MONDAY REPORT | 20TH APR 2026Added:
[music] >> Live from Citizen TV, this is the Monday report with Trevor Ombija. Yes, that's absolutely right. Thank you so much for tuning in to the Monday report and staying with Citizen [music] TV. We are continuing our series talking about agriculture, specifically the farmers forum.
We went all the way to Mpeketoni, that's in Lamu County, where we're having a conversation with farmers there on cotton farming. It's been years since they started growing BT cotton and that transition has improved their yield from more than less than 500 kg per acre to more than 1,300 to 1,500 [music] kg per acre. They say they've seen a lot of transformation there, but I'd like to hear from them directly. How has BT farming [music] been like in Mpeketoni, that's in Lamu. To help us make sense of this entire conversation, we're speaking to Lucy Njeri Kimani. [music] She's a cotton farmer in Lamu County for over 14 years. Joseph Migwi is the chairman Lamu Cotton Growers Cooperative and also Dominic Gugi is the operations manager Thika Cloth Mill Lamu Ginnery. They are the ones who take all the cotton in that region and James Gish Gishu is the CC Agriculture from Lamu County. We'll speak to them [music] and find out what BT cotton means for the people of Lamu and how it has transformed the lives of the farmers there on our usual series Farmers Forum. But also we have some good news in the sporting world and I'm not alone here. Joining me is Emmanuel Ndungu. What's the latest in the sporting world, bro? Good evening. Yes, that good news is the Boston Marathon, a new course record on the men's side and a clean sweep of the podium on the women's side for Kenya. So we'll get into that a little bit later, but we also have the African Club Volleyball Championships to look forward to as well. A lot of success on that side, too. All right, looking forward to that.
That's our top stories tonight.
>> [music] >> John Korir >> [cheering] >> wins the Boston Marathon in a new John Korir and Sharon Lokedi delivered dominant double for Kenya, storming to victory in the men's and women's races respectively at the Boston Marathon.
They should stop discrimination.
All Kenyan children deserve IDs whether they support or oppose William Ruto. It is a plan to steal the votes. Gachagua alleges deliberate suppression of identity cards issuance in perceived opposition strongholds.

>> [music] >> Thank you so much for tuning in. Now our sign language interpreter tonight is Youlan Saleh. So tonight we begin with some good news from Boston. John Korir successfully defended his Boston Marathon title, setting a new course record of 2 hours, 1 minute and 52 seconds. Now Korir was 5 seconds ahead of world champion Alphons Simbu of Tanzania who finished second with another Kenyan, Benson Kipruto, finishing third. Now Korir, who won last year in Boston, was the man to beat and he was with the leading pack halfway through the race before making a move for the front. On the women's front, it was a clean podium sweep for Kenya, taking the four top positions. Sharon Lokedi won the race in 2 hours, 18 minutes and 51 seconds, leading Lois Chemnung, Mary Ngugi and Mercy Chelangat in finishing second, third and fourth.
Emmanuel Ndungu will give you more details on that good news there, but congratulations to all our men and women for doing Kenya proud as always. Let's get now into them politics. Democracy for Citizen party leader Rigathi Gachagua now says there's a plot by the government to suppress issuance of identification cards in opposition strongholds, a move aimed at jeopardizing voter registration.
Speaking during the unveiling of the party's Kiambu County gubernatorial candidate John Mwaura at the party headquarters, the former deputy president reiterated that the planned anti-government protest over the spike in fuel prices will be properly scheduled during a meeting of United Opposition principals on Tuesday. Seth Olale has more.
With 15 months to go to the 2027 general election, >> [music] >> DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua says there's a well-calculated scheme to alter the outcome of the polls through interference with the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The former deputy president is accusing the government of plotting to suppress issuance of national identification cards in opposition strongholds, a move aimed at jeopardizing voter registration.
Communities that support William Ruto are being issued IDs within two or three days and chiefs from those communities are collecting the IDs and taking them home to the young people.
Communities perceived to be against William Ruto are taking between three to four months for their IDs to be processed.
