Iron Lung is a 2026 indie horror film directed by and starring Markiplier (Mark Fischbach), adapting David Szymanski's game about a convict who descends into a blood ocean on a moon to retrieve a black box. The film exemplifies cosmic horror through its claustrophobic submarine setting, mysterious blood ocean environment, and incomprehensible cosmic entities. The movie explores themes of sacrifice, redemption, and humanity's confrontation with forces beyond understanding, featuring practical effects, atmospheric sound design, and a deliberate pacing that creates tension through resource management and environmental hazards. The narrative follows Simon, a convict who must navigate the blood ocean while confronting creatures and uncovering the truth about the 'Quiet Rapture' event that destroyed humanity's civilization.

IRON LUNG (2026) MOVIE REACTION - MARKIPLIER DELIVERS A WTF COSMIC HORROR?!Added:
I don't know what you're seeing. It's like a tentacle. Is this like some Lovecraftian [ __ ] >> Yeah, this feels like limited space cosmic horror. Yeah, >> that's communicating to him. This changes everything. This video is sponsored by DC Studios Showcase, the official podcast. More on them very soon.
What is going on there people? We're here to watch Iron Lung.
from the renowned legend Markiplier.
People sometimes say I look like a discount version of him. Hey, we have Markiplier at home. I'll take a discount Markiplier compliment any day of the week. John, how are you feeling?
>> I'm good. Discount Jesus is good. I'm excited for Marcus Pliers and this new wave of of YouTuber movies. My first YouTuber movie.
>> Wow. Yeah. You haven't seen Shelby Oaks yet, right?
>> Shelby Oaks, Talk to Me, Obsession, Back Rooms. I ain't seen none of this. Wow.
Oh, well, people have been really enjoying this one. I've been I've been looking forward to this one quite a bit.
>> Yeah. How are you? You just got back from a Spartan race.
>> I just got back from a Spartan race. I inhald a lot of dirt, a little bit of mud cuz you go underwater and mud water, but I plays pretty good actually. Pretty proud of myself on it. But I am very exhausted. At the same time, very much looking forward to watching this movie right now, though. This >> coughing up a dirt lung.
>> Yeah, it does kind of feel that way right now. Anyway, man, I'm ready to do it. You ready to do it? I'm ready to do it. Let's dive in.
>> The stars are gone. The planets have disappeared.
>> Like Peter Cullen.
>> Sure.
>> There were barely enough of us left to give the end a name. The quiet rapture.
>> Ooh.
Cool. I don't know anything about the Iron Long game at all. Infrastructure crumbles. Too few to rebuild, too many to feed.
>> I tell you now that there is more to these moons than meets the eye. The consolidation.
>> Transformers.
>> They hide their technology, their people. Tell you what they found, but I will.
>> It's an ocean of blood.
>> One moon stands apart from the rest. And in the darkness of the moon, >> an ocean of blood.
>> Cool. Is that like ripped from the game?
>> Submerging into atmosphere right off the bat.
>> Beginning the descent.
>> Mission clock started.
>> Oh, that's cool.
>> How's it looking down there, Convict?
>> Ready to do some good for a change?
>> Convict?
>> Yeah. Let's get this done. Cruising depth in roughly 2 minutes. Stand by.
>> What a great way to capture descending.
Yeah, >> just the POV of the character.
>> Keep an eye out for sparks or flames or anything like that.
>> Flames. Why would there be flames?
>> I don't know. That's why I warned you.
>> You did test this thing, right?
>> This is the test.
>> Excellent.
>> Keep an eye on your death while you're down there. The terrain can be unpredictable, so make sure you're not wandering down too far into the red.
It can take pressure, but there's a limit.
>> This does feel like a video game.
>> Absolutely does.
>> We salvaged that glass from Phil station. Not a scratch on him. I know, right?
>> Pretty lucky.
>> Great sound design.
>> Hey, you hearing this?
>> Sounds like a goddamn MRI machine.
>> Hey, you said not to go into the red.
We're in the red.
Be careful your opponent.
>> Oh, that is eerie.
>> Oh boy.
>> He's always had such a nice voice.
>> Yeah, quite ops.
>> He does have the perfect voice too for this kind of video game surrogate character.
50.
Nope.
>> What the [ __ ] Freddy's coming for you.
I like the way he's capturing objects.
They make they feel very large.
Cool. Great use of lighting. Damn.
>> Camera.
buried treasure.
>> Carolyn Kaplan. Oh, these are credits.
>> LC love.
>> I thought I was watching codes and >> Troy Baker. Troy Baker.
>> Okay.
>> It's kind of him to give himself a last credit here.
>> It's a humble thing to do.
I have to do a playthrough on Reject Gaming. Woo! What is that?
>> One down, five to go. oxygen.
>> Oh no. Resource management.
>> Wow. One bar down already.
>> 100 minute long movie for going simply by 25s.
Yeah. I feel like it's like they got a really good close-up lens.
Couple good wides. These are so cool though.
That look like a buried dinosaur.
And this way they >> Oh, even the sweat beads.
>> Rain.
>> Oh, it looks like sweat beads, but it's not. It's pipes.
>> Ectoplasm.
>> It's a cool way to show us what's outside, but also, you know, in a budget friendly capacity or like give us a sense for the mystery outside.
>> 380 26.
Is that leak going to get worse?
Freaky.
It's like a giant rib cage.
>> Oh, it's acidic.
>> It's not even on the map. Maybe.
>> Weird ass tubes. What do I do if I find something not on the map?
>> You're not just pretending you can't hear me, right?
>> Oh no.
>> Whoa.
Oh, the light on the lens is really cool.
It's very ominous droning mechanical music.
This is very experiential.
>> I don't even know quite what I'm looking at, but this looks pretty weird.
and they're having fun with these long lenses.
Convicts are expendable.
It's probably a convict for something that wasn't even that bad.
>> He's just a shoplifter.
Oh [ __ ] Is he being pulled? Oh no. Oh no.
Is that big thing out there moving?
>> Nice, man.
>> So far, it's been a effective demonstration of doing a lot with a little.
>> Yeah. Are you reading me? What's your status?
>> Um, yeah. I'm here.
>> Is that empty? Should you fall?
>> I I don't know. Was that you?
>> Is the ship damaged?
>> You didn't tell me that there WOULD BE ANYTHING DOWN HERE.
>> Just tell me there's a problem with the ship. Know if the ship is dick before we send you back down.
>> Back. Back down.
>> Back down.
>> You fell. The hole could be punctured, which means a leak. which means flooding, which means you die.
>> Oh boy. Oh boy.
>> That seems fine.
>> Good.
>> You got you you with that the whole blood drip on your hand.
>> Do you think we can get any pictures?
>> I mean, you could get a couple maybe.
>> Yeah. Well, it might take a while to settle. So, go ahead.
>> Uh, settle. What does that mean?
>> Settle.
>> Is that why everything was shaking?
>> Essentially, uh, the bottom isn't exactly rock. Just layers of concealed blood and gas bubbles. I was lying when they said it wasn't stable. Like what?
This planet?
>> Holy [ __ ] Did you find a skeleton?
>> Yeah, >> sure looked like it.
>> Convict, are you absolutely sure that it was a skeleton?
>> Yeah, I've not seen a skeleton before.
>> How stupid do you think I am?
>> Silence.
>> Oh no, you're in 13.
bringing human now. That's good.
>> They are good at making these things feel like we did just ride an ascent in real time.
It's very deliberate movie so far.
>> Yeah.
Ew.
>> Hey. So, uh, supposed to deal.
>> How's your oxygen? You see any of >> what?
