In isolated survival environments with limited resources, strategic resource management and creative problem-solving are essential for long-term survival. This involves prioritizing essential resources (food, shelter, tools), understanding environmental constraints, and developing sustainable systems that allow continuous resource acquisition. Key strategies include: establishing secure base locations, creating renewable resource sources (such as farms and traps), and adapting to environmental challenges like seasonal changes. The challenge demonstrates that survival requires not just gathering resources but also managing them efficiently while protecting against threats.

I Survived 150 Days with ISLANDS ONLY! | Don't Starve TogetherAdded:
Thank you to War Thunder for sponsoring this video. This is a map of Don't Starve Together, and this is where players spend most of their time. Since the mainland has everything you need to survive, there aren't many reasons to explore beyond its shore. But, what if you didn't have a choice? What if the mainland with all of its resources, mobs, bosses, and food just disappeared, leaving you with nothing but the open ocean and three tiny islands? Could you still survive? Well, I set out to answer that question, and the answer is absolutely.
Keep watching, and I'll show you how I took a world with just the islands and built a perfect base complete with infinite food and all the resources you could ever need. This challenge was inspired by BitoBam, so take a minute to go check out his awesome videos and give him some love. Otherwise, thank you for joining me on my adventure, and now let's get into it.
When we first boot up the server, we're faced with the most critical choice of the entire challenge. Which character do we pick? In other challenges, we've established that Webber is the king when it comes to food, but this time we have to ignore the fuzzball and instead pick the only other option that makes any kind of sense, Wilson. It might seem like a strange choice at first, but once we load in, it's immediately clear that something is different. Instead of spawning in a random field on the mainland, we find ourselves stranded on Moon Key Island, surrounded by trees, bananas, reeds, and worst of all, monkeys. These little gremlins will rob me of any resources I could possibly grab. So, my first goal is simple, escape the island, and Wilson is the only man for the job.
The plan is this, to begin with. My main goal is to gather as many resources as I can from the portal, but my biggest goal is to get three sticks from the portal.
Ooh, nice. Okay, we got our first stick.
So, yeah, Wilson, once I get my first insight point, can use his first level of alchemy to transform three twigs into a log. So, all I need is three twigs, and then I can make a log, I can turn the log into an oar, and then we can get out of here.
Now, in addition to the log, I also want to grab stuff for a couple torches.
Also, I just got the second twig. Very nice. Oh, there's a piece of grass.
Yeah, I need I need that. Come on. Nice.
Oh, the Oh, the bananas are grown. Hold on. I need to grab as many of these as I can before the monkeys notice.
Ah, I'm not going to be able to get that one. You know what? That's fine. I got a little bit of food. That's the important part. Going to drop them here so the monkeys don't steal them. Oh, and there's a seed.
So, pretty much the only things I can eat on this island are bananas and seeds, and that's it.
Come on. Give me a stick. Give me a stick.
All right. Well, morning's about to be here anyway. When morning arrives, there should be a couple sticks. Come on.
Oh, wait. Wait. Wait. Oh. Oh. Oh. It's going. Okay, where's the sticks? I literally need like a stick and grass.
Okay, go. Run. Run. Run.
Literally, that's all I needed. It was a little bit of grass and a stick.
Finally, I scraped together the sticks I needed to craft an oar as well as a few random resources from the portal. But, I wasn't able to leave just yet. To craft those sticks into a log, I needed to unlock the skill with an insight point, which I wouldn't earn for several more days. It would be difficult, but if I could scrounge together just enough bananas and seeds to stay alive until then, I might be able to escape.
Man, I I really need some seeds, man.
Like I really need some seeds. Come on.
I need food. You would think that starting a Monkey Island would mean that you would get the easiest sources of food. You get all the bananas you need, and you just get all this good stuff.
But, in all honesty, you get none of it except like the occasional scrap because the monkeys steal all of it.
Okay. There we go. I need sticks and grass. Sticks and grass. Sticks and grass. Sticks and grass. Come on.
Whoa, I'm stuck. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.
I was stuck for a moment. Okay, I got one bit of grass. Damn.
Oh my god, there's so many monkeys.
Night three, I'm hoping that tomorrow morning I will get an insight point.
Oh, I have 22. I need an insight point.
If I don't get one, I'm dead.
Yes, okay. I got an insight point. Hold on. Hold on.
Alchemy, three twigs into a log. On the morning of day four, I finally got a single insight point. Crafted my sticks into a log and turned that log into a beautiful boat oar. I wasted no time stealing a boat and grabbing a nearby message in a bottle revealing my next destination, Pearl's Island. And while this was great news, Pearl's wasn't actually my main goal. My real target was the only other land mass in this entire world, the Lunar Island. It was my only hope for food, resources, and protection from insanity in a world with so little. And since I knew where Pearl's was, I hoped to find it along the way, but little did I know this trip in search of salvation would be my last.
And let's go.
Uh I need to pick up these kelp fronds.
I'm going to go and eat two of them.
Oh, my sanity's taking a hit.
Please tell me the Lunar Island is over here.
If I need to head to Pearl's for the night, I will, or at least I'll try, but Ah, nine food. I have to eat another one.
I'm going to have to head to Pearl's.
I have no choice. I have to boat for Pearl's.
And I'm insane.
All right, we're at Pearl's.
Wait. Oh, she has um she has twigs.
Okay, there's there's one twig. There's two. And I have grass. I can make a torch.
