Movement shooters like Titanfall succeeded because they integrated fluid traversal mechanics with combat, creating a unique gameplay experience that few subsequent games have replicated; the upcoming game Impulse by 1047 Games aims to revive this genre by combining Titanfall's vertical movement and mech gameplay with Black Ops 3's pacing, though its success depends on executing the core mechanics that made Titanfall special rather than merely copying its features.

This New Game Is Basically Titanfall 3...Added:
So, for years now, Titanfall fans have basically been abandoned. [music] That is just the reality of it. Every few months there would be new rumors, new hope, people spotting references inside Apex Legends, developers teasing things, data miners finding files, insiders talking about canceled [music] projects behind the scenes, and every single time it led nowhere. Titanfall became one of those legendary shooter franchises people refuse to let die because nothing else ever really replaced it. The movement, the speed, the atmosphere, the Titans themselves, almost no shooter has managed to replicate that feeling properly since Titanfall 2 released almost 10 years ago. [music] And now suddenly, out of nowhere, we have Impulse, a brand new upcoming movement shooter from 1047 Games, the Splitgate developers, the ones that did the portal and Halo-inspired FPS, and according to multiple reports and leaked pre-alpha gameplay details, this thing is looking more and more like a direct [music] spiritual successor to Titanfall than anybody expected. Not inspired by Titanfall in tiny little ways, not similar movement. We are talking grappling hooks, wall running, boost pads, giant mechs scattered around maps, fast vertical [music] movement, futuristic combat arenas, and players literally grappling themselves inside massive Titans like machines, and wiping entire teams with Gatling guns and missile launchers. And the timing for this could not be bigger because Titanfall itself is basically dead right now. Respawn had Titanfall-related incubation projects happening internally, and [snorts] even those reportedly got canceled during EA's recent shake-ups and layoffs. [music] Apex Legends became the priority, live service became the priority, save money became the priority. And over time, an entire audience of FPS players started feeling completely ignored because the genre itself shifted away from what made Titanfall special in the first place.
That is why people are suddenly paying attention to Impulse. Now, keep in mind, these devs have made Splitgate 2, which is pretty much abandoned right now, [music] and the CEO of the studio itself said this live in the biggest gaming event.
>> And I'm tired of playing the same Call of Duty every year. And I wish we could have Titanfall 3.
Splitgate Battle Royale launches free right now, and it's [ __ ] awesome.
>> [cheering] [applause] >> A few moments later.
Well, not actually delivering with their latest game, so that was a pretty bad move. Of course, Embark sounds much more exciting, so there's that. According to Insider Gaming's report, pre-alpha footage already shows exactly the kind of gameplay Titanfall fans have been [music] begging for over the last decade. Players sprinting across walls at high speed using grappling hooks to swing around arenas, chaining movement together while fighting in team deathmatch, and then suddenly climbing inside giant mechs [music] that completely change the flow of combat.
And apparently, these mechs are not some tiny gimmick, either. The leaked footage describes titans like machines equipped with giant Gatling guns, missile launchers with cool-down systems, defensive shields, [music] and heavy battlefield presence that completely dominate fights once somebody gets control of one. Even visually, insiders are saying they look extremely similar to Titanfall mechs, to the point where it is impossible not to immediately think about Respawn's franchise when watching the gameplay. The craziest part is that this is still pre-alpha footage, meaning this game is nowhere near finished yet. That matters because if the core gameplay already looks this strong internally, then the potential here could be massive if 1047 Games actually executes properly, especially because they already proved before that they understand fluid movement mechanics better than most modern FPS studios.
Even people who stopped caring about Splitgate usually admitted one thing, the movement felt good. Fast shooters are hard to make. Good movement shooters are even harder. Titanfall worked because movement itself felt satisfying every second you [music] touched the controller. Traversal itself became part of the combat, and that seems to be exactly [music] what Impulse is chasing.
The CEO of 1047 Games, Ian Proulx, already publicly said earlier this year [music] that a small internal team was working on a movement shooter inspired by Titanfall and Black Ops 3. That alone immediately got attention because those are two of the most beloved movement shooters ever made. Black Ops 3 still has an insanely loyal fan base to this day because of how smooth and aggressive its movement system felt. Titanfall, meanwhile, became almost mythical among FPS fans because nobody else dared to fully commit to that style afterward.
So, now imagine combining Titanfall style mix and traversal with Black Ops 3 pacing and Splitgate's movement expertise. One of the biggest complaints about Splitgate 2 was that it leaned too hard into bright arcade aesthetics that made the game feel generic and forgettable compared to other shooters on the market. Impulse reportedly moves completely away from that. According to insiders, the tone is darker, grittier, more grounded visually, almost closer to XDefiant in [music] atmosphere, while still keeping the futuristic combat and movement systems. That is important because presentation matters a lot in shooters. Titanfall worked because everything looked and sounded [music] heavy. The Titans felt terrifying. The weapons sounded brutal. The movement animations [music] looked believable and aggressive. The maps felt like real war zones instead of e-sports arenas floating in empty space. Impulse seems to understand that players want something with actual atmosphere again instead of another colorful hero shooter trying to chase trends. But at the same [snorts] time, people absolutely should stay cautious here, too, because this is still 1047 Games, and right now their reputation is complicated. Splitgate exploded originally because it [music] felt fresh and different. A lot of people genuinely believed it was the next massive FPS franchise. Then, over time, things became messy. Splitgate 2 struggled hard to maintain excitement, the audience dropped off quickly, and players started feeling like the studio was chasing trends instead of focusing on what made the original game special.
[music] The whole make FPS games great again branding from the CEO ended up getting mocked online because players expected a revolutionary shooter and instead got something many people abandoned within weeks. That damage is real, [music] which means Embark is not walking into automatic success just because it has Titans and wall running. Players are going to scrutinize every single thing about this game. The gunplay needs to feel incredible, the movement cannot feel [music] clunky, the mechs cannot feel overpowered in annoying ways, the maps need to support traversal naturally, the progression cannot turn into another live service grind fest, and maybe most importantly of all, the game actually needs identity beyond just Titanfall [music] replacement because people do not want a cheap copy.
Titanfall was not loved just because of wall running, it was loved because every mechanic worked together perfectly. The pacing, the sound design, the verticality, the cinematic feeling of combat, [music] the fluidity between pilot gameplay and Titan gameplay, all of it blended together into something [music] that still feels unique today.
Embark has the opportunity to step into that [music] empty space. And there genuinely is an empty space now. Call of Duty slowed down over the years beside occasional movement focused [music] entries. Battlefield keeps rebuilding itself after major failures. Halo lost momentum. Apex Legends dominates Battle Royale but is not Titanfall. Meanwhile, millions of players still replay Titanfall 2's campaign and multiplayer because nothing else scratches that exact itch. The fact that a studio is even willing to attempt this right now deserves attention. Most publishers would never risk making a movement shooter with giant mechs anymore because modern executives are terrified of anything that is not a guaranteed live service success. They would rather make safer trend following shooters than take a risk on something fast, skill-based, and mechanically demanding. And Post at least feels ambitious, and maybe that is exactly why people are suddenly getting excited again. Anyway, if you guys want this game to be good, drop a like on the video and subscribe to stay tuned.
