[00:07:00]Nashville, Tennessee is my I guess my US home. But I was born in Ghana, West Africa. Born in Ghana, West Africa. Then we moved to Norway when I was about a year and a half. Then in 1999, we moved to Nashville, Tennessee. So that's where all this Tennessee Nashville love comes from. And we moved around a little bit after that. And then we settled in uh Cobb County, Georgia. I went to college in Alabama. I came back to uh Georgia for grad school at Augusta University.

[00:07:30]That's where I earned my DMP degree, doctorate of nursing practice. Then I went to Virginia to do forensic psychiatry for 16 months. While I was in Virginia, I started posting videos on Tik Tok and then I went viral. I kept posting more videos. I kept going viral and viral and viral and viral and then this big brand started moved to California and we just took it to the next level. So for people who wanted some background information on me, the new folks, that's some background info on your boy. Uh people asking uh if that's my girl in the videos, they're skits. These are skits, guys. So, the skits are made to educate y'all.

[00:08:10]You know, I am an actor. I'm an actor as well. People are like, "How many jobs do you have?" I got a couple of jobs. I got a couple of jobs. I'm a doctorally prepared mental health nurse practitioner. I'm a content creator. I'm a writer. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian.

[00:08:25]I got to keep seven different jobs on me. I don't get tired.

[00:08:34]I was in southern Virginia. Should a neurody divergent person date other neurody divergent individuals? You don't have to, but if you have somebody else who's neurode divergent, I think they would understand you better. So, for example, the main actress in the videos, um, Emily, she has autism and ADHD. And I have ADHD for sure, autism potentially. But because we are both neurode divergent, we have a lot of chemistry, which is why people keep asking us if we are a couple. They keep asking us if we're married. so on and so forth. So, I would imagine that um we could date, you know, we understand each other because of the neurody divergence and also we're pretty good actors. So, you know, maybe in in in a certain world, we could date. And let me address this real quick. Somebody said, "Did the Seattle show get cancelled?" So, no, the Seattle show did not get cancelled. It was never confirmed. We were this close to confirming the date for Seattle, which is July 16th. and something fell through with my team. We weren't able to book that show officially. So, before I get into the top seven ADHD dangerous addictions, I do want to apologize cuz I don't like when things are announced and, you know, it doesn't go according to plan. So, that was on me for jumping the gun and getting excited to do the show in Seattle. And we're still working to book a show in Seattle/ Tacoma. and some people have mentioned Spokane, other places like that. We're still looking to book shows in Washington State. So, thank you for your patience and I'm sorry that we weren't able to book that show in Tokoma specifically.

I avoid many vices. Although, I do admit I smoke lightly. I'm a sinner. Hey, hey, hey, Victoria.

[00:14:02]Victoria, relax. Relax. Don't call yourself a sinner now. Okay, now we all do. I think the Bible says we all have sinned and fallen short. So, all of us got a couple of things that we're working on. So, don't be too hard on yourself, Victoria, because you had a couple of drinks or, you know, know you pumped a little bit of that gas. Don't be too hard on yourself. Okay, let's talk about these dangerous addictions with ADHD and break down how somebody would find themselves in this situation.

[00:14:35]Number seven. Top seven dangerous ADHD addictions.

[00:14:43]This one I think I think this one can surprise y'all. I hope it does. Number seven, work.

[00:14:51]Work, work, work, work, work. Kind of like the song work, work, work, work.

[00:15:00]Top seven dangerous ADHD addictions.

[00:15:04]Work.

[00:15:05]We have this ability to work and work and work. And sometimes we'll push ourselves past the point of exhaustion.

[00:15:15]And I am one of those people who does this. I am able to work even when I'm burned out. Even when I'm tired, I can work. I have found this to be in my brain a healthy addiction. And it's not a healthy addiction. Of course, you know, more money is good and more purpose is good and the more businesses that you feel connected to, all that stuff is good. But sometimes we use work as a way to escape from the things that are actually going on in our lives. And I'm looking on TikTok and somebody says, "My sister's a workaholic." That comes from Christina. Stephanie says, "I'm a workaholic." So somebody can relate to it. Then Stephie says, "I literally started a business because of this." If you like to work 258, starting your own business would satisfy that. Because when you work for yourself, you are never off the clock, which is one of the frustrating things about working for yourself. When you work for somebody, the work day ends at 5 or let's say you work second shift ends at 11:00. You work the graveyard shift that ends at 7.

[00:16:22]You work 12 hours, 7 to 7. All right, cool. But when you work for yourself, the day never ends. And you have to find a way to artificially end your day. This has been a real struggle for me. It's been very hard for me to figure out how to end my workday because sometimes I have some of the best ideas come to me at 11:34 p.m.

[00:16:47]And I know this has frustrated every every woman I've dated, you know, cuz if you live with you, or at least for me, you know, if I'm living with a woman and I'm I'm up late around 9:30, 10, she's like, "Hey, I'm going to bed now. I'm going to bed and I'm like, "Good night."

[00:17:06]She's like, "Come to bed with me." I'm like, "I have work to do. I got work.

[00:17:12]Like, I have work to do. I can't just go to bed right now." She's like, "Well, I'm going to take off my pants." I'm like, "All right, okay. Okay, fine.

[00:17:18]Fine. If you take off your pants, I'mma come I'm going hop in bed. If you take off your pants, but generally speaking, I got to go back to my work because when I have an idea, I have to bring it to life. And I can't not bring it to life.

