Heat index combines actual temperature with humidity to measure how hot it feels, with today's forecast showing a thermometer high of 97°F but a heat index of 107°F, making the worst hours 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. Weather forecasting involves tracking multiple factors including temperature, humidity, wind speed, and pressure to predict conditions like the developing Tropical Depression Two that could become Tropical Storm Bertha, which may affect coastal areas with rain and wind.

Scotty Ray Report 7-20- 26
Added:and good Monday morning. I'm your friend Scotty Ray. It's already July the 20th.
Discussing here theme songs of old old TV shows. For some reason, I keep hearing the Wild Wild West theme song in my head. It's stuck and OD's not helping the matter any there. [laughter] Good morning to everyone. As we wake up, we're sitting at 75 now. It's going to be hot. When I say hot, it will be 75 is what we'll see on the thermometer today.
We will dip high of 97 with a heat index of 107.
That's right, 107 today is what we're expecting. So, make plans for that. The worst time of the day will be 11:00 a.m. and through about 7:00 p.m. So, as the the the the later the day gets at 11, we'll be hitting right at 100. And when you get past 121, it will be 103, 104, and so forth through about 700 p.m. tonight before it starts gradually going back down. Make your plans and just uh be well aware of how hot it will be before the day is uh out there. Daylight is breaking. It is looking good. As we look at the the times, we'll get into those fishing times in a little bit, but your daylight hours are changing shorter in the day, longer before it gets daylight.
Look at all of that. It'll be changing before long.
I doubt I doubt that ever happens if they'll pass daylight saving times. I think they're going to talk about it, but it will never come through.
>> House did pass it, but it's in the Senate.
>> Senate.
>> They they can't hear you there, Otis.
But they but they can't. Uh we'll get into it this morning during the the morning show. But uh my vote right now, I'm not sure it'll happen, but we'll get more into it beginning at 7 talking about that. What happens with it right now? Let's go out to Collinsville. Let's get something going on with the church.
Woo. Somebody get some clapping going.
[music] Imagine you're a kid again. You spent all year begging your parents, your grandparents, Santa Claus, whoever to get you that that Razer scooter, that Nintendo Switch, that new book for Christmas. 365 days come and go.
Christmas arrives and you finally get the gift you've been waiting for all year. All that time you were anticipating this new gift. The buildup and the suspense nearly killing you. And now you have it. But imagine with me, it's now two weeks post Christmas and you're already thinking of what you want for next Christmas. Well, of course, this two-week old gift is out of date.
You want the Razer Scooter with the added Spark Bar, the updated Nintendo Switch, the next book in the series.
It's crazy how anticipation and desire often outweighs and even takes control over contentment. Listen to the words of Paul the Apostle in 1 Timothy 6 6-8.
Now, godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. and having food and clothing. With these we shall be content. Paul obviously thought that contentment is a big deal for the Christian. He expounded on contentment in Philippians 4 leading to the famous verse, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Paul's talking about contentment. It's Christ who strengthens him, not his worldly possessions. And so if Christ is Paul's strength, then he can do anything. He can withstand any trial. He can live with food and the clothes on his back and be just fine. As he says here in 1 Timothy 6, it's hard to be content in a in a time where resources are abundant.
But Christian, to pursue godliness through contentment is great gain. Let Christ Jesus be the sole desire of your heart. He's the only thing that will last forever. Paul says that we brought nothing into this world and we will carry nothing out. Job, the man of God, says that we come into this world naked and we will go into the earth naked. The Razer scooter won't last. The Nintendo Switch, it will break down. The book will end. But Christ, our true source of contentment, will last forever. So be content with him. Change begins in you.
>> The change begins in you is brought to you in part by >> always a great message that we get from Collins. Hope you enjoyed that. As we said, today is Monday morning. We're back to the uh the work week, July the 20th, as we wait for a high of 97, heat index 107. And we'll get into the weather forecast here in just a little bit to discuss possibly having Bertha in the next little bit. We're in a tropical storm two is what it's called now.
Tropical depression.
It's known as two, which could be turning into a little bit more being named Bertha. We'll find out about that later today, but we'll give you the latest that we've got on this as this develops this morning, where it will be, what it will do. We've got all that coming up. We're what, eight nights now into each night, flying over a little place called Iran, and it's been happening. The US has been targeting their facilities night after night after two of our US servicemen were killed. Another one was missing. As of now, I don't know if they have found that person or not. Since then, they Iran carried out a uh an attack on Friday in the Jordan area. Killed two of our soldiers, injured some, and we did have one missing. Since then, the United States has retaliated with bombardments each night, taking out this, that, and the other. It is very, very hard to deal with people that have no reasoning.
How many times have we gone to the table now for negotiations?
They don't understand it, nor do they want it. There's only one way to deal with people like that, and we're [clears throat] seeing that action at this point, although I'm not sure that it's enough yet.
