Cleveland area weather forecast: Watching evening pop ups, fall-like conditions on Wednesday

[00:00:00]Let's go to the weather ambassador, Mark Johnson, keeping an eye on the forecast.

[00:00:03]We got a new severe thunderstorm warning, I saw.

[00:00:05]>> Is there going to be wildfire smoke?

[00:00:07]Then I'm there.

[00:00:08]>> [laughter] >> All right. Indeed, a couple of pop-up storms are beginning to pop up, and severe weather, we've got a warning, a new one coming out right now. We'll check on it in a sec. What's next? A fall-like Wednesday. Here we go, downtown, a little haze in the air, and some clouds. We're at 84, 65% humidity, and a dew point of 71. Now, let's get to the severe thunderstorm warning for Ashtabula County, right here, until 6:00 p.m. It's 5:18 p.m. now. Of course, you get a severe thunderstorm watch for Tuscarawas, Carroll, and Columbiana counties. No storms there as of now.

[00:00:45]This is a potent line of storms, and it's back-building just a little bit.

[00:00:49]Let's zoom on in at back-building here, meaning it's building back toward the west. You can see a few cells that are popping coming off the Canadian shoreline from Pelee Point. They're sliding toward the south and east at about 40 to 45 mph. We'll see if this fills in any more. If it does, it may impact Cleveland a little bit, but right now, this is just minor stuff. The bigger stuff right here, it's really starting to bow right in here.

[00:01:17]So, this is going to be a 60-mph wind gust sliding into Conneaut, North Kingsville, Kingsville, maybe Ashtabula.

[00:01:25]We'll keep an eye out for that. But, there's a big old bow starting to form there. So, we got some strong strong winds until 6:00 p.m. Severe thunderstorm warning for Ashtabula County.

[00:01:34]Another portion of the front is right over here, and we're waiting for a few isolated storms to pop here. Those could become severe.

[00:01:42]Um iffy, iffy. 86 Port Clinton, 84 Elyria and Cleveland, 81 for Mansfield, 83 Wooster, middle 80s for Akron-Canton.

[00:01:51]Ashtabula sitting at 80. Winds are coming in out of the west-northwest, gusting to near 20 mph. I love this visible satellite map. It shows you where the storms are to our south and it's scouring out a lot of the energy.

[00:02:05]You see all this clear area here? That's used up air. I mean, the energy is gone there. So, you have this little portion of the front that's trying to pop some thunderstorms. But, as these storms slide in to the area where there isn't any energy, they're probably going to fade away. On the other hand, there's a lot of fuel up here with these storms coming across the lake. So, that's going to be main energy here. All right? Main energy. Satellite and radar, you can see there's a secondary front right here.

[00:02:33]That's coming in late tonight, closer to midnight. And behind that, you got some chill. You've got cooler air. All right?

[00:02:41]So, first front comes through right around 8-ish p.m. and then this secondary trough slides in closer to midnight. Tomorrow's going to feel very fall-like. Next 12 hours, national design mart. 78 at 7:00-9:00 p.m. you're down to 72 and will fall down to a low in the lower 60s. Wow. Next few hours indeed. Make it 60° in some spots. Some of you may be upper 50s. Waves going two to four with some five-footers tomorrow. Our lake water at 72. Isolated showers, maybe a rumble of thunder coming in off the lake. It's instability showers. It's lake effect showers. Going to be cooler, near 70°.
