True freedom is not about escaping to a different location or reducing external pressures, but about building personal stability, financial security, and self-reliance; people often mistake the absence of responsibilities for freedom, but genuine freedom requires having the resources, discipline, and purpose to make meaningful choices regardless of one's circumstances.

You’re Not Free — Here’s WhyAdded:
[snorts] [snorts] >> Good morning. Good morning. Sawadee krap.
Sawadee krap. Sawadee Sub sub sub krap.
How's everybody doing out there?
As you can see I'm in a different location today.
I'm at the Motion Cafe.
Motion coffee, rather.
And uh yeah, not at the not at Pacamara, not at Starbucks, not anywhere else. I just decided to come here. It's fairly close to my house.
And uh you know, I'm always going to different coffee shops and I get bored with the same ones.
I'm bored with Pacamara. I'm bored with the place in the back of Kwang Tong Special.
And that one doesn't open until 10:00.
So, it's not good for streams, but yeah, I'm bored. So, that's why I'm in a different place.
They got all kinds of things going on here.
But, as you can see, we're right This is right next to I'll show you right next to This is Rama IV Road to the right of me.
It's very busy street especially right now. This is rush hour.
This place heads to the It heads to everywhere, but it also heads to There's a big hospital up ahead.
So, it goes to that and you know, I mean this is a This is like Lat Phrao. They run parallel pretty much.
And uh easy to get to. So, anyway.
I only see one person in here besides me. So, I don't know. This place is fairly new.
Yes, good morning everybody. Sawadee krap Sawadee krap.
A lot of people walking by, a lot of people working here next door, which is Coca-Cola.
It's a huge plant.
I think it's their I guess it's their office for for Bangkok.
But, in the back of the the plant, it's massive.
So, let me think here. What else is around?
Behind me there is a an old photo shop.
Behind me there's a photo shop where they have all kinds of old cameras. I mean, Leicas and Rolleis and Nikon cameras. They got everything.
So, it's a cool little you know, I didn't like to walk in down the street. There's a couple of dead areas, but on this side of the road it's pretty nice.
Go up ahead. It's a F F FBT. Haven't been to a long time.
Football Thai. Huge place.
The university is up ahead on the left.
Ramkhamhaeng University.
So, that's that's where we are. That's what's going on here.
We're in a different place today.
>> [snorts] >> Well, welcome to Central Florida.
You do know I'm from Florida.
I was born in Florida.
So, today we're going to be talking about why we're not really free.
I'm free.
So, I don't know what the uh Let me see something.
Right now, back up to 32.20.
So, that's good. There's a little bit of an echo here.
We're right about We're right about 32.20 right now.
Notice anybody else hear an echo? Hello.
Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello.
There is no second floor here. It's This is a little bit smaller, a little more intimate than I like.
And it's a little plain. You know, this place is I already ranked it on my my uh kitchen kitchen.
Sorry. Not going to happen.
This place is number 42 on my list of 108.
So, it's a The food is good. The the coffee's good. Everything's good.
It's the acoustics like Well, they don't like them. So, let me do something here.
Let's see.
I don't know if that's better or worse, but here you go.
Jesus Christ. There's always a problem with the acoustics.
Buy the microphone. It's working great.
That's different.
Microphone's been working great for 6 months, whatever.
Now, there's a problem.
But, I took the mic out. Now, it's the on-board mic of the phone.
So, that's what you get.
A lot of a lot of new people here today.
Anyway.
Let me look at my notes here.
Everybody wants their freedom.
Everybody loves the idea of freedom, but you know, they talk about it like it's a destination, somewhere you go.
You pack your bags. You land on You get on a plane.
You land somewhere new and then suddenly it's there, your freedom.
You hear it all the time.
I just want to be free.
I got to get get out of this system.
You can I said I want to live life on my terms and for the most part I am.
But not always.
Another person.
But everybody goes after this.
And some people think about Thailand and they think ah this is the place where it's going to happen.
Because there is a lower cost of living, there's less pressure, there's more flexibility.
You know, you get everything that you supposedly want.
For most people they can wake up when they want unless you're working.
You can go where you want. A lot of people don't have a boss, they don't have a schedule.
Like me.
What are you talking about? I don't have wireless.
I don't understand.
Wireless what? You mean Wi-Fi?
I got 5G.
So there is no service.
I don't have the internet but but I have 5G.
Maybe that's the problem.
Well hang on one sec.
Let me ask this lady.
All right, let's see what we got here.
guest guest I got to look.
No.
>> [clears throat] >> Password password at I net.
Motion House?
Try me now.
No, it's capital capital.
I see Motion House.
No.
staff Motion House staff?
Motion House staff?
No, Motion House staff.
I need money Okay.
phone money MTH staff Just that's okay. It's okay? Yeah.
It's okay.
money No, it's not working for some reason it's not.
Sorry guys.
It's not working.
I don't Oh Jesus Christ.
Hang on a sec.
Is this the same thing as something Oh, Motion House guest.
Okay, that's connected with Wi-Fi.
Okay, that's connected with Wi-Fi.
So Let's see again.
I I understand that Mr. Oh, I don't need you to tell me that but thank you.
This is the best it's going to get, okay? You got Wi-Fi on the phone.
I got 5G on my computer and that's as good as it's going to get it.
It ain't the microphone.
It's got to be the the connection.
I don't know.
Hopefully it's better.
Which you guys should let me know if it is.
Please.
Please let me know if the sound is better.
Yeah, listen.
You know, I don't know what to tell you.
Quite frankly, you know I have the microphone.
I have the mic.
Which I have turned this off.
This one doesn't matter.
I've got the onboard mic.
So that's all I can do.
There's nothing wrong with the microphone on my phone.
So I don't know what to tell you. So that's all I'm going to say. Let's proceed.
It's funny how like everybody complains about it but then now when I ask hey, does it sound better? Nobody tells me. I got one guy saying it's really not that bad. So I don't know what to tell you.
All right?
Nobody comes here and sits down apparently.
They all come here and then they leave.
Anyway The good thing about Thailand is if you're here generally you could do things like wake up when you want, get around however you want. You have a lot of options.
You can eat what you want, you can go where you want. You don't have to have a schedule, you can have a loose schedule, you can do whatever you want.
Well, I don't know what to tell you.
I really don't know what to tell you.
There are no carpets in here. There's no carpets usually in Thailand. They almost never use carpets, only in certain places do they do that. But there's no carpets here. There's no carpets at Wat Arun. There's no carpets at my house.
There's never any carpets. So I don't know what to tell you.
All right?
Please, get over it.
If it's that bad, well then I'll just cut the stream short and I won't stream.
I don't know what to tell you.
You know, I get the microphones, people complain.
The sound, you know, is on This is on board. This is not a microphone that I was using before.
So the sound should be fine. If it's not, c'est la vie.
It is what it is. Exactly.
And you know, the thing is is when I go back and listen to it, I put my headphones on and there is no problem.
Or maybe it's a little bit muffled at times, but it's not terrible. It's not like, "Oh my god, I can't even hear."
You can hear everything.
So I don't know what to tell you, you know? I mean, I just get sick of hearing this [ __ ] Maybe it's my computer. Maybe it's my phone. I don't know. But I don't think so.
Anyway, let's let's get on with this here.
So when you're like sitting in a coffee shop or you're overlooking a river or you're walking down the street and you got no place you have to be, and you think, "Oh, I've got it all figured out." But that feeling is not really the same as being free.
It's just the absence of pressure.
And I still remember that, that absence of pressure when I first got here.
Good morning.
Good morning. Good morning.
I think my eyes hurt, man.
I remember when I came here.
