Understanding fish behavior and social dynamics is essential for successful aquarium management, as stressed or aggressive fish can negatively impact the health of other species, and proper environmental enrichment like natural logs and hiding spots helps fish thrive in captivity.

I Went Foraging in a Dangerous ForestAdded:
OW! My God, man, I went to get some hides for my monster fish in a terrifying tropical forest. The problem is being here alone and hearing the noises in the woods. Look at this. Look how crazy this is. My God, man, I'm stuck. I'm tangled up. Is it safe to cross here?
Man, the worst part is that where I really want to explore, I have to cross this bridge. If I fall in the water, I'm going down with you guys. Whoa, it's cracking. Welcome to another video. I'm here, look, in my recording studio. And before I get to work on what I'm going to do in this video, I want to show you guys something. And no, it's not about the lake or the giant pool. Here all my monsters, they're doing great.
Everyone's hungry as always, and that's a great sign. Look, the oscars are eating a lot, the pangasius too, the doradinhos, arapaimas, seफारेस, and redtail catfish. Well, all the fish here are amazing. But what I want to show you before we go to that forest is the result of what happened here, related to the last video. For those who haven't seen the last video, go check it out because I put a live fish in here together with Percy Jackson, who's my electric fish from the Amazon. And man, this jacundá actually managed to survive the electric fish's shocks. Well, but the question is, 3 days later, is it still alive here? Let me just give a little bit of food to these ones too because they're [music] starving here.
Ah, everyone is eating really well. This one's for you guys. Now, let's see if I manage to put another fish besides the armored catfish together with the electric eel, with Percy Jackson, my electric fish from the Amazon. So, what do you think happened here? Well, guys, 3 days later and it's game over for the jacundá. It's gone. With how big Percy Jackson's belly is, well, you can already tell what happened, right? Maybe he took advantage of the situation.
While the jacundá was sleeping during the night, he went ahead and swallowed it. It's been about 12 hours and Percy Jackson is still in the same position.
Man, my God, dude, just look at the size of that belly. Oh my Lord, man. I think he's going to stay there for a while longer to finish digesting, but let's go. There's good stuff to do around here. After 5 days of treatment, it's time for scorpion to be discharged. Man, scorpion, you're going home, man. Let's get everything ready so he can go back to his place. Like I told you guys here, I'm only going to leave the discus fish.
So, I'm going to remove the two geophagus and also the cabover. No, because they're bad for the discus fish.
Actually, they're not. But look how restless they are. When it's feeding time, they get even more anxious and the discus fish don't come close to eat. And that gets in the way a bit because like I said before, those who know know, these are fish that get stressed out really easily and stressed fish end up getting sick, just like scorpion. Well, let's go ahead and take the geophagus out of here. I'm going to have to clear some space here in this tank rack. And you, Kevin, congratulations. You've been promoted. Let me release Kevin here and I'll explain to you why he's named that.
Kevin, welcome to your new home.
Congratulations. You've been promoted, man.
When he arrived, I never thought I could leave him here. He arrived so tiny and his name is Kevin because of Macaulay Culkin's character in that movie, Home Alone, man. He was rescued. Actually, all the fish that are here in this rack system were rescued except for the cachapira, which is here, but Sky, who is here, was rescued. Mega's widow was also rescued. Anyway, when I went to rescue Kevin, we carried everything, the aquarium, rocks, decorations, equipment.
And when we were already in the car about to leave, we remembered that he was still inside the little bucket back in the house. There couldn't be a better name for him than Kevin, right? From the movie Home Alone. Look, he's already there, see? He's growing a lot, wild pattern. And here at the size he is now, he's no longer in danger from any fish.
Now that Kevin's been promoted, he's already upstairs.
Here space has opened up, which is where I'm going to temporarily put the two geophagus. And remember, it's very temporary because, thank God, I managed to pay off, man. I finished paying today for my new gigantic aquarium, which is coming here. Now I just have to go pick it up. So, all of this here is going to be completely transformed with plenty of space to put a lot of fish, but let's go because this is going to be a surprise, man, and I'm really excited.
I got one. Come here. Let's go, you beautiful thing.
