The current gunpowder shortage is primarily caused by a scarcity of nitrocellulose, a critical propellant ingredient with limited global production capacity, compounded by import challenges, military demand from multiple nations, and hazardous material transportation restrictions, which together create supply bottlenecks that will likely persist and cause continued price increases for ammunition.

How Serious Is The Gun Powder Supply Problem?!Added:
We've been hearing a bit about ammo shortages and primarily because of a few issues and the biggest one being a shortage of powder of gun powder specifically of the components back in 2020 when there was the last major ammo shortage. there was the shortage of primers as the main thing missing. If we had primers, we probably wouldn't have been in the situation we were in. So, we're going to take a look at this issue with gunpowder and find out how real is this because what I have heard is that uh from pretty reliable sources is that it may run out and then it may be a while before we see it again. So, how realistic is this and and what is causing this? Well, the biggest reasons that are being mentioned and and these are all true reasons is the number one number one out of all these reasons is a shortage of nitroc cellulose. Nitroc cellulose is one of the primary ingredients in propellant and there's not that many companies making it. It's a very difficult thing to come by lately and most of it is being gobbled up by other entities which we'll talk about next.
Nitroc cellulose factories take quite a bit to build as far as time and money.
It it's not something we just throw a nitro cellulose factory up and and lickety split, but it it takes time and it takes a lot of money to do that as well. But there's not that many nitroc cellulose factories and let's just get real.
Most of them are not in the United States. So we're importing a vast majority of our nitroc cellulose into the United States. Even companies that are making the gunpowder here in the US, they're not getting the nitro cellulose from the US most likely. So we also have a lot of import issues taking place that have really been problems since the co era that now that we have even kind of a the smoke settling from the trade war so to say. Uh this stuff's pretty bottlenecked to be quite honest as far as getting it into the country at an affordable price. And it's this nitroc cellulose importing also because of tariffs and that sort of thing that you're seeing your ammo prices go up quite a bit in 2026 specifically.
Also, military demand is taking a vast majority of the ammo and a vast majority of the gunpowder and a vast majority of the nitro cellulose.
uh rising global instability and wars in Ukraine is it's just being gobbled up not just by the US military but also by European militaries around that continent as well as uh Russia and China and India and Pakistan. Everybody's trying to get as much nitro cellulose and as much gunpowder as they can get.
As a matter of fact, it used to be that America was the number one small arms and large munitions producer in the world. Not anymore. It is Germany and China. Both of them have passed what America is doing. So, they're literally consuming a vast majority of this nitro cellulose.
Um, also limited powder manufacturing as well, you know, cuz you're limited by the ingredients, but you're also limited by capacity. Now, how much even if you had all the ingredients, you can only produce so much out of one particular factory. Also, hazardous material transport problems. This is a big one as well that we think, well, why is it so hard to get gunpowder or nitroc cellulose? Well, it's explosive and it takes special shipping restraints to get it here uh safely and get it across the country safely and get it to factories safely. So, we're dealing with that as well. And on top of all that, what you have is you have the militaries of the world consuming all of it. You have the police departments of the of the world consuming all the ammo.
Uh and and last, you have civilians.
We're we're the least producers. You know, cuz I've as I talk about this on this channel and suggest to people that you should go out and stock up. Not hoard, but stock up. A lot of people say, "Oh, you're causing panic by like there there there's no way I could cause a panic." It would c it would take something like World War III starting an attack on American soil. Um, another sort of COVID situation. It's not within my power to do that sort of thing uh to cause a panic buy. I'm just giving you the recommendation. You definitely should be stocking up for sure if you haven't already. But don't hoard uh don't put yourself in a situation where you need to panic buy. And to be quite honest, what we're seeing and and and please put it in the comments below.
What are you seeing in your neck of the woods? Cuz what I've seen in my area is that I shoot a lot of 380. I I haven't I haven't found it. I'm having a hard time finding 380. Uh things like 38 special as well. These are your secondary carry rounds compared to like 9 mm uh 40 Smith and Wesson, that sort of thing. So that second layer is starting to disappear first. I would have predicted it would have been the 9 mm disappeared first.
But I think what's happening is as the nitro cellulose becomes a little more scarce and the gunpowder a little more scarce, these ammo factories are focusing on the big ones, the 9 mm, the 5.56 and 223, the 308 or 7.62 NATO, the 22 LR, and the 12 gauge, and everything else is just kind of put on the back burner. So, uh, get get it while you can. And and and even if it is readily available, one thing is for sure, it is absolutely going up in price. We've seen two major spikes this year already by all major ammo manufacturers across the board. You're definitely going to be seeing it again, especially as this nitro cellulose becomes more and more rare. So, uh, that's really what we're dealing with. Uh, you know, hopefully there's not a big run on ammo, but again, I think the only thing that would do it is would be like World War II started an attack on American soil, some sort of COVID situation again. It it takes something like that. So, um, but get it while you can. That is for sure.
Definitely you should be stocking up on ammo and but don't hoard it. Definitely don't hoard it. So, uh there you go, man. Love to know your thoughts on any of this, especially if you have any insight on the gunpowder manufacturing or the nitro cellulose production, put that in the comments below. I do want to take a moment say if you feel called to support this channel with Patreon, that link is also below. But the most important part of this channel is we take prayer requests. So, please don't ever hesitate to send that in. And in this moment, I'd like to pray for every single person watching this video. It's something God has asked me to put in these and I want to be obedient to it cuz he loves us like crazy. And I'm going to include myself in this prayer as well. So, heavenly father, Lord God, thank you for being who you are in our lives.
Lord, we need you. We need your holy presence, Father. Lord, I pray that you fill this room that I'm in.
And whoever's watching this right now, whatever space they are in, their car, their home, their office, whatever, fill it with your Holy Spirit, Lord.
Fill them with your Holy Spirit, myself as well, Lord. Let us feel your holy presence in this moment and after even after this, Lord.
God, I pray that even in the moments following, you give us a moment of of silence and a moment of quiet to just reflect on you and you alone, Lord, and and see the glory that you are and the way you help us and the way you protect us and the way you provide for us, Lord.
It's it just show it to us in a powerful way in the moments following this video specifically. Lord God, I ask that you guard over us fiercely. Any wicked person or wicked principality that comes up against us, cast that stuff far away from us in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen. Well, thank you for watching episode of God, Family, and Guns. And as always, love God, love your family, love guns.
