The Height Of Nonsense | Episode 9Hinzugefügt:
Hello there folks and welcome to the latest episode of the hidden nonsense.
Thanks very much for watching again.
Um I've had a a long week a long week but I'm here.
I'm here.
Um and I've just had to run out in the street in my house coat nothing on underneath it because the postman came to the door to deliver a parcel.
So the postman comes to the door to deliver a parcel.
I'm in the toilet.
>> [snorts] >> No longer in my bed. I'm in the toilet.
Uh and the ring doorbell goes. So I go and ring doorbell and say 2 minutes mate.
I'll be there in 2 minutes. So I get everything sorted and I'm going out. Uh but while I'm getting sorted Sammy's at the gym.
And she's went on to the ring doorbell and she says just put it around the back.
So the guy's went and put it around the back. Now normally what happens is they go they come in put the parcel there they leave and they lock the gate.
But this week well today I should say the postman decided that he wasn't going to lock the gate.
So I went eight boys he's went went to the garden and I was going out to pick up the the parcel. Open the door the dogs bomb it at the end of the garden.
And I walk along the gate's line way open. [ __ ] dogs are nowhere to be seen.
Nowhere to be seen.
So like I said I've just got my house coat on.
I'm no longer up. Sammy thought I was in the shower so she's answered the door as well.
I've put my house coat obviously I've got my house coat on because I'm in the garden to pick up the [ __ ] the parcel. So I had to run out into the street. Luckily the dogs are standing at the end of the driveway.
Right sniffing about so I pretended I'm that I've got a treat and I walk up and I grab them both on with the collar. Now, I haven't get eh, the leads with me because I didn't have time to grab the leads. So, I'm trying to bring them into the house by the collar. And you know when a dog doesn't want to go somewhere and it just puts its claws into the ground and refuses to move? That's what the two of them done to me at once. Now, I'm standing out in the street, house coat on, bent over with two dogs in my hand and I can feel my house coat starting to undo.
Now, like I said, I've getting nothing on underneath first, man. So, I'm slightly panicking and I look down the street and I see there was a guy down at the internet box fixing the internet box like a worky guy.
So, I'm like that.
I shouted on him, "Excuse me, mate.
Can you come and give me a hand here?"
So, he comes up. He gives me a hand. And he lifts Alchie, I lift Rocky. As I'm doing that, I managed to get my house coat back to eh, film film modesty.
Thank god.
>> [laughter] >> And then, eh, I get them in the back. The guy is carrying Alchie, I'm carrying Rocky. Put them down. The guy walks away, turns around to me and goes like that. Can't wait to hear about it on A Pint of Two Shots.
>> [laughter] >> I know, man. So, he's got a story for his pals and I've got a story for the podcast eh, this week. But, I am slightly annoyed everybody in the world watches A Pint of Two Shots because I cannot go a day without somebody, a random person, mentioning it and more than one, actually. So, if you've never listened to A Pint of Two Shots, get on it.
It's my bread and butter.
Me, Grado, Steven talk about football, talk about a lot of [ __ ] as well. It's not all football related. Um, in fact, I'd probably say a small percentage of it is football related.
But, talk to me about A Pint of Two Shots this Saturday past. We had a live show at the Pavilion and it was great, great fun.
Um we started that when I walked in, obviously. The football had happened, but we'll talk about that a wee bit later on. Um so, we get in and we're waiting for guests to arrive and what have you.
And eventually they all arrive and we're ready to go.
Now, Ash Point Greater, Greater was in a few sherbets and I wasn't drinking. Steven knitted a couple of beers, but Greater was on the wine and he was in the in the dressing room sitting there with Greg Levine and Kemar Roof.
And honestly God, man, he was just like the Duracell bunny. He just kept on going, kept on going. But, there's going to be a backstage uh documentary that somebody was filming the whole thing for us. Greg was filming the whole thing for us. So, there's going to be a backstage documentary.
You'll be able to get that on the Paint Two Shorts Patreon uh pretty soon. So, uh if you fancy watching that, that's where you'll be able to get it. But, the night was brilliant. Greg Levine, funny as always.