I didn't even think of the fact that she has twigs.
Uh oh, hold on.
Okay, I I managed to defeat one of them.
[ __ ] I am not in good position right now.
Come on. come on.
Ah!
[ __ ] Dying this early on was aggravating, but honestly, in a world this unforgiving, I really didn't expect to make it as far as I did. I knew all I needed was one more try to gain some momentum. So, I loaded up another attempt and got straight to work. No seed. What? There's a stick. Okay. We got our first stick again.
Oh, there's another stick. Oh, we got our second stick.
Ooh, nice. And I just got another stick.
Okay. Good stuff. Good stuff. Good stuff.
Huh! What the [ __ ] are these? What the [ __ ] are those?
What do they do?
Oh, no.
I made a mistake. I made a mistake. I MADE A MISTAKE!
UH THAT WAS REALLY DUMB.
REALLY, REALLY, really dumb of me, but I can now escape.
Got it.
All right.
>> [bell] >> Okay, we know where Pearl is again. We have her exact location. Now, if the Lunar Island wasn't to the left of Pearl, it must be to the right.
I'm going to grab all this kelp, and then I'm going to grab that extra piece of driftwood, and then I am booking it.
I'm at 10 food. I need to eat one.
Yeah. Ah, 80 sanity.
Seed? No seed.
What the Nope. Oh, no. Nope. Uh-uh.
Oh, wait. What the Hold on. What?
Interesting. They have a um a sunken chest on there.
I would give so much to fight them and try to take their boat, but I'm so worried I'm going to die cuz I have such little health. I have to let it go.
Oh, that hurts. That was a free sunken chest, too. Watching that pirate ship sail away with its treasure was brutal.
I was just imagining all the free loot that chest could have dropped. Tools, materials, gems, and so much more. If only I just had a better weapon. Or even better, if only I'd had one of the hundred of powerful battleships from the well-known sponsor of this video, War Thunder. So, you've probably heard of War Thunder before, but why should you care? Well, besides being one of the most in-depth vehicle combat games ever created, while also being completely free on PC, console, and mobile, do you remember those ships I was talking about? Well, that's not all War Thunder has to offer. In fact, this game has over 2,500 vehicles, including ships, tanks, planes, and helicopters from 10 different nations. From 1920s biplanes to modern tanks and jet fighters, the variety is massive, letting you find the perfect vehicle for your play style.
But, why stop there? Once you have your perfect vehicle, it's time to make it look perfect with War Thunder's huge range of customization options. Want your vehicle to be green, red, yellow, whatever this is? Go for it. With tons of camouflages, historical markings, and decorations, including community-made ones, you can take your perfect combat vehicle and truly make it yours. All of these awesome features, and we haven't even reached the best part yet, combat.
Once your war machine is ready, it's finally time to ride it in the battle, where detailed vehicles, realistic graphics, and authentic sound design makes every fight feel real and intense.
But, the immersion doesn't stop there.
Unlike other games, War Thunder doesn't rely on simple health bars and hit boxes. Instead, each and every part of your vehicle, from the engines, fuel tanks, and even the crew members, are all individually modeled and can each be damaged or destroyed by enemy fire, forcing you to think strategically instead of just focusing on a health bar. With all this and combat, this is the kind of game you could really get sucked into. And the awesome part is, you're not alone. With over 95 million players and the new mobile version of this incredible game, you can play anytime, anywhere. Complete with intuitive controls, impressive graphics, and the large-scale multiplayer combat War Thunder is known for, it's easy to jump into battle, no matter where you are. But, do you know what's funny? Out of all the incredible features this mountain of a game has to offer, my favorite by far is that this game with all of its bits and bobs actually runs.
War Thunder is so well optimized that even on lower end devices it still doesn't lag, which seems impossible with a game of this scale and yet it works flawlessly. There's absolutely no reason for you not to click one of the links in the pin comment or the description and give this game a try. It's free on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and mobile and for all the new players that join the War Thunder community on PC or consoles, as well as returning players that haven't played for the last 6 months, there is a massive bonus pack waiting just for you.
Multiple premium vehicles, the exclusive vehicle decoration Eagle of Valor, 100,000 silver lions and a full week of premium account. Unfortunately, this deal is for a limited time only, so click the link down below and get your free loot before time runs out. And with that done, it's time to return to the challenge, where after so long at sea, I finally found what I was looking for.
If I can just find the Lunar Island, my sanity issues are done. Wait, wait, THERE IT IS.
AH!
I [ __ ] found it. After another hectic start and a mad dash across the ocean, I finally found it. The Lunar Island and its entire bounty were finally within my grasp, so now all that was left was to pick a spot and jump in.
We're good.
Oh my god. All right. We are golden, we made it. Now I can eat all these kelp prawns and unfortunately, even though I'm about to die, I at least won't die of starvation.
Okay, wait, there's one stone fruit bush, I will take that. Trees and stone fruit, good stuff. Ah, ha, ha, this is glorious.
I need to pick up all the stone fruit and try not to piss off the shattered spider.
So what I'm probably going to do is I'm going to pick a spot right over here and I'm just going to make a pile of my stuff.
This is going to be our main base of operations for quite a while.
Do these give off enough light to keep me alive?
This spot right here is just close enough to the fissure that I don't die to the darkness, but just far enough away that I don't gain any more sanity.