And you know, it was just 32, 33 years ago I was here.
Actually, it was 30 It was about 31 and a half when I When I first moved here and I went, "I'm here. I live here now."
And I remember thinking to myself, "I don't have anybody to answer to.
Nobody.
I don't have to answer to anybody. I just have to pay my rent, pay the electric bill, pay the water bill, >> [snorts] >> feed myself, you know, eat, sleep, [ __ ] shave.
If I wanted to go out, I could go out.
If I wanted to stay out all night, I could stay out all night. [ __ ] So it was nice.
But that doesn't necessarily mean you're free.
That means you don't have any responsibilities. And there's a difference between not having any responsibilities and being completely free.
And you know, the absence of pressure does not mean that you're free.
Because pressure comes and goes.
You know?
You might be paying your rent, guess what? The rent goes up and you go, "Oh, I don't know if I can afford this."
The electric bill goes up. Listen, even now at my house, sometimes my electric bill is 3,500 baht. We got two two air conditioners.
Sometimes they're running all the time.
Sometimes it's 3,500 baht, sometimes it's 7,500 baht.
Anytime it's over 5,000 baht, I'm I'm irritated.
Because that's an additional pressure.
Now I got to come up with that extra I got to pay an extra 2,500 baht when normally I'm like, I don't have to pay that.
I don't want to pay that. I don't want to pay more than I need. Think about it.
150 155 dollars for the electric bill here?
There's a lot of people here that pay 30 baht, 20 baht.
But that isn't us.
>> [snorts] >> So you know, the cost can go up.
Situations can change. You know, if the If the lady who owns our house now said, "Hey, I'm selling the house." She's not going to.
But if she did say, "I'm selling the house." Well, the situation changed. Now we have to go and stay somewhere else.
Now we could go down the street and buy a house down the street. There's a house that we like down the street.
But I don't know the I don't really want to buy a house.
Right? So your situation can change.
And that didn't That's not real freedom.
Those people are not really all that free.
It's just changing the environment, changing your situation, changing your financial situation.
So this is kind of what I want to talk about today, what it really is, what it isn't, and why so many people think they have it and they don't really have any kind of freedom.
Because most of what you get when you come to Thailand in the beginning is some kind of an illusion.
You think everything's easier. The living here, you're not working full-time, you're not busting your ass going to the job. I think about it and I go, "Man, I don't have time now."
If I had to work a job, just say 40 or 50 hours a week, I wouldn't know what to do. I'd be like freaking out because I wouldn't know how to handle it.
And I think about when I used to work long hours.
How did I cope?
How did I get my laundry done?
How did I have time to do things?
Well, now I have all the time that I want and I still don't really have enough time.
That's one thing, you know, time is is precious.
And when you come here, usually your expenses will drop.
You'll have more time.
And that's what leads you to think, "Finally, I'm free."
When really, that's not what the truth is.
A lot of people come here.
So in 6 months, at least once a month, walk after you shower.
Well, I mean, even that it's different than not working.
You know, it's funny because when I used to work, I I would have to be up 5:30, 6:00.
And usually I would start work 8:00, 30.
Now, I don't have to work.
I don't have to go anywhere. I don't have to go to any job. I don't have to do anything like that.
And I'm up at 4:30 or 5:00 every morning. I don't know why.
I just get up.
You know, maybe it's the whole aging and you know, your cycle changes and all that. But nevertheless, I'm up by 5:00 every single morning.
There's I mean, no exceptions. I'm up at 5:00. By 5:30, I'm having a By 5:36, I'm having a coffee.
At 6:00, I'm sitting there with my wife and we're we're drinking coffee or whatever. We're talking about what what's going on.
And I don't have to be up. If I wanted, I could be sleeping in, snoring. I can't do it. I don't know why.
So you know, I mean, I have the freedom to sleep in. I I just don't.
And I know a lot of people that are older than they're the same way.
So if you think about it like, you know, you think you're free, but really what are you free from?
You might be free from a boss or paying, you know, 3,000, 4,000 dollars a month for rent.
Maybe, >> [clears throat] >> you know, one thing is that in There was a couple times where I had to drive maybe an hour, 2 2 hours a day to get to work. Good morning, champ.
So that was something, you know, I I mean, listen, when you got to do that, you're beholden to taking that drive every day.
You got to go an hour and a half, 2 hours every day to get to work. And it's an hour and a half, 2 hours to get home.
Then you got a 10-hour day. You're talking about a 14, hour day.
That's not free.
So, yeah, you get free from that here.
You don't generally have to do that.
But, let me tell you something.
I don't go that many places anymore. Not because I don't really want to go, because I don't want to have to brave the traffic. I don't want to have to take me four different legs in order to get somewhere. I don't want to have to go motorcycle over to the BTS BTS to the MRT MRT to the BTS again, and then go somewhere else, and then walk to where I'm I don't want to have to do that.
So, then I think, okay, I'll take a taxi. Well, sometimes you want to take a taxi and it might take me you know, if it's an hour-long drive or an hour-long in public transportation, it might take an extra half an hour.
You don't take a motorcycle, it's going to take you longer.
So, I mean, that's I mean, I could see I could see John or I could see a couple people here and there.
Generally, that's a [laughter] 45-minute trip. 30 to 45 minutes.
You know, it might not sound like that much, but when you're like you wake up and you go, all right, what do I got to do? Oh, I don't have to do anything. Well, let me think what I got what I really have to what I want to do.
It was not sitting traffic for 45 minutes or half that time.
Jim, how's it going?
So, you know, the other thing is that the illusion kind of breaks down when you start talking about money, finances.
And most people are not really financially free.
If you've got a lot of debt, if you were scraping by, you're not financially free.
You're kind of especially if you live here, you might be coasting.
Yeah.
I mean, up until a few years ago, I didn't have much money.
Didn't have much money at all.
But, I just chopped it out, you know, you you got to you got to get through it. There were times that I There were times maybe 30 years ago when money was low and I was like, man, this sucks.
And then somehow I got through it. So, I wasn't free. I was [snorts] kind of coasting and there's there is a difference.
And if you've got financial freedom, it means that you've got enough income and assets to support your yourself long term.
I know someone getting picked up and they were trying to show them to meet them somewhere.
It's 15 minutes by BTS. He took a taxi.
Two hours later, he wasn't there.
Listen, that's how it is sometimes.
Sometimes you'll take a taxi and it's not two hours later. Sometimes it's just 15 minutes.
It really depends. And you know, I To me, [snorts] I know my area, I know the system, I know things work now.
I mean, to say I have it wired is pretty dead on.
I know, hey, if you're traveling if you're traveling 5:30 to 5:00 to maybe 6:00, you might miss some of the rush hour traffic. [snorts] 6:00 Get out at 5:45, 6:00, there's going to be some rush hour.
5:00, no, not so much.
You want to take a taxi at 4:00 in the morning, there there's no traffic out, but it's not that bad.
But, once you hit about 6:00, 7:00, um there's going to be traffic all the way till 10:00, 10:30.
So, I don't go out most of the time. If I go anywhere, I take a motorcycle.
Which, you know, that has problems in itself. Going, okay, today's Founder's Day with the entire city out to celebrate.
Okay, all right.
The Founder of the city parades and dancing and a lot of pride.
Uh sounds like fun.
Sounds like something I'd want to run out and go to.
Not really.
You know, good for them. I'm glad they're proud.
You know, it's always nice when the community's proud of itself.
But, just going out with old women and dancing, I I can pass on that.
I'll pass on that.
Anyway, if you're worried about how you're going to pay your bills next month, well, you don't have financial freedom.
Uh and what you really want is to build.
