Its length could reach a full 24 m, much longer than a school bus. These teeth were over 18 cm long, and scientists describe them as ultimate cutting tools. They occupied the top of the ocean's food chain. In other words, they could eat almost anything that came their way. So, why did they go extinct? About 3.6 million years ago, the oceans cooled, and they couldn't compete for food with the more agile great white sharks. The legend that they still live in the Mariana Trench is completely impossible because they depended on warm coastal waters.