Come on, I just need one flint to make a pickaxe. If I can do that, then I can get all the stone and flint I'll ever need.
I'm not seeing it. I just need one more flint.
Okay, I'll probably have to check one of the other islands then.
Yes, okay.
We got the last piece of flint we needed. And now I have a pickaxe.
Let's go and head back over to the main island, and then I'm going to get a little bit of gold.
Yes.
All right, and check it out. We have a science machine.
Absolutely perfect.
Ooh, really, really good stuff.
Oh my god. Look. Oh, I'm almost full food. Fantastic. Yes.
Honestly, though, I've got a nice little thing going so far. Got a handful of trees. I have a little bit of storage. I have a couple of tools.
I need to go ahead and get as much of the kelp pushed up against the edge of my uh lunar island as possible, because kelp is not only a good food source, but it also helps me manage my sanity by lowering my sanity for the lunar island.
All right. Let's go.
I really want to go ahead and plant the rest of these and go ahead and get as many of them crammed into a small area as possible.
All right, we now have 20 or 30 bull kelp in this one little section right here.
>> [snorts] >> Now that I was finally making progress, I decided to take a quick trip to Pearl's to grab whatever resources she had on her little patch of land. I dug up every sapling I could find, but that wasn't the real reason I was there.
Instead, early the next day, I farmed every single bee on the island because in this world, Pearl's beehive is the only one in existence and my only way to get resources like honey and stingers.
Now, that might not sound so important, but the dock kit recipe from the Moon Queen requires stingers and is my only option for expanding what little land I had left. Once finished at Pearl's, I returned to my lunar base and planted the saplings as well as the few banana bushes I had grabbed from Moon Queen.
Things were finally looking up. But with fall coming to an end, I had to think about the future. The coming seasons would bring brutal temperatures and unique challenges. If I wanted to survive, I would have to prepare. And towards that end, I only had one option.
I would have to return to Moon Queen Island containing a gold mine of trees, reeds, and bananas as well as the unnatural portal, one of the few ways I had to get renewable grass. For my long-term survival, I would need all of it. But of course, to get my hands on all those goodies, I'd have to deal with the monkeys. Luckily, I knew that all I needed for this plan was a few wooden fences. But to craft them, I would need grass. And with dozens of monkeys guarding my only source, I had to get creative. All right. Let's sail around and see if we can find any grass. Which pretty much only gives us two options.
We have the first option, which is just to find like little bits and pieces of grass on the water. Or the second Oh.
Uh Oh, nice. Check it out. There's a random piece of grass right there.
That's exactly what I wanted to see, actually.
Nice. Okay.
I'm kind of stuck. What in the world?
Hello.
Uh Oh. Oh, I saw I saw a shark. I saw a shark. Nope.
[ __ ] that.
Yeah, so I need to go kind of vertical-ish.
Ooh, nice. Okay. Look at that. Another piece of grass. So, I now have enough to make one bit of rope.
Oh, and I found it. I found Okay, I found it. I found it. I found it. I found it. Yes.
I found the fig trees.
Now, unfortunately, if I pick the figs themselves, I will be immediately attacked by a bunch of spiders.
But, what I'm hoping is that I can bump the trees to have them drop grass, and that won't piss off the spiders.
All right. Well, here's to hoping that this doesn't attract the spiders.
Ah!
I have done a very dumb thing.
I compl- I completely forgot about the fact that if I obviously hit it too hard, then a hole would appear.
We need to rush to Monkey Island. I need to get a new boat. I don't have a way to patch this one.
I at least know where this place is, but I need to get to Monkey Island now.
And it's nightfall. Hold on.
That was so dumb of me.
But, unfortunately, that is like one of the only other ways I can get grass is from those trees.
All right, we're here.
We have made it back to Monkey Island.
Now, we need to find a boat.
I'm going to grab this boat, and then I'm going to get the [ __ ] out of dodge again.
After almost drowning due to my own stupidity, I sailed back to the lunar base to craft the fences and add a fire pit to my new boat. But, it was soon after getting back that a new issue appeared, making things just a bit more difficult. Okay. Okay, we're good. I need to grab some bull kelp.
All right. A little bit more, and then I need to get the campfire going just in case.
What the [ __ ] are those?
WHAT ARE THESE?
Are they aggressive?
I am going to make sure my glass cutter is equipped just because that is very terrifying what those things are.
Okay, now what what are these things?
Ah, no. Whoa, whoa. Oh, hell no. Whoa.
The [ __ ] was that?
Let's just leave them be.
And then we'll uh we'll think about that later. Yeah.
The only downside though is that these guys are right next to my bulk hill.
They are walking away. I'm okay that they ate the food.
Just need my kelp. Yeah, there we go.
Yeah, y'all y'all go enjoy yourselves.
Oh, I think I see some glaciers at the end.
Oh, nice. There's even some glaciers down there. Uh I need to make fencing.
Fence.
We need one rope.
And fence. Okay.
We now have six wooden fences and that should {quote} {unquote} should be everything I need in order to deal with the monkeys.
We have a new fire pit for the new boat.
Just need to be careful not to chop down too many. I need to leave enough so I can repopulate IN THE FUTURE.
>> [screaming] >> NO!
WHAT THE [ __ ] WHAT THE [ __ ] MAN? NO, [screaming] NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.
OH MY GOD!
WHY ARE THEY so fast?
[ __ ] OFF, PLEASE. I JUST want to chop down a tree, man.