No mess. All done. The two geophagus here got the camera a little wet. Well, it's pretty much always the same water, so I'm just going to let them acclimate to the temperature a little bit here, here in the studio. I tried to keep the parameters similar in emergencies like this.
First geophagus, come here. This is just a hotel for you. It's not your permanent home. Second, go over there and settle in, okay? Remember, you're only going to be here for a little while, so take the opportunity to rest. Let's go. Both of them are already here. And now the next one, which is cabover, come here.
Whoa, I got it. Calm down. Calm down.
Calm down. I got it. And something really interesting that I always need to mention about this fish is that it's one of the craziest fish I have here in my recording studio. There's no problem with it being out of the water like this because this fish here is a real tank.
It's a tough guy, this species. Cabover evolved to survive for a very, very long time, even out of the water. It's a type of catfish, but it has very, very tough armor that keeps it from losing moisture. And during dry periods, well, it leaves a place with little water and just look at how it does it. Exactly like this. It literally moves its body to get around on land until it finds another place with water. Man, this fish here is amazing, but let's go put it in its new home, which will be here in my pond, a real basin. [music] It doesn't even need to acclimate because imagine that one moment it's on dry land. So, when it finds water, it just goes right in. There's not even time to acclimate.
That's how it is in nature. It's going to stay here since it's a nice fish and sharing this video is fine. The corydoras are in the corner while the mollies and tetras are back here. Well, cabover, this is a temporary home for you too, huh? I'm really looking forward to getting this new aquarium. And now this aquarium here is pretty much exclusive for the discus fish, at least the middle and upper parts because down there we still have the plecos, but I'm not going to take them out because they spend the whole day among the logs. They don't bother anyone. Along with the loach that lives down there too, which I don't even know where it hides. They're going to help eat any leftover food at the bottom if there's any leftover feed.
And they also help maintain the water quality. All right. Well, now it's the long-awaited moment to get scorpion.
Scorpion, let's go to your home.
Well, since he has a heater, here the temperature is 30 or 32° and over there it's 28. I'm going to leave him inside the little bag here, letting him acclimate in that aquarium, just like a fish that just arrived from the store.
Let's go, scorpion. Let's go back home.
All set. You're in the bag. I'll tie it with a rubber band, too, so the air doesn't leak. Let's take scorpion back to his home. Scorpion, are you happy to go back to your home?
I'll secure it here with the lid. Leave him there for about 10 minutes, man.
What will his reaction be? And scorpions, Sub-Zero and the other discus fish. If before he got sick, he was the dominant discus fish in this aquarium, well, it's going to be something new, but let's see because a lot has changed.
There are no more geophagus. There's no cabover down here messing around. There will be a lot of new things here. All set. A few minutes later and he's acclimated. Let's go, scorpion. It's time, man. Come here, buddy, and let's go. Welcome back to your home.
Let's see how the others will welcome him. Man, I'm going to have to sit here for a few minutes and look, everyone is on guard here.
And scorpion is a bit scared. Oh my God, man, I hope it works out. Whoa, he blended in with the school there, man.
Here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to dim the lights a bit here. Leave it darker and turn these off, too.
Okay, with this side of the studio off, it's better for them. Scorpion, stay in your spot. I'll finish shutting down the studio and just leave the little stars on. Something here turned out great, man. This panel with buttons ended up being really practical. Check this out.
I'm going to turn off that spotlight.
Turn off the light on Percy Jackson's aquarium. And I've already set aside two buttons here for the ultraviolet filter.
Look, turned it on, turned it off. Okay, let's go and leave the baby in the dark, too. And now, yes, just a little stars up here. They'll be better here, see?
It'll be much calmer. Whoa, next day.
And look, scorpion is doing great, man.
Let me turn on the light here so it's better.
There we go. That's better. Scorpion is doing great. He's already fought a bit with the other acarás. You can see he stays on this side while they stay on the other. Well, now that I got closer to the aquarium and put the phone near him, he closed up a little, but he's doing great. He's even been fighting with his other companions here.