[00:17:31]So, it's hard to end a day when you you work for yourself, but work is one of the biggest addictions that we have. Um, work is among the most pro-social. Yes.

[00:17:45]Love of the show here. The reason why this is a tricky one is because nobody would realize that it's an addiction.

[00:17:52]Cuz if you're working a lot, people are saying, "Oh, this person's going on a money run. What's wrong with working in this economy? working a couple of extra jobs, having extra money on the side.

[00:18:02]There's nothing wrong with working more and more and more. Those things, two things can be true at once. All right, you can work cuz you want extra money and you want to take care of yourself.

[00:18:12]Zo, you want to leave? All right, I'll let you leave now. You can leave, baby.

[00:18:21]She like, I want to go play with my toys.

[00:18:26]But yeah, what was I saying? People don't look down upon the person who works a lot. And in fact, if you work a lot in America, you get rewarded for this. They call you a champion. They call you a a workaholic. So, we have to figure out how much work is too much work. I think that's the the the question for all of us. How much work is too much work? Sarah says, "My husband does this and loves it. Even when he had set job, he was always working on side projects as a software engineer. is just who he is. And Sarah, I think that one of the reasons why your marriage works is because you understand him and you don't try to change him. I love that last sentence. Another love of the show.

[00:19:14]Another love of the show. Another love of the show. You know who your husband is, so you don't try and change him. But like I was saying earlier, we have to figure out how much work is too much work. because at some point it does become too much work if you're burn the candle on both ends. So it begs the question, how much work? It's too much work. We got to figure that out.

[00:19:40]Uh let me see.

[00:19:42]Someone figure out says I have to delete the work phone app. Sometimes I'll be on it even responding to patients at 10 p.m. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. you. Sometimes it helps to not keep your work phone on you. And look, if you don't work for even if you work for yourself, you need to find some way to end the workday. But especially when you don't work for yourself, you have to find some way to have this clear line of demarcation between work and the rest of your life.

[00:20:12]You got to do it. You got to do it. But I mean, you don't have to, but it would behoove you to do so. Let's just say that. And if I have to break out a word like behoove means that I'm serious.

[00:20:26]Behoove. Behoove.

[00:20:29]Look at that vocabulary. We're behooing today. Allison says, "I'm now 50. I've worked my body to the point of breaking down. I had three jobs at once at one time." And unfortunately, hard work doesn't always lead to what we want. If hard work yielded the best results, then I guess ants would be the most dominant animals out there, you know, dominant creatures. But hard work doesn't lead to everything that we want. And sometimes at least a burnout. And if you are familiar with my content, you know how to define burnout. I've mentioned it multiple times. Burnout is working very hard on the wrong things. you do that for long enough periods of time, you can hit neurode divergent burnout or autistic burnout, which can be incredibly dangerous. And that tends to come with a lot of skill regression, which is embarrassing, needing help as a fully grown adult. So, we have to, like I said, we have to know when it's too much. We have to know when it's too much. And I agree the reward for hard work is more work which generally is a good thing if you like your work but you have to figure out how to like delineate okay like am I at work now work mode home mode work mode home mode and this is why I said work from home is a trap when you have ADHD because the good news is that you work from home but the bad news is that you work from home so you have to be very regimented when you work from home when you have ADHD HD. Yes. Stress in the body. Stress is the number one killer, guys. It's stress. It's stress. Now, not stressing out about certain things can also be bad because you can be blindsided by stuff, right? But stress in general is aging all of us.

[00:22:18]Look, look at me. Daddy got some gray hairs right here. And I'm 33.

[00:22:25]We're getting older. It's stress. And you can have good stress because I like the reasons why I'm tired every night.

[00:22:34]I'm I'm happy to be tired every day because I like what I do. But still, you know, it can age you. It can age you. It can aid you. And somebody asked, uh, what is ADHD/ autistic burnout? Great question. Neurode divergent burnout is what is what happens when you go too long without getting the proper support that you need. All right? And the proper support could be in the form of um somebody helping you with communication.

[00:23:03]It could be in the form of financial assistance. It could be in the form of somebody helping you with work accommodations. It could be in the form of having family support during a hard time. But you go too long without the support and uh you you could burn out and neurody divergent burnout can take you years to recover from. So be careful.

[00:23:25]Oh yeah. So that's what daddy likes.

[00:23:28]There's always a couple of women at at different junctures in my life calling my daddy. There's a couple of them.

[00:23:35]That's a couple of them.

[00:23:39]Uh, in my opinion, working hard should be revving the engine when needed, not red lineing it when it's on the cruise.

[00:23:45]If we can get to this, we'd be doing good. If we could do this, this is how you would want to do it. It's kind of like those um uh the hybrid cars. Have y'all seen those cars that are hybrid?

[00:23:57]when you stop, let's say you get to red light and you stop the car, then all of a sudden, you know, the engine is quiet and then when you have to start the car again, like you hit the gas, then it revs up. So, think of your energy as a hybrid vehicle. You know, you need to know how to turn it up when you need to turn it up, but we shouldn't always be on. We shouldn't always be on. You feel me?

[00:24:44]Number six, drama and conflict. Drama and conflict. All right. And this tends to come a lot of times from boredom.

[00:24:54]All right. Being bored in general is not good when you have ADHD because sometimes you look for things to things to fight about. You look for arguments.

[00:25:05]And sometimes when we're underst stimulated, we will argue with people and we will look for drama, things to distract ourselves, things to make us feel something because feeling something is better than feeling nothing.