You don't want to just survive. You don't want to just be getting by.
And that's the thing. I saw something today about you know, the whole $1,000 a month argument.
Okay, people have this argument for as long as I've been here.
Now, when I first came here, 1,000 bucks went a long way.
Especially when I was here and it was, you know, 56 to the dollar.
Yeah, okay, well, then you get by very easily. It's no problem. But, even back then, you know, you still had a much money.
But, now, 1,000 bucks, listen, I'm not going to say that you can't get by.
But, I saw a guy, he goes, oh, I spend I spend less than less than $500 a month.
He's like, I spend 250 on food.
We spend a little money on electric and, you know, water and stuff like that. He goes, and, you know, we own the house, my wife has the house. We own the house.
And those are my bills. And I'm like, wait a minute, you're not accounting for health care, dental care, eye care, clothing, glasses, emergencies, travel.
So, if you're not living off of $500 a month, if you are, you're you are surviving. That's all you're doing.
Heavy traffic here is when school lets out. Well, that's how it is here in the Uh all the vans stopping the road because of the schools and stuff.
Listen, you go down the street and uh you know, there's kids everywhere walking around and there's, you know, they're crossing the road and there's buses and it's just a I try to avoid that and I know where the schools are.
So, I know how to get home without going through that area.
Now, if you don't have an alternative route or routes, well, then it gets really difficult.
Anyway, the thing is is that if you're There's a difference between simply existing here and then building a life here.
If you don't have any glasses to drink water out of, if you're drinking only out of a a jelly jar or something like that, you're not really living here. You're not really building a life here.
If you've got glasses and silverware and dishes and furniture and you know, things on the wall and things like that, well, then you're building a life, whether it be with a Thai woman, whether it be maybe you're female, maybe with a Thai man, whatever it is, uh but, that's that's a There's a big difference between that. And to me, if you haven't built a life here, well, then I mean, you know, if you're here and you've got a There was There was a time when I would say, all I need is a laptop, my camera, and some clothes.
You know, that's really it. You know, toothpaste, toothbrush, that kind of thing.
That's all I needed. I didn't need anything else.
And it it happened.
That worked 30-something years ago.
Now, it won't work for me.
There's no way.
You know, so, you got to have enough income and you got to have enough assets so that if something happens, you know, let's say you break your hand, and you go in and they go, that's going to be like 75,000 with the surgery.
You go, okay, well, I can take that.
You don't have to worry about it.
Three-hour parade and marching And it's also district parades of fun, like the Rose Parade and all of them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Jim, they have that in Surat Thani, also, in the city.
They have that. I don't know I don't remember what month it is, but they have that. We went there and the only thing we did was, hey, I'm really hungry, let's eat something here. And then we left.
We went back to our hotel. We didn't really stay. We went by the floats and stuff like this just a couple years ago and I I filmed some of it and then it started raining.
We were on our way back to the hotel.
But yeah, I mean, you know, it's like Songkran.
What do you do for Songkran, Jim? You go out play in the water?
I mean, you know, to me, I don't need much now.
When you live with a woman and kids or a young man, it's a bit of a different story.
But the freedom comes from having your [ __ ] together and having what you need so that if you need Let's say you need to cut a piece of meat, you don't go, "How am I going to do this? I mean, I have to get my buck knife out. I don't have any knives.
How am I supposed to eat this?"
You know.
So, with your drifting, you're basically living day-to-day, month-to-month.
And you may have a lower cost, but there's no real growth in your life.
No long-term plan. And you know, I mean, I I'll say this.
Before I got married, I wasn't I wasn't growing. I wasn't progressing.
I had a little place. Well, I had a big place. I had a It was a two-bedroom apartment with a big kitchen. It was a big place, a huge balcony. I had that, but you know, everything was furnished.
Everything was provided for me.
The silverware, the dishes, the all the furniture, everything was provided for.
I had a maid come twice a week.
You know.
But the place was expensive. It was like 50,000 with the rent and the electric and the the water and the second phone cuz I had to have a second phone because of it was a modem at that time.
But I wasn't I wasn't in a position where I was like, "I'm going to buy all this stuff and I'm going to get my act together." I didn't do that. Once I met my wife, she was already starting. She was getting a lot younger.
She's already starting to build her life.
So, once we got together, that was it.
You know, sometimes it just it just works out that way. When you you start to have kids, you know, they get Oh, you need a a crib or you need you know, a bed for the kid and whatever it is, right? They got their own room.
They need a bed.
So, you start getting your act together and if you're here and you're single and you're not smart about things, well, the drift, the whole floating around thing happens very easily.
And you know, things are cheaper, you got some money.
You know, you could end up if you're just on the bar stool all the time and you're just getting by. And that's the thing. And that's what I see in life uh That's the thing I see in in Pattaya quite often.
I see people sitting on the bar stool where every day they you know, they got their routine and they end up going to the bar or they go to a different bar or whatever. And you know, to me, that's I don't want to I don't want to say that you're not allowed to go out and have a good time.
You are. Of course you are.
But the lifestyle that you're living on a bar stool, that's not probably the the best lifestyle for your liver.
Never even left the house for some kind of thing. They got to have things to provide for their youngsters and respect for Yeah, I mean, I see I take all that for granted.
Honestly, I do. Because I've already been through it.
Um you know, I mean, my kids when they were younger, they used to hang out with the kids in the neighborhood here and down in the south.
And I would come out for, you know, half an hour or something and play around with them, do whatever.
Now, I don't do that because they've got different things and they when as they get older, they don't want to be around you.
Now, down in the south, yeah, I mean, you know, some of the kids I don't know. We got a We got a different life now.
So, you know, it's But the respect for the elders, that's always there and that's always nice. And I still remember there's a guy now he was a world champion fighter.
And I went to go see my friend in Phuket Town.
And we started eating dinner. The guy was there. The the fighter was there.
I'm not going to name his name or anything, but he was there.
And we got the food on the table and he starts serving.
And I'm like looking at him like, "Oh, you don't have to serve me." And he goes, "No, no, no, no, you know."
He wanted to just show me respect. That's all. It wasn't anything, you know, like it was just a week like you say, a respect for.
And I appreciated that. And now, it's been probably 20 years since I was there with him.
He's still fighting.
You know, he's not the same level, you know.
>> [clears throat] >> Well, I mean, you know, listen.
If you want If you want a bar, you'll find one.
There's bars everywhere.
You think you're not going to find any bars in Chiang Mai or you know, Chiang Yai or other places? I mean, they're everywhere. They're all over. So, that's that's To me though, I mean, you know, going out with a buddy, you know, like listen, me and Jono and Billy when Billy is here, we go out sometimes.
But we generally don't go to bars.
Now, one time we went to a restaurant and they had a bar there. We started drinking. We got hammered.
Because the booze was really good. But next thing you know, we're you know, we're like six sheets to the wind.
Absolutely trashed. But we don't do that that often. You know, I mean, the last time I've been in a bar was in Pattaya.
Probably like 3 years ago.
And it was uncomfortable.
Cuz I'm not looking for anything.
Couple of the other guys weren't looking for anything.
So, what are you going to do?
Drink? Well, I didn't want to drink.
I was drinking a soda and like Red Bull.
And I don't like to drink Red Bull.
And I don't particularly like to drink soda.
What are you going to do? Oh, can I have a water, please?
No. I don't want to I don't know. That's just for me.
But the point is is that that that holds a lot of people back.
That keeps them from attaining any sense of freedom because they're pissing their money away.
And you know, you got to think about a few things. If you're thinking about this and if he says no problem, but for the people who cry about having problems with their visa, "Oh my god, it's so difficult. I can't do it. I don't know what the problem is. I can't believe they're changing it again and they're doing this and doing that."