I'm chopping down this tree and then I'm Nope, no, no, no, no. No, no, no. Nope, nope, nope. I'm leaving. I'm leaving.
I'm leaving. I'm leaving. Nope. Uh-uh, I'm done.
We're finished.
[ __ ] this place. Knowing that those evil penguin things would show up every winter on the Lunar Island lit a fire under me. I had to conquer Moon Key Island, not just for the resources, but because I desperately needed a place to move. So, with my plan finally in place, I set sail.
Oh, man, that scared me so bad.
They did some damage.
We are back in Moon Key Island. This time we're a little bit more prepared.
Now, whether it's prepared enough, I have no idea.
The plan is really simple. We just need to make a monkey lure. So, now what we do is we are going to go ahead and block off this dock right here.
And then all I have to do is just take an item, which in this case I'm going to say is like a couple of stone fruit, and then just drop them on this side.
And instantly, you can see this powder monkey is trying to get to these stone fruit. But, the awesome part is that now that he's interested in the stone fruit, he will never be interested in anything else. He will always be trying to walk to the stone fruit. And then all I have to do is just jump on my boat, row around to the other side, and then I just have to bait all the other monkeys into that little spot, and that's it.
No, not my thermal stone.
Nice, okay.
So, we just got another monkey over here. We need to get the rest of them.
>> [laughter] >> Look at that glorious sight.
Oh, that's so nice. Yep, this is where my boat is. Let's go ahead and warm up, and then after that I'm going to run through, grab all the banana bushes, I'm going to grab all the trees. Literally, I'm grabbing everything. Every single thing I can get my hands on. The monkey lure worked beautifully. So, I vacuumed up every resource I could until my axe broke, planning to return later and rid Moon Key of all monkeys forever, especially since the moment I landed back at base, this happened.
Okay, so first things first, let's jump over here, and I'm going to eat all MY KILLFRONDS.
AH!
>> [screaming] >> NO!
PLEASE, NO. Leave me alone. No!
Please, [ __ ] off. No, stop. Stop, please. What the [ __ ] What is wrong with those things? I was so ready to leave this godforsaken penguin-infested island behind. So, over the next few days, while doing some chores, I obsessed over Monkey Island. But, removing all the monkeys was easier said than done. First, if you attack one monkey, the rest would kill you instantly. Second, each dead monkey drops a cursed trinket that can't be thrown out of your inventory. And if you pick up enough, you turn into a monkey yourself, losing all character benefits.
And lastly, even if you manage to get rid of them all, the portal spawns at least one monkey per day, if not more.
It was a ridiculous task. But, after some thought and a bit of testing, I figured it out. All I needed was an assortment of random materials, two fence gates, four gunpowder, and a torch. Let's do it. All right. Let's go and get the the grass that I left behind at the water log biome.
Right there, yep. I see the grass. I see it.
There's that. Now, let's go and get out of here.
All right, we're back.
And now we have made two fence gates.
Hold on. I need to run up and grab a few eggs. I have to try. I have to try.
Matter of fact, I wonder if I can give this thing some backup. All right, we got to try. We got to try. Come on. Go.
Attack.
>> [groaning and screaming] >> No, no, not that one. Not that one. I don't want to attack this. No!
Are we good?
Ah!
Okay, we're good. We're good. This guy provided the perfect distraction.
So, all I need now is to do gunpowder, which I have everything I need except for charcoal, and that's easy enough to get, and one single torch. Oh, wait, I forgot. You can actually get charcoal from just burning stuff in campfires.
All right, first gunpowder.
Fantastic.
The last gunpowder, and now we have everything we need.
And hopefully that is enough to keep us going.
Take two gunpowder. You want to stand directly underneath the portal.
Drop.
Torch.
Light.
This is step one.
Two gunpowder below the portal creates a hole in the docks.
What happens with this is the items will spawn and they'll be flung out, but anytime that a monkey spawns, it'll drop in the water and drown instantly.
Go away. Go away.
And then I have two gunpowder and a torch. What we need to do is we have to drop a gunpowder right here and then set it on fire.
Yep. So, by doing that, we have created this gap right here. That's exactly what we want.
So then, what we need to do is we need to take these gates and build them just like this. One, two. Then we need to open them.
So then, I'm going to equip the torch and we're going to go ahead and burn down any monkey huts we aren't actively going to keep.
Now, the tricky part is going to be that I need to lure all the monkeys to a specific spot. And I mean like all of them. I need to lure as many as humanly possible.
Here's to hoping this works.
Grab. Grab. Grab. They run. Run. Run.
Run. Run. Run. All right. All right. All right. And put them in my inventory.
Get all the monkeys in here. I need to lure as many as I can. Come on. Come on.
All of them. All of them. Come on. All of you. Come on. Keep coming.
Yeah. Yeah. I know. I know. I know. Rob me. Rob me. Come on. Rob [laughter] Rob Rob, come on. Come on, come on. I need to just keep some of them in my inventory. Come on.
Yes, okay.
And most of them are in place. [laughter] This is what I needed. I needed most of them over here.
Uh, okay. So, I need to run back over to my uh my boat. I need to grab some other luring items.
You know what? This will all be perfect.
This is exactly what I wanted. Go to here.
And I need to pick an item.
Drop.
Yes, okay. This is what I needed. Right here. This is exactly what I needed.
So, now that they're in this position, I just need to close the gate.