[00:25:17]Being bored is not a good thing for us.

[00:25:19]We shouldn't be working all the time or we shouldn't be on all the time, but we shouldn't have a lot of free time. A lot of free time is death to the person who has ADHD. Cuz what do you mean I have all this free time? I can get into whatever, whatever, whenever, however I want to do it. Yeah, that's how you get into trouble. That's how you get into trouble. Too much free time and being under stimulated for long periods of time, you'll find yourself in drama and or in some type of conflict.

[00:25:51]And now look, conflict makes for a good story. Every good story, you need a little bit of conflict. And all the skits that I do, you know, we need to solve a problem. So we need a little bit of conflict to allow ourselves to come to a resolution. However, when you are looking for drama, when you're looking for conflict, it gets pretty addicting cuz that's a really quick way. It's a really quick way to stimulate yourself. It's a really quick way to stimulate yourself. Unique Glee. Cheryl says, "I love your videos.

[00:26:26]I'm RDHD." Cheryl, I appreciate you. If you have autism, ADHD, you are in the right spot. You're in the right spot.

[00:26:34]Synchronicity help says, "Oops, I do that." And look, if you are somebody who starts arguments when you're bored and underst stimulated, it's important to recognize that this is what you do, but it's not who you are. Okay? There's a difference. It's what you do. is not who you are. Cuz sometimes you'll associate somebody with, you know, a bad time or this is somebody who's always looking to argue. This is somebody who's always looking to just, you know, start some mess. I wouldn't say that that's no.

[00:27:03]Look, it could be you. I don't know. It could be you. But generally speaking, if we're talking about things from an ADHD perspective, just being bored and under stimulated can make us seek out dopamine in ways like this. And sometimes you feel like when you're talking about drama or you're, you know, recalling somebody's situation or whenever you're arguing about something and the argument comes to a close or you feel like it's come to a resolution, you have a sense of accomplishment. You feel like you figured something out when in all likelihood you probably haven't figured anything out. You just started an argument. You sorted you gave yourself a problem and then you found a solution.

[00:27:43]But we could have avoided all of this by avoiding the drama.

[00:27:47]We didn't have to get involved with this person's situation or that person's business, but you got into it. Then you solved the problem at hand. Now, it gives you a false sense of accomplishment cuz yes, you did accomplish something, but you're really just right back at ground zero. So, we can conserve our energy and figuring out different things to do, redirect our energy to more productive things or or even just to rest.

[00:28:16]The 45 minutes a day that you spend arguing, meditate. That will change your life. I promise you. You take the 45 minutes daily that you argue and you just meditate and sit there and do nothing and look at the wall and gather your thoughts. Yeah, you would thank yourself for that. You would thank yourself for that. And synchronicity says, I started with my husband.

[00:28:53]What do you mean by a fake skit? What does that question mean? What does that question mean? The skits are made with a lot of love. A lot of love. An overabundance of love. I go to great lengths to get those skits. So, I wouldn't call I wouldn't call them fake.

I don't know how much of a hot takeake that was. They have Wimbeyama. Like, you know, obviously anybody who has him, they have a chance. But he said, "Oh, the Spurs are going to beat the Thunder." And he says when the Spurs are down 3-2, and then when they won the last two games, he was like, "I told y'all." I'm like, "Bro, nobody was arguing with you that the Spurs weren't going to win. They have a 7 foot4 freak.

Speaking of the show Nashville, um my cousin said that when I made a joke about boobs, about about liking boobs, my uncle laughed. That was one of the highlights of of my night cuz my uncle's a you know, he's a very pre like proper guy. Like he's, you know, by the book, you know, doesn't really BS or laugh a lot. So, uh, to find out that my uncle was like me and that he likes boobs as well, uh, was very heartwarming. That made me feel really good. Made me feel really good.

[00:33:30]All right, the fifth addiction. The fifth dangerous addiction, guys, for ADHD, doom scrolling.

[00:33:39]This one could have very well been number one. This could be number one right here. It's not, but it could be number one.

[00:33:48]These phones, These phones are the problem, guys.

[00:33:55]The phone was the problem. People were right. The phone was the problem. Do I need one more wife? Uh, I'll I'll talk to the the four that we have in the house. And if the if the majority vote for an extra wife, then we can get an extra wife. Um, but the phones are the problem, guys. If y'all look at how much screen time you average on a day-to-day basis, you will be shocked.

[00:34:19]The reason why a lot of yall not shocked is because you don't keep up with how much time you spend on the phone. But if you looked at how much time you spent on your phone, you would be shocked.

[00:34:27]There's a lot of time that goes by just scrolling on the phone. And look, I I feel hypocritical saying all this because I make content on social media and I I make revenue off of people's, you know, watching my videos and and sharing it and views. So, I want people to watch my videos. I want to have millions of views that it's like a hundred we're close to 200 million monthly views on social media now, which is crazy.