Gachagua is now threatening to lead his supporters in storming Huduma centers to protest what he describes as an election malpractice.
And we are putting the registrar of persons on notice.
If this discrimination does not stop, we shall request our young people, the Gen Zs, to occupy the registration centers, the Huduma centers The DCP party leader calling upon Gen Zs to register in large numbers in order to vote out incumbent President William Ruto in the next general election.
And we are putting the registrar of persons on notice.
If this discrimination does not stop, we shall request our young people, the Gen Zs, to occupy the registration centers, the Huduma centers Gachagua's claims come days after IEBC raised concerns that close to half a million ID cards remain uncollected. The United Opposition leader continued accusing President William Ruto of influencing the increased prices of fuel through energy cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. He said opposition leaders will meet to plan the schedules of protests aimed at removing taxes on fuel. We in the principles of the United Alternative Government will meet and chart the way forward and consult with the people of Kenya what to do next.
The DCP party leader who unveiled John Mwaura as Kiambu gubernatorial aspirant accused President William Ruto of dividing opposition outfits, including ODM.
Even as it pledges to collaborate with other like-minded parties to unseat President William Ruto through the 2027 general election, DCP says it will ensure it conducts free and fair primaries for all its aspirants.
Seth Olale, Citizen TV at the DCP headquarters, Nairobi County.
Staying with politics, ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga now says that the ODM party will not be swallowed by the UDA party in the broad-based arrangement and that the party will do all it takes to protect its strongholds. Dr. Oburu presided over the Nairobi ODM youth forum, vowed to protect ODM support base from any competition. As Emmanuel Tuiyot now reports, the ODM party leader has threatened to sue DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua for saying that he was bought by President William Ruto to hand over the ODM party.
>> [music] >> The ODM Nairobi youth convention held Monday set the stage for the ODM party's rank and file to respond to jitters from its membership regarding the rocky relationship with its broad-based partners, UDA.
In an apparent rejoinder to concerns that the party's national support base was being eaten away by the ruling UDA party, Dr. Oburu Oginga moved in to quell any fears.
Now our party will grow from strength to strength.
It can never be swallowed by anybody. It is too big to be swallowed.
If you try to swallow it, your stomach will burst.
Oburu saying ODM will defend its strongholds by tooth and nail. We are going to make sure that we retain the seats which we have now.
And we are going to make sure that we add even a double what we have.
>> [screaming] >> The ODM leaders then fired a warning shot at the UDA party with a UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar finding himself in the crosshairs.
This comes as Dr. Oburu threatened to take legal action against the DCP party leader Gladys Wanga for allegedly saying he was compromised by President William Ruto.
After the Nairobi convention, the Linda ground ODM caravan will now be heading to the coastal city of Mombasa to popularize the party as the 2027 heat continues to mount. Emmanuel Too, Citizen TV, Jamhuri Showground, Nairobi.
And away from politics now, tens of thousands of Kenya Institute of Management graduates could be just holding worthless papers after the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority, TVETA, declared that all certificates issued by the institution from 2018 are not recognized. The authority also revoked KIM College license and ordered for closure of all its 18 branches countrywide. As Emily Chebet now reports, the institution has been offering unapproved courses and employing trainers who are not licensed.
Hundreds of students who graduated at the Kenya Institute of Management from 2018 will be forced to go back to school after the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority declared that those qualifications are not recognized for purposes of employment, further education, or professional advancement.
We are not going to negotiate for diplomas. You will earn the diplomas.
The Technical and Vocational Education and Training regulator flagged the Kenya Institute of Management for offering and awarding academic and professional programs without proper accreditation.
According to the authority's acting Director General Timothy Nyongesa, the institution failed to comply with the 3-year grace period within which all institutions that had been offering internal courses and issuing their own certificates were required to seek accreditation. Up to 2018, we expected these institutions then to end any programs that were internal, so to speak. We gave this particular institution, KIM, the option of doing programs uh run by the TVET CDACC. TVET CDACC is the the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment, and Certification Council, which they did in 2019.