And now they're drowned.
Let me close the gate again.
And then more drowned.
Close the gate again. And then more drowned. And then I pick up all these nice resources just sitting on the ground. Hell yeah.
Now we just need to grab any other monkeys into this little gap. Come here.
Um over here.
Fantastic.
Then I just need to do this.
Good. He's now drowned. And then I need to move out of the way and then do this.
Good. Now he's now drowned. And now I just need to do it again.
Notice the stuff. Notice it. Notice it.
Notice it. Notice it. Notice it. A little bit further. Notice it.
Yes.
And the island is officially monkey-free.
Now I just need to grab all this stuff and then leave something here that's not going to vanish.
That is such an unbelievable amount of loot.
Look at it.
There are no monkey huts.
There are no stray monkeys.
And the best part is over here on this dock, there are two monkey huts, but there's a trap right here to catch them.
All right. The island is ours.
With Monkey Island finally conquered, I spent the day going through my hard-earned loot with my final goal being to move everything from the Lunar Island to my new permanent home. But with summer just around the corner, if I didn't prepare, all my nice new highly flammable resources would go up in smoke. Unfortunately, to fix this issue, I needed a flingomatic, which requires gold, ice, and gears, things I had basically none of. So, over the next few days, I packed my stuff, removed the alert plant from Pearl's Island so she'd sell me the winch recipe, and mined a few [music] boulders for nitre. Using Wilson's skills, I transmuted the nitre into gold, and after breaking a couple nearby glaciers, I had everything I needed except for one thing, gears. In a world with no mainland and no caves, gears are almost completely extinct with my main option being a low-chance gamble from sunken chests. But while testing this world beforehand, I made a discovery, a second way to get gears.
So, I packed my boat and set sail, praying I could build a flingomatic before everything went up in flames.
And I need to do all this by day 55. So, if I don't get two gears from this, I'm going to have to hope I can get it from the treasure chest.
All right, we've made it.
First thing we're going to do is we're going to deal with these monkeys right here real quick.
Awesome.
What we need to do is break the broken machinery.
And rarely, we will get a gear, but most of the time we'll end up getting this.
Please, please, please, please, please, give me some gears. I need two.
Nothing.
Okay, scrapping gears. I managed to get one gear. Can I get one more?
Yes! All right.
Alchemy engine is down and flingomatic is pre-built. Yes, we got here just in time.
With the flingomatic pre-built and ready, I could finally breathe. Now I could breeze through the summer heat, or so I thought. Being the idiot that I was, I believed I was ready for what was coming. So unaware of the trauma and danger I would be dealing with in a week's time, I set out to gather a bunch of sunken treasure and build out my shiny new home before summer arrived.
Getting that flingomatic pre-built is just such a weight off my shoulders. All right, first chest.
Glorious.
Now on to the next.
Chest number two.
All right, chest number three.
And we're back with our loot.
Let's see what we got.
Nice.
All right, and oh yeah, look at all that loot. I can see some good stuff in there.
Let's see what we got.
Honestly, this is actually a really good haul considering uh the arcade boat kit I'm definitely going to be setting up at some point, but the biggest thing is like those opulent pickaxes.
And I did also get a little bit of gold, which is definitely useful. I needed that. This is some really good stuff.
Now is the time to go and start figuring out how is this area going to be laid out.
And flingomatic is built.
>> Awesome.
Let's go and set these trees on fire.
I need charcoal so I can get I can get a crock pot. If I can get a crock pot, I can make some good meals and then I should be good from there.
There, nice.
Cuz I think the banana shakes also lower my temperature.
Oh.
This would be a good chance to test.
Nope, I'm not overheating. All right.
Well, here's to hoping I can cool off by being underneath these trees. With summer finally here, I was stuck on the island until it was over. And since I didn't have what I needed to make a endothermic fire or an icebox, my plan to stay cool involved a straw hat and standing in the shade. I knew it'd be annoying to deal with, but I wasn't too worried about it.
I mean, after all, summer couldn't get that hot, right?
This summer's going to suck.
I'll do that, that, that. Cool. All right, we have Ah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I don't want to take damage. Don't want to take damage. Calm down. Cool off, cool off, cool off.
I needed a little bit more niter in order to make a uh an endothermic fire.
And unfortunately, I don't have that.
Wait, hold on. Can I make I need gold.
Ah, I don't know if that's worth it. I really don't. Gold is so hard to come by.
Come on.
Let me cool off, please.
Why am I not cooling off? Please let me cool off.
But a trimmer. Oh, come on.
All right, now I need to deal with uh this, I guess. Hold on.
Ah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I don't I don't want to die.
I don't want to die from that. No, no, no.
Oh, man, this is going This is rough.
This is really rough.
My hatch is broke.
Come on, come on. I have to have some gold and doodads in here. Come on, gold and doodads.
Gold, [ __ ] Yeah, I need ice.
No.
Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no. Okay, I need um Why was I overheating there? I was under shade.
I can't move at all. If I do, then I instantly start taking damage.
I need to make that endothermic fire.
I have no choice now.
I don't know if I have enough grass now.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. My health. [ __ ] my health is going all the way down. I need the I I need this. I need this.
I need this. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[ __ ] I don't think I have enough still.
I need one more cut grass, and I don't I don't think I have an extra one over there.
Please tell me there's a piece of grass in here. Just one piece. One piece. Come on, one piece.