And look how good he looks. He's already eaten, too. He's had plenty to eat. And let's keep following along and hope everything goes well here in this aquarium. Maybe I'll even be able to bring more acarás here, of course, quarantining them and doing everything properly. I'm learning how to raise these creatures. My thing, as you know, is the white fish, the giant monsters, but I also love these colorful and smaller fish. At least I'm really enjoying the acarás. Let's keep learning more and more. And now, yes, I'm already geared up here. All set to go into the forest, look for some logs and roots so I can put them in my new gigantic aquarium, which will be right here. Oh, and of course, there are also some upcoming projects for turtles, for other animals, and I'm really going to need logs and roots, especially those big ones. Here. The best part is that even outside the conservation area, in the middle of the city where I live, I still have some contact with nature and can find great things. Let's check it out now.
Okay, guys, I've arrived here and I want to see who remembers this place. I used to catch many lambari here for my monster fish. Leticia also secretly filmed me here and forgot the trap in the water. When we returned, we were surprised.
Guys, I can't believe it. Check this out. I'm really shocked. My God, honey, what did you catch here that made such a huge hole? Someone got in here. My God, man, someone really, really big got in here, bro. I've even done several challenges here myself, like leaving the trap in the water for 24 hours to see what it would catch. And man, I caught a lot, but a lot of crazy creatures. Here, huge shrimp, really gigantic ones. And after I found out that this shrimp is invasive here in the region, and there are a lot, really a lot. There's just one little problem with catching lambari here. There's a bridge, but it wasn't like this before. Man, look at what happened. My God, man. It's all tied up.
There's even a bucket here. Look, and inside, check it out. There's a little net, a piece of bread to see if we can catch any fish here. But, man, I really wasn't expecting this one, man. What now?
Is it safe to cross here? Oh my God, man. What the Dude, the worst part is where I want to explore, I really have to cross this bridge, man. Well, here we go. If I fall in the water, I'm taking you guys with me. Whoa, it's creaking.
Oh, man.
Come on. Hold on, man. Seriously, if this thing breaks Now, the water comes right up to my chest. Man, it's really deep down here.
Whoa, whoa, I made it across. Haha. Oh my God, man. That was scary. Well, let's go.
It's a really cool place for us to check out. Look over there. How awesome. The water is totally crystal clear. Even though it has this tea color, it's really clear. You can see everything down at the bottom, and just look at how many logs are already down there, but I don't want to see those straight logs. I want some really twisted ones, some really cool ones. Whoa, I got to the spot I wanted to show you guys. What's behind me is the most impressive thing I've ever seen during these explorations. Look at this. It's a wall of forest, but when you go through it, look at this, man. You have no idea what the view from here is like, but hold on.
Let me get up there, man. Look at this stream. Look how beautiful it is. My God, man. It's crystal clear water. You can see everything down there, man. I thought this place was just 5 minutes from my house, but look how crazy it is.
But, of course, I can't deny that it's kind of scary, man, being here alone.
Well, let's get in the water. Look.
>> [music] >> What's here?
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Look, because I'm not going over there alone. No way, man. Let me come back here to this side. I think I'm going to need the help of a friend, man, to come here with me. I can't do it alone. No way, man. Look at this.
There's already a log here.
Look how cool this is. Check it out.
Look how crazy this is. Upside down, this would be a perfect hideout for a pleco or for the baby, right? Pterosaurs also love to stay under shelters like this.
Wow.
The problem is being here alone and hearing the noises in the woods.
Branches breaking. Not sure if someone's there.
Look, another cool log here, man.
Look at this.
This is awesome. Check it out.
This is crazy. Whoa, I found a really cool one here. Check this out. Oh my God, man. Whoa.
Oh, man. I'm stuck.
Dude, check this out, man.
Look how crazy this is. Whoa.
Whoa.
Look at this.
Dude, what an awesome log, man.
Look at this. I have to take this.
Whoa, I'm back, man.
I'm back here, man.
I was scared to go there, man. I'm too much of a coward for that, dude. I'm going to stay here where it's open, trying to catch some little fish. That's better for me. What? Who here wants me to go explore all that space over there and go way beyond deep inside? Go ahead and leave a like here and drop a comment. Say, "I want to see what's inside those bushes." Then I'll call some friends, and we'll go there together. Because alone, man. Man, I saw some objects there that I don't even know what they were or who they belonged to. My God. Well, now I have the challenge of crossing back through this.
My God, man.
And now, I'm carrying more weight, man.
Oh, it's cracking, dude.
My God, man.