Selected targets take care of it.
Mortgage rates are hitting an all-time high since the war with Iran began. So, expect that if you're getting ready to buy, build, the 30-year six, uh 30-year fixed mortgage rate has climbed to 6.55 is where it is. If you're out there borrowing money, that makes a difference.
So, uh expect that. In some cases, it does not affect housing at all. People keep continue buying and it may not.
As we look at all this that's going on uh with what's happening with Iran, they issued a statement. This should be known. If you've got an appointment, business meeting or whatever the case may be in another country, you might want to just think on this for a little while. The State Department warns Americans flights may be cancelled amid escalating Iran conflict as it issues a worldwide travel caution.
Again, I realize that people sometimes have to travel out of the country for meetings here, there, and for business.
Just be aware of what's going on. We would hate for you to get somewhere and you you can't leave.
That'd be kind of horrible.
Can you imagine being stuck in California, LA, for a week?
That's That's kind of like for me being out of the country, going past that Mason Dixon line.
Let's see what else we got going on. We We've got a couple political things that are going on across the country. First, we start at Wisconsin. The lieutenant governor, Sarah Rodriguez, is dropping out of the governor's race.
You think, well, she's losing. Well, that's not exactly what she would if she stayed, but she sees the writing on the wall when there's campaign finances that you can't explain.
Her statement was it would cast a shadow over the campaign. In other words, it's over. She's stepping down amid that.
Someone spent money to where it shouldn't have happened. What else we have here? Let's go to uh I don't know how this will shape up. She's trying to to drop out. Nebraska in the Senate race. Uh a Democrat is trying to drop out of the race. Uh Cindy Burbank is her name. And what that would do is line a Republican up with an independent. If she stays in the race, then the vote is kind of split between her and the independent, probably helping the Republican, but if she drops out, it would give a boost.
They have not said because there's so many days within that you can drop out of a race. We don't know if she'll be able to do that or not. She also sees that there's no wind to victory no matter what she does is the only reason that is happening. Now we saw the appointment as we still in this political trend this morning uh where Lindsey Graham ultimately passed away unexpectedly. His sister was asked to fill in in his vacancy until the end of his term. It is now being urged that Darlin become the next one that she run for his office. What do y'all think?
I don't really know anything about her.
Maybe she's tough. Maybe she's not.
There's a lot of people that would like to have the power that Lindsey Graham, although he was a fence rider and went whichever way the wind blowed to make himself look better, he had power. We'll see what happens with that. Uh, I found this interesting. AAA, let me show this here. Gas prices across the US. What does this mean here?
Uh, the blue as we look at Mississippi averaging $357 a gallon. Um, as we look at Alabama, 363, Georgia 376. The blue is a little bit cheaper.
This dark blue here is cheaper than the rest. You get into the light blue here, like in Georgia at 376 a gallon, 367 in the Carolinas. And we get down to Florida and it's 393, just under $4.
Now, dare we go up to the red and touch what's happening here? Illinois, $4.15 a gallon on average. as we get into Pennsylvania 419 and 414 in New York.
Let's go to the West Coast to see what's happening there. Nevada, uh, Arizona rather, 427. California, oh my heavens.
Now, I haven't bought I hadn't been to California many, many years. Five $549 a gallon. As you get into Nevada, $462, Oregon 455 and Washington 501.
See, the whitest should be a little bit cheaper. 398, New Mexico, Colorado 395.
And there you go. That gives you an outlook of what's going on across the US as aa has put that out. So, the deep south a little bit uh cheaper than everyone else or is for now.
The more we have uh the conflict, the higher this stuff goes. You can mention um gas and they run and hike the price up. I'm not hiding anything from you, but if you're traveling across the US, there you go. Um, nursing homes, Minnesota is going to be doing this.
Matter of fact, it was signed into law.
I don't really have an opinion on it.
I'll just tell you what it says. Uh, Governor Tim Waltz, who has a nickname, which I won't say out loud. You can Google that. Trump named him a good one.
grandparents.
It's called the grandparents happy hour bill.
This will allow nursing homes to serve liquor to nursing homes. Get them all sloshed up and roll them back to the room. That's that's what's happening in Minnesota. And again, that's the happy hour, grandparents happy hour bill. It's passed into law. assisted living facilities, all these areas can give alcohol. Now, again, I I don't I don't have an opinion on that. I guess there's some folks that would love that. Let's see here.
This one caught me off. True Social will sell Wall Street firms the fastest exact access to Trump's post. I didn't know that you could uh there was a delay in all of that. Truth Social, apparently, you can pay a little bit and get his tweets faster than anybody else. I didn't know that. I got to say clever.
He's He's like that little entourepreneur with the lemonade stand who's outd doing the other kid down the block. Always thinking, I just didn't know that.
