[00:00:00]My basic theory was that Iran couldn't become a nuclear state. [music] That it that uh the regime itself uh was murderous often times towards its own people uh engaged in state-sponsored terrorism um was a threat to the United States and allies of ours.

[00:00:27]So, the idea that they would have nuclear weapons would be extraordinarily dangerous.

[00:00:31]Uh it would also trigger uh a nuclear arms race in what is a powder keg.

[00:00:39]What I also believed was that the regime was not entirely irrational. That they had an survival instinct.

[00:00:47]Um and that when you carry out military force, innocent people die. So, we should try to use that as a last resort instead of the first.