No.
Damn, I need to shade. I need to shade the trees.
My only chance is to just pray that I barely survive long enough for this thing to spit out its like bundle of grass in the morning.
I need one piece of grass.
Don't Don't overheat. Don't overheat.
Please don't overheat. Okay, wait, wait, wait. Come on, spit it out. Spit it out.
Spit it out. Give me the grass. Give me the grass. Grass.
I'm back under the trees. Cool off. Cool off. Okay.
>> [snorts] >> Run for it.
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. Come on.
PUT IT DOWN.
OH MY GOD, SIX HEALTH. Holy [ __ ] That was way too close. But luckily, I had just enough resources to scrap together an endothermic fire. I would have to keep it going for the rest of the summer, but after the scare I just had, I wasn't complaining at all. So, for the last 9 days of summer, I farmed kelp and bananas, avoided antlion by jumping on a boat, and ran my monkey farm. A task I enjoyed way more than I should have after everything they put me through.
Before too long, fall finally arrived, and I was able to let my campfire go out. My plan for the season was to briefly head back to my lunar base since I wanted to put down some extra plants in case I ever had to return in the future. But, my biggest goal was something else entirely. What I wanted more than anything was to get my hands on two items: a moon rock idol and portal paraphernalia. With these, I could transform into any other character I wanted, opening up new resources, farms, and abilities that would change the entire challenge. So, after building a new and improved boat for the journey, I prepared to set out. But, before I could even leave the dock, a group of uninvited guests appeared and gave me an unexpected gift. Ah, we're being looted.
What do you guys want? Hmm?
No, you don't. Ah, nope. No, no, no, no, no.
Look, kill him, kill him, kill him, kill him, kill him, kill him, kill him, kill him.
Oh my god, my boat. No.
Oh my god, what the [ __ ] man?
Hold on. Uh, where is a patch? Need a patch. Patch, patch, patch. Where is it?
Ah, and now I need to get rid of like five trinkets and [ __ ] Damn it. All right. Well, we can't leave yet, but at least we got a free boat, I guess.
Is that tree jam?
I'm so confused. Why is there tree jam?
I had no idea, no idea whatsoever, that you could actually get tree jam from a primate. Like, that's incredible.
Because if I can get tree jam, that means I can get fig trees. In this world, Glommer doesn't exist, which makes Glommer's goop and therefore tree jam impossible to craft. But now that I know that I could get it, I made some changes to my plans. I was still going to the Lunar Island and would upgrade my portal once I returned. But on the way back, I plan to make a quick stop to grab a very large nut.
And we're back.
Fantastic.
So now we have the portal paraphernalia and the moon rock idol. I'm going to take both of those with me whenever we go back to the Moon Key Island.
But while I am here, I'm going to go ahead and head up here and grab this sunken treasure cuz, you know, sunken treasure is sunken treasure.
Nice, we got the treasure.
Actually, you know what? I'm willing to bet a seed probably fell the last time that I dropped there. I'll go by there and I'll grab one of the big seeds and then I'll plant it over near Moon Key Island. And then if I defeat enough of the pirate raids, then I'll be able to grow a giant fig tree.
Yes.
Let's bump a tree.
Okay, there's one right there.
And we are back.
And I guess what I'll go ahead and do is I'll go ahead and use the portal paraphernalia on this.
The time has come. Let's go and get all the sunken chests and just go to town. So excited.
Let's do it.
>> [screaming] >> Look at this.
Look at the amount of wealth I have.
I can see a like three different golden pickaxes and a pickaxe, which is crazy.
I got a second lantern, which I I not expecting. There's a tool site suit, gems, there's there's everything here.
That was crazy worth it. Mm, fantastic.
Let's go ahead and figure out where I'm going to plant this um this fig tree.
Yeah, okay. That's the plan.
I know where I'm going to put my noble tree nut.
And we have planted our seed.
Let's go ahead and grab out the moon rocks that I have and grab out the one purple gem that I have >> [music] >> and make a cratered moon rock.
We're going to go ahead and make a cratered moon rock, then we're going to put the purple gem in it.
And now we have everything we need to fully upgrade the celestial portal.
Purple moon lens, moon rocks, fully upgraded.
And now we have a celestial portal and we already have an idol right over here.
All we need to do is just decide on who we want to change into and we're golden.
I decided to hold off on switching just yet to focus on improving my base, rearranging my trees, building some drying racks, and adding a salt box to the kitchen. My tropical paradise was looking great, but all my recent upgrades left my gold reserves bone dry.
And after nearly dying last summer, an endothermic fire pit was no longer optional. Since sunken chest was my only source of gold, I geared up for another voyage, desperately hoping to find some shiny loot. And let's just say I got way more than I bargained for.
And we got a chest.
Oh, oh. Okay, so two things. One, there's a narwhal, but this is one of those ocean set pieces. One of the ones that give like really good loot.
Oh, yeah. This This treasure chest is going to have some loot in it.
I think I do want to check this little dark spot and see what's in there.
There are I think like one or two of those set pieces that spawned that give like the really good treasure chest. So, if I'm lucky, I might be able to find another one. 1 minute later.
There's no way I just found another one.
I just found another one of those set pieces.
Beautiful.
Fantastic. We now have four treasure chests and two of them are the really nice ones.
And we're back. Nice.
And now comes the really fun part.
You ready?
What do we got?
Very nice. Gold! Yes, there's gold!
