Non-venomous snakes like rat snakes are generally docile and will not attack unless provoked or stepped on; they typically flatten their bodies when they sense a threat, which is a defensive behavior rather than an aggressive one. These snakes can grow up to 7 feet long, mate for life, and have learned to rattle their tails as a warning mechanism. They are beneficial to humans as they control rodent populations by eating mice, squirrels, and other small animals. Snakes shed their skin once or twice per year, using rough surfaces like concrete corners to peel off their old skin, and are most likely to bite when they cannot see properly during the shedding process.

Settling Into Summer | Emma & Cody PonceAñadido:
[music] [music] >> Tada!
Good morning!
And welcome back to Tennessee.
We are home for a minute.
For a minute.
Um yeah. Between California and the next stop, um we swung into Tennessee just to get our life a little bit in order.
It's been a thing, but there is just something so insanely awesome and healing about where we live.
You don't need to be cleaned.
Much better.
Anyway.
You're my leg.
Sorry, team.
There's something so incredibly amazing and healing about where we live because it is just straight nature.
And check it out.
A literal jungle right now.
Hydrangeas coming through. Cabin vibes are strong. Kai is living his best.
Um I'm about to order a electric chainsaw.
I've never used one.
Us with the more delicate fingers highly recommend. All right, so you guys know we always have an interesting state to the cabin. Um we're definitely still in unpacking situation, but F it. I mean, you guys have seen the weird stuff, so let's go.
Honestly, this is like a thousand times better than what it was.
>> [gasps] >> Hey, dude. Should we throw your ball first?
The little Chuckit machine.
I don't know if it's a machine, but saving mom's shoulder.
Come on, Kai.
What a transition.
Hey, gang.
>> Hey, everybody.
>> Morning, [snorts] Ponces.
Lane got a new car.
We had one in um So, where were we?
We're in California.
And then so, it's on either way.
Had one in California, couldn't get it back.
Then we ordered another one to the address in California that we were staying.
Had them return it instead of shipping it to us. And then we ordered another one, and it obviously doesn't fit in a mailbox, so they said we had to go pick it up at the post office. So, after like a 2-week saga, 5 minutes.
Damascus.
>> [crying] [clears throat] >> I'm right here.
>> [screaming] >> Oh.
Oh.
What is this?
What is this?
>> Your mom, you're snotty, Dad.
>> Well, she just got snotty cuz she wasn't wearing it.
>> Here, Dad.
Come here, Manners.
YOU'RE LITERALLY BLOWING BUBBLES.
>> WOO!
>> ATTAGIRL.
>> Kind of.
I got one.
Oh, wait. Hold on. I got one more little break. Can you put on >> One more little break.
>> Speed play.
Da da da da da da.
>> [snorts] >> Yeah.
Oh, you're not.
>> [snorts] >> All right. Now, the big difference in why we got this one instead of the other one is because it was available a week earlier and because >> You can push her.
>> I can push her.
Da da da da da da.
Okay, this is your race car insert, but I don't want to put it in yet cuz I don't have the batteries.
And then >> That makes you go speed racer fast.
>> Sun shade.
Ta-da!
>> [screaming] >> Does that thing extend up? Is that as high as it goes?
>> That's as high as it goes.
>> You'll be a little racer. You'll be doing pushing slats.
>> Woo!
>> You sure those brakes are supposed to be on there?
>> No.
>> Oh.
Sure.
>> Parenting.
>> 101.
>> Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da.
Wow, Laney!
You're so good.
>> [screaming] >> Upgrades.
I took the I took the brake pads off.
Upgrades from the last one. I like that there's a little bounce plate.
Right? So, it doesn't uh so she doesn't get splinters. And then the little sun shade, which doesn't seem necessary right now, BUT TADA!
WHAT'S UP, YOUTUBE?
HI.
HI.
YEAH. OH, here's my little wiggler.
Oh. Are you showing off on camera?
Okay.
Anyway, we are at our cabin in Nashville. It is so gorgeous, so sunny, and I'm so >> [sighs] >> uh so grateful to be here. Um we're definitely I feel like anytime I'm on my vlog, I kind of I don't know. I'm trying not to do to be this way, but like I present like messy and chaotic, and I know that um those of you who like know what's going on would or even here you don't, you'd be like, "Be nice to yourself and chill out." But there is a level of just like chaos that I always feel like I present, and I'm feel like we are transitioning to the other side of that stage of life, like post moving to Toronto and the injury and everything.
>> [laughter] >> And everything, and like having a baby internationally, and all the things. And so, I just feel like this big sense of calm right in this moment, right now. In like an hour it might be different, but um yeah.
Um yeah. So, I just wanted to do a LITTLE CHECK-IN, AND >> [laughter] >> HE'S CHECKING IN?