You know what? People who got their [ __ ] together don't have any problems with the visas.
They don't.
They don't have any problems.
You need to have a bank balance a a certain amount in the bank.
People who got their [ __ ] together don't have a problem having that amount.
Now, government policies can they come and go and change.
Most of the time, you're fine.
Listen, right now it's 800,000 for a retirement visa. They're probably going to raise it to a million or 1.2.
But if you have a uh if you have your visa now, your extension, it's going to stay the same amount. If you let it lapse, then you're going to have to show the new amount.
You know. So, and the amount of money you have is like one month you're like, "Okay, well, all I got to do is rent my house out and I'll have 50,000 baht a month." And then the guy moves out and you can't find anybody to rent your place and now you're low on money.
That's not the way to live either.
That's not free. That's dependent on situations.
I mean, that's just the way it is. Just call a spade a spade.
You got to have You got to have a strong sense of stability and control in your life and options. You got to have some options.
And without those, you're just trying to manage your risk so that you feel free.
>> This place has been complaining since I got here.
This place is great.
Now, I don't know what this show is.
>> [clears throat] >> [ __ ] This goes to the back there.
I don't know what's upstairs.
Except there are no stairs.
You got to think about do you like the way that your life is set up when you're coming over here? How is your life going to be once you get in your new life?
Is it going to be like when you were back home?
You have a job, you have a schedule, you have responsibilities. How many responsibilities do you have? How many do you want? How many can you handle?
There's all these things to think about.
Nobody ever thinks about From last night, I've heard three ambulances.
Which is more than usual.
Say three more than usual.
You want to have a little direction when you live your little momentum, a little purpose. You got to have these things.
What is your purpose when you wake up in the morning?
Oh, today I don't have anything to do. I don't have to do anything. Now, I get that once in a while.
Where I just go, I don't have to do anything. If I want I can sit on my ass all day.
Most of the time I got things to do.
So, I have responsibilities.
And if you don't have anything to do, then you got to find something. You better make something for yourself because then there's no progress. You're just you're spinning your wheels. I don't only drink coffee every day. I drink coffee and I do other things.
You know.
It just happens that when I'm streaming I'm drinking coffee. To be honest, I'm kind of sick of coffee.
Because I drank so much of it.
Over the years.
And I got to get my I'm going to get my teeth whitened. It's something simply because I'm drinking too I'm drinking coffee and it's yellowing my teeth.
And you free free- freedom if you have true freedom and you have direction. If you If you don't have direction, then you're just basically like I said, spinning your wheels, you're stagnant.
And the thing is when people come over here they're saying now I have plenty of time. I have plenty of time for me to do stuff.
But you headed over to the Hawaiian National Seminary.
I'm not even going to go there.
Most people think that they have all this time and you know, they have to think about what are you going to do with that time?
Because just having time doesn't mean you're free.
If I was down by the beach, I'd be like, all right, I'm going to go boogie board this morning. And then I'd be like, okay, that's my my routine. Every morning I go boogie boarding for an hour.
Then I'm going to go and have a coffee, have some breakfast.
That's what I would do.
And then I build a bath.
Some people they they they learn from their environment, they build upon what they have and they continue to improve their life until they're older.
You know.
And I use this guy again. I don't know about Jim, but uh Jonathan.
You know, I go to his place I've been to his place many times. And I go up to his place.
He's always got a He's always you know, it's not a huge place, but it's always fixed up nice.
He's built a place for him to go. It's peaceful. And he has things on the wall. You know, it's it's comfortable.
And that to me, he's a lot freer than most people that that live here.
And some people all they do all they do is they consume stuff. They just They don't have a purpose. The biggest word is drift.
They're just getting by.
They're not really They're not really doing anything.
They're Because that's one thing that if you come over here, especially if you're retired, you have all the time in the world.
So, you know, I used to laugh at him because he would be like, I I'd call him up. I'd go, "What are you doing?" "Oh, cleaning this, I'm cleaning that." He's always cleaning.
And now I understand it.
Cuz I got a little more time.
You got more time. You you know, there's no reason for you to leave stuff out.
You got to pick it up, put it away, do this, do that. Cuz you have plenty of time.
You know.
So, the other thing is your emotions.
Are you emotionally free? Are you uh dependent upon relationship?
Are you kind of the person Are you one of these people one of these guys who's afraid of being alone?
I don't get that.
Are you chasing the comfort that you had back home?
Apparently they had a I had to become part of that.
Set up a schedule for the family, deal with the elders.
Do the whole Hawaiian saying I was old all the way along and respected the elders and one day they come over and say Well, you are old, Jim. I hate to tell you this, but you're old, too.
Have have a purpose for the past four years. Same as you are now.
Four-year-old children is honest and straightforward.
I will say this.
When I'm in the South, I get the best treatment. I get excellent treatment.
You know, I mean I I work for nothing.
You know, my wife might not always cook for me when she's home.
I might have to fend for myself or I want to fend for myself because I want to eat what I want to eat.
Now, listen, I you know, the thing is like I don't know, a week ago.
I went to Macro because we went to Macro in Suratthani.
We didn't go inside.
And I don't usually go there.
Cuz I don't like it. It's very impersonal. It's It's big. But the Macro warehouse was not that big.
And I didn't like it. And I hadn't been there in years. So, I just thought, you know what? I need to go in there and see do they have the big pieces of salmon that that they had in the South?
What kind of stuff do they have? I need to get some tuna. I want to get some scallops. There's some things I want to get that maybe they don't have at the grocery.
So, I went in and I was like, oh my god, they expanded the place. It's absolutely massive.
I mean, it'll take you 15 minutes to walk from the front to the back.
And then outside they get pallets and pallets and pallets of stuff that they got to bring in.
I mean you know, they got the stuff that's under It's under a tarp.
Because there's so much stuff they can't bring it in faster.
So, I went in there.
Sure enough they had the salmon, they had the tuna. I got everything I needed.
They have, you know, of course they have things like, you know, TVs and things like that.
But I wanted some scallops yesterday.
I haven't bought scallops in years because in the fresh market, they're too expensive.
I go in there, I get almost a kilo of scallops for like 10 bucks.
And I'm like can't beat this.
All my life I had projects and goals that I wanted to achieve and I had the time and I didn't have the money. When I had the money, I didn't have the time.
Yeah, well, that's kind of that's kind of me now.
It used to be I didn't have the time and I didn't have the money.
Then it was I got plenty of time, but I don't have plenty of money. I don't have plenty of money now, but I'm okay. We're We're all right.
We're comfortable.
You know, I feel fortunate. That's what I'll say.
I feel very fortunate.
But, you know, that's another thing.
When guys get involved with women here, it's just like guys off themselves in patio or wherever it is because their whole life is attached to one person. You know, I know what it's like. I mean, listen, I've been married for like 30 years.
29 years.
If my wife wasn't around, it would suck.
But you know what? Sometimes she's not around.
Okay.
You know, I'm still alive. I'm still kicking. My kids are alive. They're kicking.
It's just you know, you you get used to it. You adjust. You do what you got to do. But you don't want to attach yourself to somebody to where if they're not here, you do a header off the off the you know, 50th floor.
That's not what you want to do.
Sometimes things fall apart.
So, you don't want to be dependent.
That's another thing.
Being dependent.
You know, one of the biggest strengths that Thailand has is that it can be very comfortable for a reasonable price. But comfort always has danger.
Think about it. When you've got a fighter and he's been hungry all his life and then all of a sudden he wins the championship and he fights a couple times and now he's worth $20 million.