>> There's some kind of liquid building up in the wall. So, I I don't know what >> it's just condensation.
>> You sworn the next person that goes down what I found.
>> There's something alive down there.
>> An expert. I ain't going to be no expert.
>> Oh, I like the futuristic touches.
Even like the scars. Yeah, >> even like and and the blood blurs allows you to kind of probably hide some production stuff.
>> Does he have enough oxygen?
>> No, no problem. We got to move.
>> We got to get the oxygen.
>> Yeah. So, I found something. Maybe >> get you out of here. We might miss the opportunity. Another slip might go somewhere that we can get it. So, I'm going to give you something to take a sample.
JEEZ, >> YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO ME. THERE'S SOMETHING ELSE. IT'S NOT LIKE I DON'T WANT THE DEAL. All right, I want the deal. I want to make It's not worth it.
>> Fawning over this skeleton, but you're not hearing me when I say there's something else.
>> Uh, >> there might just be.
>> The constantly occurring blood drips are great.
>> All you got to do is point it in the right direction. Once it makes contact, it should be able to grab onto something and hold on tight.
>> So, what am I supposed to do? Just ram it?
>> Pretty much, >> man. Hell yeah.
>> Hard enough to make sure that it catches. You won't be able to see if it works. So, no second chances.
>> What?
>> You don't just want me to ram it. You want me to ram it at full speed?
>> Why play games?
>> At ramming speed.
>> Why go through all this trouble? If you want me DEAD SO BAD, WHY DON'T YOU JUST DO IT YOURSELF?
>> THIS IS THE BEST we have. What did he do?
>> This is bigger than any of us, so just do your job.
>> Jesus Christ.
>> The handcuffs must have confused me. I didn't REALIZE THIS WAS VOLUNTARY.
>> NAH.
>> How many times are you going to use me before you let me go?
>> Whoa. Whoa. X-ray camera.
>> Oh, there's people. There's all kinds of things >> like a creepy pasta image.
>> Now get someone else for your suicide MISSION BECAUSE I'M NOT GOING >> TO raden [ __ ] >> Psycho Eden [ __ ] >> It's not a normal camera. You can't see through blood. So you need X-rays to get through.
>> You just irdiated us all.
>> I I didn't know that.
>> Oh great. Did he accidentally killed him? Maybe if you had talked TO ME, THIS WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED.
>> YEAH.
>> OH, did he accidentally kill him?
>> Just get the sample.
>> At least that guy. Poor poor welder guy just just got x-rayed to death.
He probably shielded her and the other guy.
>> Oh, nice.
Keep saying that. I keep saying that.
>> All right, beginning the descent.
>> We got unravel.
>> They can make an escape room out of this.
>> Uh, hey, you uh you got to close the portal shield, man.
>> Who is this? Where's the other one?
>> It's a Yeah, it's a different voice.
>> The other one you talking about, Jack?
The guy you irdiated? Well, Captain's taking him to medical, so I'm in charge now.
>> Don't worry. And a landing. It sounds scary, but the salvage claw take most of the impact. And those welds aren't going anywhere cuz Jack is good at his job. Or I mean, well, he was good at his job.
>> Is he going to make it or not?
>> Your camera was a radiation gun.
>> The camera's wired into the black box, but I I must have wired it into the back of We were in a rush.
>> No.
>> Can we just agree? This is important.
Filament station was a bad loss, but imagine if we could actually rebuild it.
Even you could be a part of that.
>> Filament station.
>> I read your report. You surrendered.
Still don't fully buy Eden's [ __ ] >> Oh, >> another dogma about the last tree.
>> It's not about the tree, but Eden gave me a tattoo. The COI made me burn it off.
>> Eden, >> I didn't choose either of them. I still get a scar. Oof.
>> Since a quiet rapture, none of us get a choice.
>> Look at that.
>> Man, there's so much lore here. Quiet Rapture. Eden.
>> Can you at least tell me if this thing is blasting you with Rick?
>> No, the hole sticking up.
>> The hell.
>> Oh, great. Is he hallucinating? He's got aqua dementia.
>> Oh my god.
Yeah. Where could someone possibly hide?
>> I think he's hallucinating.
>> And he's got to carry a ton of this. I mean, like the chatter adds to the, you know, lived inness. But is this a diameter shot? Cool.
Feel like they have some kind of super tight lens, some kind of super wide lens, and then probably like one other in between.
Is that from his history? Is that with Eden?
>> Oh, so was it a part of that bracelet?
>> Huh?
Cross the wires.
>> Who's helping? It's got to be a message from his subconscious psychosis.
>> This definitely feels like a puzzle.
We won't be returning to the grove, brother. This is what >> This is not an expedition. It's an execution.
>> Yes.
>> They don't want you to return. And even if you do, and even if they keep their promises, what freedom waits for you?
>> Oh no.
>> Dying ships in a sea of dead stars. If there is still hope, it lies beyond the veil.
>> Hope in this void is as illusionary as the starlight. I will choose to breathe my last here at the bottom of an ocean.
This is the person before him.
>> I will give you freedom.
>> He was saying earlier like do it for the next guy. Tell the next guy about this.
>> So at least from what I'm gathering, they take these people from Eden and they throw them in here.
I wonder if they disabled that black box intentionally so that he would not hear that punch rocks right here.
>> It was right here.
It's okay. It's okay. We all got to break in the controls.
Trying to piece together what the gameplay would be based on this.
What would be the significance of gather getting some random creature underwater?
This is also in the Avatar universe. If they can harvest its brain juice, they can fuel everything.
Minimum dose.
Oh no.
Don't take deep blood sea dramamine.
At least he's got three oxygen bars.
>> It's not going to be enough though.
>> Interesting how they're like picking up the pace for the editing where they're not in the first act. We were just kind of watching him start and move on every point and now we're like jump cutting.
Yeah. More where he's already like now he's standing in emotion at this spot.
I got brain wave.
>> Hello.
>> What if this is all just some [ __ ] experiment? Like he's not actually even underwater.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's just in like a tank somewhere in a government lab.
>> Can you hear me?
>> Convict. Yes. We can hear you. What's going on? Are you away from the location?
>> Well, this is going to sound made up.
>> The skeleton's gone. again. I can't >> The skeleton is gone.
>> How can it be gone?
>> I don't know.
>> I'm at the coordinates. I took a picture. It's just a big hill. I don't know. Maybe it got buried.
>> Weird.
I mean, clearly this creature moved. It >> is the creature. This oozing glycerin stuff. Is it some kind of gelatinous form? either too unknown to man or science.
>> Oh, no. It's just more hill again.
>> It's >> Yeah. The further this goes, the more I do feel like I'm just watching some some convict guy.
>> How about now? It's just more hill. No skeleton.
>> Yes. No, I can hear you say that there was a hill.
>> Weird.
>> Yes, I am on a hill. There is no skeleton.
>> They got moved in the quake. Probably what we're picking up of you maybe.
Damn. I love these over the shoulder shots. Yeah.
>> Because he's like driving this submarine forward, but it's just like it's so emblematic of all he's driving into is just an abyss of darkness.
>> Yeah.
>> Like it looks like he's looking through a window.
>> Why is it so hot in here?
>> Just stay focused. Get the sample.
>> Can I not ask a question?