Why they relapse, we don't know. The Director General says they have also received several complaints from the members of public on questionable certificates and the use of unaccredited trainers. Even those TVET programs that are offered in the universities are approved by the TVETA board.
All the level six, level five, level four programs that are developed by the universities, which are qualification awarding bodies because of their charters, are as well presented to the TVETA board. We have not approved any level six, level five, level four program from Management University of Africa.
That is what KIM has purportedly been doing out there. The Kenya Institute of Management, through their social media platforms, have said that they're actively engaging the relevant authorities to address the issues raised. The institution assuring their stakeholders, students, alumni, parents, and the general public that they're treating the matter with utmost seriousness.
Emily Chebet, Citizen TV, Nairobi.
Now, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights has verified complaints of human rights violations from at least 1,800 victims linked to protest and demonstrations across the country.
Commission Chairperson Gladys Oganga says that the compiled list of victims will be presented to President William Ruto as part of the efforts to initiate compensation. The commission has further released a draft reparation guidelines for proposing a minimum payout of 3 million shillings for loss of life and up to 4 million shillings for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
Safina Chegon Omar reports on the proposed compensation framework now open for public participation.
Yeah, they're saying Nearly 3 weeks after the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights closed the window for receiving complaints for victims of alleged rights violations, the process has now moved into its final stages.
Commission Chairperson Clarice Oganga says verification of the claims is at an advanced phase. For the other violations, um we are yet to consolidate the numbers, but uh for victims of protests and demonstrations, we have a consolidated figure of about 1,800 victims. The commission is now preparing to hand over its final list to President William Ruto, a key step expected to unlock the next phase of the reparations process.
Following a 6th March 2026 presidential directive, KNCHR has finalized a comprehensive compensation framework targeting victims of human rights violations, including those affected during protests. The reparations guidelines of 2026, released on Monday and which is still being subjected to public participation, propose a minimum payout of 3 million shillings for cases involving fatal shootings, death in custody, or during demonstrations.
Victims of sexual and gender-based violence could receive up to 4 million shillings.
The framework further outlines 2 million shillings for victims of enforced disappearances or abductions and 100,000 shillings for cases involving destruction of property, looting, or loss of business. Compensation is just a way of saying pole.
It may not bring you back to where you are. It's very hard to, you know, to quantify someone's life.
So, the most we can do is use what the courts have um have have used. But, remember also the courts don't have like a standard figure that they give. They look at uh the various issues, how old the person was, what the person was doing in terms of um employment or uh source of livelihood.
How many people uh this person was responsible for.
So, what we are proposing are just minimum figures.
Meaning that um people may not get the same amount.
Beyond financial compensation, the commission emphasizes that reparations will also focus on restitution and rehabilitation of victims. The framework further provides for acknowledgement of wrongdoing, official apologies, and guarantees of non-repetition of such violations. From our perspective, there's probably a gap in terms of how police manage crowds and assemblies.
So, one of the aims of non-repetition is to have legal reforms to address uh the gaps that are in our laws, to address the practices.
Members of the public have 7 days to submit their views on the proposed guidelines, after which a final document will be consolidated and presented to President William Ruto. The commission says the framework will inform a broader policy and legal mechanism to address the long-standing challenge of unresolved human rights violations.

Now, President William Ruto has defended the disparity in fuel prices across the East African region, explaining why Kenyan motorists continue to pay more at the pump compared to their counterparts in the neighboring countries. The head of state argues that Kenya's classification as a middle-income economy places it in a different fiscal bracket from several regional peers, most of which fall under lower income or least developed categories. Now, he further contends that this status comes with heavier national obligations, including the upkeep of extensive infrastructure networks, particularly roads, whose maintenance burden, he says, exceeds that of other members of the East African Community combined.
But, how accurate are these claims?
Citizen TV's Ben Kirui breaks down the facts. Citizen TV, as well.
