Hathaway’s project provides a sharp reality check by exposing the vast chasm between aestheticized digital nostalgia and the brutal historical realities women actually endured. It is a necessary deconstruction of a performative movement that romanticizes a past it fundamentally misunderstands.

Anne Hathaway Is Going After Trad Wives... (Clip)Added:
Anne Hathaway is going to be making a new movie. I believe she actually bought the rights to this book. And if it's not girl bosses and remakes and reboots, it is Hollywood telling you, "Guys, we don't like you and we don't like a lot of what you stand for." And I think this movie could be another one of those times where Hollywood does exactly that.
I'm going to show you some of the uh the premise here. Now, this is an AI recreation of, I guess, what possibly could be featured in this movie, but it says, "Anne Hathaway bought the rights to a novel about a tradife influencer who wakes up in 1855 and has to actually live the life that she's been selling online." Now, this book is called Yestery Year. I believe it came out this year. So, she became aware of this book, I think, immediately bought the rights before the book was even out, and they got started on making this film. I'm going to read you some of the summary of this film so we can get into the ideas that are going to be shared. And already I'm thinking of a sort of Olivia Wild Don't Worry Darling where we're doing this play on Tradifery and uh in that film they wanted to call out figures like Jordan Peterson and these individuals who are telling you to live a more traditional life or at the very least saying they were living a more traditional life. So it says here Natalie lives a traditional lifestyle.
Her charming farmhouse is rustic. Her husband and a handsome a handsome cowboy. Her six children each more delightful than the last. So what if there are nannies and producers behind the scenes? Her kitchen hiding industrial-grade fridges and ovens. Her husband the Republican equivalent of a Kennedy. What Natalie's followers, all 8 million of them don't know won't hurt them. And the angry women, the privileged Ivy League coastal elite haters who call her an anti-feminist iconoclast, they're stick with jealousy because Natalie isn't simply living the good life. She's living the ideal and it just so happens to be building an empire from it. Now, this is clearly, I think, a call back to none other than Hannah Neilman of Ballerina Farm, which we'll get into when I'll show you a little bit of what she creates online. And she is deemed the internet's t wife. Now, the summary goes on to say, "Until one morning, she wakes up in a life that isn't hers. Her home, her husband, her children, they're all familiar, but something's off. Her kitchen is warmed by a sputtering fire rather than electricity. Her children are dirty and strange, and her soft-handed husband is suddenly a competent farmer. Just yesterday, Natalie was curating photos of homemade jam for her Instagram. Now, she's expected to haul firewood and handwash clothes until her fingers bleed. Has she become the unwitting star of a brutal reality show? Could it really be time travel? Is she being tested by God, by Satan? When Natalie suffers a brutal injury in the woods, she realizes two things. This is not her beautiful life, and she must escape by any means possible. So, of course, the premise is we have these proud wives who are putting their lives online. They have, you know, tons of kids, maybe a homestead, and they're promoting this lifestyle that is being posted as a sort of easier viewing than what it actually is. And what if these trades were actually transported into a time of real tread rifle in the 1800s? And how can they be confronted with the reality of what they're actually promoting online?
Now, there's been articles written on this, like in Harper's Bazaar. They say, "Why yester year feels relevant right now? What makes yestery year stand out is how closely it feels to what we see online today. The whole tra traditional lifestyle or tradife aesthetic has become popular again, but mostly in a very curated filtered way. This story removes that filter completely. It takes someone who built a life around that idea and puts her in a version of it that she cannot control or romanticize.
And I'm just like, I don't why do people why do people care so much? I think this movie has the potential to be a really interesting uh tale, a really interesting thing to think about. What if this did happen to somebody? How would they take it? You know, what is going to be the plot twist? Because this is going to be somewhat of a psychological thriller, I believe. But I just have a feeling because of what we've seen with Hollywood recently that this is going to be a means of of placing judgment on women who happen to subscribe to this particular lifestyle or who happen to want a life that looks like that of Hannah Neilman's or at the very least want to be traditional in some sense. And I think we have to acknowledge that those women are not advocating for an 1800's lifestyle.
They're just saying, "I want a husband.
I want to take care of the home. I want to take care of my kids. Maybe we have some animals and and a farm and that's what we're doing. And so very few women in reality are are living what we would view to be a tradife lifestyle. Not even Hannah Neilman herself is doing that considering she's the CEO of a what multi-million dollar business that she's running day in and day out with her multiple children with her farm. And I'll show you some of her content just so we can sort of lay the groundwork for how much this movie and this book is clearly about her.
>> This is her creating >> sure >> stuff uh prior to being postpartum I believe.
>> So here's her farm and her kids.
She is married to an extremely wealthy man who I guess whose family is in the airline business. So you can sort of hear all these things in the summary that I just gave you of this book and of this movie. And given Anne Hathaway's politics, I have a feeling we're just going to get a how can we shed on trades moment rather than an actual like interesting conversation about what something like this could look like and what these women are posting online and what they're saying when they post things online. So that's really unfortunate. And Hannah Neilman, I think, is constantly under fire for her lifestyle because she lives a lifestyle that particularly pisses people off, even though she's sort of just staying in her own lane, running her business, and doing her own thing. This really, really gets to people. So, I'm not at all surprised that Hollywood is taking the opportunity to do this yestery year film and to sort of come after the idea of uh what a trad wife is and what she would do in the reality of what she's actually advocating for even though we know that's not what trades are actually advocating for. And I won't spoil what what is supposedly the ending of this book/mov, but just know it seems like another one of those. If you subscribe to this idea, I want to burst your bubble a little bit. And I'm using Hollywood and entertainment as a vessel to do exactly that. And I wonder what other political agenda pieces will be present in this film, but I have a feeling there will be quite a few.
I don't know that I'll watch it. We'll see. We'll see. It should be out very soon cuz they're really turning this stuff out recently. At least this is an original uh bit of work, an original adaptation of something very recently written.