Kemar Roof, he has a lot of insight in his time at Rangers and um his time since leaving Rangers as well. And then we we got to Strachan who is just a diamond there, again. I don't know why.
He's brilliant. He just came up with his world and he goes off on a story and there's not many folk can tell stories like him. He's absolutely fantastic and an absolute gentleman.
However, he does have my credit card. So, I'm going to need There was a part of the show where he was telling everybody that he was doing this as a favor for me and he wasn't getting a wage that night.
So, I wasn't in in pocket and I gave him my credit card and he just put it in his pocket. And no more was said, and we forgot about it. So, I had to phone him later on and tell him, "Gordon, you've got my credit card." So, he says, "I'll post it out to you."
But, I've still not given him my address, so I just canceled the card and got a new one sent out.
Um then we had Chris Sutton, who is the pantomime villain. Absolutely unbelievable. He knew his role. He came out.
They had pyro and everything, man. It was a proper proper [ __ ] high-tech show, man.
>> [laughter] >> They had pyro, and Sutton came out, and he just played the pantomime villain absolutely perfectly. There was I would probably say a majority of non-Celtic fans in the crowd, so they were Sutton was definitely the enemy for them, and they booed him out the place.
It was great fun. Great fun.
Um So, this week we went out on Sunday after the show.
We were out for some eat, as always.
No what they like down at I'm A Mondo.
Me, Sammy, Sammy's dad, Davie, and our mom, Sandra. Um we all went down for some eat on the Sunday, and this time, guess what? I had something different.
That's right.
No steak pie for me on Sunday. Sandra and Davie had the steak pie. Sammy had the seafood [ __ ] mixed grill thing. It was all different sorts of food. There was like prawns, there was bits of sea bass, there was uh uh mussels, and it was a a whole seafood thing. Um she loved that as well, and I had the pasta arrabiata. Um and it was great, as always. Uh so, I was asking them about their their social media.
Um if you've never seen their social media, go on their social media on Instagram. It's @mondocorpbridge, and honestly, their their videos are funniest funniest ever, man. Really, really funny. But, uh if you've not been down to Il Mondo yet, get down there. We've had a few reports for listeners to the show who hadn't been there before, but have been there and have been more than once as well. So, if you mention the show, you'll get 10% off your bill and you'll be given a gold card that entitles you to 10% off your bill every single time you go. So, get yourself down to Il Mondo and tell them Chris sent you.
So, last week was Netflix's first big MMA show.
Um it was headlined by Ronda Rousey versus Gina Carano, a fight which if it had been maybe 10 10 years ago, would have been the biggest selling women's MMA fight of all time, which it probably it's more than likely going to be round about that anyway with the whole Netflix backing and stuff like that.
Um there was other fights on the card.
There was Junior dos Santos uh versus Christ, I can't even remember the big fellow's name, but Junior dos Santos is older than the Forth Road Bridge now and it's a shame because he comes out and you remember how good a fighter he was before and now he's just a shadow of his former self because he's just getting old and unfortunately, in that game, you know, your age definitely catches up with you, but he got knocked out in the first round.
Uh no surprise there, really, to be honest with you. Um then, later on in the card, you had Mike Perry versus Nate Diaz. Now, watching Nate Diaz now depresses the life out of me. It's like watching B.J. Penn when he was coming to the end of his career. I just hope that Nate uh realizes it and realizes it's time to to call it a day because Mike Perry battled the living [ __ ] out of him.
Uh then we had Francis Ngannou fighting some guy. Again, I'm sorry. I'm I'm not familiar with the guy that he was fighting, but Ngannou smashed him.
Again, first round, bang, bang, bang. Big overhand left.
Caught him right behind the ear.
Game over.