For five consecutive days following the latest fuel price hike, public debate, anger, and growing frustration have dominated national conversation. While the increase reflects a broader global trend, many Kenyans are questioning why pump prices in the country remain significantly higher than in neighboring states.
President William Ruto has sought to justify the disparity, [clears throat] pointing to fuel levies as a key source of funding for the country's transport infrastructure. He highlighted ongoing road works covering more than 20,000 of kilometers, arguing that Kenya carries a heavier maintenance burden than its regional counterparts.
>> Our fuel supports transport infrastructure.
I just want Kenyans to know that we have 20,000 km of tarmac to maintain. 20,000 km of tarmac to maintain here in Kenya is actually the same and for the other six or seven East African countries.
If you add the number of kilometers in Uganda, Tanzania, DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, it is not 20,000 km.
However, scrutiny of regional data presents a more complex picture. While Kenya does maintain one of the most developed road networks in the region, available figures suggest that the comparison may not be entirely straightforward. In Tanzania, figures from the Tanzania National Roads Agency indicate a total road network of approximately 86,472 km, with around 15,000 km paved as of 2026. Uganda reports a paved network of between 6,300 and 6,338 km, while Rwanda has approximately 1,729 km of paved national roads. Combined, these figures exceed 23,000 km, surpassing the 20,000 km cited by the president. The remarks also raise pertinent questions regarding how national income classifications relate to fuel pricing. Kenya, with a GDP of approximately $147.26 billion, according to the International Monetary Fund, is often viewed as a regional economic leader.
Kenya is a middle-income country.
Our neighbors are least development countries. There's There's a big difference. If you want to compare Kenya fairly with others, compare Kenya with other middle-income countries. Yet, under World Bank classifications, Kenya remains grouped alongside Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Djibouti as a lower-middle-income economy. Even beyond regional comparisons, Kenya's fuel prices appear higher when compared against some upper-middle-income economies. In Mauritius, a petrol retails at approximately 163 Kenyan shillings per liter, and diesel at 180 Kenyan shillings. In Seychelles, both petrol and diesel sell at around 191 Kenyan shillings per liter. Meanwhile, in South Africa, petrol is priced at roughly 184.35 Kenyan shillings per liter, and diesel at 206 shillings. These comparisons suggest that the justification for Kenya's higher fuel prices extends beyond infrastructure financing alone, pointing instead to taxation, economic policy, and market dynamics. Ben Kirui, Citizen TV, Nairobi.
Now, Kenya and Italy have signed eight agreements, including grants for environmental conservation and security sector training. President Ruto, who spoke after meeting Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, said issues around Itare Dam had also been resolved. Lillian Muli reports on day one of the three-day visit.
Billed as a visit to deepen Kenya-Italy relations and unlocking infrastructure and investment deals, President Ruto's visit got off to a bright start on Monday as he announced the signing of eight deals. Ruto said the multiple deals and grants are aimed at boosting trade, investment, and cooperation across key sectors.
Specifically to thank your government, uh Mr. Madam Prime Minister, for the grants extended to us on um our arid and semi-arid areas, the grants extended to us to for restoration of the Cherangani Forest and other degraded lands, a grant extended to Kenya on peace and security for training of human capital in that space.
I'm very also happy that um uh subsequent to the visit of your Minister for Higher Education, today we have again signed another agreement on research, innovation, and sharing of training of high- quality professionals. The leaders also resolved long-standing issues affecting key development projects, including the stalled Itare Dam, even though there was no mention of progress on the controversial Arror and Kimwarer Dams, paving the way for their implementation.
I am also very happy that finally we have resolved the issues that were outstanding on some of our projects.
Um Itare project for one, that now we have a way forward on how this is going to be uh not just resolved the past, but also agree on how we are going to implement this project going into the future.
Um I am also happy that we have agreed on other areas of training. Um when uh your Minister for Education came to Kenya, we signed an MoU, and today we will be proposing, as we have agreed, uh in the coming weeks, how to finance our technical and vocational training centers to equip them with Italian equipment. President Ruto, who earlier met his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella, >> [music] >> also laid a wreath at the tomb of the fallen soldiers and also attended the Kenya-Italy Business Forum, where he pitched investment opportunities in infrastructure, irrigation, and energy and engaged global partners. Lillian Muli, Citizen TV.