[00:34:56]know, we've averaged 150 million monthly views across platforms for almost a year now. So, we're getting close to 200 million monthly views on social media, which is crazy. So, thank you for the support and thank you for watching and thank you for sharing. And I definitely will continue to give y'all the, you know, the absolute best of me when it comes to content. But, we have to figure out how can we, you can't consume everything. You got to pick a got to pick a couple of favorite creators. Pick your Dr. Cojo, pick you somebody else that you like. Pick you a couple of things and find your side of the internet and then get off the internet. Even for myself, I got to get off the internet. It's too much. I mean, I'll scroll to get inspired creatively, but after a while, I got to get off the internet. I have to get off the internet. Oh, Coco, of course, I remember. You have a good memory. [00:36:11]And and ghost people. If you scroll online and especially if you taking the rage bait, keep in mind that content works off of an algorithm. All right? So content works off of algorithms. So any prolific content creator, myself included, is pretty good at something that we call hooks. So you figure out what the hook is to reel somebody in, pun intended, and then either educate them or entertain them or hopefully both. All right? But when you know how al algorithms work, you know that people will put out content intentionally to rage bait folks. And if you consume this content, it can make you upset. You know, it can have your mood up and down, left, right, and all over the place. So, we have to be careful with how much time we spend on the internet.

[00:38:02]So, content is is a powerful thing and it's it's what I do. But even as somebody who posts content consistently, I have to separate myself from the phone. I have to separate myself from the phone. And I've made a much more intentional effort to to get off the phone. I don't think I'm doing as good as I could be doing, but um my goodness, the doom scrolling is getting out of hand. Is getting out of hand.

They wanted the different styles. But one format that people keep referring to, people keep coming back to this format is the ADHD, autism, and agy skits. I would probably say that that's the number one style of video that people like because everybody is always like I love it when you you show ad autism then ADHD and RDH. So this right here I will not stop this and in fact I'm making I'm making uh a couple of these videos this week. So um yeah see I love those it those videos going to come. I I got I got I got a lot in the chamber for y'all. I got a lot in the chamber for y'all. Yep.

[00:41:35]If you don't plan things, guess what happens? You do things at the last second. If you do things at the last second, you're going to be in a hurry.

[00:41:43]When you're in a hurry, you tend to speed. When you speed, you get speeding tickets.

[00:41:49]Boom. You got to pay extra. When you're in a hurry to go to the airport, you get the Uber that'll get you there the quickest. Boom. Extra money. When you realize that you didn't plan appropriately for something, let's say you got to the airport and realized that you didn't have what you needed. You didn't eat today. Now, we're going to buy this overpriced food. Oh, I don't have any headphones. We're going to buy these overpriced headphones at the airport. Everything costs so much more money when you do things at the last second.

[00:42:22]I know because I fly, man. I fly so much, but I get my flights at the last second, which is not a good thing to do.

[00:42:29]I And look, I have a team. I I could I could do better. We We have done better.

[00:42:35]We we've done better and I'm proud of the progress that we've made, but the impulse spending and the shopping and the the Door Dashes and the Instacarts and the Amazon, especially Door Dash, especi Door Dash fiends in here.

[00:42:54]I just know it there's a couple of people in here who are some Door Dash fiends. Door Dash, Instacart, Door Dash regret, post Door Dash clarity is tough because you be looking at your phone like, man, I really spent $37 on three tacos and a latte. Wow. Wow. $37.

[00:43:22]If you would have gone inside the coffee shop or whatever, it would have cost you 16 bucks, but you paid $37 because you had to get the Door Dash pass and then you need to come to you a little quicker. So, you paid the extra $3 before you know the taxes came up to be almost $40. If you do it twice, they ask $80. $80 time five is $400. That's Monday through Friday. 400. 400 time 4 is $1,600. You see how Door Dash could be more than somebody's rent.

[00:43:54]So when you have ADHD, you have to be very careful with these apps. The Door Dashes, the Instakarts, the Amazons.

[00:44:21]That's somebody who looks like me. Maybe they're almost as handsome as me. So, that's a compliment to them. Um, if you're in the Door Dash feedback loop, go out and get some food.

[00:44:34]And speaking of going out to get your own food, I'm in the mode right now where I'm forcing myself to go out and get my food. And it's time consuming, yes, but I had to kick this Door Dash habit. It was just I I can't do it. I It's When you realize how much you spend, it's it's embarrassing.

[00:44:55]It is embarrassing. And you know, you were pacing looking at ah facts. This is me. You You look through the fridge multiple times and you're like, "Man, ain't nothing ain't nothing to eat in here. I need something sweet. I need something sweet. I need something sweet, man.

[00:45:16]M Costco and TJ Maxx. I developed self-control. Okay. Costco can be addicting. Cost, I can give you that. TJ Maxx, too. But you have to kind of find yourself a TJ Maxx, but they have online, I'm sure.

[00:45:30]Um, the autism side of me, watch through documentaries on credit card debt before I get my first card and the ADHD side effects at least a month. Good debt, though. School textbooks. And look, if you're gonna spend a lot of money on something, let it be something that you can use over and over. Or if you just feel like you have to spend money on things, go to the dollar store with $20, which doesn't get you that much nowadays, but $20 will get you at least 10 things at the dollar store, tax included. So go out and ball out at the dollar store so that way you have sometimes we have this fixation. We have to just touch the things that we we bought. We need tangible things to buy.

[00:46:08]I pick up my Door Dash. That's better if you can do that.

[00:46:13]If you can pick up your own food is a little bit better. It saves you money.

[00:46:17]And then you also get to talk to people.

[00:46:20]You know, like think about it. If you Door Dash, the only human interaction you have, assuming you stay at home, is, you know, the 3 seconds that the Door Dasher is like, "All right, I'm taking a picture of the food right here."

[00:46:33]Now, if you go out and you get the food, think about all the amazing people that you can meet on the way. You might meet somebody of the opposite sex. You might meet somebody who looks good.