Literally out of everything that could have been dropped over here, that was the biggest thing I needed was gold.
Oh, I even got Thulecite helmet. Oh my god, look at all the stuff.
Oh, there's so much of it.
There's too much of it. Finding not one, but two ocean chest set pieces was absolutely wild. And with gold no longer an issue, I finally crafted an Endothermic fire pit to survive the brutal summer heat. Things were finally coming together. The island looked better than ever. I had tons of food and I'd managed to find some of the best weapons and armor in the entire game.
But over the last several days, I kept noticing that shiny unused portal on my island and knew I couldn't put it off any longer. So, while I was out voyaging, I had come up with a plan to take full advantage of Wilson's abilities before saying goodbye to him for the last time. So, the plan is I want to change from Wilson, but to do that I need to prepare. So, the first thing I need to do is I actually need to turn a large amount of my stone into flint because I can get extra stone, I can't get more flint.
So, I have all the flint made. Now, I need to get a bunch of rot. More specifically, I need 60 rot.
So, now we have 32 kelp fronds and 38 bananas. I'm going to drop these into the water.
And now we have a ton of stuff spoiling.
The reason why I'm making so much rot is so I can make manure.
Now, I have six manure. I believe I need 10.
Oh, nice.
And it looks like the rot has finally appeared. Which means I can go ahead and make the last little bit of manure needed.
Eight, nine, 10.
And now, we can finally turn to a new character. After gathering the last bit of manure I needed, it was time. I offered the idol, vanished into the light, and stepped out of the portal as Wormwood. For those who love playing as a plant, you know Wormwood is a resource powerhouse able to craft berry bushes, saplings, and monkey tails out of thin air. But for this challenge, I didn't need any of that. In fact, I was only after two things: living logs for a future project, and most importantly, a lure plant. In this world, gears are incredibly rare, making the chances of getting another flingomatic slim to none. But by placing a lure plant at the edge of a flingomatic's range, I could essentially extend my fire protection since lure plants catch on fire before anything else. Unfortunately, it would take a while before I could unlock the recipe. So, after crafting my small amount of manure into two compost traps for my future lure plant, I decided to take advantage of this extra time I had, which mainly meant base cleanup and finishing up some more treasure. But, what I really wanted to do was tend to that tiny fig tree that had faded to the back of my mind. Because once it was grown, I would never have to worry about protection from the sun ever again.
I'm just sailing out to try to find one more pirate raid cuz I need one more tree jam, and then I can make a fig tree.
So, I'm just going to take my time sailing around.
Speaking of pirates, yes, pirates pirates pirates pirates. Hold on them.
Hold on. Get on there and attack.
Attack.
Kill them.
Kill them. Kill them. Kill them. Kill them. Kill them. Kill them. Kill them all. KILL THEM ALL. GO. GO. Kill them.
Kill them. KILL THEM. KILL THEM.
>> [screaming] >> YES.
Where's the jam? Where is it?
Look. There it is.
My glorious jam.
Okay, I need to briefly row this back over here and go through all the loot.
And I'm going to leave everything else behind. I need nothing else from this.
I am so excited for this.
And the last tree jam. Once this is grown, it's going to be a giant tree, and I'm so excited for it.
I have some extra stone for it. I don't need Ooh, and I just got an insight point. Okay, so we need to go and mark that. We are one insight point away from having my alert plant. And then that's literally the only reason I'm staying as Wormwood.
Yep, today is officially summer. So, let me go turn on the fling-o-matic while I'm at it. With the summer sun beating down on me, and just one insight point away from finally crafting a lure plant, my glorious fig tree finally grew up, giving me a reliable source of food and much-needed protection from the heat.
Honestly, growing a giant tree in this world wasn't something I thought was possible, but here it was, and I couldn't have been happier. And to top it off, early the next day I got the final insight point I needed to unlock lure plant crafting. After nearly 20 days of waiting, I finally made a single lure plant bulb and then, without hesitation, immediately made the switch to my next character, Wickerbottom, the librarian herself. She was capable of crafting powerful books that could call down lightning, speed up plant growth, and even change the moon cycle. But, just like with Wormwood, I had different plans. In fact, several of her books are uncraftable in this world, but there was one that I could make, a book I'd never really used before, but now it was critical for overcoming one of my biggest hurdles in this challenge. So, after crafting her bookcase, I placed it down and gathered the materials I needed to make the everything encyclopedia, requiring only a bit of gold, stone, and papyrus. This book allows you to prototype most items without needing their crafting stations, which includes the prestidigitator, which I can't build since rabbits don't exist in this world.
Up until this point, I'd played the entire challenge with zero respawns, fully aware that any of the dozen close calls I'd had up until now could have been my last. So, I'm not exaggerating when I say that placing down that respawn point lifted a massive weight off my shoulders. For the rest of the summer, I stayed as Wickerbottom, not because I had any other plans for her, but because I only had one idle left, and I needed to use it wisely. So, I passed the days dodging antlion, harvesting my newly grown figs, and even relocating my entire kitchen beneath the shade of the tree, all the while trying to decide who my final transformation would be. Ideally, it had to be someone useful, someone who could get me resources I couldn't easily obtain on my own. I had a few ideas, but before I could settle on one, I discovered something I didn't even consider. I didn't have to use the everything encyclopedia to craft all my magic items. Instead, I just had to use it once to craft the shadow manipulator, the final magic station you normally can't craft without the prestidigitator.