All right, let's go back to our top story. Here is some good news from Boston. John Korir successfully defended his Boston Marathon title, setting a new course record of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 52 seconds. Kibiwott was 5 seconds ahead of world champion Alphonce Simbu of Tanzania, who finished second, with another Kenyan, Benson Kipruto, finishing third. Korir, who won last year in Boston, was the man to beat, and he was with the leading pack halfway through the race before making a move for the front. On the women's side, it was a clean podium sweep for Kenya, taking the four top positions. Sharon Lokedi won the race in 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 51 seconds, leading Loice Chemnungor, Mary Ngugi, and Mercy Chelangat in finishing second, third, and fourth. But, she said she's in the best shape of her life.
2022 and 23. Now, we get to see John Korir defend the Boston Marathon on the 130th anniversary.
>> So, a quick look at Simbu and Kipruto fighting for second, but as he gets through 26 miles, now he's through 385 yards.
It is John Korir. 2:03:02 is going to go down. How about 2:02? And that's the question here.
>> [cheering] >> But, he is well under the record. There he's soaking it all in right now.

Appreciate all the hard work from the men and women in [music] Boston. Now, we're taking a quick break here on The Monday Report. When we come back, we're all the way to Bicket Tony in Lamu County to speak about BT cotton, which we've been growing for about 4 years now. We'll see what some of them have to say.
The Ketoni now cool water is for cooling pamba.
Tafadhali, wacha pamba pamba hiyo pamba.
Wangari will take a walk away. Naipamba Na ukipanda ipamba pamba isha pasuka.
Anapeleka sokoni mwenye ako na mahindi inabidi zingine hiyo mahindi ni chakula huwezi uza chakula. Lakini unakuta >> Thanks for staying with the Monday Report. Now, government pathologist Dr. Grace Midego has confirmed that the two protesters killed during the issue around demonstrations died from excessive bleeding from gunshot wounds.
The postmortem examinations conducted at Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary on Monday revealed that one victim was shot in the front of the neck and that the bullet exited at the back, while the second sustained a gunshot wound through the mouth with the bullet remaining lodged in the body. The bullet was retrieved and handed over to the detectives for ballistic analysis, while additional samples were collected for toxicology and DNA testing.
We had two cases, uh two young men who had sustained gunshot injuries. One had gunshot injury entry was on the anterior neck surface, and exit was on the back side back. Then the other one uh had an entry injury through the mouth, but then there was no exit. So, both of them the cause of death was massive hemorrhage, of course due to the gunshot the single gunshot injury.
Now, farmers in Kenya's key maize-growing regions are warning of a sharp drop in production this season unless the government urgently resolves the ongoing fertilizer shortage. In Trans-Nzoia County, farmers are voicing growing frustration over the lack of top-dressing fertilizer, raising fears over reduced yields and potential food insecurity. Kama Owangi has the details.
At Mama Judith Okango's farm in Kwanza, Trans-Nzoia, farmhands race against time to clear stubble on weeds threatening her maize crop.
But even as she works to protect her field, worries etched on her face. For 2 weeks now, Judith says she has made countless trips in search of the top-dressing fertilizer without success.
At this critical growth stage, the crop demands urgent feeding.
Her fears are growing by the day. Judith questions how such a crucial farming input is still out of reach, warning that if the shortage proceeds beyond the first week of May when the top-dressing window closes, yields could be slashed by half.
Her predicament mirrors that of hundreds of maize farmers thronging the Kitale NCPB stores in search of CAN and urea, the two fertilizers essential for boosting crop growth at this stage.
As farmers warn of an impending production crisis if the Ministry of Agriculture fails to act swiftly, sources at the National Cereals and Produce Board say the fertilizer is already in the country, reportedly held at the Port of Mombasa awaiting distribution.
Kama Owangi, Citizen TV.