[00:46:44]Might, you know, have that eye contact with you. You know, like, you never know who you could meet. You can meet a friend. You could be talking to somebody in line about sports and you you meet a new buddy. So, life starts once you leave the house. So, we we got to we got to get out the house, guys. We got to get out of the house. And someone says, "Retail therapy is real." It is. It is, but it's very very expensive.

[00:47:12]And h how could I forget? Tick tock shop.

[00:47:20]Tik Tok shop gets me sometimes. Uh because it's right there at my fingertips. This is from stumbling through his word on Tik Tok. Tik Tok shop. very very be careful and look I promote some products in the Tik Tok shop. I haven't made a video in a while but I promote some of the things that I use every day and Tik Tok shop makes it very convenient for you to get these items.

[00:47:40]So if you're if you're going to blow a bag on Tik Tok shop make sure you get something that you will actually use.

[00:47:46]Luckily for me I use my L methol. I use my uh calm drink. Um and then um I think Emily has gotten a couple of dresses from the Tik Tok shop and she wears them. So, uh, like if if it's something that like we use, okay, then we'll promote it. But if we don't use it, then, um, it just feels disingenuous.

[00:48:07]Big mama or big daddy. Yeah. You know, like if you go out and you pick up your food, I might meet me a a big mama. You know, big mama might want to come over and hang out with me and stuff like that. So, you never know. And Harlem Bry says, "Every time I leave the house, it cost me money." Yes, leaving the house does cost money, but you have to be very intentional with it. It's like, hey, I'm leaving the house to go pick up my food.

[00:48:37]Because if you make a, you know, a pit stop at Target, start looking around like, well, I do need some new pillows and I do need I do need some shower curtains and I need I need a couple of new folders. I need a pen. I need a notebook. I need I need a new suitcase for you know it's $700 at Target and then you're like all right I'mma get this one time and then I'm done. Nah nah nah because now you've trained yourself to impulse buy and you'll just max out the credit card and then clear some space on the credit card and you'll just keep doing it all over again. So be very careful with the impulse shopping. be very very very careful.

And I'm talking about sports gambling, too. I'm talking about um day trading, anything that has a big emotional component to it where there's a potentially a big payoff. Sports gambling is what I really think of nowadays when we talk about gambling.

[00:53:32]You have FanDuel, then you have prize picks, then you have Koshi. I mean, fantasy football a lot of people are emotionally disturbed because of the bets that they have put in. And I know cuz I used to be one of those folks. I I was uh I would say I was a big gambler cuz in life in general, I I'm a gambler. You know, Kenny Rogers has a song, the gambler. I am a gambler at heart. I am a gambler at heart. I I take big chances and big risks and sometimes it works out. Most times it works out. Sometimes it doesn't, you know, but even me choosing to go all in on social media was a big big gamble cuz when I when I first started, you didn't see mental health professionals on social media, it was frowned upon as a bad thing. You know, if you post on social media and you're a professional, it'll make you unemployable.

[00:54:27]It was just frowned upon. I took a big gamble and worked. Uh, so knowing me, I I stay away from sports gambling because I have one of those personalities that I would be easily addicted to gambling.

[00:54:40]You put in $100, you win $500. That high can last you for weeks. It's like, oh my gosh, I made $400. I made I made $400. I made $400. I can't believe it. But then what if you you spend $600 and then you lose all that? You spend another $400 trying to chase the high of the first time you won $400.

[00:55:00]is very very very very very risky nowadays.

I should not be on prize picks or or FanDuel or um any of those things. Uh and gambling fallacies. I've never really steed into the the fallacies, but I do believe that you're you're playing a losing game.

[00:57:42]Okay, do y'all know that kid that gets a brand new toy on Christmas Day? And this toy is one that the kids been asking for for weeks since September. Your child's been asking for this one toy, this one car, little race car. Christmas rolls around. You give the child the race car.

[00:58:05]The child plays with it for maybe three, four hours. The next day, kick to the curb. I need a new toy.

[00:58:15]A lot of us who have ADHD are like that.

[00:58:17]When something is new for us, that is the appeal. Okay. And when it comes to people and relationships, uh, this is something that you have to be mindful of. Then they block. That's funny. When it's people in relationships, you need to be mindful of this because sometimes you don't like the person, but you like the fact that you don't know the person.

[00:58:43]You like the fact that you don't know the person. Okay? And this could make you a serial dater. and you go from person to person and you're like, "Okay, I don't know why like I don't know why like I can't seem to have a relationship that six like it just never works." Like everything is good in the beginning and then after that like around the 3, four, five, six week mark, it's like everything just comes from like everything just comes to a head and all of a sudden like looks like you've lost interest in this person. Maybe you didn't lose interest. Maybe you just figured out who they were. And not that they're a bad person, but the majority of your attraction to this person was the fact that you didn't know this person. But now that they become familiar to you, they're no longer a mystery. And because they're no longer a mystery, you are no longer attracted to them like that.

[00:59:37]Okay? You got to be very careful if you have these tendencies and these hobbies.

[01:01:07]People got internet and they cap and they always talk about somebody who cheated on them, but they never talk about them cheating themselves. So, somebody who is upfront and tells the truth. This is a safe space for that.