>> Yeah, he's bought them out.
Now, this guy, I I found this on uh X and he makes a good point.
Now, there's many of you that we have a very diverse audience. Whether you're Republican, you're independent, or you're Democrat. We try to really tell it just how it is down the middle, one way or the other with my stance is it's right or wrong. You take it however you want to. This guy named Tony posted on to X and he said, "A lot of people dislike Trump." He used a different word for it. He goes, "That's fine, but if you're watching a news network that refuses to air the president of the United States, they're not giving you a chance to think for yourself. They're telling you what to think.
Something to think on, is it?" And what he's referring to is NBC and ABC the other night would not carry, and I was busy. I didn't get to see it regardless online, but they refused to carry his speech that he made the other night about the elections.
So be it.
just thought you might want to know that uh the first of its kind has been approved cholesterol pill and this is also if the folks that are taking the shot that uh do that it helps cholesterol and it has been known to help people with weight they have now come out with a peel to where you don't have to take the shot or people like me who are scared needles I mean I'll take them when necessary they just don't feel good do they just bend over, put your pants down, and >> they always get you there when you got that cold. And at that point, you don't feel good anyway. Go ahead and stick me.
>> But uh and it it takes a break. And there are many many of you watching right now that have no problem whether it's uh for high blood that have to take shots and give it to themselves, insulin shots, these types of shots. It's just hard for me to know where to stick myself.
>> Yes. Any sticking being done? My wife has to come help me because I I don't know what I'm doing. Let's see here.
Boy, California in the forest.
This is one of those.
>> Do some studying if you're a criminal.
Why would you hold the US Forest Service hostage? I mean, what are they going to do for you? That happened in a forest this weekend there. The two US Forest Service workers are safe now. They got freed Friday after being held for hours by an armed man in Northern California in the forest. Happened at 11:00. It'd be late until Friday afternoon before they got away. Why? It's not like they can bring you a helicopter and a bunch of fuel to fly away.
We'll leave it at that. Now, I don't know as much of this as as I should.
We're just going to tell you and all of this is is is alleged at this point as to what's going on. Uh Tulsi uh am I pronouncing her name right? Tulsi Tulsi Gabbert. You remember her? She was uh from Hawaii. Her brother has been arrested on charges. Now again, charges are charges. It doesn't mean you're guilty of anything, but he's 55 years old. He's accused of approaching several children, including a 9-year-old boy near the pool at a hotel in Walke and offering them gum if they would come into his room.
Did someone make this bigger than it? I don't know. He was arrested. It doesn't mean that he's done anything wrong. An investigation will be launched into that.
Doesn't sound good at all, does it? But we'll we'll hopefully get to the bottom of that and find out more about that.
Uh I Whoa. uh a uh US boxer, Hannah, and I was trying to make sure I understood this right. Hannah Rap uh she has she's 26 years old. She was a boxer and she is now deceased.
She was in Texas riding a bicycle. A car passes, puts it in reverse, and backs over. Stop, back over. Bless it. I don't know if that was intentional or it was accident. Some sort of a way. pray for her family. That's just definitely not good.
This is horrible. Uh occasionally we hear things like this happening. New York City, a sightseeing chopper. Now, I' I've never paid to go do that. I know that if you go to the Grand Canyon, you can pay extra and fly down in a helicopter into the Grand Canyon. Uh you can do it around New York City, also pay more. We had a sightseeing chopper crash into the Hudson River. They're saying that it likely hit birds. This happened last year. Now, the investigation after they've done all of this, it most likely uh hit uh hit birds and what caused it.
Six people died in that deal. Remember when that happened? It was last year.
Uh April of 25 is when that happened. A horrible uh and again those helicopters when they go down, they go down. They don't glide like an airplane. But now they know as to what caused it.
You know, I often um what what is the word I'm looking for?
When I'm against frivolous lawsuits, but there's also a time when someone has to do their job and do their job correctly.
You can't halfway do your job and then expect not to have repercussions if you don't do it correctly. Everybody with me on that?
New York City.
I a matter of fact, I made a call about one of these. I don't know how it happened in the meridian area. I was walking to my car and I noticed oh uncovered manhole. This happened in New York and a lady lost her life. They were now suing New York City over it. She fell in it for whatever reason. She wasn't watching where she was going and the manhole cover was either missing or gone altogether. She fell down and lost her life.
Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Watch where you're walking is at the end of the day. And we're all everybody is guilty of you get a message and I've been guilty of uh standing on a street corner typing something out not paying attention to anything around you. We've all been guilty. We're not we're not innocent. But uh watch where you can what you're doing no matter what. We'll be right back with that weather forecast as we get this morning moving.
>> We chose to use Environment Masters for our maintenance needs. So um I get the phone calls. It's time for your you know checkup. We want to schedule you. I appreciate that. That's really helpful.