I think it was Conor McGregor [snorts] or somebody else who said it.
It's pretty tough to wake up and go run and train hard when you're sleeping in satin sheets.
Cuz you don't have to. You made it.
Comfort is what what removes the urgency and that extreme need to succeed.
So, when you come here and you think, "Oh my god, I'm living for a quarter of what I lived in the United States and I'm living better."
All of a sudden you're like, "Hey, what is it I don't want to say fat and happy, but fat and happy becomes easy to becomes easy to be like that.
Cuz when you're back home, you're you're thinking about I got to I'm not going to get the raise, what's going to happen?
How can I improve myself in this job to where I can make more money? How am I going to move forward? When you come here and you're like, "Oh, I've got I've got a nice place, married, got everything I need."
And I mean it It happens to me.
You know, there's times when I'm like, "What do What do I really want to do?" I have to think about it sometimes.
When it comes down to traveling, that's a big one.
For me it's massive.
Because I've been a lot of places and I think, "Where do I want to go now?
What do I have to do?
Where should I go?"
And you know, I could tell you I don't like being around a bunch of tourists.
So, when you get over here and you know, you think about it, you're no longer scraping by. Then all of a sudden you just decide to become complacent.
And you get your complacent, you don't keep growing.
No.
I haven't.
Freedom is not just less rules and less pressure.
Um It's more responsibility.
If you don't have a boss and you work from home, it's pretty easy to wake up and just go, "Eh, you know, I'll start in 10 minutes."
And then you're like, "Ah, let me get my coffee." And then you're like, "Ah, I'll start in another half an hour."
It's easy to put things off.
You got to stick with the system. It's like if you're working at home, you got to be like, "Okay, I'm going to work from 9:00 to 4:00 every day and I don't want to get involved to take me away."
So, that that is a system that you set up. That's your responsibility.
That's the pressure that you have. So, you There's always pressure.
It's just what kind of pressure you really want to deal with.
And some people I mean, listen, if they Jim just said oh, he built built up his house or something like that.
Well, guess what? If he started building his house and then he just went, "Nah, I don't like doing it anymore.
I don't want to do it. I don't have to do it."
It's never going to get done.
You know.
I'm looking at the Macs now, but I don't understand some of the things that they're doing.
Um because they have the they have the What is it? The What's it called? What's the name of that thing?
Let me see here.
Oh, the new uh They have the MacBook new uh They have the MacBook Air.
They have the MacBook Pro. But I don't understand things like how are you supposed to have external memory?
Are you supposed to use uh Are you supposed to use You're supposed to use a USB not USB USB-C to USB-C to connect up your external hard drive? What are you supposed to do? How fast is it? I don't know all these things. So, I have to take a look at it.
I am starting to look a little bit, but I just haven't really figured everything out that I need to figure out.
Yeah, but even the even the MacBook Air is pretty inexpensive.
All right. So, let's just keep it on there.
So, if you're free truly free, you've got financial stability.
You've got money to take care of things.
You control your time. Your time does not control you.
That's something I I I don't know if I'm going to do a video or if I was going to do a live stream. But the thing with Thailand is you make Thailand work for you. You don't work for Thailand.
Cuz if you're working for Thailand, you're not getting the most out of it.
You're You're not You got You're not getting the most out of what you can get while you're here.
You got to be able to make choices and not be scared to screw up that you're going to lose everything. You're not going to be able to make the bills next month or whatever if it your options go lost.
You got to have some You got to have Stability is the big one.
It's not just living cheap or not not working all that much. I only work 4 hours a week.
Would you Would you work 4 hours a week and you're making $2,000 a week? That's not really That's not really worth I mean, it is. You make a little bit of money, but like it's not enough to cover your nut.
So, you know, the location just because you're here doesn't mean that you've got freedom.
That's the harsh reality and the truth.
And the truth is that some people think that when they move here, it's going to fix their life.
I know a little bit about the new cheap MacBook other than it's cheap and cuts corner. I wouldn't get one. I would go with an Air at minimum. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
The cheapest is never the best.
>> So many people today. Wow.
Really funny. It's so funny that like I I do a subject that I don't think is going to do very well and it just kills. It does really good. Really well.
Then I do a subject like this and we got what? 16, 17 people, maybe 20 people. That's nothing.
Usually it's 50.
Maybe it's 40. Maybe it's 80. Whatever.
It always surprises me. I never know what I never know if anything's going to do well. I do a video. I did a video about the What was it?
Education.
And I'm like nah, people are going to be bored with it. They don't want to Nobody's going to do it.
Video did better than a lot of other videos, you know.
Wherever you go, there you are.
I mean that's the truth.
But people don't think of that when they're thinking of moving.
And you know, I see all these things online, you know, I I really try not to watch the videos about Thailand because I don't care what anybody says.
I know how my life is.
And I don't want to say my life is golden.
But pretty much it is.
So I don't worry about what other people are doing or how their life's going or Oh, I've got this problem and that problem with the bank or whatever. I don't worry about it.
All I worry about is myself, you know.
Because wherever you go, there you are.
I'm not worried about, you know, my buddy and oh, he can't do that. I mean, listen.
John O'Wood, Jim, Billy, Carnivore Why should I care about what happens with them?
And you know, I try to If they need any help and they want advice, I try to give it to them, but you know, I try to be smart about it.
But I can't really do anything for anybody but myself, you know.
And that's just how it works.
You know, like why am I here and some other people, they just can't make it?
I see guys all the time. I saw I saw one guy and he goes, "Oh, I came to Thailand and I I don't want to go back there."
Why don't you want to go back there?
I don't know, you know, something I just It It wasn't working.
It wasn't working for me. Why wasn't it working for you?
Or Oh, I can't believe they do this They can do this with your money.
It's so difficult. I hear all this [ __ ] all the time and I just go, "Oh god."
Listen, when I came over here, I had 10 Gs. That's it.
10 grand and I went through that.
Well, I had 10 grand and I had money coming every month for like 18 [snorts] months.
So if I can stay here with that little amount of money and I can build a life for myself, I feel like just about anybody should be able to do it.
Nobody said it would be easy all the time. Nobody said it, you know, like you didn't say it's going to be a walk in the park and you know, once you get going, everything's going to go just as planned. No, it's not. You know, you're going to have to work. It's work.
It could be work, you know, till you set yourself up and you get things going and everything's automatic. And listen, when it comes to our house and how and how we live, where we go, what we do, everything is pretty much automatic.
Well, money money helps things.
I will say that. But you know, listen, I see things about the Philippines and I don't even want to why I like the Philippines and hate Thailand or [ __ ] like that. I don't give a [ __ ] about that. Listen, I've been to the Philippines many many many times.
And I will take Thailand over the Philippines. I will take Thailand over Cambodia. I will take Thailand over just about anywhere.
And you know, guys like that I don't care about them.
I don't care about them, you know.
I mean, what does it matter? You know, to me it doesn't matter at all.
And you know, this is the difference between me a couple of years ago and me now. Now I don't give a flying [ __ ] I really don't care.
Cuz the only thing that matters is the life that I'm living and how it how good it is. What's the quality of my life?
And it's been nice, you know, watching my kids grow up, watching them do things, watching them progress, watching them make money, watching them save money, watching them get ahead.
>> [snorts] >> I I see I wouldn't be concerned about that.
That wouldn't That wouldn't do anything for me.
And you know, I've I've told the story before, but when I lived in I lived in uh Seattle for a while.
And you [clears throat] know, I mean, Jesus Christ, I remember I remember walking up to some chick and saying hello and she just goes, She was like, "My god." And I was like, I just said hello. You know, like what the [ __ ] your problem, honey?