>> Stay focused and get the sample.
>> Sure.
Uhoh.
>> He rocks the cool guy disheveled hair in the face look very well.
>> I didn't mean for that to happen. I was just I was scared.
>> A vulnerable. It's okay.
>> The radiation. I mean >> I know what you mean.
>> How bad was it?
>> Doesn't matter.
>> Oh. Mhm.
>> Dwelling on it doesn't help the cause.
>> Yeah. What causes that?
>> Survival. The only cause we have left.
>> To save the Jack moment. He cares about that guy's well-being. Tell that to the other poor bastards you left down here.
>> You are the first one we've sent down.
>> Awful.
>> What's the point of lying to me? What's the point of any of this?
>> WHAT DOES IT MATTER IF YOU FIND A BIG SKELETON? THIS IS ALL JUST USELESS [ __ ] TO GET ME KILLED.
>> DO you think that I enjoy this? Do you?
>> Oh, wow. She's getting emotional.
>> There aren't enough of us left to be throwing lives away, but there is too much at stake not to take calculated risks.
>> That's a rock in a hard place. Eden doesn't understand that. YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT.
>> WHAT'S UNDERSTAND? IT'S ALL OVER. That's what Eden understands.
>> At least they're not deliluding themselves with some big future for humanity if we all just believe hard enough.
>> Game over and you know it.
>> Game over.
>> It's interesting.
>> Is that why you destroyed Filament Station?
>> That wasn't >> okay. So that's what he's convicted of.
>> That wasn't supposed to happen. Oh, you lost someone you loved there.
>> Oxygen.
>> Oh, down to two.
>> Crap.
>> So, he's not just paying a consequence for his actions. He's really trying to atone for something.
>> That's not right.
>> That's a different one.
>> What?
>> This?
>> I can't see what you're talking about.
>> The skeleton.
It moved. I told you already.
>> The ocean floor isn't static. Things shift. It's just what happens. You have eyes on it.
>> Yeah, I'm I'm looking at it right now.
But I'm I'm telling you, >> it's different.
>> It looks like something I don't think gas bubbles did this.
>> But you see the skeleton?
>> Yes, I see the skeleton, but I'm telling you something's wrong.
>> Yeah, >> it's just the head.
>> The sooner you get a sample, the sooner you get to come back. So, stop wasting time gawking at it and just get it.
>> Get it. So, I get this and I'm done >> for now.
>> Obviously, we'll need more than just a single sample, but we'll take time to study it.
>> So, you got a nice long break.
>> You're not just going to kill me as soon as I get up there.
>> Why would we? We need your help, and you're earning your place in the consolidation. That's all.
>> The consolidation.
>> I'm sorry about the radiation. I didn't know.
>> Mhm.
>> You can apologize to my tumors. Just get the sample.
>> I think that was her attempt at humor.
Uh, that was pretty funny.
>> Fair enough.
>> I was gonna say for for the images they're getting, that must be an intense amount of X-ray.
>> How hard do I need to hit this thing?
>> I don't know. This isn't exactly standard procedure. Just ram it.
>> Go to old American way.
>> Get the job done. Ship can handle it. I promise.
>> Are you sure?
>> I'm sure. And I need you to trust me.
Ram the ship.
>> All right. Okay.
>> Come on. Ram a flyier.
>> Just ram it and then I'm free. Then you come back up.
>> Then you come back up. Difference in being free.
>> Yeah.
>> And then I'm free.
>> Yeah. Just let me have this. Ugh.
Get close.
Damn it.
>> Damn. The music and sound design is so good.
>> So good.
>> Nice. With the wobble, too.
>> I rammed it.
>> Got it. One second.
>> Oh, no. The ship is bleeding. The ship is alive.
>> Yeah, I'm looking to um I mean what might be a hole in the jaw. I think I got it.
>> Good.
>> All right. Hopefully we can hold on to the sample during the ascent or else we're going to have to send you right back down.
>> Is that it?
>> Crap. Like a claw game.
>> With all the buildup, I thought there might be something a bit more calamitous.
>> Our goal is to hopefully avoid something more calamitous. That's what keeps us all alive. Now, hold on to something.
We're beginning the ascent.
>> What that thing? Is that like a thing behind it?
>> Uhoh. Uh-oh.
>> Rumbling is never good.
>> No.
>> Uh, there was something else.
>> What does it say again?
>> There was something else. IT WAS LOOKING RIGHT AT ME.
>> IS SOMETHING ALIVE? Are you Are you sure? Can you >> sure look less skeletal?
>> What just happened?
>> Oh my god.
>> I need TO CUT THE LINE.
>> WE NEED THAT SAMPLE.
>> Don't do No, do not cut the light. Those are the >> wa.
>> Oh, cool.
>> I can still see them.
>> Oh, flashback plier.
>> Stop saying they're gone. We can all see >> my son.
>> Is he convicted off of something from ages ago? Oh, Eden.
>> The stars are already dead.
>> Whoa.
>> Mere ghost light growing dimmer by the day.
>> God, the base in that voice.
It's interesting because like the Garden of Eden was supposed to be forever until the first sin and they talk about like according the belief system that Markiplier's comic character is talking about. Is that Eden? They don't believe in some other future of humanity that that is the forever.
>> They call that consolidation.
Ow.
>> Bled all into that headband you got.
Dude, >> it's closer. It's a lot closer.
>> Are you like in its mouth?
>> Yeah. What does the iron lung refer to?
>> Whoa.
You got electrical damage.
>> Is the submersible the iron lung?
I was questioning whether or not he's going into an iron lung.
>> Could be. I don't know. I mean, it could be any number of things.
>> Or could it be lung capacity for when you're submerging this much?
>> Yeah, maybe. Maybe he's going to have to run out of oxygen then hold his breath for so long.
>> Hey, that'll come in handy.
>> Yeah, that'll that'll wade you up through >> blood gallons and gallons and oceans worth of blood.
The pressure in a blood ocean must be even crazier cuz it's Is it Would it be better or worse because it's thicker?
Physicists the picture key seems like it's changing.
>> I had water this whole time.
>> Yeah. Make sure it's not spoiled.
>> Background sounds. Can't tell if it's music or background sounds.
Yeah, it's got a cool like industrial ambiance.
I can give myself a haircut.
Hey, wicked smat that go into the dark spooky hole.
This is stupid piece of [ __ ] You just had to chug the hole.
>> I told you, man. I told you.
>> I mean, even if you didn't, I don't think you had enough fill.
>> I was going to say, what else is in that box there? Maybe there's some other liquid.
Find an ink ribbon.
Uh, he's sending infinite X-rays out into this blood ocean. I don't I don't I'm a little worried about that.
How much like charge is on that thing?
How How does that How does this work?
How do X-rays work?
>> What was the budget on this again? Like $5 million?
>> I have no idea.
>> Or 40,000. I can't remember if it was like even past a million or not.
>> Cockpit voice record.
>> Might be even less than that.
>> Freaking black box.
>> Damn it.
>> You can probably learn some things from the black box.
>> Thanks. I have to read.
>> Is that a Is there a lot of manuals in the game?
>> Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
Nope. Nope.
So, if there was something down here, could have been If there was something on the ship, it could have been down here.
>> Gremlins on the wing.
>> Well, that would scare the [ __ ] out of me.
>> Yep.
>> If I would be pretty honestly terrified, >> especially cramped in this crawl space.
No. God, no.
Oh boy.
>> Cool. Oh, >> that's handy. It's >> right there at the beginning.
>> You crank it. It's like one of those wilderness flashlights.
Draw operation charge.

