An update from the 12News Weather Impact Center for May 23, 2026Added:
Well, good Saturday evening, Southeast Texas. Things beginning to wind down.
Just some light rain left over. So, that's good news there. On our Roofing 911 Sky Cam Network, we'll start out here in Beaumont, sponsored by Packard and the Pray. And we'll go up to our Roofing 911 Sky Cam Network up in the Lakes area in Jasper, sponsored by Pro Valves. Been about an inch of rain area-wide. It's been some isolated heavier totals in a few spots. We've had a couple of rain events today. A couple of upper-level disturbances. We had one this morning that produced some pretty gusty winds in some areas across Southeast Texas this morning as a fast mover is producing those gusty winds.
Then we had another disturbance following that that's helped produce the light to moderate rain we've had all afternoon. Good soaking rain. Certainly something we need. And the good news is the drought about over now. That is certainly some great, great news. It's been a long time since we've been able to see that up in the Lakes area. You saw close to an inch of rain in a few spots today. Now, down in Port Arthur, our Roofing 911 Sky Cam Network there are sponsored by Mid County Construction. Light rain continuing to fall. We've had about 3/4 of an inch to an inch down in the uh Port Arthur area as well. Temperatures will be very pleasant tonight thanks to the rain-cooled air. We'll drop into the upper 60s.
Now, we're still going to keep a chance of showers in the forecast even overnight. There's weak disturbances coming across, but as far as anything real heavy or severe, that's pretty much over with. So, that's good news there.
But, uh you can see the raindrops hitting the uh cameras there we have scattered across the area. And of course, tomorrow the weather starts to slowly improve. Of course, we'll get to that coming up in just a moment. Our Roofing 911 Sky Cam Network over in Orange sponsored by the Horseman's Western Store.
Pretty good little rain there. They've had an inch and a quarter. Very nice.
Helping to keep that grass green and ending the drought across Southeast Texas. That's certainly good news. With highs today only in the upper 70s and that was earlier uh before that second disturbance moved in uh from the southwest. Once again, we'll drop on down into the 60s tonight just mainly because of rain-cooled air. Very nice.
And of course, not only Orange but other areas in the triangle also saw uh about an inch of rain, very close to that. It'll be around an inch by the time the rains move out here in the next hour or so, which in just a few moments we'll show you live radar. Our Roofing 91 SkyCam Network outside of our 12 studios, some slick interstate there due to the light rain still falling.
Sponsored by Mid-County Plumbing. And here in Beaumont, we had some pretty gusty winds this morning with that first line of showers and thunderstorms. Had some wind gusts between 50 and 60 briefly in just a few isolated spots.
Most areas saw 40 to 50 mph winds. And then that system moved out, it stabilized the atmosphere. So, when the second disturbance came in, our rains have been more moderate, nothing too too terribly heavy. So, that is certainly uh some good news there across Southeast Texas. These are the kind of rains we need. We don't want all the heavy rains and flooding. That's That's certainly some good news. So, we certainly avoided that. Our final stop in our Roofing 91 SkyCam Network over in Lake Charles sponsored by Market Basket. Lake Charles, you had some heavy thunderstorms this morning as well.
And you're seeing some light to moderate rain across southwestern Louisiana as well.
You'll drop into the upper 60s for lows tonight. Be a little bit warmer tomorrow cuz we'll see less coverage of rain. So, it will start warming up a little bit tomorrow and even more so on Memorial Day itself on a Monday. You see the raindrops falling there up against the trees. Very light stuff though. There's no severe weather expected. So, we're in pretty good shape. No real hazards with the rain ending. So, that's certainly some uh good news as far as the weather goes.