And then when my job ended, it was like I had like a temporary job for like 3 months.
And they said, "Well, we don't have a position here, but we have a position in Portland, Oregon."
And you know, something about Oregon just has It's always turned me off.
Maybe it's the whole, you know, the chicks with hairy armpits or, you know, hippies or I don't know what it is.
But I just decided, "No, I'm not going to go there." And he was like, "Hey, listen, you make good money. You make the same money as what you're making here. The cost of living is better.
You'll get a raise, you see, you know, eventually things will go better, blah blah blah." And I went, "I just don't want to do it, man."
And that's why I'm here instead of there.
He's 55 on roids and growth hormones and married a Filipino with several kids and he has to thank you for taking Filipina. Okay.
Um you know, listen, looking back, marrying the chick with kids, I I think it takes even I think the timing needs to be right, you know.
Um I think the situation needs to be right.
The relationship between the woman and her ex-husband needs to be right, decent, where the guy doesn't care, she doesn't care.
Uh Yeah, that's that's another thing and I wasn't going to say anything, but listen, I've been to Angeles City before and I've seen guys and I'm not going to I'm not going to talk about it too much, but I've seen some guys there and you know, they're they're like grossly overweight, wearing flip-flops with their yellow toenails and telling some little little Filipina to come over and sit on his lap.
And she's like, "Uh-uh."
She doesn't want to.
But you know, of course he's like, "I'll buy you a drink if you sit on my lap or I'll give you, you know, $5 or whatever it is."
And you know, that happens to you, too.
So.
Good judge of character to find the right people in your life that follow the principles.
Well, you know, I did tell you that in the beginning, which is why I don't have all that many friends. The Philippines And seeing many of the guys who are ex-Filipinos are masochistic and that's my theory as to why they stay in the Philippines.
Well, you know, there's a big difference between masochistic and you know, following rules or believing in rules cuz I kind of believe in in rules, you know.
And And what's funny is my wife Listen, I don't ask my wife to take the garbage out.
I take the garbage out, the kids take the garbage out.
But if she needs the garbage to be taken out and she wants to take it out, she'll take it out. She doesn't care.
But I don't make her do that.
Sometimes in the morning, she doesn't know She knows how to make like instant She might make an instant coffee.
But I got, you know, good coffee, regular coffee. And so I make her coffee in the morning sometimes.
This is to be nice, you know.
Yeah, you you need to listen. You got to have respect for her.
You know.
That's one thing, listen.
Like I always say, we can be equals.
That's fine.
But if we're not equals, I'm not going to be beneath you in in you know, in the way below you. I'm not going to That's not me.
So it's either like this and like this with me here when we're equals.
And you know, that works well for us.
And then we could we could say all kinds of bad things about all kinds of places.
I mean, there's there's things in in Pattaya that um I don't approve of, I don't like, whatever, however you want to put it.
She does sometimes.
She knows what's going on.
You know, but but she has told me a couple times, "You better watch what you say. I don't want to get You don't want to get in any trouble, cause a problem for the family or something like that." So Yeah, there's certain things I just don't talk about.
You know.
And you know, quite frankly, um I don't know if I should say this, but I mean, really, uh when when I first started on YouTube, you know, I lost my job and I thought, "Oh well, you know, I got money.
But maybe I'll make some money from YouTube." And I did start making money from And then I started going through the money because I needed it to make the YouTube videos and then, you know, there was that whole YouTube apocalypse and all that kind of thing.
So I remember now thinking to myself, "You can't count on YouTube for, you know, like and unless you're a rarity, if you start making really, you know, you start making three, 10,000, 10,000 dollars a month, you know, this kind of I don't want to say it's a hobby, but you have to take it for what what it is.
And when I first started, it was something that I was really into. And now, you know, I mean, I don't I don't I can't say I don't need the money. No, I can use money all the time.
I can use money all the time. Right? I mean, somebody says, "I'll give you 250 bucks." Okay, fine.
You know, I can always use 250 bucks, right? If I'm earning, you know, a thousand dollars, okay, well, I earned a thousand bucks. Hey, it's money.
But I'm not as hungry for it and I'm not It's not all that important.
And you know, if if there are certain people that Well, I don't want I don't want to get into this too much, but but let's just say we definitely have gentlemen here, but I never disrespect them.
No. And I don't think you should. I mean, if Well, there there was a guy, I'm not even going to name the name of his channel, that I saw this morning and he was bitching about his wife.
And I'm thinking to myself, "You chose her.
She's your wife.
And if you're not getting respected by your wife, you need to either put her in her place and say, "You need to respect me or else." Or you need to say, "Or else, I'm out of here." And then you leave.
I mean, that's the thing.
My wife doesn't disrespect me and I don't disrespect her.
You know.
There's just no reason for it.
>> [clears throat] >> What you get married for?
You know, and I I know plenty of guys who are Oh yeah, I never would get married. I don't want to get married. Okay, well, then don't.
Whatever, it's up to you.
You don't have to get married. Don't get married. Stay single.
You know.
There's there's arguments for and against marriage.
You know.
But I mean, I you know, it's like before I came to Thailand, I had my share of women. In Thailand before I met my wife, I had my share of women, you know.
So I know.
I know what it's like.
I'm not saying nothing.
But what I know is that uh if you got to complain about your wife on your YouTube channel, you shouldn't be married.
Listen, there there's there's a couple things I won't do.
And that's one is to disparage my wife.
Two is to disparage my wife publicly.
If we get into it and we have a discussion, it's me and her behind closed doors and that's it. That's the way we deal with things and that's how it should be.
I mean, Jesus Christ. And you know, the thing is is that here in Thailand, you see Thai women and you think about it.
You look at all the Thai women. I'm talking about women, not little girls, not young girls. I'm talking about women, grown-up adult women.
Now, you know if they got a man, they got things going on in their life.
When they go home and the man is there and they're behind closed doors at night when they turn the lights out or in the morning when they turn the lights on or whenever, they got things going on and they don't talk about them.
She could be a freak between the sheets and you'll never know because she ain't going to tell you.
And that's another thing.
You know.
I mean, what what does she got to tell you everything?
What is the woman So why would you do that to her?
Why would you badmouth your own wife or your own kids? I just don't get it, you I know people and I've talked to them about this. They were badmouthing their girlfriend.
I know one guy in particular who was badmouthing his girlfriend.
He was pissed off at her because she didn't support him because something went on in a hotel that she he didn't like it and she he spoke up because, you know, I'm a regular at this hotel and blah blah blah.
And so then she said, "Listen, I'm going up to the She left him to his own devices.
And he was like, "Hey, hey, where you know, he messaged her or something.
Where are you? Where are you? You got to come down and be with me."
And she didn't want to.
And he goes, "Well, I'm the boss. If I tell you to come down here, you better come down here."
And she just didn't say anything. And he got pissed.
And he basically pretty much broke up with her right then.
Which okay, if that's what you want to do, then do it.
If you believe that, go ahead and do it.
But she was like, "I'm not putting up with this [ __ ] from this guy."
And she didn't.
You know.
And that's the thing, if you're going to complain about it, you got to be prepared to do something.
You can't constantly go, "I don't like this. I don't like this. I don't like this. I don't like this." You sound like a broken record.
Well, yeah.
I'm a [ __ ] I'm a [ __ ] for sure.
So Anyway, hopefully I'll get some some videos done from down in the south in the next couple of days.
And I'll put a couple others up.
We'll see.
Somebody lives upstairs.
Anyway.
>> Ready?
Yeah, this is the thing.
The people who come here who succeed and do well, they think long term.
They don't live like tourists.