Nice.
>> Damn. And to get your eyes open without blinking that with that blood on your face. I'll break him. I'll break him.
>> Oh, that would suck.
>> Wonder if they did extensive story boards on this. Like, it's so economical and they do so much to change the angles to keep it interesting. Like, wonder >> fire.
>> Oh jeez. Oh no. Oh god.
>> Flood. Gas leak.
Fire.
>> Nice.
>> SHUT THE >> WHOA. Nice cut on that.
>> Feels like something's watching him.
>> Who's up there?
>> It's okay. You got your go bag. You're good.
>> Nice soft focus.
>> Where you going, man? Just going to sleep this off.
>> Yeah, go sleep in the crawl space.
>> Oh, let's go.
>> I feel like you're swallowed by something right now.
>> Yeah, the belly of the beast, dude. I wonder if he worked out for us.
Markiplier seems like it works out anyway.
>> Just drink some.
>> Yeah, drink some 70% alcohol.
Oh my.
You're an alcoholic, man.
Oh my. I'm dying down here.
It's >> very emphatic editing.
>> I'm [ __ ] Ah, >> I'm [ __ ] I see this changes everything.
>> Yeah, first time I got a bunch of light on his face as he finds hope in himself.
Uncle Brainwave.
Oh, and he's even tied his hair back.
He's a little more together. That's right. He looks good with the arm bandages, too. I got to say, you know, they should have really put the steering wheel and the camera in a similar place. You don't have to keep going to the opposite ends of the your tape X marks this spot.
Whoa. Ew.
>> That's not even a skeleton, is it?
>> That's the beast right there.
Ram it.
Ram it, Marcus Pliers.
Ew. Are you like in its burrow? Is it like down a hole? I think it dragged him.
>> I think he's going into the iron lung.
>> Yeah, >> sure. Good.
>> Don't mind me.
>> I'm just trying to go home.
>> What if that is What if it's the mouth and then one of those is a bronchial tube and one's like a tracheal tube?
>> Just pretend like I'm not even here.
>> I'm sure they're falling over themselves trying to find me. So, >> see anyone looking for Simon? Tell them I'm still alive.
>> Simon.
>> Simon. Okay.
Okay. So, the tape must have fallen itself. You got to get better, more adhesive tape.
>> God tape a plier.
>> Damn it.
>> I'm trusting you.
>> Almost a sketch of Rocky.
Dude, the ship sucks. You can't even see out of anything. This is horrible.
>> Yeah, the ship sucks. Blood ocean sucks.
This whole situation sucks.
>> I wonder if they're going to sell his little sweater at a Hot Topic with his hood.
Hey They get a lot of mileage out of just the the momentum of watching him figure stuff out.
What an impossible to navigate situation.
I can't rely solely on X-rays to see who >> getting closer to it.