YOU'RE SO SPECIAL.
Um last week my grandfather Carl, um my paternal grandfather passed away.
And um >> [sighs and gasps] >> it's very sad. Uh my It was my dad's dad. And um yeah, it's crazy how like death and mourning something, um it just comes in these like really it just comes in waves, obviously. Um but Carl um was at an assisted living facility in Iowa, um just cuz we tried to get him to come to New Mexico for forever to be with my parents, but it just he wanted to be in Iowa.
So, that was best option, and so he ended up getting transferred to one that was um in Mount Union, and it was incredible. Like, the staff was incredible. Everyone was just wonderful, like the way that they checked in with us. Um and so as far as like end-of-life care, it was a really really special place.
Um yeah, so feeling very grateful for people who do that line of work in nursing and [crying] care taking that way. Um but it was really cool because they were right by my grandma Lucky, who So, Carl was 93.
And my grandma Lucky is 103. And so, my grandma and all my mom My mom has um nine sisters. She's one of 10 girls. And they would not all of them, but like all the ones who were around um like still in the area would go and >> [crying] >> go and visit my grandpa, and my uncles would and everything. And so, it was this really cool embrace um from like one side of the family to the other, which that kind of camaraderie and friendship had always always been there, but it was really special. Um I just Yeah.
So, anyway, I'm feeling really sad cuz I thought Lane was going to get to go back and meet Grandpa Carl, but we like really just missed it by a week. [crying] And so, >> [laughter] >> Give me your babe. Anyway, so my mom and I was like I can't wait any longer. I got to get Lane back to meet my grandma, but I just don't want to take time for granted.
We are I shipped our furniture from Bonz all if you guys remember the California Bonz all house.
We had this epic couch. Love this couch.
I almost shipped it up to Canada. That's how much I liked the couch, which glad I didn't cuz that would have been a logistical nightmare. Anyway, we shipped it back here because my parents are moving into a house like right down in in the area. And so, yeah, gummy grandpa will be here. And so, they're going to use the couch. White couch, which is going to be really beautiful in that space. Yay! Was not very like first baby and dog friendly.
Yeah, where you going?
Anyway, so we're going to do that.
My neighbor has some new baby goats.
Yep, we're going to go meet the new baby goats. We met them last night.
But they are doing great. And then, we're going to hit a little food truck.
So, food truck situation. So, we thought we'd just take you along for a fun day with us.
Dun dun da What's up, goat gang?
All right, pregnant mama, son, another mama.
Gorgeous dog. Dog groomer.
Let's go find these babies.
>> Where did she get the dog?
>> Uh with the goats. The dog came with the goats.
This is her birthing barn that she has got on Facebook Marketplace.
Hey goats.
I think they're around the other side.
Well, let's go this way.
Hey girls.
Yeah.
>> [gasps] >> Hey little ones.
>> Look how sweet they are.
>> Hi little ones.
>> They're so nice. Come here. Show me your babies.
Show me your babies.
>> Uh I know. Look at their little tails.
And then Charlemagne just takes care.
They are so cute.
>> They're such cute babies.
>> This one is nursing and pooping at the same time.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Incredible. Good job, mama.
>> Aw.
>> Oh my, aren't they gorgeous?
>> They're so cute.
>> Hey girls.
>> Did they How many days old are they?
>> They were born yesterday.
>> Oh my god. That's crazy.
>> Yeah, yeah. Like yesterday morning.
Yeah.
>> Look at Laney. He's doing what you do.
>> Yeah.
Woohoo.
Hey girl. Charlemagne loves babies. She loves Laney.
>> Sweet girl.
Oh my god.
>> [laughter] >> Open the liking.
>> Look at his little feet. Little goat feet.
>> Oh my goodness.
Look at him, ladies.
>> [laughter] >> So cute.
Hi, little baby goat.
>> Hi, little goat.
>> Oh my god, you're so sweet. I want to take you home.
>> I know.
>> [laughter] >> Hey, Lynn.
Look at the baby goat. Hey.
>> Hey, Lynn. Look. Goat.
Look at it.
>> Wow.
>> Hey, Charlemagne.
>> You're doing a good job protecting.
>> Oh my goodness.
>> Look at him, ladies.
>> Wait, you want to check my phone?
Oh. Oh.
>> So cute.
Hey, baby goat.
>> [laughter] >> What are you doing?
Look at what he's being.
>> [laughter] >> Hi.
You're so cute.
Oh my goodness.
>> It's the best.
>> Oh, he's freaking cute.
>> Just all the baby goat content.
>> Yay.
Oh, and we had to >> Oh my gosh, little baby goats.