They don't rely on Thailand.
You know, they use Thailand in ways that they're able to use the country.
And I mean that in a good way, use the country.

I appreciate that.
Um You know, there's not really too much to say about truly being free. In order to be free, you got to have your act together.
Your [ __ ] has to be tight. If it's not, then you're basically struggling to make it.
You're struggling to make it.
You're struggling to tighten up the ship, to get things together, to build a life.
When you have a life and you built a life and you got money and you're stable, >> [clears throat] >> and you know you got your [ __ ] together.
My wife doesn't do that.
She doesn't argue with Google Maps. My My wife doesn't My wife doesn't want to argue very much. She's not that way, but you know, when when I tell my wife something and I go, "Hey, listen, you need to listen to me." She does listen.
I mean, you know, getting involved with the bar girls, that's just about as stupid as you can be.
Honestly.
I've only known a few guys who really made it long term with their with their girls, bar girls.
And the reason that they did is because they have ample funds.
They know how to draw boundaries. The woman just You know, I mean, she's not like thinking, "I'm going to take him. I'm going to take him. I'm going to get everything out of him. I'm going to do this. I'm going to do that." She's not only thinking me, me, me, me, me.
And that doesn't happen very often.
You know, I mean, you know, you think about it.
If you come here, and this is what I always say, if you come here for a couple of weeks, you're going to be here for 10 days, 17 days, whatever it And you come here and you meet a chick on like day three.
And you hook up with a chick and after another couple of days, you're like, "Oh, baby, I love you. I miss you.
I I know I'm going to have to go back She's taking you to the airport and all kinds of stuff like that.
You know, you got to think about that.
Because you really don't know her.
You know.
Jim, I hate to tell you this, but even now, you and I are still learning the culture.
And being older age and a lot of other You're still learning the culture.
You're always learning.
And if you're not learning, then, you know, like I said, you're spinning your wheels.
You know, it's that simple.
Once Once [snorts] you stop learning, then, you know, I don't know what else to say.
If you're not learning, you're just you're spinning your wheels.
I mean, I'm I'm constantly learning new words in Thai. I forget words and I remember them.
You know.
So, many people working at this Coca-Cola over here, man. I mean, like many, many people.
What did I think?
Switch up people moving out, stuff like that. Some people tickets to Tokyo, whatever. All kinds of stuff, you know.
Trying to move this.
You get used to this.
I don't I don't worry about that [ __ ] You know, I try not to think about it.
Because it is what it is.
It might get worse. You know, who knows?
It might get worse.
You know.
And that's another thing.
You know, uh People are, you know, some I've gotten a couple of messages from people.
"I know you voted for Trump.
You piece of [ __ ] Oh my god, look what he's done [snorts] to the world. Look what he's doing.
He's an asshole." And And I'm like, "Listen, this channel ain't about politics, man.
I don't care.
And, you know, the thing is is if it doesn't affect me, I'm I'm not the showering perspicacious or flipping, rather.
I just don't care.
Cuz I can't really do anything about it.
Well, listen, I hear that all the time and Thai Airways has cut its Thai Airways has cut its uh number of flights.
And, you know, that's the way it goes.
And, you know, my wife and I are supposed to go to the Dominican Republic and I'm supposed to stop in Miami.
I don't think I'm going to go. Honestly, I don't think I'm going to go.
Well, cuz I don't want to take a chance on getting stuck.
She gets stuck, the company pays for her.
I get stuck, nobody's paying.
And you know what, Jim? That's great. I mean, I understand that. Yes, okay, good.
That's great, but but think about something. I've only been here 7 years, something like that, 8 years. been here [snorts] almost 32 years.
But there's people who have been out here for 40 years, 45 years, 50 years.
So, when you're comparing, it doesn't really matter. I mean, you know, like it's just about what you just about what you know.
You know, it's not about comparing to other people.
Cuz quite frankly, like I say, I don't really give a [ __ ] what anybody else knows.
I just care about what I know. I know I can get myself around. I can do things here. I don't need my wife. I don't need anybody.
Now, sometimes I tell the kids, "Make this phone call for me. Do this." I'm going to give them something to do. I tell them, "Then you do this with me."
her don't dry it. It's old jeans. All they have to do is washed and then let them hang dry.
Uh you know, that kind of thing.
But if I wanted to do it, I could go down there very easily. In fact, yeah, I did go yesterday. Picked up my laundry.
And I had a conversation with the lady for like 10 minutes.
We didn't speak a word of English. You know, I don't need anybody to be around me to to be able to carry on a conversation or to do things or to find things. I can easily do that [ __ ] But it it doesn't make me, you know, like I don't care, but I am I mean, like my Thai is vastly better than John's Thai.
But do I care? No.
Doesn't matter.
It really doesn't matter. You know, it's like when you think about it, what's important?
It's nice that you can get by just fine, too.
He can do the whole finger painting and, you know, he can do any piece of wood time.
That's how it is.
Same with you. You know.
>> [snorts] >> You know how busy this place is considering it's very difficult to come here and park and come in here and sit and drink coffee.
4 years. Okay. So, you know, people who have been here say they twice as long as you have.
They're not comparing themselves to you.
Or they shouldn't.
You know. Does that mean that I know eight times more than you do? No.
So, all that matters is that you're comfortable, you get around, you know. My thing is I don't want to have to rely on somebody else.
So, if you're relying on your wife in a situation, you probably need to figure out how to do things on your own.
That's it. Once you can do that, you've attained enough of integration and figuring things out here to where you're fine.
You know, and you can do that in a year or two, three years, five years, you can do whatever.
You know.
You know, like at some point I go, "Wait a minute. I've been here for a long time." And And it's like, "Hey, I should know more about this.
Hey, I should You know, some people know more about this than I do."
Yeah, and you know, that's the other thing. You know, so because you know more, what are you [snorts] getting out of it?
Now, I don't travel as much as I used to travel. I used to be a photographer. I used to write. I used to go to boxing events all the time. I used to deal with uh people as a match maker. I used to do all sorts of things in Thailand and in in Southeast Asia.
Now, I don't do any of those things.
I don't need it. I don't need any of this stuff.
You know.
Because Because Because >> [snorts] >> Because Because Probably.
Well, there's a lot of people I know they are completely ignorant uh about Thailand.
And there are some things that I don't really care about knowing about.
I don't know I don't want to know any more. There was a There was a time when I used to know, "This was the best bar.
Hey, this has got the best looking women in it. This place is, you know, they've got specials at this time." I used to know all this.
I don't know any of it now, and I don't care.
You know. Is it going to mean anything when I'm dead and gone?
What's going to mean anything?
What's going to mean something is that my kids and my wife, they value me as part of the family, my parents and my sister, you know, they value me, my friends value me.
>> [clears throat] >> And then, you know, we had some good times together. That's really the only thing that's important.
I need to do something about that. I need to I need to write something about that.
Or do a video or something about that.
Because really, what's important?
It's important you stay above ground, of course.
You know.
Well, you know, I I about the ignorant thing, I know a guy that he's dead now.
He's a nice guy.
>> [snorts] >> Married to a Vietnamese woman living in Thailand.
He had one kid with her.
And I've told this story before, but one day he comes to me and he goes, "I I didn't know it, but you know, I I've got to have baht sent mod."
I'm like, "What?" He's like, "For retirement, I have to have baht sent mod."
I said, [snorts] "First of all, you mean 800,000. We're speaking in English together.
You don't have to tell me in Thai the number."
I'm like, "What?" You know.
I said, "Why?" He goes, "Well, I let my my visa lapse.
And it used to be 200,000. Now it's baht sent mod."