I had no idea you could just skip a crafting station, but this was great, because when I eventually switch characters, whoever I become would be able to craft any magic item, no book required. And then with summer finally coming to a close, I figured out who my last idol was meant for. But before transforming, I had one thing left to do. I set up a potter's wheel near my tree, turned the small amount of marble I had into statues, and used them to block off a nearby dock. It might seem strange, but trust me, I was onto something. And then with fall finally here, I walked over to the celestial portal, offered the idol, and transformed into the one and only Webber. And I did it for one simple reason, silk. Sure, there were shattered spider nests back on the lunar islands that I could have used, but by setting up a simple spider farm using the nest Webber spawns with, I now had a much easier renewable source right at home.
Now, you might be wondering, what do I even need the silk for? Well, while silk is used for a ton of things in a world this massive, where the only way is to travel by boat, I had something special in mind. I was going to use this resource to build the best boat this world has ever seen, and take it on its maiden voyage back to where it all began. Let's do it.
>> [groaning] >> Check it out. We can make one bit of feathered canvas.
And all I need is four, and I can make a Malbatross sail.
>> [groaning] >> And there it is, the last silk I need to make a sail.
And now I have a winged sail kit, my first sail in this whole challenge.
Oh, I'm so excited.
And now the boat is fully finished. This is a perfect boat. I I can't improve this any more other than by adding like more sails or something, and that's literally it.
I think I know what I want to do on my last trip, my maiden voyage for the perfect boat. First thing is I have the stuff to make another idol. I want to make sure I have an extra just in case we continue the challenge. Then, over here is a buried treasure. I want to grab that, and then back on the Lunar Island, right here, is a buried treasure. Oh, I'm so excited. All right, let's go.
We finally have a sail.
Yes.
It's so so nice having a genuinely good boat build. What are you trying to get?
Hold on. Let me Let me see what he wants. Oh, never mind. He gave up.
He was determined.
We're already almost there. Dude, I forgot how fast boats are when you're not paddling.
Last treasure of the challenge.
We are now back. I'm going to grab the treasure right here, and then I'm going to make one more idol, and then we are going to probably swing by Pearl's Island to grab a few more stingers, cuz why not, and then we'll head back to base, and we will spend the last couple days just keeping things going.
All right, we have the idol made.
Uh a bunch of hats. I also see Is that gold? Ooh! Oh! We got gold nuggets.
Worth it. Absolutely worth it.
Nice. Very very nice.
This is the last time we are saying goodbye to the Lunar Island.
Uh I feel almost uh feel almost nostalgic.
We're going to head over to Pearl's, grab a few stingers, and then we are going to get out of here.
And that is everything.
I'm going to go ahead and head back to base.
>> [whistles] >> Oh, actually missed this treasure right here. I completely forgot that it existed. Uh yeah, we'll go and grab that on the way back. Get a couple of free treasures towards the end of things.
Last two treasures of the challenge.
It's so awesome that you can get a lot from this world from just those few islands. And there's still a lot more you can do. Like there's a lot that I haven't done. There are so many characters I didn't turn into, and there's several characters that I didn't utilize properly. But in all honesty, I'm really happy with how this has all turned out.
And we are home.
We'll go and crack open our last couple chests, and then I'm probably just going to spend my last day just doing a couple chores.
Ooh, oh, yes, another lantern. That's fantastic, actually.
Oh, man.
That is actually a lot of really good stuff. And some more gears. Ooh.
Woohoo. Okay, that's actually some really good stuff.
Check it out. I got a second ice box.
Like that alone is just incredible.
Yeah, I'm just going to place it right here.
Be able to keep all of my cool stuff cool.
All right, it is day 150, and that is when I was hoping to survive to. So, I'm just going to walk around the island really quick. Just give you a quick tour of everything we've done. So, down here, we have storage on the left, storage on the right, and we have crafting stuff in the middle, which includes an alchemy engine, a think tank, a shadow manipulator, tacker receptacle, and a bookcase for wickerbottom. In the middle, we have our main fire pit and an endothermic fire pit. And over here on the left, we have our various tools.
Right over here, we have a lot of our crops. And the reason why we have most of our crops right here in the middle is simply because of the flingomatic. In the middle, I have a ton of trees, and I have a celestial portal with a chest right here that has moon rocks, purple gems, and any idols that I found. Right here is my bull kelp, which I have like 30 or 40 bull kelp crammed into this one block. Over here, I have a couple of drying racks as well as two stone fruit bushes, which is awesome.
Then we have my kitchen, which has four crock pots, salt box, a chest for the stone fruit bushes, and an ice box that just placed down. And then as you obviously could tell, we have the unnatural portal, which throws out a bunch of random resources. We have a meat effigy, which the only reason I was able to craft this and the shadow manipulator without needing a prestihatitator was from Wickerbottom's everything encyclopedia. We have a fig tree, which I am super happy I was able to grow. We have like a small spider farm right here, which I wasn't able to expand any further than it is right now.
And then we have the part that I'm actually the most proud of, which is my monkey trap. So normally when you kill powder monkeys, you get those like cursed trinkets on you. And while I could do that and like grab some bananas and get rid of it, if you go into here, you only open the gate, you close it, and then you just go up to them and you close these wooden gates.
They just instantly die. And they drop anything they had, which is mainly cutlasses and the occasional bandana.