And then they went on to tease Jon Jones versus Ngannou. Now, if Netflix manages to make that fight, then the UFC have got a problem on their hands for me because they're obviously going to be paying the two of them a lot of money. It's the fight that everybody wanted to see in the UFC, but Jones decided to fight to fight Stipe instead because I'm going to be honest with you. I think Jones is good to fear about Ngannou, but I don't think Ngannou can match Jon Jones, I think. Jones has got enough on the ground to take Ngannou down and you don't want to make it a standing fight with Francis Ngannou because the guy literally did have the hardest punch in recorded human history. So, you definitely don't want to stand and and bang with him, but it's just it's a money-making scheme. I mean, look, I don't trust any any of these things anymore ever since Jake Paul came into the fold. I think his boxing promotion is without a doubt fixed. I don't think there's any doubt about that. And I saw it I see it as the boxing equivalent of professional wrestling where it's predetermined, but really at the end of the day you're giving the people a show.
I don't know if you guys agree with me or not. And I that's not taking anything away from Jake Paul because if it is like that, it's a masterstroke. The guy has made a fortune, but you know, in that fight against Anthony Joshua, I don't know if there's enough money in the world to make me take that sort of punch.
So, fair play him.
Um staying on MMA, the UFC fight card for International Fight Week was announced and they announced that Conor McGregor is going to be coming back. Um he's going to be facing Max Holloway.
Now, that's a dream fight. I remember the fight back in the day, but they've they've got much higher profile now.
Uh Max Holloway's just he's one of my favorite fighters to watch. He just never stops. Conor McGregor's going to be entertaining as always.
But, really if we're being honest with ourselves here, will it happen?
I don't know because he's pulled out of his last few scheduled fights, but headlining International Fight Week, he's going to be getting paid a hell of a lot of money.
The build-up to it alone is going to be entertaining because on the same card you get Paddy Pimblett versus Benoit Saint-Denis. So, really, I know McGregor versus Holloway is going to be at welterweight right, but Paddy Pimblett and Conor McGregor being on the same press uh what do you call them?
[ __ ] press.
What's it called?
Whatever it is, right? You see when they all sit there and and they all talk all that. Um so, having Paddy Pimblett and Conor McGregor on the same panel is going to be brilliant because Pimblett's going to say something that Paddy's going to snap back at and it's going to build a fight and I would love to see the two fighting.
Purely because I genuinely think Paddy Pimblett would smash Conor McGregor.
Now, absolutely smash him. He's on his feet or well, maybe not on his feet.
Maybe not on his feet because McGregor is his accuracy is incredible. So Maybe taste that Scottish chin. Do they get knocked out? Do they not get knocked out? Maybe find out in that fight, but he needs to get through Ben Waas and he first and McGregor needs to get through Holloway. But if they both lose then in my opinion, if they both lose or if they both win in my opinion, the the logical next fight would be McGregor versus Pimblett.
And the the build-up for that would be Oh, man. It would be so good. It would be so so good.
We've also got my favorite fighter just now, Johnny Walker. He's going to be fighting Brandon Royval who is no joke. So another massive massive test for for Walker.
Um I think he's got it in him. I think the one loss that he had was very very unlucky. He He was killing the boy up and he get caught out of nowhere.
And unfortunately, he get finished. So he came back from that. He took a step up. He fought Brandon Moreno.
And he absolutely battled Brandon Moreno for the full fight. Brandon Moreno who is a three-time UFC champ, I think.
Or two or three-time UFC champ. So to have to be able to go into the UFC off the back of your loss, then take the step up to fight the guy who was ranked third, I think it was at the time.
And that weight division and beat him handily over five rounds was just a phenomenal performance by Johnny Walker.
And it did show that he has got what it takes to go up there with the best of them. So Royval is going to be a a massive test for him. No doubt of it. But I think he's up to the task. And then we've got Gable Steveson who is an Olympic gold in wrestling.
I think.
I might be wrong, but I think he is.
Joined WWE.
What stuff come out about him.
The WWE fans turned on him instantly. He had one match on TV and lost it.
And then just kind of disappeared off the face of the earth. So, he's now involved in MMA.
He is signed to UFC and in his first UFC fight he's going to be on the main card during International Fight Week. Now, he's fighting a guy called Alistair Overeem. Now, that sounds like a woman's name to me.