Get up there again. Do it. Yeah.
Parkour.
Do it again.
Oh my gosh.
So cute.
Good job, mama.
Kingston Springs going off.
We decided to go with the uh Southern Smokehouse.
Back to our pulled barbecue pulled pork Iowa roots.
Girls can't resist.
>> How was it?
Woo.
>> Hey little shrimp. Hey girl. Hey girl.
Heck yeah.
>> [music] [music] >> What camps do you do in the summer?
You're doing camps with your mama?
>> [singing] >> I have a ukulele.
>> [singing] [music] [music] >> I love you Laney.
>> [music] >> Music appreciation.
First day of school.
Yeah, I know it.
>> [music] [music] >> Are you standing?
>> [music] >> Woo!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Hercules, Hercules.
Hercules, Hercules.
>> It's a little tea bird.
>> Woohoo! Say free bird.
>> We want free bird.
>> Oh, no.
Good job, Meanie.
>> Crikey.
>> Look at that guy.
Head.
Tail.
That's maybe the biggest snake I've ever seen.
I like snakes and that gives me the heebie-jeebies.
>> True. That one at least is one of the ones that's going to >> This eats venomous snakes. This is a rat snake?
>> Right.
>> Hi.
Is he going to go back under my house?
Should we toss him down the hill?
Or you don't want to want him under the house. This I love her.
All right, give me the lowdown.
>> All right, so gray rat snake, pretty good one.
>> Pretty good one.
>> Probably 4 ft ish, something like that.
Welcome to Tennessee.
>> And you said they mate for life?
>> Yeah, they do. And they can get like 7 ft long.
They've also learned to rattle their tail. It's kind of like a rattlesnake.
>> Do we have rattlesnakes here?
>> What's that?
>> Do we have rattlesnakes here?
>> We do.
>> Okay.
Anyway.
>> And rattlesnakes go hand in hand, so.
>> Say that again.
>> If they have any, they'd be probably like right here.
>> Rocks and rattlesnakes?
>> Wood piles and copperheads go together.
And then when you're on the water they're like tree roots.
>> Hey girl.
What should we name her?
>> But he keeps your rodents, non-venomous snakes, lizards, etc. in check.
>> Hey little buddy.
>> It's actually kind of curious if you would say >> I like you.
Snakes have never freaked me out. Like I don't want poisonous ones around the baby.
But Hi.
>> You're obviously getting that pretty chill snake vibes as Louie crawling towards >> I don't think I'm going to pet you, but Hi. Look at you posing for the camera.
>> I will say the rat snake is pretty docile. I've held quite a few. That's a big one though, so >> Hi.
It's not going to like lunge at me, right?
Potentially.
I'll stand up. Maybe I'll stand up.
Right? She's like flirting with us.
She's like, "Thanks for letting me live under your house."
>> Probably knows, she's just saying. Like >> Oh wow, that's a crazy thought.
Just that he thinks she might know me.
I like Oh, look at her coil up.
Cool.
>> When you see him flatten out, that typically means they're kind of a bit >> Oops.
>> Not scared, but just kind of kind of like we would do in the wild life. They kind of just freeze.
So when you see him kind of flatten down like that, usually they're looking at you and they're waiting for you to move away or etc. I'd say now she probably wants to go away.
Now she's got this like a big >> She probably knows me.
>> Probably knows.
>> I low key that creeps me out, but I love it.
That creeps me out a little bit, but I love it. Wait, so did you move that that skin there?
>> No.
>> That's just been there?
>> Yes, so they use like the AC corners or like the corners of these concrete have a little bit more surface area and they can peel it off of them.
>> Right.
>> Roughly they'll shed once or twice a year depending upon the species.
And then little footnote, if a snake's ever shedding and they can't see they're that's when they're most likely to bite you.
>> Okay.
>> Like don't mess with them just cuz you get >> I should have you on my vlog more.
>> What's that?
>> I said I should have you on my vlog more.
Nature-esque expert.
>> Bring it on.
I know the great grass snake well and I respect them.
>> Ah.
>> I really found them with like whole chipmunks and squirrels inside them.
>> Yeah, girl looks hungry.
Would she ever attack Kai? What would that interaction be?
>> No, she's going to be scared like >> Okay.
>> They don't smell though so he may get like right up on her and it will freak Kai out and kind of cause her to freak out too but usually they don't strike unless you step on them like I said they're pretty docile.
>> Oh my gosh, this is so much snake footage. I feel like I'm going to lose a lot of followers for this.
>> But you have the non-venomous >> Hey babe, look at you go. Oh my gosh, look at her.
>> Look at the tree.
>> She looks like a dragon. Kai's like >> So yeah.
>> I've never seen >> Probably a decade or older I would guess. That'd be my guess.