The National Taxpayers Association, NTA, has asked stakeholders in the transport sector to refrain from imposing exorbitant fares following the recent fuel price hike. In a statement, the association warned that some matatu operators are exploiting the situation, placing an additional burden on Kenyans already grappling with the high cost of living. Through its chief executive officer, the NTA further called on both public [clears throat] and private sector employ- employers to consider adopting remote work arrangements as a temporary measure to cushion Kenyans from rising transport expenses.
This is the time that this increase in fuel prices does not really commensurate to the salaries increment.
You know what we are all Kenyans are going through. We would encourage the government to really consider having a policy that will allow the public service and even private sectors or the PBOs to encourage working from home. As you can see, I've implemented this as a strategy so that instead of spending the ones who are using public transport 300 per day, and you see that comes to around over 6,000 per month, which is not planned prior. So, this this something that needs to be adopted. In terms of supply chain, it is the time when now all the nations policy makers need to have a candid dialogue to see how to really regulate even on the market system rates so that we don't have supply chain disrupted in our in our markets local markets.
All right, let's take another quick break in the Monday Report. When we come [music] back, we'll get into some business news, but at the same time, let's listen to some sentiments of farmers from Pigaton in Lamu who've been growing BT cotton on their lived experience.
>> [music] >> Car importers decry taxation system applied by KRA, argue that it results in higher tax payments.
So, what's some business news? Nine motor vehicle importers have raised concern over the sharp increase in the cost of clearing vehicles at the Port of Mombasa, accusing the Kenya Revenue Authority, that is KRA, of policy shifts that have significantly driven up the prices. According to the importers, the taxman has moved away from the current retail selling price valuation method and reverted to physical on-site inspection of vehicles, a move that they say has introduced inconsistencies in valuation. And this results in officials assigning very varying values to similar vehicles. Now, this they argue has resulted in inflated duty charges and ultimately higher retail prices for consumers. Jimmy Mbogo has more.
Motor vehicle importers say the shift in the system of taxation by the Kenya Revenue Authority has resulted in inflated duty charges. According to the importers, the authority is using the container freight station CFS, a secure off-dock storage facility, where imported vehicles are transferred from ships for inspection, custom clearance, and storage before collection to do {quote} confirmation, a process that they argue has been abused leading to increase in taxes paid.
Confirmation is going to affect all the cars with the same very much April going to be there. They are using something that called that's they are using something called rulings.
They are coming up with absurd figures.
Absurd. How will you buy an Alto, an Alto at 1 million? How? The motor vehicle dealers say through this ruling, KRA officials are increasing the taxes by over 80% and in some cases by nearly double, a situation that they say has made business untenable. The impact is expected to be felt mostly by lower- and middle-income earners who rely heavily on imported used cars. They sit in a boardroom someday, they decide, "Wow, this car has demand.
Let's hike the price."
There's no RT, there's no C system. They have nothing. We've gone to court to challenge that.
But they can't explain it.
million, right? So, with the taxes in increase by 209, what do you expect?
Obviously, we are going to change the price. There's a car called Nissan Note Nissan Note E12. It used to be 234.
Now, they have increased by 222. So, both Nissan Note E12 and Nissan Note E13 have increased. So, the common Nissan Note that we used to sell at 1.1 is going for almost 1.4. Documents we have seen show a huge discrepancy in taxes applied to similar model vehicles over period of time. For instance, a Mazda Demio imported in the country earlier in the year was charged a total of 259,007 shillings in taxes, only for similar model to cost 396,808 shillings, a 137,808 shillings difference. Similarly, taxes on a Toyota Succeed went up from 272,241 shillings to 433,937 shillings in a matter of weeks. We reached out to the Kenya Revenue Authority on the matter. KRA says they have not abandoned the current retail selling price CRSP and that it continues to be used as previously directed by the court. KRA further adding that taxes on motor vehicle are payable in accordance with the common external tariff CET which sets out the relevant tax rates depending on the classification of the vehicle. KRA breaks down the taxes on motor vehicle as follows: import duty charged at 35% of customs value CIF, excess duty at 20%, motor vehicles with engine capacity not exceeding 1,500 cc at 25%.