And going by his history, it wouldn't really surprise you if it was.
So, that I wanted to talk about Robert Whittaker versus Krylov.
That's on the prelims. Now, Gable Steveson, I get it, he might be a bit of a draw. He's an Olympic gold medalist, but UFC that's not what's selling this card.
See, if you want to have Steveson on the main card, you put him on the main card that is not on the main event that doesn't have Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, Paddy Pimblett, Brandon Royval, Robert Whittaker, Krylov, you've got Cody Garbrandt as well.
And is Steveson a big enough name to be on that main card ahead of some of the other names, even on a card with Conor McGregor?
I don't think he is, but what I will say is I think that he could be the next big thing in the heavyweight division in the UFC. So, getting him on the main card and getting him a wee bit more exposure might be what they're doing there, which is fair enough.
But, I don't think he warrants that especially on that curve.
If that makes sense to you.
So, uh last week, I said goodbye to something that's been a constant in my life for the past I think it's maybe 7 years or something like that, um which is The Boys.
The last episode, the finale, did Homelander uh get his comeuppance?
Did Billy Butcher and Hughie save the world?
Did Starlight and Hughie end up together?
Did Deep manage to get have a happy ending?
If any of you's watched the show, you's will know the answers to all of that, but what I will say is it I thought it was a fantastic ending to the show.
A lot of people are saying that they thought that it was a the last season was poor.
I know, I just think the second last episode wasn't great, but the finale was brilliant. It tied it all up perfectly.
Everybody got their ending. Some got endings that you maybe didn't you want them to get. Some got endings that you did want them to get. Uh and it was just uh I loved it and I loved it. I'm going to go back to the start and watch it all again. So, uh if you've never watched it, get on it, but that wasn't my my TV recommendation last week. We'll get to that in a wee bit a wee bit later. So, uh I got the Masters of the Universe tickets went on sale today for they went on pre-sale for the movie releasing in the cinema, and I managed to get the very first ticket for the very first showing in the Showcase Cinema uh on a week in Wednesday coming. Um, so, I thought I'd join.
I've booked my tickets. I'm absolutely buzzing. Me and Kean are going to be there.
Um, I asked him if he wanted to go to the cinema and he said aye, so, I originally only bought one ticket. So, I went back and and I bought a ticket for Kean. So, I'll be able to sit down and watch Masters of the Universe in the cinema.
Exciting. Like a wee bean and all of my boys will be with me as well, watching.
I don't know. It's Can Can I kill him?
Just Can I kill? But, really like the forward tip. Um, so much so that I didn't want to miss the very first showing. So, there's a secret screening of a movie in the showcase this Monday.
Uh, this Monday coming. And just in case it was Masters of the Universe, I bought a ticket for it. So, I'm going to go down and see what movie it is. It might be a good movie. It might be a shite movie. It might be Masters of the Universe, but I'll let you guys know next week, uh, what the film was that I ended up seeing.
>> [laughter] >> So, it should be good fun. Um, right.
So, my movie Oh, there's Boston. Hi, yeah. Hello.
What are you saying, T?
Not much. Back from the gym. I was just telling everybody that the dog's run away with it. Oh, no. I know. That made me really sad. I know. It's your fault, wasn't it?
No, really. It was the guy that let the gate open. It's his fault. Neil, that's true. That's true. I suppose it was his fault, wasn't it?
Sammy's fault, but Uh, I've got to blame [clears throat] >> I'll get the blame. Got to blame somebody, man. You know? [laughter] Hey, get in there, woman, and make me a sandwich. Sandwich? Make me a sandwich, woman.
Uh, so, I My movie recommendation for last week, I should say, is a film that I went to see in the cinema, E.T. Uh, and [clears throat] all the boys back in the day. And I remember at one point in this movie, I laughed that hard that I went dizzy as [ __ ] And genuinely like to the point that I thought I was going to pass out. Um if you've seen Super Troopers, this movie's for the same group of guys who has made Super Troopers and it's called Beerfest.