>> It had to being aliens.
Cool. Almost looked like you were going 3D into that X-ray.
Damn, what a frustrating ass situation.
>> This movie truly blurs the line between first and second unit.
>> Whoa.
>> Whoa.
Kill your fellow Edeners. Eden kids.
>> Damn. How much does your breathing get when you're this deep?

>> Surrender yourself.
>> Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.
Dang.
>> Those the files from the other ship.
>> I guess it must be. You got privileges enough for this.
Nice texture.
>> Not my problem.
>> Oh, it will be. A spooky eyeball just showed up.
I don't know what you're seeing.
>> It's all in the numbers.
It's all in their gobbledegook sci-fi numbers. Something something coordinates. Something something is not right. Love an angler fish.
I wish the ship would respond to him.
Have it be like a Nightrider thing where they're like five wall. Okay.
>> 6' 7T 8T wall.
>> Of course it is.
>> Of course it is. What? You know, >> one left to try. One more.

We going up a little bit.
>> Almost there.
Yeah, nice nice way to convey that.
>> Come on. Hello.
>> Desperation just to get a signal.
>> I can relate to that.
>> I'm here.
>> Can you hear us?
>> Yeah.
>> This is a different voice.
>> Yeah, I'm here. Can you not hear me?
>> Are you real?
>> Are you real?
>> Is this another trick? Who is this?
>> Who do you think it is?
>> Ava, it's not you.
>> Ava? No, it's Simon.
>> Please cut us out. Please help us. We can't take >> Oh [ __ ] it's getting personal now.

