time.
They got a place for the CB and a little strap to hold it in. That's old school.
They was went and smokers and couple of screwdrivers there.
Look like it might have had a power takeoff on it. I don't know what that button would have been for.
Let's see if I can figure out how to maybe get this door open.
It was just locked. it. Let me see if I can get one of these screwdrivers.
Oh, it's star.
Let me see. I didn't f with it long, but I couldn't get it. But hey, it's got a key in it. And I think we're gonna hook these batteries up and see if we can't just get find out if there's anything uh to that engine.
Well, I don't have far to go with the two batteries to try it anyway.
I'm going to do this the easy way.
All right. Well, let's see if it'll make any noise up there. I hope I got it hooked up right. Anything going to happen?
Look at there.
Oh, I went to hit the clutch. There ain't no transmission in it. Let's see.
Yeah, I know you're low.
way the horn works.
All right, I'm going to get up there and bump it.
Y'all let me know if y'all see it moving any Well, let's see.
I burnt my post off.
It did look like it sort of kind of moved, but it's always something. That's There's $120 down the drain. That was not a waste of $120. Covenant Heavy Duty swap me out even.
Hey, look. If you live in South Alabama, Panhandle, Florida, y'all stop at one of I guess there's seven or eight of these locations coming heavy duty. I usually use the one in Andalusia. Y'all stop by and do some business with them.
I believe that that engine I spent over. So I come back down here this morning in the DY the new service truck and I'm going to put four batteries in it or at least three and I'm going to see if that helps spin it over and find out where we are exactly on the engine.
Y'all stand by while I get these batteries hooked up. I'm going to have to cobble on these. taking these off. I just don't like where the rubber and all right there. I don't think it gets a good uh connection. I took the ones off of the ground.
Got them on there so I don't get them messed up. Now I'm about to try to get the ones off of the pot about to go over it.
All right.
Got it.
I'm going to try to give this thing the best opportunity to start.
I don't have that battery boxed in there, but that's so much easier than trying to lift it up if I can make it work.
I hope I got that one. I do.
All right.
Batteries hooked up. See what it do now.
All right, I got them cobbled in there.
Got them tight.
Let's go see if this makes a difference on the start and see if we can get it to spin over and bust loose.
Transmission's out. Y'all actually sent where the transmission is.
Let me see if I can get out this whole one.
I had a loose wire, a loose post that I didn't You can see it's turned already from that white spot.
So, it's not locked up. Let me see how it spins over.
Let's give a little squirt of ether.
Wow.
I thought it was going.
All right.
I was able to get my starter my starter uh button hooked up.
And I believe with that I didn't just knock it loose.
All right.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Oh, listen that thing build up with air.
This thing's ready.
All right, I'm going to try to run it a little bit more off of this and see if I can get it to pick up.
We know it's going to run.
That's a positive thing.
We had two Patreon.
I don't know what you're calling, but we appreciate it. And I thought I would have your names or either your Patreon names. Hopefully, I can type them in.
But remember, we got a Patreon account set up. If you want to help save the trucks, it's much appreciated. But the main thing is is stay with us and watch the videos cuz this is what we're going to start doing. I'm out of breath. I've been toting batteries and about the time I got ready to leave, I remembered, my little light was here somewhere.
If I can get to it. There it is. So, yeah, that was handy. I could see what doing about hooking up that starter button.
But, I believe it's going to run and run good. Uh, I don't think they're gonna show us anything here, but you can see if we are I can't get to that part.
Air conditioner still hooked up.
I'm I'm uh I'm pleased to say the least.
I wasn't pleased. The next video we're going to have this thing wrecker out of here, getting the cab over, cleaning it up, getting some fuel to it, running it, and hopefully maybe can find a transmission and stick in it and driving it around.
That's what I hope. Uh, and then hopefully then we can find a buyer or or somebody to take this thing off our hands so we can get the money to buy another one. Hey, thank y'all for watching. We appreciate every one of y'all. Appreciate all the comments. But remember, don't be wy.