Uh it's just a ridiculous movie about um a beer drinking competition during Oktoberfest in Germany.
And a group of American or Canadians maybe.
Canadians?
I I think they may be Canadians.
Uh the granddad passes away and they want to eat Oh sorry, the granny passes away and they want to eat scatter her ashes at Oktoberfest.
And they bump into the German team. The German team are obviously the villains in this. And they end up challenged to a beer drinking contest, but it's the it's all about a stolen recipe for their granddad's original beer because the granddad's got a a brewery as well.
And the granddad's played by uh Donald Sutherland actually.
>> [laughter] >> Uh so there's a lot of lot of good actors in it. A lot of really, really, really funny moments. If you've not seen it and you like a stupid comedy, then I 100% recommend Beerfest because like I said, it it literally nearly killed me.
Thank you very much to our sponsors, Mellow Communications, who provide all sorts of telecommunication systems for small businesses, uh sole traders as well. They provide the systems for them and the systems are absolutely top-notch.
Now, Grado recently got some mobile phones through his uh company and he says that the service is amazing. He also says that no matter where he goes, he gets a full 5G signal.
So, you cannot argue with the service. You cannot argue with Indigo. So, get yourself on the indigocomms.co.uk because they are making IT easy easy easy. So, really only I was setting up it was I just finished my my last shift, so I work night shift and then the next night I'm still in kind of in that routine, so I end up setting up really late and I didn't really have anything to watch, so I went on to the uh the Fire Stick and I was looking for something to watch. I went into the dramas and then I went into crime and I was like, "Ah, ah, maybe watch a wee movie." And then I went, "No, I'm going to start a new TV show." So, I went in and I was having a look having a look having a look and I couldn't find anything that really caught my eye and then I remembered I'm going to rewatch 24. Now, back in the day, I came back from New York with my big mate Gravy. Yeah, we went to WrestleMania.
Uh WrestleMania 20, god that was a long time ago now. Uh and on the flight home I caught chicken pox. So, I was laid up for for a wee while.
Really bad it was. My Really bad. Uh so, I was laid up for a wee while and I was on Do you remember play.com? See before Amazon, there was like this website called play.com that you would get all your DVDs and stuff like that thing. Your DVDs, books, CDs.
Everything, any sort of media related thing, video games as well.
>> [snorts] >> Sorry, my nose is actually my hay fever's kicking my head in these days.
Anyway, so um went on a play.com and they were doing each season of 24 for a tenner.
So, you were getting like season one, 24 episodes for a tenner.
Um and I was like I'll give it a bash. So, I bought the first one.
And if you don't know like when you've got chicken pox you've got a fever and all that. So, I sat and watched the full season of 24 in a day. Now, it's You get 24 episodes.
It's done in real time, right? But, it doesn't take any account the adverts.
So, each episode you're getting about 40 minutes.
And it I sat and I watched the full episode the full season in one day.
And then I went on a play and bought the rest of them.
So, like I said, 24 if you're not familiar with it, it's told in real time and it's about uh Jack Bauer who is a agent for CTU which is a counter terrorist unit in America and it's all about uh terrorism and stuff like that and like I said, each season is told in real time, so each season is 24 episodes. Each episode is 1 hour of that day.
So, you get from let's say it starts at midnight. It doesn't It doesn't start at midnight, but let's say it starts at midnight.
Then it would end at midnight the next day.
So, I I'm not doing a great job explaining this here, I don't think, but it's told in real time. Now, um it's set in the CTU offices, which is like the counter-terrorist unit.
It's where all the intelligence is sent to, then they get sent out, and it's all about espionage and terrorism, and it's just really, really good, and every actor that's in it is brilliant, every single one. So, I started watching that again the other night. Now, I loved 24.
I loved it. Now, last season, I I bought all the seasons, I hammered it when I had chicken pox.
But, I've never watched that again since.
So, you sit there and watch the first episode again.
You see Kiefer Sutherland, who plays Jack Bauer, and you've got Elisha Cuthbert, who plays his daughter.