Our other camera here in Beaumont sponsored by Packard and LaPray, the light rain continuing across and around Beaumont as well. So, about an inch of rain area wide. Let's take a look at weather headlines. Of course, tomorrow we'll still have that rain chance in the morning around 30 to 40% and then in the afternoon a few scattered showers, but nothing like what we've seen today. For Memorial Day, we'll give it a 30% coverage, but there'll be that'll be more sun, just some scattered showers there on Memorial Day. It's dry on Tuesday and then more showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday as another disturbance moves in. And you can see temperatures very nice, upper 60s to low 70s. Just light to moderate rain now left across Southeast Texas. Here's the back edge here. Houston's drying out finally. They had over 3 in of rain there today. There's the disturbance.
See the little twist there? One after another. It's about to move on out. So, that's some good news there as the rain will be ending here within the next hour.
And then the rest of the night we'll just see some on and off shower activity, which is possible at around 30%. Our weather watchers at been nice there too. Weather watchers reporting only upper 60s to lower 70s. Now, let's take a look at temperatures where it's been raining, temperatures have been around 70.
Lufkin's rebounded to 74. They had some rain earlier, but where it hasn't rained as much, look at Waco, 82, Dallas, 84, 83 in Austin, San Antonio, even a few 90s out over the west. Pretty hot. So, I'm kind of thankful for the rain here locally.
It helps keep those temperatures down.
So, you can see the mass of rain about to move out of the area. I don't really see too too much to our southwest. There'll be a few showers on and off throughout the night though, coming in from the southwest. We'll weak disturbances there. And of course, we certainly have plenty of moisture in place. You can see that disturbance now working on through the area.
And another one out in western Texas, but those storms should weaken well before they reach our area. All right, let's take a look at the upper level patterns. This is where the rain has been coming from. You can see a weak trough to our west. A little dip in the winds there.
Another disturbance. Weak one still coming through tonight. So, no significant heavy rains overnight because we're just so stable. We've stabilized so much. We'll put this in a motion. There'll be another little disturbance in the morning. And then as we head into Memorial Day, what's left of that trough, weak upper low, located around Toledo Bend. So, it'll be pretty much right overhead, which can be a good thing.
Because when you tie me up low pressure, regardless if it's at the surface, we know that with tropics, and in the upper atmosphere, a lot of times most of your rain and heavy rains anyway are to the east. So, we'll go with a 30% coverage of showers and thunderstorms on Memorial Day. And by Tuesday, look at that. We still have the southwest flow, but there's no disturbances. The air mass starts drying out. So, Tuesday looks dry. And then there's Wednesday system coming in. Could see another inch of rain coming up on Wednesday with a few showers and thunderstorms. You see the trough axis there.
That'll work on through on Wednesday and Wednesday afternoon. And then as we head into Thursday, it dries out again. And things look pretty good, I think, for the end of the week. Just a very slight chance coming up for Friday and Saturday. Any additional rainfall overnight through tomorrow morning, still could be some spotty half inch totals here and there, but the coverage will be a lot less than what we had today. Futurecast is actually pretty quiet overnight, temperatures dropping on down into the 60s. I think the best chance of rain in the morning will be near the coast and offshore, but some of that could build inland in the morning.
We'll keep an eye on that, but I ain't nothing like what we had this morning or all day today. And with uh less shower activity tomorrow, it should be a little bit warmer. We should reach like closer to 80 coming out tomorrow. All right, marine forecast will have east winds offshore to about 10 knots, water temperature 80.
We'll keep a 60 to 70% coverage of showers going for the next hour, then it'll drop to 30% for the rest of the night as far as the coverage goes, so that's good news.
Lows in the 60s, and for tomorrow 30% lakes.
We'll go ahead and go with a 40% coverage for the triangle mainly in the morning, especially near the coast.
High temperatures will be in the upper 70s.
So that boundary, that outflow boundary that's just offshore, that's where most of the concentrated heavy stuff should be tomorrow morning. Okay, 7-day forecast, 40% coverage in the morning, down to 30% for Memorial Day. So even though I know it's a holiday, a lot of folks will be outdoors, still