He just kept going on about this baht sent mod, baht sent mod, baht sent mod.
I mean, okay, this thing is baht. It's baht.
So, you got the money, right? Yeah, okay, we'll transfer the money.
Tell the immigration what what the deal is. And so we did.
And now this guy was completely ignorant. He had no idea of how much it was. He just knew he had to have that money in the bank. Now, he only had, kept in the account with a couple hundred thousand but he forgot to renew his visa, his extension. Extension was dead.
You know, he just forgot about it.
I don't think so, buddy. I hate to tell you this, Robert, but uh I'll take the torture.
I'll take the torture.
I don't believe in heaven, and I don't believe in hell.
So.
This little girl is working as a cashier.
She seems to know what she's doing.
She's 5 years old.
I just, you know, what gets me is I see it all the time.
But I see, you know, like, "Oh, this actor died when he was 47. He had pancreatic cancer." Oh, this lady got shot. She was a famous actress. She died when she was 59. What she die of?
Oh, she had ovarian cancer.
This one is going to die and she's, you know, just people just like us, you know.
So, you know, like what really, when you think about it, what's really important?
Freedom is important. True freedom.
But most people never get that true freedom.
They never ever do.
They're They're part of the system.
And, you know, I've heard this many many times.
They work all their lives.
And then when they're 65, 67, whatever it is, they retire, most people.
And then, they've got money.
May- Maybe they got enough money, but then they're like, "Okay."
They don't have to They don't have the physical ability, some of them, to enjoy the rest of their life.
They're sitting home watching a football game thinking that the games are what's important. And then, you know, they might have a friend over once in a while, and that's their life.
They're not traveling. They're not going to do things. They're not going out fishing or hunting or whatever it is.
Well, if you think about the freedom, freedom of choice, yeah, because if you think about how some places are. Talking about different countries, [snorts] you have no freedom to make the choice.
Listen, if somebody was telling me about China the other day. I don't remember.
Trying to think about it.
I don't I can't remember.
Anyway.
There are those things that are important, and there are those things that are not.
I don't know, man.
Probably.
Doesn't mean I want to do it.
I mean, really, what good would that do?
What's that really do?
What's it going to do for me?
How's it going to make my life so much better?
Because I'm just living in a false reality?
You know, I don't know.
>> [snorts] >> And that's the thing. I think about it.
Am I eating good now?
Am I eating healthy?
Am I eating stuff that I enjoy?
Is my family around me? Are my friends around me?
What is important?
What is it What would it matter if you found out that that you're not in you're not in one now? What would it matter to you?
Would it really matter?
I don't think so.
Not for me.
You'd be like, "Oh, so everything I've been doing has been some kind of something." I don't know what you call it.
Falsehood. You're living in falsehoods.
So, then, you know, like really we we think about things.
What is it that really matters?
And you can boil it down to a few things, and that's it.
You know.
Makes it really easy.
I mean, it it might happen.
It might happen, but guess what?
We might all live on, you know, on Mars in another 50 years or 25 years.
But I ain't going to be here, so what's it going to matter?
It's great if it does, and you know, people are happy, but what does it matter to me?
It's not going to matter to me.
And if somebody's going in 10 years, I'll be like 70 almost 75 years old.
I'm not going there.
I wouldn't go there if, you know, the Earth is exploding, and the only way to live is to to get on a jet plane and go. I probably wouldn't do it.
I'd be like, "Okay, well, my time is up."
You know.
So, that's the whole thing.
What What is important? What is something that really matters? What really matters?
And I think about that all the time.
Hey, my kids are happy, they're doing well, they're getting ahead. Okay, that's important.
My wife's doing well, that's important.
I'm doing pretty well, that's important.
Every Everything's going good back home in Florida. Okay.
Important.
My friends, you know, one of my friends just died.
And you know, I'm bummed about that.
But you know, I know the kind of pain he was in, and and I know maybe now he's in a better place, right? So, other than that >> [clears throat] >> chance we are in the base reality is like one in a billion.
Listen, Elon Musk is a very smart man, but again what is important just to you? Not to anybody else, not to the whole world, to you. What is important?
It used to be I remember boxing and Muay Thai used to be the most important thing in my life. It used to be so important.
It used to be my world.
I'd come home and visit my parents, and I would go run.
I'd run every morning, and people would come over to the house, "What are you doing?" "Oh, I just finished training."
Whatever it was.
Now I think about it not important.
Doesn't matter.
You know.
Doesn't matter anymore.
It's not important, you know.
Think about you're you're in you're in university, and to some people they're in university, they get done, and they go they start working their job, and they're they're working some job in an office somewhere, and you know, they're like, "Oh my god, I can't believe I got done with school, and I finished, and everything is great."
Yeah, it paid. It's important.
But now you're done.
You're depressed.
You know.
Well only thing I would say is how's it going to affect you, Jim?
Is it going to affect you?
Maybe.
But it's kind of doubtful.
You know.
That's what I mean.
You enjoy your breakfast, you enjoy your coffee, you enjoy the time when you're sitting with your family, you enjoy with all these things.
And that's that's what it's all about.
To me, that's what life is about.
And one thing that I am very grateful for is is that I said to myself, "I'm going to make the move." And I did.
And even through the hardships and all of that stuff when I thought, "Oh, I'm going to have to move back home." And you know.
I left when I was like 32.
And I haven't done what other people [clears throat] have done. I didn't have to work in an office for 30 to 40 years.
Anything like that.
Maybe 10 years.
And I got to experience life. So, for that I'm grateful.
Now, some people like their jobs. They they enjoy it. They want to go to work.
You know. So, there's nothing wrong with it. It's just what That's what I said, for you what's important.
Somehow I don't think Elon is going to revolutionize things to where every single person is going to reap the benefits from.
>> [clears throat] >> I I could be wrong, but I talking about this in general.
I just don't think it's going to happen.
Oops.
Fish can't I mean, you know, I've I've looked at looked at the VR. I've I've you know, sat in the Sony uh VR thing where you're driving and flying.
I've done those before.
Not long ago.
And they're fun.
But again I guess, you know How can I say this? You want to make it as long as you can and have as much fun as you as possible. So, that's just another thing to do.
But will it change my life?
Probably not.
You know.
We'll see.
And that's the name of that tune.
Yep.
All right. Well What is the goal of VR? The winner is the one who creates the VR game that you can't tell you're actually playing in.
Okay, but what does that do for you?
That's what I'm saying. What does it do for you?
It helps benefit mankind. Okay, great.
But how does that benefit you?
I've been thinking about this a lot lately.
If you make a million bucks from it then you go, "Oh, yeah, I'm benefiting."
You don't make anything, you don't gain any benefits, then it's like, "Okay."
My thought is if the VR experience is such that you're living in it, and and that differentiates it from reality in a few more decades.
Yeah, so what what what do you get out of it if you're living in it that you don't get while you're living out of it?
That's my point.
What what good does it do you while you're in it?
Can you can you go back in time? Can you if you're sick, can you go back to where you were well, and somehow progress to the point where when you get out of it, you're still healthy?
These kind of things, okay, that's a benefit.
That's what I'm going to say.
We believe in VR.
Yeah, well, you know there's a lot of reality to from reality just in different ways.
So.
Anyway, it's time for me to go.
Honoring what could be self-centered.
It doesn't matter. I changed my mind at 6:30 in the morning.
Anyway, I'm going to ponder this.
Thank you very much for joining me. I appreciate it.
And I will talk to you guys later. It's time for me to go. I got things to do, people to see, important stuff. Yeah, yeah. That's it. So, I will talk to you guys later. See you around.
See you the next time. Talk to you.
Thanks, Jim.
