Dry Thunderstorms, Elevated Fire Risk

[00:00:00]Well, good evening to you, Blake, and happy Sunday. We've got some more concerns when it comes to our fire weather across Northern California as a red flag warning has now been issued for Trinity County and portions of Siskiyou County. And that elevated fire risk comes from isolated thunderstorms tonight. And what's helping fuel that possible thunderstorms? Well, number one, it's the heat we're dealing with, and we're going to deal with this heat all week. But it's an increase of monsoon moisture that's helping fuel those clouds and that thunderstorm chance. Now, going back to the Fork Fire that came up yesterday in Bella Vista, up to 501 acres burned, and I really applaud all the first responders and the firefighters that have been on the scene of that fire that's, of course, just to the northeast of Redding. Let's look at temperatures in Redding today. Right now, 98° and with all that equipment, I can just imagine all the sweat and how, um, brutally hot it is. So, applaud all of them, of course, but the heat is really everywhere for us across Northern California. Mount Shasta right now, one of the cooler spots, 81°. Chester, 85.

[00:00:59]Burney, 83. Then you get into the 90s.

[00:01:02]95 in Chico, 92 in Weaverville. And these temperatures will eventually try to cool overnight, but not by much. I do want to point out, though, the smoke concern. So, we are looking at some smoke emissions getting into Burney tonight, but also for Siskiyou County, areas like Yreka, you could be getting smoke pulled in from the East Evans Creek Fire there in Southern Oregon.

[00:01:23]That looks to come in tonight. Should clear out a bit by portions your Monday, but more of that smoke could be coming in. So, what does that mean? It means you want to, again, try to limit your time outdoors, especially if you're in Siskiyou County with that unhealthy for sensitive groups, air quality alert out for tomorrow. Now, the biggest concern heading into tonight is actually these little spots of green. Yes, the rain bringing concerns because these are some going to be some dry thunderstorms we watch as that moisture helps pull it up, and that's exactly why you have northeastern or northwestern or southwestern Siskiyou County there and the Trinity County under that red flag warning and that goes until tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. cuz when we look at the future cast, what you're going to see are these showers popping up and that could be those dry thunderstorms which could eventually put out some lightning, cause those wildfire concerns. Some isolated showers as we head into early tomorrow morning along the eastern Sierra and the Klamath Mountains. That's why the red flag warning is there, but we're going to continue with those clouds across the entirety of northern California going into tomorrow. Maybe a bit more moisture pulled up around lunchtime there for Trinity County and portions of Siskiyou.

[00:02:28]Could get maybe a isolated shower there along the I-5 corridor between Redding and Red Bluff, but we go into Tuesday and those clouds start to clear out a bit more, but tomorrow it is going to be hot. Still expecting those 90s across the board and we've got Duke here who is suited up to brave the heat, but remember if it's too hot for you to put your hand on the pavement, it's too hot for Duke to walk on the sidewalk. So, make sure you are checking it because the heat is going to return this week.