>> Wow.
>> They live a long time.
>> She probably knows me.
>> She probably >> See you, girl.
Go in peace.
Kill some rats.
I actually think I have another mouse in my kitchen so if you can come back that'd be great.
Look at her.
She's like, "Okay, see you later."
>> Bye, Emma.
>> Look at her.
>> Thank you for not reading me, Michael.
>> Yeah, no kidding. I'm so glad you didn't. I was thinking about that. I was like you probably Did you take a picture?
Hey girl.
Oh my gosh, it looks amazing. Good morning.
We are going to the King's Street Farmers Market. We pull in and someone >> Someone >> Someone has made an exploding.
Yay! So I'm the queen of woo woo woo woo woo.
>> She's lucky.
Okay, great Lane.
Laney.
Did she get it?
It's okay. She Look Look at her. Look.
She's looking at the camera.
>> Hey girls. She's getting my good side.
>> You are just looking at the camera.
You just want on the camera.
>> Good job, Laney.
I'm telling you guys, the Millie Moon diapers I've been so impressed.
>> I didn't bring the dog things.
>> They're in there. They're in this.
>> Oh, of course they are.
>> diaper stash. In the diaper stash.
Anyway.
Wow. Jeez, child.
I I was a Coterie girl.
We were Coterie household.
Partially, like biggest thing I'm not Okay. I'm not quite done yet. Thank you.
>> Okay, it's all right.
>> Was because I like that they're plain.
>> I mean, no designs or just solid.
>> No design. I like that they're plain because I think it looks really better under their little clothes and their little clothes are so thin sometimes.
But um >> She's really >> You are doing some work, my sis. Anyway.
Uh >> They now you're believer in >> But the Millie Moon has never leaked on me.
Unless she needed to upsize. Then there was a little bit of leakage. Just straight girth of the baby.
But >> I know I have one more.
I have another set. Of course you do.
You are a good mom.
Don't zip it yet. Don't zip it yet.
>> No.
Got it.
>> Pull this up. Hold it nice.
I have a system.
That would be a fun thing to observe is like how like just systems of different moms.
>> What do you do when you have a blowout?
What do you do? What do you do when you >> Who are you as a mother when you have a blowout? That's the question.
>> Be calm.
>> That's the question.
>> Those babies, moms.
>> Here's my little lemon.
>> for our produce and bread and whatever we find. All our goods.
>> Yes, she's a lemon today.
>> Okay, I'm going to leave that, but I want to bring the fan.
And her hat.
Which fits her head right.
Put it on the front of these.
P one.
You have a pink hat?
>> All right, grandma.
>> Hey, hey. This is my second time to the Kingston Springs Farmers Market.
>> Oh.
>> But last year was my first.
>> Uh-huh.
>> Been here >> Haven't been here this year. I haven't either. I came to that little party in the park.
>> that >> And we're going to go to the that new spot's got a new thing happening tomorrow.
>> Did you get your little hat?
Lane.
Hey, grandma.
>> So, I'm walking around the Kingston Springs Community Garden and [snorts and clears throat] it's incredible.
They cleared out a bunch of old trees and then there was a big barn back here that had all the wood, which was enough to make this incredible fence.
Um and they feed families or people in need in the Kingston Springs area, and it's such a community. Oh, look at these >> [snorts] >> Look at these.
So, it's just all about how can everybody grow a little bit more food so that nobody goes without.
Look at these. Ah.
Wow. This is my goal.
Look at you with the goods.
>> [screaming] >> It's sustainable.
My little lemon.
>> You know, you plant herbs and Like literally just go to Salem's, get 10 plants, and you'll have [snorts] this.
>> He's coming tomorrow. I know. This is really what I love.
Mine aren't as wide, but Hey, we're doing it tomorrow. If you want to If you want to be around.
All right.
So, Lady and I are about to take a test.
Okay, she's sitting in her race car.
Oh my god.
The way you have to pee and you have to get these open.
Wow.
Okay.
>> [snorts] >> Here we go.
Wow, I'm feeling a little jittery.
>> [screaming] >> I haven't got my period again yet, but um I know.
Mom's crazy.
>> [snorts] >> Yeah. Maybe, maybe not.
Okay.
Looking not pregnant.
Kind of thought that I was, not going lie. Kind of thought that I was.
Woke up feeling a little nauseous.
Pretty nauseous.
Huh.
I will say I took a test like this when I found out I was late, though, and it said not pregnant and then the next day it showed up as pregnant.
It's been about 2 weeks. Yeah, looking not pregnant. Okay.
And Yeah, that's a strong not. Shoot.
That would have been awesome.
Maybe I'll just let it sit there a little longer.
