NHL teams often wait until the off-season rather than the trade deadline to execute trades for veteran players, as the rising salary cap and increased competition for talent can yield better returns; for example, the New York Rangers may trade Vincent Trocheck (a two-way center with 53 points in 67 games, Olympic gold medalist, and $5.6 million cap hit) for young assets like Michael Brandsegg-Nygård (20-year-old center with 30 points in 82 games) or other prospects, as teams scramble to address roster needs and the rising cap creates opportunities for better deals.

We're in for something huge...Added:
We are in for something huge. And it's not necessarily a good thing as the rumors surrounding Vincent Trochek have not quieted down at all as far as linking him now to another Eastern Conference team this summer. And Chris Jury is ready to pull the trigger this summer on trading the veteran. We're going to break down exactly why and what this looks like moving forward for this Rangers team as it has major implications on the draft and vice versa. We're going to break down exactly what all of this means and more in this episode of Rangers Digest. But before we dive into all of that, a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. We've noticed that about 68% of you guys who watch these videos are not subscribed to the channel. And if you're over on Facebook, hit that free follow button and the sport over there has been unbelievable. You won't miss a single thing to do with the Rangers. But let's get right into it. Obviously, rumors, reports flying around and people are talking about, when I say people, insiders are talking about Vincent Chrochek and the likelihood of him returning as a Ranger. And apparently, it's not good. And you can see this from NHL trade rumors. Again, this is just trade rumors, but some insiders have floated out this idea. and Troche was linked to the Detroit Red Wings in at the trade deadline. Now, do I love it?
Do I want to trade Vincent Troche? Not necessarily. I think it could make some sense. We're going to get into it obviously in this video and the specifics of it, but Steve Eerman has revealed that he wants to make a big splash. He's not coming back with the same roster for the Red Wings next season. And I feel like Chris Jury could potentially take advantage of that situation, much like, you know, the Brady Kachchuck situation that we were talking about yesterday as well. But before we dive too deep into that and what the return could be, I do want to let you guys know that this video is brought to you by Prize Pix. And Price Pix is America's number one sports pick app that brings you closer to all the action. We're going to have some crazy picks and some promotions later in the video for you guys. And all new users get $50 in their lineups instantly when you play your first $5. So, thank you once again to Prize Pix for sponsoring the video. But let's get into some interesting quotes here from Vince McGloano. And he said, "I can tell you they believe that they're going to be able to get more for Troche this summer." And of course, we've talked about this before, uh, than they would have at the trade deadline with the rising cap, the fact that he makes just over $5 million. He has term on his contract. He's a very attractive player in all facets, right? His cap hit, what he can do on the ice, great two-way player, he can help you get over the hump, all these things. He's a playoff performer, all of these intangibles, right? So, he's fantastic, of course.
And the Rangers have made a calculated gamble. they'll have a better chance of getting what they want during the off season. So, it sounds like Chris J pulled out because he wanted to do the trade. We know that Emily Kaplan was basically saying at the trade deadline, it was done. He was a Minnesota Wild. He was taking pictures with Bill Garren at the Olympics for crying out loud. But, uh, it ultimately didn't happen because he took the gamble that he's going to be able to get a better return this off seasonason. A lot of GMs are going to be scrambling. They're going to be panicking. And, uh, it sounds like Chris Sherry still wants to pull off this move. He wants to continue to get younger. Now, I don't necessarily believe in Chris Jury. I don't know if he can get this done. I don't know if I have faith in this GM to do anything with the cap space that they've done.
Obviously, they made one move and Vlad Slav Gyver and I think that was a good move with that salary cap space, but uh now it sounds like he's quite disgruntled with where this team's going as well. And if you trade a guy like Vincent Troche, man, you're getting younger, you're getting more inexperienced. Not that you should cater to what one guy thinks anyway. But anyway, guys, he's an NHL ready player, of course, with upside as a centerpiece of a deal and a centerpiece on any line that he's playing on. And, you know, he's a great two-way player. Now, you can see this as well. Um, you know, Phil Kosher is putting out there that you should take a look. Let's talk about the return at this point if it is the Detroit Red Wings cuz guys, make no mistake about it. Chris Jury, he's he's insane. We know this. Like, he doesn't make any moves that we're all going to agree with, right? Like I think this could get done this summer. There's a lot of teams that are going to be panicking and I think Steve Eisermanman is going to be panicking because he basically said I got to make a big splash this year or this is a failure. He's basically said that. So Chris Jer I think wants to wants to get this done for whatever reason. But well, we know what reason.
