When comparing cartridges with similar bullet weights and powder charges, the case geometry (specifically shoulder angle) significantly affects ballistic performance; in this test, the 6 Creedmoor and .243 Winchester cartridges, despite having nearly identical case dimensions, showed different velocities (2891 fps vs 2777 fps) and group sizes (0.869 in vs 0.714 in) when loaded with the same 95-grain Nosler partition bullet and 38.5 grains of H4350 powder, demonstrating that case design influences both velocity and accuracy.

Is it 6mm or .243? Trying some 95 gr NoslersAdded:
What? Am I seeing double?
Phil, Half Mile Sniper here.
We're back on the range today. And today, well, the question is, 6 mm or.243?
Hmm.
We'll figure that out in a minute. Y'all sit back, kick your feet up, enjoy the ride.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> All righty, y'all. Well, viewer Randall sent me some 95-grain Nosler, I believe they're partitions, to try in the 6 Creed.
And I decided that, well, we're going to try them in the.243 as well.
So, I played with a Gordon's reloading tool a little bit, and I found that loading both the 6 Creed and the.243 with 38.5 grains of H4350 should give me almost the same velocities. Gordon suggests that 6 Creed will be running at 2870 ft per second on average.
And it suggests that the.243 will be running 2875.
We're going to basically pit it side by side.
We'll shoot a group through the 6 Creed, we'll shoot a group through the 243.
Same bullet, same charge.
The only difference is the cases are so slightly different. Be interesting to see what happens. Yes, I know I'm pitting a 26-in barrel competition rifle that weighs 18 and 1/2 lb against a Savage Axis 243 that weighs maybe 7 and 1/2, 8 lb.
Maybe.
And funny thing is this 243 is the 243 that gave me a little bit of scope bite. So, give me a minute to run down and get the target set up.
We'll get to shooting and we'll see how my 6 Creed stacks up against my 243.
Bring you all right back.
All righty. Well, we got the target set up. We got the target cam set up.
Got the chronograph running.
And I've got five rounds with the 95-grain Nosler loaded. And for those who are interested in the load data, my OAL for the 6 Creedmoor is 2.62 in.
That's base to tip.
And my OAL for the 243 is 2.65 in base to tip. So, these things are loaded as close together or close to equal as I could make it.
So, we're going to start with the 6 Creedmoor, 38.5 grains of H4350 and the 95-grain Nosler.
No idea how these are going to work.
We're going to put 6 Creedmoor on the left.
Holding 12:00 on the dot.
28 35.6 29 08.2 28 88.3 Completely missed that case.
28 87.8 29 34.9 Which gave us a five-shot average of 28 91.0 Extreme spread of 99.3 and a standard deviation of 32.9 uh 32.6 And other than that third shot, and they seem to stack up pretty nice.
Don't know if that third shot was me or the ammo.
Give me a minute to get gun swapped around.
I'll bring y'all right back.
Wow.
Holy smokes.
Well, >> [sighs] >> it's been a while since I've shot this rifle.
And the Bushnell 3x5 that came on it is one heck of a step down from my uh other scopes.
These crosshairs, even at nine power, all the way zoomed in, completely cover that 1-in dot at 100 yards.
Let me uh take a couple of dry fires real quick.
See how See how bad this uh trigger is.
>> [sighs] >> Wow.
Going to be a workout.
Trying to remember if the magazine only holds three or if it holds four.
Oh, maybe it'll hold four.
Okay, cool. It does hold four.
So, I'll be able to load one, put the fifth round in the magazine, and we'll be able to continue on.
Um Let me get the chronograph set. There we go.
Eyes on, ears in.
I think one of the things we'll do after we shoot this is we'll check the trigger pull since I have the trigger pull gauge with me.
Okay, this will be five rounds of.243 pushing the 95 grain Nosler bullet with 38.5 grains of H4350.
Let's see.
Just to be safe, I want to bring it up two clicks.
That should be half an inch higher than it was zeroed for.
And since the 6 Creedmoor hit quite a bit higher than the 107s and the 109s, I'm hoping this does, too.
>> [sighs] >> And guess what I forgot to do?