>> You're on. You're on the >> still here, right?
>> These are stuck down here, too.
>> I thought I was They're still there. I talked to them.
>> Whoa.
>> Like we could just be out of range. Like maybe we just need to get hold of them and then they could send someone down to meet us.
>> Oxygen.
God damn it.
>> It's not the last of it. Then >> it's not enough.
>> You won't make it.
>> How'd you make it? Sounds like you've been down here longer.
>> Just try to control your breathing.
>> She's just so good at controlling it.
>> Yeah, I feel like she'd be down here way longer.
>> Yeah.
>> Can you just keep talking to me? Cuz I just >> Oh, >> you've just run out of air faster.
Some of the others went that way.
Not the worst fate down here.
>> Actually, I don't want to talk anymore.
>> I'd still have time to talk to him again. They don't know the danger of this place. We have to warn them.
>> I feel like they know damn well what they're doing. Yeah. There's a reason they're not down here themselves.
>> You don't know the answers.
>> They changed everything. What are you even talking about?
>> It's what caused the quiet rapture.
>> What?
>> It was a light star virus.
>> Like it didn't even matter. Like nothing in this universe could ever possibly matter.
>> You actually found something. Is that how you're still alive?
>> Yes. No. [ __ ] that. This isn't right.
>> How can they How can they convene?
>> We shouldn't be talking about this. You have no idea what's waiting for us down here.
>> Have you been a >> Forget about the light. It won't help you and you can't help us.
>> Are you a part of a hive mind?
>> Some things are too dangerous to remember.
>> Hold on.
>> Too dangerous to remember.
>> I just want to know what happened. Hey, can you still hear me? If you're just my imagination.
>> What?
>> I don't know what's real anymore. I've been losing track of time and I've been seeing some things.
>> Yeah, you've been seeing some things for a while. You know, no one on Eden wants to think this way. But what's more likely? That every planet and star disappeared or that a few space stations disappeared?
>> Few stations? Yeah, definitely.
>> Isn't it easier to believe that they're still there wondering where all of us went? Isn't that more likely?
>> This is the excerpt they're going to play at the Oscars.
>> It doesn't matter. There's no backup system, sir. This is the end. And I'm wasting my breath talking to a phantom.
>> Yeah. with your last block looming behind you.
>> So blurred.
>> But you give everything just to survive.
>> Yeah.
>> I never had anything to begin with.
>> Why survive then?
>> 116 520.
>> Oh my god.
>> We will see the answer together.
>> My god.
>> And you will live and we will be free.
>> Deal.
>> Get them coordinates.

>> We're still looking for us.
>> Maybe.
>> What?
>> I'm on the way. I'm uh I'm at about um 380 614. Not far, I think.
>> What could possibly be that important down here?
>> Do you believe in God?
>> Let's not get into that. Oh boy.
>> I hear enough of that kind of talk on Eden.
>> Yeah, you do.
>> It illuminates and it blinds. It thinks and therefore we are.
>> Even if your miracle could solve all my problems.
>> You sound like a fanatic lady.
>> They would just send me down again.
>> Why wouldn't they want to save you?
Knowledge and skill fade every year.
>> They blame me for what happened.
>> Blame you for what?
>> Whole damn thing.
>> Filming station. What happened to filament station?
>> It's gone. How do you not know? I >> like how they can make a speaker and the light feel like it's being louder or like moving.
>> Filament station is gone.
>> It's gone. Just like everything else in the quiet Rapture. So, what does it [ __ ] matter? Why do you care?
>> Oo, nice. All these all these super close inserts are great.
>> Maybe you do deserve this.
>> I didn't blow up Filament Station, but the ones who did aren't getting punished. JUST ME. I DIDN'T GET A CHOICE.
>> WHOA.
>> I just drew the short straw and then I traded one fancy metal box to Diane for another while people that I THOUGHT WERE MY BROTHERS ABANDONED ME.
>> They abandoned me just like they abandoned you.
>> You deserve redemption and vindication.
>> I can't get to the surface and neither can you. SO WHAT'S THE [ __ ] POINT?

>> Is there not another ship communicating?
Is it just this thing communicating to him?
>> Yeah. We will see Simon. We will see how you know my name together.
>> How did you know my name?
>> Yeah.
>> This is our salvation.
>> It's not plugged in.
>> Oh no. No. He's been hallucinating.
>> I didn't tell you by name.
>> Oh my.
>> Yeah. I think it's just this. It's like this crafty Leviathan thingy that's communicating to him.
>> Yeah.
We hear the precious.
Whoa.
Whoa.
Cool.
>> I see you.
>> Whoa.
>> Wicked.
>> Agreed.
>> Agreed.
Whoa, >> terrifying.
>> That is creepy.

>> Convict. What's wrong?
>> Just roll with it, man.
>> What's my name?
>> I don't think we ever got your name.
>> It makes sense to keep calling you convict.
>> You sent me down here to die and you don't even know my name.
>> We didn't send you. I'm sorry. Whoa.
>> It's been days since your last contact.
You should have run out of oxygen by now. How are you still alive?
>> I'm not sure.
>> I've been surviving on one breath a day.
>> It says I have one light left. I really don't know. I thought I'd die. I might have died.
>> I think I've done enough. And >> this guy's got a billion x-ray photos.
>> Be down here anymore. You can communicate the vision too that you had with the creature.
>> I don't think that's possible.
>> God damn it.
>> I had nothing to do with filament station. I swear that wasn't part of the plan.
>> Whoa.
>> They didn't listen to me. I'm >> really sorry. It's not a matter of want right now.

>> Yeah, but it's not worth the risk. Holy [ __ ] >> A bone fragment isn't going to tell us anything that we haven't already seen with our own eyes.

>> This isn't about your past. It's not punishment. And I know it's not fair.
>> You had a whole thing about taking risks because >> our new orders are to hold and observe.
>> Oh, I guess they're observing you.
>> After everything I've been through, you just come and do.
>> Maybe it's altered you to survive down here.
>> Sorry.
>> Maybe that's why you're not using oxygen. Of course, I don't know what you would be using else-wise.
>> Arm applier.
>> He's already dead, maybe.
>> Yeah.
>> So, he's not using oxygen.
>> Has anyone ever made it up?
>> Yes, >> I did. Yeah.
>> You know, I remember what you said. You said I was the first one down there. I was thinking about it when I was looking at the wreck. The others should be left down here.

I almost didn't notice the name when I counted the big [ __ ] hole on the side of it.
>> Big [ __ ] hole.
>> Did you say SM8? How do you know about that ship?
>> It had letters on it. I can read.
>> Yeah, it was filled with a big hole.
>> You found the SM?
>> You got to go back there.
>> We need you to get a sample. Need you to ram the theme.
>> When I found it, the computer it connected to it, but it it was downloading something. Something about the area immediately.
>> There's something about a black box, an archive, right?
>> You need this ship.
>> Well, if you want it, you got to come down here and get it. That's the deal.
That's fair. That's fair.
>> Yeah.
>> If you want it, you have to get me out.
>> Like in the deal.
>> There's no way that your computer downloaded anything. You don't have the right credentials.
>> There was a note. Someone told me to splice the wires. And I know, big secrets out. I'm not the first one down here, but this is what you need. Come on, guys. Come on.
>> I saw it. I fell in a cave and I went down and I navigated through it and I found this ship.
>> I feel like you're using so much oxygen by all this yelling. Just give him some passcodes, guys.
>> How far are you from it right now?
>> Not far.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> If I give you the right credentials for the computer and you did actually find the SM8, then you should be able to download all of their data. If you do this, I'll get you myself.