Phil brings up MBN Michael Branzeg Nygard and I think that he is a great young player and they have a lot of really good young players that I want to get to as well. But you take a look at his stats. You take a look at the salary cap. He had a pretty solid year in the AHL. He's still in his ELC. A lot of the guys we're going to be talking about are still in their ELC. So, nothing crazy there. It is expiring soon. He has NHL experience as well, which I want to get into because he can definitely help you on uh, you know, the offensive side of the puck. He's had a pretty good uh, you know, again, he's not going to be a top six player or anything right out of the gate, but you know, he's continuing his development. He had a pretty good year in the AHL. He has some NHL experience.
He only has one point and and it was an assist uh, in that time, but the Red Wings were abysmal five on five. So, um, you know, take that for what you will.
Vincent Troche on the other hand fantastic season of course great two-way player 53 points in 67 games was dealing with a lung infection to start the year all these different things an Olympic gold medal we know what he brings to the table great faceoff guy obviously a lot of teams are going to be wanting his services this summer and again with the cap going up it's going to be interesting to see what teams would give up you can see here obviously Vincent $5.6 $6 million. Uh, great player still entering his mid30s. He's going to be 33. Uh, and again, a lot of teams want this guy's services. All of these stats, all the contract information, by the way, you can find at digestports.com, guys. Uh, you can find the link to that in the description as well. But, uh, I think it's going to be interesting. And again, a lot of the guys that, you know, I'm mentioning here, EMTT Finny, great young player for the Detroit Red Wings, also still on his ELC, also has NHL experience. Did play in the NHL this year and put up pretty good numbers actually. Uh, spent some time playing center as well. Not great in the faceoff dot, but he just did what they needed him to do, which was fill in for the time. And he had 30 points in 82 games.
Uh, only 20 years old. Like, he put together a very good season. This would be a piece like I think you could at least ask for this in a return for Vincent Trok. Do they actually do it? I don't know. They might get desperate. Uh and they know that they need more centers. So, it's going to be interesting. I think it is definitely a fit. We were talking about it around the trade deadline. They were involved. The Wild were involved. I think the Wild might be out of that at this point in this off season. Some new suitors might emerge, right? So, it's going to be interesting. One other player I wanted to mention from the Red Wings, too, is Marco Casper. He had a great season as well. A lot of people are very high on him. Uh and again, a return for Vincent Troche will be astronomical. The price that Minnesota was even getting ready to pay, a lot of people I saw out there were saying that there's no way Vincent Troche is going to get a return like that. They were willing to pay uh you know, three assets, three top assets.
Now, the Rangers wanted one more top asset out of them, but I think that they can get that this off season with a lot of teams panicking. A lot of teams need center depth, center help, and you know, obviously Vincent Trochek only makes $5.2 million. So, I think it just makes sense at this point. We'll see what happens ultimately, you know, heading into the off season. Last thing I wanted to mention, too, this uh brand new article from Vince McGuano this morning.
He said it's unclear whether the Rangers would be willing to trust either Yorio or Morrow, both of whom will be RFA seeking new contracts in the third pairing spot. So, chances are competition will be brought in via trade or free agency. So, the guy that they traded KA Andre Miller for, all of a sudden they don't trust him. And I was talking about this a couple weeks ago.
That is that is it's unfortunate. It's just unfortunate. So, that is what it is. But guys, before I wrap up here, I do want to let you know that this video is sponsored by Prize Pix. Prize Pix is America's number one sports pick app, and it gets you closer to all the action. They have some great promotions going on right now. Make sure to download the app and use promo code digest. Very special thank you to Prize Pix for sponsoring the video once again. But let me know what you think the future holds for Vincent Troche. I think Chris Jury is a bit of an insane person uh and is just doing things to do things at this point. So, uh I would imagine that they're going to look at trading Troche. Now, is it before the draft? Is it around the draft? Is it after the draft? I think it's probably after the draft. I think a lot of this relies on who they're picking with their pick and where they're picking with their pick. We still have to go through the draft lottery. So, it'll be uh very interesting to keep tabs on that. Let me know how you feel in the comments below on Vincent Troche. And I feel like uh you know if I was to guess I don't think he is going to be a Ranger next season cuz again Chris Jury flying by the seat of his pants. He's a bit insane and just likes to make moves for the sake of making moves.