[01:01:19]That's this what we do over here. I cheated a lot. That's why I stopped dating. I couldn't explain to them I got bored, but not because of them for years. This I've I've sat down with a lot of patients who have told me the same exact thing. A lot of patients who have told me the same exact thing. And I remember a guy who he had gotten recently married and he was exploring an ADHD diagnosis and he has some regret about, you know, being married and not that he didn't like his wife, but he wasn't sure if he was somebody who would do well in a marriage because he he liked falling in love. He liked that initial stage of a relationship. So after you, you know, you stay with somebody for a while, there's no more novelty. I mean you can find new parts of them but the novelty is kind of worn off. So then it does become harder to be faithful sometimes. So one thing that is a plus in our neurody divergent community is that we have healthy dialogue um around things like u polyamory or open relationships um which it doesn't mean that you have to sign up for that if you don't want it. So, because I've I've seen people agree to open relationships when they didn't want to. If it's not your thing, don't do it. Don't do it. But it's just good to know that there's options out there. It's good to know that there's options out there.

[01:02:46]Love being their ton of dopamine and their face dopamine facts. Um should have a show uh I well I do have a show in Boston. Uh uh it's July 24th. A lot of us learn about sex from corn or books or trying to navigate.

[01:03:06]Yeah. I look another thing that um we have to talk about in this society is that people aren't learning uh about sex in healthy ways. You're learning about it from the internet and the internet's not real life. So, um, that does make it hard because I would say that a lot of us don't have the social skills to to to back it up, you know, like you can go online and find things to simulate you, but when you go talk to the opposite sex in real life, uh, it can be pretty daunting if you've never worked on your social skills. Like just, you know, like, hey, what's your name? Like, how are you? I know I know a lot of people will be struggling to figure out what's their opening line or looking for pickup lines. your pickup line is your name.

[01:03:52]Hey, I'm so and so. What's your name?

[01:03:55]That should be that should be the first thing you ask anybody that you're interested in. But sometimes if you've never worked on your social skills or maybe you were like, you know, maybe you're in high school during co um you know, it's it's hard to sometimes know how to talk to the opposite sex. So even though I don't really struggle with that, I I see um and I think a lot of people from my generation, I'm 33, a lot of people from my generation have empathy for people who are younger than us cuz growing up, we had to go talk to people in person. You know, we had to go to the mall and hope that somebody was there at 5:00 p.m. I'm like, damn, Samantha said she's gonna be here at 5.

[01:04:38]Samantha's going to be up. And you're like, oh, she's at the other side of the mall. Cool. like you have to wonder whether somebody would show up because you know we ain't have a phone. So, uh even though we have more technology at our hands today, it is it is harder for this um generation. I think this is the hardest generation uh to navigate socially like it's it's much harder for them. Much much much harder for them.

Like, do I actually like this person? Like, clearly I'm physically attracted to them cuz I would never go on a date with somebody that I'm not physically attracted to. I don't think you should do that. You know that that I could be wrong, but I think that you should only go on dates with somebody that you are physically attracted to. So that way, if things go well, all right, well, we're already attracted to each other. you know, we already we got the shucking in mind.

It's easy to just get lost in a fourmonth situationship that turns into a year and a half long relationship that never should have been a relationship to start with. And you see how you lose 16 months of your life just like that.

And um Ghost, I would I would love when you work on that theory about why people are so detached, I would love to um I would love for you to present to us why you think that that's the case. Cuz the average date nowadays, I read that is like $200, which is crazy. $200 to see if you like me and I like you. That's the average first date cost $200.

[01:16:45]We are liable to substance use for reasons that other people can't really relate to. A lot of us who have ADHD have so many thoughts in our head. And sometimes the substance will quiet down the thoughts. Now you have one thought.

[01:16:59]I know a lot of people they'll get a little fried and go and knock out our shift. I know people who will get fried and they'll be able to clean their house. They're like, "Oh, it it was a sativa. You know, the sativa got me right."

[01:17:11]Some people like the hybrids. Some people like the, you know, the drinks after work, the happy hours. It gets them loose, helps them take the edge off. You know, some people do some of the harder stuff. Okay. Becoming an adult was realizing that a lot of people, a lot of working professionals were, you know, on that powder. That caught me by surprise. I didn't I didn't anticipate that. I didn't see that. But a lot of us who are neurody divergent, we're liable um to become addicted to substances because sometimes they make us feel like we're normal and we get to get out of our heads for a second. Even if it's just for half hour, just being out of your head and watching a funny movie and you know having a couple of edibles and just gig have all day all day all day. So, we got to be very careful with substances. And I'm not saying you have to go fully sober or whatever, but be mindful of the fact that it's probably something that you're leaning on as a crutch. Be very mindful of that.

[01:20:19]I loved it, but I'm not in the academia world. Like, I'm I'm past that. But I would love to do research. I would love to spearhead research where I get to look at people who have autism and ADHD and see how substance use is a thing in that community, specifically autism, ADHD, and substance use because we have some data on autism by itself and substance use and then ADHD and substance use, but I I need I need the autism with the ADHD combined. And I want to see how substance use is a thing in that specific community. So I I would love to do research on that actually. I would really love to do that. I would really really really really love to do that.

[01:21:03]And somebody says canvas saved my life to be honest. So look I I have a lot of people who have said that that canvas has saved their life. And I think that it's important to to respect that.

[01:21:15]And if it's the thing that you've used instead of um harder stuff or it got you off prescription, hey, I respect it. I respect it. I respect it. I respect it.

Um, and look, I have been at the ER and we've had so many people come in for cannabis induced psychosis. We've had a lot of people come in because they ate a whole bunch of edibles or they ate somebody's weed brownies and a friend's weed brownies and then, you know, they come to the ER and they're having panic attacks and they feel like they're going to die. So, edibles are a big wild card.