>> How else did he come up with the SM8?
>> He is not worth it. IT IS NOT WORTH LOSING YOU OR SOME [ __ ] CRIMINAL.
>> IT IS WORTH ANYTHING.
>> DAMN.
>> And you're lucky I'm not sending you down there instead.
>> This little lamp is a good actor.

Nice. Oh, that's cool. Damn.
Just took the whole bottom casing off of that thing. I wonder what their pre-production was like on this.
Probably had to map out a whole bunch of shortcuts and weird like crazy places to hide cameras and ways to keep it interesting.
What are you seeing?
Oh god.
Oh god.
Oh your oxygen.

Oh my god. Getting bloodboarded.
That's a lot of blood. Damn.

Wow. A lot of stuff. Wow.

E no.
>> Oh jeez. You're better off just dying.
>> Yeah.
>> You don't want to live looking like that.
>> Yeah.
>> Damn. And the ship's like caving in.
>> This is the only weapon. You know it.

>> Whoa. Whoa. Cool.
Cool.
>> How is he still alive?
>> Wow. That David Zamansski adrenaline provided by What does that mean?
Well done, Mark.
>> So, he did not live.
>> No, I guess he just got the the black box back. I'm going to say to people, his crew, that's nice. He took his all credits all one line. David was Troy Baker. Good call. Oh, David Samansky was himself. I wonder who that was. Hey, Rahu Kohley.
It's >> because David is the creator of the game. I think that is that the opening credit I don't remember.
>> I've seen his name three or four times and I'm I'm trying to commit it to every myself.
All right, let's talk about it. All right, guys. Well, we just watched uh Iron Lung, the Markiplier movie that's been a bit of a phenomenon. one of several in this year alone. Uh our Patreon, that's where you get the full reaction watch because you can now buy this movie video on demand and you can sync up with us, do the whole thing from beginning to end. Submerse yourself into the dread. Additionally, you can get TE's at reignitionshop.com to get some apparel to help support the Chanel if you so wish to.
>> Um John, I'll go to you first. There's a lot of hype around this experience of a movie. What would be your first impression off of coming off of it?
>> Uh, hats off. I mean, you know, this is a a long and deliberate movie, but it worked. I was more enthralled than I maybe even expected. Like I, you know, this is I knew roughly that this would be kind of isolated and obviously Markiplier would carry it. So, you know, it's a cool opportunity to, you know, see someone stretch their legs and and, you know, really throw down on the film making side. But yeah, it was one of those where I was curious as to whether this would kind of earn its run time and hold the attention and not feel like it was being stretched out a bunch. And while I do think you could probably tighten this a little bit, like you do kind of feel how long it is. Same time, like I thought they did a nice job of really making the most out of what they had and really making something that that was probably pretty limited in is all self financed and whatnot. And granted, Markiplier has plenty of money for certain things, but not infinite money. So, I was uh I was relatively impressed as like a writing, directing, producing, you know, inaugural effort, uh you know, debut effort. Uh yeah, I thought this certainly was like a strong Yeah. debut. It's like there's definitely stuff you could do to make the movie a little more tight, like I said, but uh the commitment was there.
There are times where you feel like, okay, maybe, you know, with more film making experience, more acting experience, he might be able to hit a couple more notes of depth in some of the more emotional scenes, but generally speaking, for a guy whose face, you know, whose voice, you know, whose persona, you know, I did find myself just kind of along for the journey and the ride. And even though you never quite forget that you're watching Mark Fishbach, you know, I did slip into the world and the characters and stuff like that. And I thought they Yeah. did a lot with a little and it worked way more than I expected. Like I thought this was like a pretty solid debut all around. Is there stuff you could do to it to smooth it out in different directions? Sure.
But uh I actually thought this would be less on the whole successful for me as a watching experience than it was. So uh >> why' you think that? Um, the one thing I knew going in was that this is a long movie and uh, and so I expected this to be a thinner experience overall and I think that yeah, I mean like a lot of the backstory stuff is like pretty boilerplate is like pretty common and like ah you're responsible for some tragedy and you're a criminal but you're not actually a real criminal. You were trying to do the right thing and you got everyone killed and now there's all this angst and anguish about you. Um, but you know, I thought they parsson out the mysteries pretty conscientiously. The deli, like it it's one of those movies that walks the line between being slow or being deliberate. And I think most of the time it actually kind of goes it it winds up in deliberate territory for me.
There are only a handful of times where I was like, I feel like we could cut this down a little bit, you know, um because but but I think what you pointed out is apt. It's like the further we get into the movie, the more the editing picks up. They are constantly doing interesting shots to keep things moving.
And I think the slow gestating mystery of like what weird cosmic horror is this in these bloody depths and and you know the X-ray camera I think is a fun motif.
There are moments where you're like oh yeah I bet this is out of the game or something. I bet this is a puzzle but uh but it didn't solely feel like you know I don't know much of anything about Iron Lung except the primer that you got when this movie came out about the concept itself. So, like, you know, I don't feel like I lost out on any number of things for not having that context. And this held my intrigue and attention more than I maybe expected it to. So, >> yeah.
>> How are you feeling about it?
>> Uh, I quite enjoyed it actually. I I do agree. I actually think like 20 minutes could have been trimmed off of this movie.
>> Yeah.
>> Like, >> this could have been a nice tight 100 minutes rather than two hours and change.
>> Yeah. I think I think it definitely like it's the power of when you do it's like it's the pros and cons of the fact that it's like self- financed >> and you know it doesn't have someone to be obedient to about runtime and to me it's more just like yeah there's there's a stretch within that like >> it's like there's an act one and then a lot of act two and and to me the most exciting parts were like the last 30 minutes of this movie. There's like an hour stretch where I feel like that hour probably could have been cut close to half.
>> Yeah. when when it is just kind of like repetitive and I understand but I'm like you know montages exist for a reason as and so but I know that like it can be difficult to split the difference between a montage and submersing one into the dreadful slow experience because the idea is to be in the monotony of what this Simon guy is going through that you have to dealing with kind of the boredom that that can do. You know, I'm not calling the movie itself boring. It's like there are parts where that that are dragging, but I'm like, but we're supposed to feel the drag because we're supposed to feel like the passage of time being very slow and that you're running around in circles. It's almost giving you the experience what I imagine maybe what the game is. Like I don't know what the game is, but from what this is, I felt like they were trying to emulate like what this might feel like as a as a user where you do sometimes run around in circles. You feel like you're not really getting anywhere. Um you're doing tasks that feel monotonous and you're like going down like when he's like crawling through and having to like find a light and fix it. Like of course it was like back here this solution the whole time.
So there are elements to it that didn't feel so much as like a winking nap, but the whole point was to immerse and sometimes I feel like that immersiveness actually sometimes worked against it in the pacing uh in terms of just pure entertainment and enjoyment of a film.
Um even though I could feel its intentions behind some of those scenes that were dragging. But in spite of the that chunk where I I do feel like a a good half of it could have been cut off, uh I found the I found the cinematography to be especially exciting, like of how of how they managed to make something like this particularly engaging for a movie of this runtime that is in this one little ship for this long. And Markiplier, I actually found his acting to be quite [ __ ] great. like I was surprised by how quickly I bought into him and not just seeing the personality that is him but really seeing the emotions that he's bringing >> and the sound design of this film like on the technical fronts a lot of these things are they are they enrich the experience as like part of the like when you when you are in this minimal space um these technical aspects become characters than themselves you know and so like the voice acting in addition to that would feel quite quite real with some of the interactions that are going on. It did take me a little bit to believe that we were going under it's not water but you know under into the blood >> under blood world cuz we're on like a moon made of blood or something picking up the pieces.
>> So yeah, it took me a while to believe that we weren't just on a set that was trying to emulate that you were going under that I could buy into the fiction that we are submerging into something.
It it took a little bit, but when it did, uh, I I found it like pretty cool and neat. And then by the time we get to the final half hour, I was really engrossed in all the >> ickiness and wildness that was going down. And I like that a lot of the movie kind of has that question mark of what the [ __ ] really happened in this like like what what's really what was really going on? like they they give you like pieces to a puzzle and I I don't I don't maybe if you play the game you understand every little bit but it's like I don't understand every little bit that went on. Like I feel like a lot of it's supposed to be kind of open to figuring it out and put to open to interpretation because you got like a monster then you got this element of the light and then it almost feels like posing questions of how can humanity possibly grasp something greater than that is godlike and then what would happen if you did finally go on this mission and you discover it and then you can't intellectualize what it is and what is the purpose of it and what there is no purpose to any of it, you know.
And I got I I kind of like that cosmic sci-fi horror lane that it that it committed to >> cuz I didn't know if it was going to go into like spelling everything out all of a sudden. And I I I like that it kind of leaves you with your head scratching trying to like, you know, understand.
It's like, okay, I I get the basic premise over time of like this quiet rapture happened and they want to uncover like what really went down. So, they take this convict from Eden. They go to this blood place and monster. Then there's the light and it's like, but what does this all really mean? And can you really understand what it all means?
And then ultimately, it's this guy arcing from being told what he's like a prisoner in every aspect. Seems like Eden, he was a prisoner. He's a prisoner in this ship. He's always being told what to do and he's being told by the monster what to do. And then by the end, he just chooses his own agency and [ __ ] dies. You know, he's like, "Fuck it, I'm just going to let the black box live." And uh so I like So I I think there's a lot of like really cool things here that, you know, uh it's the idea is to if you can surrender to the experience, I think you can get a lot out of it.
>> I can understand why though cuz like there was a there was stretches where I was like, man, if this is all it is, like I don't really know. I was I was gratified when you because I'd also one other stray piece of information I'd heard is that like they got a lot of blood for this and they were talking like Evil Dead 2013.
>> Kind of waiting for something.