Uh and it's just you can tell straight away that the family is splintered. The daughter's a bit of a renegade. The wife is the the wife the wife All right, you know what I mean? She's She's not like Skyler White. She's not annoying that way.
Um but Jack you find out he's been playing about.
So, Jack's not the the hero that everybody is expecting him to be straight away. He's definitely got his his foibles and stuff like that, so I need to stop saying and stuff like that.
Like um The The action scenes are amazing.
There's twists and turns.
It's just a fantastic show. It really is a fantastic show. If it came out right now, folk would definitely put it up there with the greatest shows of all time.
And I think a lot of folk just missed it because of the the format of the show and thinking what it was, but it was at the time it was amazing and like I said, I loved it. I loved it that much that when I got my pub, I called it 24 because it was uh 24 St. John Street. Um I called it 24.
I had Bho 24 on the back of my Celtic top.
That's how much I loved that show.
Right? I was I loved it. I was nuts for it. It was it consumed me at a point. I never left the house until I'd finished all the seasons. So, I think when I got the first I think it was up to season 4 or something like that when I bought the the first few but I remember uh being so addicted once I'd finished season 4 and then season 5 or whatever was starting on Sky at the time. And then when I got that finished, I would buy the DVDs but they sat there and like I said, I never ever watched it again.
I never watched it again but it had a massive impact on my life at the time. I absolutely loved it. And I'm going to watch it all again and it's definitely my TV recommendation this week. If you've never seen it, get it watched. If you like like political action-packed, like say it's espionage, millions of twists and turns, face turns, heel turns, you name it.
It's got it all and get get yourself on it, know, cuz it's a right good. Right good.
Um what else have I done?
Uh so that on Saturday there like I said, it was the the live team the live show for about two shots.
However, before it, there was a wee bit of business to attend to with the football. So Ah, oh man.
It was so good. It was so good.
We even had the the drama at the start. You have Hearts getting the first goal. But I don't really see why the [ __ ] Shankland standing on his own in the penalty box at a corner.
The guy is probably the deadliest striker in Scotland.
He was out for 3 months in a year and he only missed the top goal scorer by one.
So if he'd have been in there that whole time, he would have I'll be honest with you, Hearts would probably have won the league.
So you've got to wonder why nobody's picking him up at the corner, but it did just set up the drama. So Celtic go down the park pretty quickly, equalize. We get into halftime, one each. Now as the game goes on, I'm just thinking this isn't going to happen, man.
This isn't going to happen, but then there's that that wee voice in the back of your head that just says it's Celtic. It's going to happen.
So we get the second goal.
It's chopped off. A wee bit more drama.
VAR check it.
Onside goal. Celtic are 2-1 up.
But Hearts only need one goal.
They only need one goal and they could still be champions. And we're into the 97th minute or something like that. Hearts were wasting that much time that they added on 8 minutes to the game.
Uh Hearts got a free kick not far outside Celtic's box.
Put it in, it gets cleared to the edge of the box.
Hearts player tries to shoot.
Hits it off a Celtic player, Callum McGregor plays in Callum Morrison, and he's got the length of the park, no goalkeeper. The goalkeeper's up for the free kick.
He's got the length of the park to run in here.
And he just puts it in the net, and then bad women choose.
Celtic have won the league. The game gets uh ended.
The referee ends the game.
Fans are on the pitch. That was It must have been a scary experience for the Hearts players, I'll I'll say. And I've got to be honest with you as well.
As much as I I dislike Hearts, see for the effort that they put in this season and how close they got to it, I did feel a wee bit sorry for them, but it didn't it take away from my enjoyment and my celebration.
And the fact that I knew that I was going on the air stage to share share a stage with Chris Sutton and Gordon Strachan, two Celtic legends that night. And Gray and Steven, so that I could rub it in a wee bit.
Well, listen, I hope you guys have enjoyed this episode. Thanks very much for watching again. I hope to see you guys again on the next one. And all the best. Remember, like, share, subscribe, comment.
Oh, yeah, fire.