[01:22:19]Um, you know, Abby, it is terrifying. It is terrifying. I mean, that's not everybody's edible experience. I promise you some that's not everybody's edible experience, but it can be pretty terrifying. So, you know, as it is with everything, you know, use caution, be very careful, keep it away from kids, um, so on and so forth. But it's it's scary when you go to the ER and you feel like you're going to die.

[01:22:46]you you really feel that way like it's you know and then you know at the ER we just kind of give people uh you know like re reorient them give them water hydrate them if they have to throw up let them throw up let them know that it's going to pass over and you know like you you'll pass through you'll be okay but if you if you're new to it and um you know you're having um THC induced panic attack it really feels feels real like it feels like you feel like you're going to die, you know? So, um definitely be careful and and if you can, you know, regulate yourself without substances, I think that's a superpower nowadays. Like if you're able to raw dog your way into regulating yourself, more power to you. More power to you.

[01:23:44]If you are under the age of 26 years old, what and this is not medical advice, all right? Not medical advice.

[01:23:50]I'm just talking to you as a friend, but especially if you're under the age of 26 or your brain hasn't fully formed, um, you have to be very careful with cannabis. In fact, I say avoid it if you can. I know some people start smoking at 12 and 13 and 14, sometimes 11, 10. You know, if that's what you did, then that's what you did. But uh if you must partake, please wait until your brain is fully formed. Um because the studies show that when your brain is fully formed and you use it occasionally, you don't pay as heavy of a cognitive price as somebody who started smoking at 11 would. The person who started smoking at 11, I mean, they run a higher risk of psychosis, you know, potentially lowered IQ over time, depression, anxiety, personality disorders. So, the earlier you start, the worse off. Um, but theoretically speaking, once your brain is fully formed, if you use it sparingly, the stays are, you know, quite favorable. It shows that you could, you know, you could use occasionally and not pay such a big cognitive price, which is really good news for people who um, you know, cannabis must be a part of their lives.

[01:25:04]So, that's that's a good news just that I think it helps to wait until your brain is fully um, formed. And it's important to educate the youth about this because you see a lot of kids, you know, getting high and skipping school and, you know, like we've all been truent kids at one point, but your brain is still forming. That's the it's such a a vulnerable time. Your brain is is still forming. You got to be very careful. Got to be very very very very very careful.

[01:25:36]Someone says, "I person took a thought was dying laying in the bathtub and everything." Yeah. I I've had patients who have come to ER, they thought they weren't going to die. I've had friends who we've had to call the ambulance for because they took an edible or they ate somebody's pot brownies and they um they got really scared and got spooked out.

[01:25:57]So, I don't say this to scare y'all, okay? And I'm somebody I've definitely, you know, had my fair share. obviously moving to California and so on and so forth. But the proper education is important to put it out there so people know what they're dealing with. They know what they're up against, you know.

[01:26:14]But for people who say that canvas has been uh helpful to them in their lives, I I see why they say that. And um I definitely um don't disagree.

But I guess I guess guess my co-workers are gay or married.

But, that's a common thing I've gott from people that the medication shape my personality or, you know, they lost their sparkle or their glow or things like that. So that's not out of the ordinary, but definitely go back to your provider and let them know cuz you can always change a dose or try a different medication.

I I don't have any kids that I know of. So um even if my kids were to be spanked, it'd be the the mother doing it. Like my hand is too heavy to lay on a child. So I hate to spank a kid cuz I'm too big. I I don't want to I hate to do that to my child.

They give you cheap drinks. alcohol is so socially acceptable that it's people forget that it's a real substance and that you can develop a real addiction to it. So that's um unfortunate. I think we should talk about that more. We should definitely um talk about that more because you know if you're at the point where you're a legitimate alcoholic, you can't just quit on your own. Like you have to go to rehab and quit. you know, they give you benzo to wean you off of alcohol. Um, quitting alcohol on your own as an alcoholic is life-threatening, you know, and this is something that's promoted all over the globe. So, yeah, it's scary how abnormalized it's become.

So, it was like you have to if you date somebody at your workplace, you have to like them enough to potentially be willing to lose your job or be willing to switch to a different department, you know. So, that's Hey, if you like them, we like them.

So, I don't think there's anything wrong with meeting somebody at work. I actually don't. There's nothing wrong with it. You spend a lot of time at work. [01:38:28]That's how my grandparents met. They're both social workers. Uh, and then, you know, they met at the job, obviously, and when they they went on trips together, you know, for work. Then, you know, they eventually started to shuck each other. And one thing led to another. So, nothing wrong meeting somebody at work, but uh just, you know, got to be uh very intentional with it.

No, you will you'll become depressed if we're being honest. 10 hours isolated in a room.

Um, like when you work from home, when you're isolated, you you've got you have to do that cuz you will find that you'll be depressed if if not already depressed. So, be be very careful with this. So, see if you can look and use that confirmation number. And Delta has something where you can see how much flight credit you have. So, let's just see if we can use that confirmation number to rebook another flight with that information. Um, uh, and if not, then we just lost some money. We'll have to rebook it. But at least see if you can look into that and then let me know.

Um, and it's it's made my comedy better, you know, like the writing part, but sometimes I get too isolated from friends and family and then I have to find my way to like get back and actually do things. Um, you know, sporting events is my I love sporting events. So, sporting events, I was trying to invite friends to, you know, go out and do that, so on and so forth. But, um, isolating for too long will lead into, uh, depression.