>> Well, I well there were two I was I was sort of waiting or I was going like you know you hear stuff and then you're like well not that much blood like like conceptually yeah there's all this blood like it's a blood planet that's freaking horrible to think about. But then like once you get to the end and they're submerging and and I mean it's a it's a feat of like script supervision too because I imagine they had to keep growing the design of the ship as it underos more damage and the blood veins and stuff start to permeate throughout and uh and yeah like this is a real directorial challenge.
>> Yeah.
>> And so yeah, it's like they do so they get a lot of they do so much with interesting shots, interesting editing, interesting lenses. Uh, and I think they achieved for me as a viewer the right amount of vagory by the end where it's like I almost got the impression that whatever this giant creature is under the surface, this big teethy nasty skull looking thing is like it almost feels like Simon is caught between two poles.
He's got the people up here who are trying to get this research whatever and one of them is Jack Septic Eye.
Apparently Jack was Jack Septic Eye.
>> Okay. Uh, and then you've got the primordial beast down here. And I almost feel like the light is like something different because by the end it felt like the creature was also sort of like desperate to be like, "No, you can't leave." Like freaking everyone around him is desperate.
>> Yeah.
>> And then Yeah. Like you said, he finally chooses for himself. And then, you know, at least the blackbox I >> feel like rises to the top. So it's, you know, it's like, okay, >> well, if there's anybody left, maybe they'll find this. And you know, that's kind of like a nice, I think, place to leave it off because I like that. Yeah.
Like the cosmic horror of it all does leave you kind of to imagine and to sort of extrapolate and it is eerie and by the end of the movie like it is overwhelming and these different voices carrying in and out and you're like, is this a hive mind? Is this all a dying hallucination? What is this?
>> Yeah. you know, and I think that's that's kind of the stuff that draws me in, you know, is mysteries like that.
And and yeah, this nailed uh in large parts that feeling of cosmic horror, that feeling like uh this isn't exactly like the Cloverfield Paradox, but like the Cloverfield Paradox movie I kind of thought of during this because that movie leads with this like something's off here. Something's weird. Something something spooky is going on. We don't know what it is. And I think this delivered on that feeling of like I don't know what it is and I don't even know it's comprehendable to know what it is by the end.
>> Um so it's like the quiet and I don't know it's like I almost could have done with less of Seeing Eden even though those are so like fits and bursts because like everything is so unified in this rusty sub and this icky looking creature and all this blood blood. So to see some like space station that's like shiny and far out is almost like a little jarring in a way. Not to say, you know, you should take it out, but it's like I could have almost imagined a version where we don't even have to see that. And to that point, props for the FX shots they did have cuz like that one wide under the surface with all the stuff that he's looking up at was pretty crazy. And there only a couple of those shots. I think there was maybe even a miniature of the actual sub. And I wonder if they maybe shot more of that and it didn't turn out great, so they didn't use it or something.
>> Yeah, probably.
>> But it's definitely a movie I would love to see like some background on, you know?
>> Yeah, definitely. Definitely.
>> And definitely one where I'm like, yeah, you like I'm sure they learned tons and I'm sure whatever Mark decides to do next with his crew, you know. I have faith then that yeah, whatever it is worth checking out at the very least.
>> Well, there's some good dread uh throughout and uh love the tone, love the music. I thought this was uh I think I think it's something he absolutely should be proud of. Absolutely. Yeah.
Going to read some questions here. Ethan T.
>> Hi gents. Hope you're well. On rewatch, you notice a lot in some foreshadowing when you see that human monster that hides behind the corner. Then later in the movie when it shows up again and copies the same movements that Mark does both times, hinting that he is looking at himself, which is then confirmed to be him at the end of the movie with the missing arm and teeth on the side of his mouth. Ah, >> was Simon's future already set? Would love to know if you guys noticed this.
No. No. Didn't even think about that.
>> Yeah, I didn't quite pick that up.
>> Um, no. I mean, it it seemed like I mean, when you're dealing with they bring the question of God into existence and if there's anything about God that is uh kind of throughout many theoretical talks is that he's uh omniresent, you know. So, time works differently when you're dealing with godlike circumstances. Yeah. So, I I I don't know if it I I imagine it could be a thing that was already said and maybe decisions could have changed the course of his destiny. Uh but yeah, no, I I feel like it's just an overlapping >> the way the time convulsion thing was working. The way how time is overlapping for him in conversation by the time you get to the ending of this movie.
>> Time is flying circle. Yeah, it's one of those like when did he actually die?
>> Yeah.
>> You know, but yeah, I I think that's really cool. I would love to look out for it on the next one. And those effects, especially when he's in the chair, that the corpse of him in the chair, very cool looking, very good effect.
All right, Jaden Rhodess, I am curious with this new wave of YouTubers turned filmmakers, which has been y'all's favorite. This one, because it's the only one I've seen, and how does it compare to them? I actually really love the new one, Obsession, and I loved Bring Her Back from last year, the Rackaraka Boys. Uh, those would be my favorites, says Jaden Rhodess. What are your favorites?
between I mean uh >> what have you seen?
>> Talk to me. Shelby Oaks and Markiplier's uh Iron Lung.
>> Okay.
>> I'd say Talk to Me.
>> Yeah.
>> I I want to see that real bad.
>> I mean, Talk to Me is just out of all three of those, this is just like easily way more like my cup of tea, >> you know, disturbing grief, horror.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Yeah. It's [ __ ] up and sad.
>> Yeah. I like that.
>> I'm very excited to see it. I want to see it. I want to see all of the all of the YouTuber movies that have come out seem really cool. I'm really interested to see how they all fare in their different chosen assignments because I think this was a really hard assignment that he chose. Uh and so like props to that. This has a lot of flavors that I really love. Again, the sort of cosmic what the [ __ ] But uh yeah, I'll be very excited to compare and contrast when I finally see some of these other flicks.
>> I I don't I don't know, Jack, about obsession. I haven't seen a trailer. I'm so excited.
>> I I didn't even know it was a YouTuber who made it till like way after. Like I probably just learned that a couple days ago. And uh of course there's Backrooms that's out, but based off even from the tiny bits I know of obsession, which I'm like think it's about a couple. Um and then from the back rooms trailer, I'm like Markiplier seems to have ventured out on making the least mainstream accessible one of them all. So, I I find that to be like really cool that he committed >> to uh just something that is so like not what you bring to a studio and uh to see the response from audiences being really strong is pretty cool. Yeah. Honestly, even like I think it's like 43% on critics or something which is really pretty low, but I'm like that's even better than I would have thought this would this movie would be uh for considering the type of uh movie it it is, you know. So, yeah.
>> Well, yeah. It's it's that kind of thing. It's like even those things that I'm sure the critics might have been griping about aside from the runtime thing which we've talked about, it's like any number of things that like could be more interesting or like still pretty well presented here for what they are.
>> Yeah. Even if there are a lot of details and tropes that are familiar, like everyone showed up to this, man, >> definitely. Yeah.
>> And they got so much mileage out of so few things theoretically.
>> Uh yeah, really early really hats off.
Rudy Rogers, how you guys? As a fan of Markiplier and Cosmic Horror, I definitely enjoy this indie flick. I hope you did, too. Considering there's already a secret fan base to cross over with Project Hail Mary.
>> Yes, same universe.
>> Sure.
>> Um, yeah, this is like the total opposite, which is like the the guy solo mission on a dooming mission, which is [ __ ] not hopeful.
>> No one wants to be his friend.
>> What do y'all think about movies featuring thematic hope versus doom narratives? Do you have a preference?
And do you wish we could have had a happier ending for for Simon the Convict? Much love. Um, damn.
Uh, Thematic Hope I could definitely watch more often, I'd say.
>> Uh, I think younger me would prefer Doom narrative just because that's cooler and edgy and darker. Uh, the older I get, the more I prefer thematic hope, honestly. like uh yeah, so that's just like my I appreciate these kind of movies, but I I really got to be in like a mindset to to take it on, you know?
>> Yeah.
>> And uh before back then I was like always in that mindset and ready for it >> any any moment. Now I'm quite the opposite.
>> I'm kind of in a doom and gloom mindset generally, but uh in terms of my movies, I prefer the thematic hope. prefer that switch for pre for that escapism nowadays.
>> I feel like I Yeah, it's like I like both. I think it all depends on the execution and if it comes right down to it, I think a a poorly executed hope ending, while cheesy, is probably preferable to a poorly executed doom ending because a poorly executed Doom ending is going to leave you like mad or or or feeling like uh I don't know, you just sat through something edge edgy for the sake of edgy's sake. I don't know.
Like I I like a Doom and I might even be inclined to write a Doom, but I think it all depends on the project. And I I would agree. It's like yeah, I think as as a younger person perhaps you might look for more like realism in your stuff and yeah, like you grow up with things for in the earlier parts of your life, you watch more things with happy endings. And so like when you get to an older, more mature age, you are sort of like I would like in fiction if sometimes characters get to win or are rewarded in ways that life will not.
Whereas I feel like the Doom ending is often like the more like that's probably what would happen in life more of the time.
>> Yeah. You know.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So I mean this he he's still got the thing to them.
>> There's a shred of hope.
>> Um happier ending for Simon the convict.
Can't imagine what that would be.
Uh no I I I don't think I would have um actually I would have been fine with him having to appear. I think I could have settled on something, too. I don't really have a preference. I I was kind of happy with the idea that he might just die after all this and be like, "What the [ __ ] was the point of all that?"
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> I mean, you know, he he looked real spooky when he died, you know, all all overgrown with boils and stuff. I mean, it would have been nice. I don't know exactly what it would have been. Does he just like wake up on the surface? Like I don't know how happy we could go here. I I'm like does he become one with the light? That could be kind of happy or does he just make it back and then they're like good job you're free, you know?
>> Yeah.
>> I don't know. It's weird. Like there are it is a movie where you do get to the end and you are sort of like death is a kind of reward for this.
>> He definitely Yeah.
>> Even though he wants to live but uh I don't know. Yeah, I'm kind of with you.
Like I think there could have been a a happier ending for Simon, but I don't have any gripes about this ending.
>> No. No. I find like the ending in the last like chunk of this movie to be the most effective.
>> Yeah.
>> So, no, I'm good. I'm good with it.
Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah. And Yeah. And the bleak ending didn't leave me be like didn't leave me with that exact feeling of like what was the point?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. So, >> all right guys. Well, what do you think about Iron Lung? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. Glad we could do this. Glad we could watch it. And we'll see you guys soon. Rejects. Peace.