Petrol vehicles exceeding 1,500 cc but less than 3,000 cc, diesel vehicles exceeding 1,500 cc but less than 2,500 cc at 35% while petrol vehicles exceeding 3,000 cc and diesel vehicles exceeding 2,500 cc are charged a value added tax of 16%. The authority further argues that all motor vehicle models are subjected to the same valuation method.
According to players within the car importation market, if these irregularities are not addressed, the dream for a lot of Kenyans to own a car might remain just that, a dream.
Juma Bwongo, Citizen TV, Nairobi.
Jubilee Life Insurance has unveiled the education offering dubbed Faida Elimu Insurance Plan, a product aimed at education protection while also serving as investment solution designed to ensure that children's academic journey remains uninterrupted.
The product allows parents to save for up to 5 years but gives them the flexibility to withdraw in case of emergencies or financial constraints while allowing them to hold contributions if need to be. The Insurance Regulatory Authority IRA has called for more investment in technology-based solutions to attract the younger demographic into the financial service sector.
Uh additionally, we're going to have life insurance cover as part of it. So, if anything were to happen, we'll pay that life insurance to the beneficiaries.
A critical benefits to this product, if anything were to happen to uh the policyholder, either death or disability, Jubilee will take up the premiums up to the end of the policy to make sure that the benefits are available for for the child. So, And as the regulator, we've given you the platform, the innovation a-hub, as well as given you the framework on how to develop this particular products.
So, um we must work together, ourselves as the regulator, the industry players, to enhance number one, financial literacy, because we cannot have uptake if we don't have our people being literate. We also have to increase insurance awareness, build trust in the industry and increase uptake.
All right, that wraps up business news.
Coming up next is Emmanuel Ndungu [music] with the sporting action.
All right, then. Let's get into the day's sports. Kenyan teams, Kenya Pipeline and KCB, will meet in the semi-finals of the 2026 Women Africa Volleyball Club Championship after winning their quarterfinal matches on Monday afternoon.
KCB were ruthless in a 3-0 win over Mayo Kani Evolution of Cameroon in the championship being played in Cairo, Egypt. KCB won in straight sets of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-21.
Pipeline, meanwhile, were pushed all the way by another Kenyan side, DCI, before winning 3-1 in sets of 25-17, 25-12, 21-25, and 25-16.
The semi-final will be played tomorrow.
Karthage of Tunisia are also in the semis where they are likely to meet hosts Al Ahly of Egypt.
In other news, Myah Patel played 77 on day three of the Coast Junior Open tournament to snatch the title on the last day of the three-day competition.
Patel was the most consistent over the three days, carding 75 in the opening round, 76 in the second round, and 77 in the final round on Monday afternoon.
Overnight leader Kingsley Afull of Ghana was pushed down to second after carding 79 in the final round. He was one stroke ahead of Patel going into that round.
Justine Engera, who had a solid day two after carding 69, had a tough day with 83 points to drop to third overall.
The best girls in the championship was Cherono Kipkorir, tied in fourth with Miles Wanjome. She played 75 on the final day to make up for her poor start where she played 81.
And to finish off, Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring as Al Nassr reached the AFC Champions League two semi-finals with a 4-0 victory over Emirati side Al Wasl. The Portuguese striker netted in the 11th minute to open the scoring before two goals in two minutes put the Riyadh side in complete control at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai. With the semi-final place looking assured, Jorge Jesus' side took their foot off the gas in the second half and coasted to victory, replacing stars Ronaldo, Félix, and winger Kingsley Coman with one eye on Wednesday's semi-final.
>> [cheering] [cheering] [music] >> So, that's [snorts] all the sports news that we had for you today. My name is [music] Emmanuel Ondongo. After the break, we'll be back with Trevor Ombija with a discussion of cotton farmers in Lamu County. So, we'll be back just on the other side.