[01:49:48]Not all the time. And uh Oh, someone said remind them of the addictions again. Okay. For the people who just came in, I'll go from seven. The top seven dangerous ADHD addictions. Number seven, work addiction. Number six, drama and conflict. Uh, arguing when you're underst stimulated/ bored. Number five, doom scrolling, which I feel like I should have put that higher. Number four, shopping and impulse spending.

[01:50:12]Number three, gambling. Gambling. Uh, number two, hypersexuality and novelty seeking. And number one, substance use.

[01:50:22]And also keep in mind that if you have ADHD, one thing I realized that is that if you have like addictions don't go away when you have ADHD.

[01:50:35]Let's let's say for the argument of this, let's say my two addictions are substance use and hypersexuality.

[01:50:42]If I kick women to the curb and I just stop dating altogether and I say, "All right, I've I've dealt with hypersexuality. I'm good now." then gambling will slide into that spot.

[01:50:55]If I tend to kick the substances to the curb, guess what? Doom scrolling can can slide into that spot. If I'm somebody who likes to work and I like to shop a lot and I I kick the shopping to the curb, guess what? Video games can slide in.

[01:51:12]You have to be mindful of the fact that you have these tendencies to hyperfixate on something and to do it um you know over and over and over and over and over and over and over and yeah they're replaced with other habits. So make way for a healthy habit to replace an unhealthy one because if you don't if you don't plan actively to have the healthy habit overtake the unhealthy one, you'll just find another void.

[01:51:38]Just another void. It may not be doom scrolling, but now we're playing video games eight hours a day. It may not be hypersexuality, but now it's it's corn, right? So, um, yeah, you you you want to the answer is right here. You want to replace it with healthy habits.

[01:52:01]So, if you are in a run club or something like that, or if you have a friend who has a run club, that'd be a great a great replacement cuz now you're spending time out amongst people. You're running like you're you're getting into shape. You're getting your legs underneath you. It's a healthy thing. So, I would say find a healthy um replacement. And unfortunately, look, whether y'all listen to me or not, sometimes people will hear it from me or you'll experience it. But if you have unhealthy habits and you don't intentionally replace it with a healthy one, you'll just replace it with another unhealthy one. So yeah, now you're not door dashing and wasting your money, but like I said, you're doom scrolling all night.

[01:52:52]So, it's like you may as well just stuck with the Door Dash or or whatever, Felix. I appreciate you. Start Start running, Terra. I like that.

[01:53:06]I usually swap in for running. Love that shot of dopamine. And after you run for a while, you get the runner's high. So, running is actually a really good It's a really good replacement. I like running. I like running. Exercise. You can never go wrong with exercise. You can never go wrong with exercise.

[01:53:28]Or life addicts. That's funny. Or life addicts.

[01:53:32]My addictions are reading and learning.

[01:53:39]No, these are these are two healthy addictions right here. Especially the reading part. Especially the reading part. If you want to be a better speaker, a better writer, if you want to be better with communication, reading and writing are two things that will help you. If you're reading, writing for 15 minutes a day, read for 15, write for 15, you become a much better communicator. And when you're a better communicator, you can get more of what you want out of life. So re reading is a very underrated um addiction. And it's I can't think of too many instances in which reading would be a negative thing, you know. So reading learning as well but especially reading reading is really good. Reading is really good.

[01:55:05]Um negative is you can prefer reading over socializing. Ah, yeah, but I don't see why you couldn't do both. Someone says, "How do you feel about Lexapro?" They won't let me answer those questions specifically anymore. All I can say is that if you've been prescribed a medication, you know, talk to your uh your psych and and um you know, talk take it up with your psych. But I prescribe Lex Pro all the time. But obviously, you know, like I know those guys and girls, but for you specifically, I can't give any advice.

[01:55:39]Tik Tok and my legal team doesn't like that. Um, yeah. Yeah. And Quinton says, "How are folks getting excited to exercise?" Okay. And I'll talk about this point and then, uh, and then I'll, you know, remind everybody about the comedy shows and then we'll get off. But, um, exercising, so look, when you go to the gym consecutive days, okay, and you do the hard thing, you walk away with a sense of pride. It makes you feel good because you didn't want to go to the gym, but someway somehow you showed up, you got to the gym, you feel good. Uh, and and from a mental health perspective, you feel so much better when you go to the gym. Whenever I'm trying to figure things out in life, I have big decisions coming up. I go to the gym, I take a walk. Someone says go to trails. I I don't go to trails unless I see white people around. I need at least three white people around me before I can go hiking cuz I'm scared. I need me some backup. So, I I just go I do the treadmill. I do stair master. I you know, I do my regular um I do my regular I do my regular u um exercise. But um yeah, the gym is great for your mental health. You you make better decisions.

[01:56:54]You feel better. And also when you start to see changes in your body from going to the gym, that's when it becomes very addictive. It becomes extremely addictive. Extremely addictive because now you see like the changes in your body. You see yourself getting finer and now you're spending, you know, hours, maybe not hours, you're spending some time looking at yourself in the mirror, like looking at your triceps, you know, you know, like, okay, you can see a definition like, oh, this is cool. Okay, I I see my triceps and you see your stomach getting slimmer. you see your thighs like you see the the number going down on the scale, you know, you see yourself getting finer. Oh, I look good naked, you know, like we should all we should all want to look good naked, you know. So, um yeah, the gym is is an addictive thing. It's one of the few things that's good for your mental and good for your physical and it's free.