I forgot to hit start on the chronograph.
It's a good thing I got a camera down there because I don't see anything.
>> [sighs] >> 27 83.1 >> [snorts] >> 27 87.2 And I'm starting to see a group.
27 72.5 Actually should have brought a tactic cam so y'all could see how poor the image is through the scope.
27 66.9 Wow.
So Gordon's was way off on the.243.
It suggested that the same charge would have been 2875.
Instead, our four-shot average, since I forgot to start the chronograph, was 2777.4 with an extreme spread of 20.2 and a standard deviation of 8.1.
And even through this less than stellar scope, sure looks like I've got a group going at 4:00 on that dot.
So, let me go pull that target and let's go see how we did.
Well, well, well, well, well.
That was interesting.
Gordon suggested 6 Creedmoor should be running 2870. We're running a little bit faster, you know, like 28 85, 2890, something like that.
Five-shot group came in at 1.98 in.
I don't know if that was me or if that was the ammo, but without that one, we are at.869 in.
Hm.
Moving over to the.243, Gordon suggested that that should be running 2875 with the same charge as the 6 Creedmoor, and it was only running 2777.
So, 100 ft per glad I brought it up two clicks or half an inch, otherwise my group would have been down here in the right angle.
Um and real quick reminder, at 100 yards, the crosshair completely covered the dot. I didn't even see any specs of yellow.
But, our five-shot average, first shot being down here in the four, is 1.38 in. Since we took the wonky shot away off the other one, and we take it off of this one, that puts those next four at 0.714 in.
I'll have to watch the video and see if this is the first shot.
You know, that cold bore shift thing.
Be interesting to see if that's the first shot.
We know that this one's the third shot.
But, even at 1.38 in, it's good enough for deer hunting. And if I could hunt with the Nosler 95-grain partitions in this state, I would tweak that load a little bit, and uh probably do pretty good.
Of course, they think I need to change the scope that that Bushnell that came on that Savage Axis as part of the the package is not a very good scope. It's only a 3 by 9, and the glass is real distorted.
Let's go talk some more. Alrighty.
Felt good to dig this one out of the safe.
Thank you, Randall, for uh sending some Nosler bullets to give a try in the.243 and the 6 Creedmoor.
So, yeah, the question is is it really a.243 or is it a 6 mm? I mean, they're the same bullet.
In fact, the cases are almost the same.
Just the the angle of the shoulder's basically the big difference.
I imagine if I had a uh live 6 Creedmoor round available, I could probably chamber a live 6 Creedmoor round in here. I wouldn't try shooting it, but I bet it would chamber.
So, we got our velocity.
Of course, our velocity was only based off of four shots because I forgot to start chronograph for the first shot, but I'm real happy with the standard deviation on this.
And what's what's interesting is I used the Intella Dropper for both charges. I just set it to 38.5.
I loaded five 6 Creeds, and then I loaded five 243s.
One right after the other.
So, I can't blame the Intella Dropper for the swing because while we had a wide s ES and SD with the 6 Creedmoor, we got a really good standard deviation here of less than 10 at 8.1. So, that's why I think the 95 95 grain Nosler would be a good bullet for the 243.
Ah, [sighs] okay.
Hey.
Well, don't know where that came from.
As always, I'd like to remind y'all to stay stay strapped, you get clapped, carry everywhere you can.
It's getting crazy out there and crazier by the day.
There's a whole lot of people that don't like the normal people.
We'll just leave it at that.
And uh I believe I mentioned it in the my last video.
Not sure what's happening with YouTube, but subscriber count has stagnated.
Views have dropped to hardly anything.
I don't know if it's a change in the algorithm or the system or if I'm being uh shadow banned or what it is. So, hey.
Share and share alike. Tell your friends and family about me.
Let's see if we can defeat the algorithm and bump the bump that subscriber count north of 10,000 and see what happens.
So, as always, I really do appreciate y'all hanging with me. Thank you so much. I really do appreciate it, each and every one of y'all.
As always, I want to remind y'all, stay safe, keep shooting, we'll catch you next time.
Send it.
Hit.