Whoa.
Whoa. Whoa.
Wow.
Done.
Man, I really like this log a lot, dude.
It's really beautiful. This is going to look awesome in the aquarium, and the details on it, man, are amazing. Well, let's go. I want to see if I can catch a little fish here. Look, for that, my little net and this bait here are foolproof.
Bread, and look, it's really easy. Guys, I'm going to leave the pieces of bread here.
Put the little net underneath.
When a fish comes up to eat, I pull the net.
The little fish are already biting down here. You can feel them bumping against the little net.
Look at this. See the bread moving over there?
I got it, man.
Check this out. Amazing, right? It's a beautiful lamprey. Pretty cool, huh?
Go ahead. First lamprey.
One more.
And this one is smaller. Look at that.
Uh I caught a big one, man.
Dude, I threw a big piece over there.
Look at this.
Look at how many are over there.
You also have the small fish, the lampreys.
There are also bigger fish that eat the lampreys, right? Go ahead and leave a like down below, too. And leave a comment if you want me to come fishing here with a fishing rod to see what we can catch in this place. Well, maybe we could also catch that otter, right?
Are you crazy, man?
Well, there's plenty of food for her here. Let's go. I have to carry this log to the car. Let's go. Back to the recording studio. What an adventure here. Well, it made me a little scared.
>> [music] >> Wow, the next day the new log is already right here. Look, check it out, man.
That's awesome. And I really can't wait for this log to be inside the giant aquarium over there in that space.
And you guys are going to get a new and much bigger home. The discus, they're doing great, but I want to show you something. I like to come here to the window and watch the fish from here.
Because look at this. Here I can see some of their behaviors that they don't show when I'm around. The scorpion's eating down at the bottom. Then Sub-Zero goes down near them. He goes there to fight.
Look at this. Look at this. Then he pushes the others away. It's just him and Sub-Zero, man. Could they be a couple, man?
Although they're making out there, right? Look, only the two of them can stay together.
Look at this.
Everyone else leaves.
And then they start pecking at each other over there. Man, they really act differently when I'm around, but they're amazing, man. And another amazing thing here is that look, Marty, my zebra catfish, he's eating fillet. Come on, Marty.
Show everyone. Whoa, he got it. That's it, man. And he's a very rare fish that I have here. He wouldn't eat anything except live food. He'd occasionally grab some pellets by surprise, but usually spit them out. Seeing Marty eat fillet pieces now puts me at ease. Feeding him is much easier. Go on.
Hey, man. The baby box puffer is eating well here. Check it out.
And wow.
Go on. Eat some more. That's it, little guy. Hurry up and turn into a giant monster fish, okay? And let me do a test here. Look.
Hey there.
My God, man. Don't call me crazy, okay?
Well, guys, let's go. You've been asking me a lot about how the baby's brother, Bob, is doing. Well, the baby's right here. Look. He keeps growing more every day. He's really gone into full growth mode. Bob, the baby's brother, is right here. Look. I keep this aquarium with the glass really dark like this so he can stay calmer. Look at him back there.
See? Well, he feels better. He feels calmer, and then he really eats better.
Because, man, they were both the same size, and the baby, I don't know what happened, man. He started growing faster while Bob lagged, leading to a fight.
So, I separated them. Now, Bob is eating better and growing more. So, I'm going to do a test. I'll put Bob back in there again to see if now that they're the same size, they get along, or if I'll need to make a house just for Bob. Well, here. Percy Jackson is still digesting the jaconda. Look, his belly is still full, but he's already getting hungrier, man. Today, in a little while, I'm heading out. I'll be away for 2 days. I have a lot of work to do here in my recording studio, and I hope that in the next video, if I manage to get the giant aquarium that's going to be there, man, this log is really going to look amazing inside it.
I'm really looking forward to it. Well, but I need to get everything ready here.
I need to travel and to keep up with all the crazy things that happen around here to find out if everything went well when I got back from the trip. I hope so, since I've had surprises before. Do you know what to do now?
Click on this little button right here on the side for you to subscribe, if you're not subscribed to my channel yet.
And I'll see you in the next video with another adventure. And thanks for joining me. I ask God to bless each one of you, and remember, do crazy things.
I'm Davie Spices.