Welcome back. I'm your friend Scotty Ray. As we get this morning going under, let's take a look at those record highs and lows back in 2000. Here we go. Here we are. It was 104 today. Our record low was set in 09. That was back in 59.
That's when that it was actually 59 in 2009. That was our record low. I think I said that backwards there. So, as we look about, this is what we've got going on today. We'll reach 97 on the thermometer. Highs in Columbus should reach about 96. And we'll see the same there as we get to tunic of those areas in the northwest side of the state down the river about the same. And we'll even see 96 in Gulfport. Wow. As we look to tonight, 76 is the best we'll get. Just a couple of degrees difference on the Mississippi Gulf Coast at 78. We'll see that also in the northern half of the state. Over in Bama today, we'll see 94.
A little bit cooler there. And we'll see that all the way over to Birmingham.
Tuscaloosa coming in a little bit warmer. Selma at 95 and 96 there in Montgomery. Here's what we got today with this heat stress.
Meridian, we should reach between 105 and 110. But look at this in the Mississippi Delta, Greenwood, Greenville, 115 possible today. Now we're tapping right now. Prediction of about 107 here.
Not quite making it to the 110, but 107 is what we're seeing for today. Now, gets a little worse for tomorrow. Look at this. Somewhere around Brandon, these areas west taking in Vixsburg, Brook Haven, and Greenwood, all of the Delta area down to Hattisburg. Tomorrow, we'll reach that 115. The Meridian area still hanging in there in the east side of the state. Newton, Scott County is all at 105 to 110. Woof. It's going to be warm this week as we get into these high temperatures. That's what we got here.
Look at this coming from West Texas.
It'll be here before you know it as we look at our temps today. 97 for a high.
20% chance of an afternoon and I think they're going to bump that to a 30% before this is over. As we look at our forecast, 10% chance of rain moving in, partly cloudy there for tomorrow, 10% all week long. It'll be Saturday roughly they're saying before we really get showers. Now, the unknown thing right along in here, should the forecast change with the upcoming tropical storm that is developing there? Tropical depression as it reaches the coast.
Right now, we'll look at that in a moment on radar. A 30% chance on Sunday with highs cooling off a little bit into the lower 90s as we look all the way through August the 3. Here's what we've got. By the 31st, we're looking at 104, 105 on the 1st of August. Woof. We got some hot days ahead of us as we head toward that.
Here's what we've got going on when it comes to our best times to fish today.
Calm wind east northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Major times to fish uh ends in about 3 minutes. And then we've got another good time this afternoon beginning at 5 until about 700 p.m. A minor time at lunch 11:30 to 12:30.
Sunrise at 6:01. Sunset has dropped about 4 minutes. We we actually had made it to 8:05. We've lost 5 minutes of daylight. Sunset is now down to 8:00 p.m. Now, let's go to radar and take a look at what we've got going on this morning. Live radar as we look at what's going on with this tropical depression.
It's sitting here as of 4:00 a.m. this morning. U as we see that it's a wind speed of 35 mph, gust of 40 m an hour.
Pressure is at 1,07 millibars moving northwest at 3 m an hour. This will be updated here in just a little bit. We'll be getting a new update. And if you'll see here, if we watch this storm as it nears Mississippi, Alabama there, Pensacola, Florida there on Wednesday.
And by Wednesday at 1:00 will be dead center with Beluxy, but do south of the coastline. And it will move in most likely making landfall here in Louisiana. If you'll look at this, this part, let me turn this on where we can see at this point.
as we see this Hopedale, Louisiana is where most likely this will make inland and come across and make its way toward Morian City. Now again, uh we're looking at a tropical depression this morning.
This could upgrade to Bertha is what we're expecting. But again, if you'll see here, this doesn't come inland. It looks like the cone will end somewhere right around Hattisburg and the Meridian area, Clark County, Wayne County would get minimal rain out of this is what is being projected at this point. If this shifts further north, it would include the Meridian area, but right now we're all good in the Meridian area. Now, if you're planning a beach trip this week, it's going to be wet all along here.
Pensacola, if you're going to uh anywhere here around Mobile, Gulf Shores, Alabama, if you're headed in these directions here, it's it could get messy down here. Orange Beach is going to be wet as well. So, plan your trip.
If you're going out of town, just know what to expect. Plenty of rain in these areas. Uh, as we look at the marine area, we got showers this morning popping up here from Tumsuba. We had a pretty good storm in Kim County earlier.
It flooded up through here. It's light rain now moving through Geer as You'll see that right there. Highway 17, Gainesville getting showers this morning. We allow a lot of fog around Selma this morning, Uniontown, Alabama is what we're looking at. So, those areas, be careful. We'll be right back as we'll get the morning show underway beginning at 7:00. Won't you join us?
Look forward to seeing you in just a moment as we'll get the morning show underway.
