To safely catch a roundhouse kick without injury, use the Bruce Lee lat flare technique by flaring out your lat muscles to absorb impact on muscle tissue rather than bones, combined with stepping away to minimize power transfer and positioning yourself close to the attacker's heel to maintain control and prevent counterattacks.

I Use This Bruce Lee Trick TO NEVER Get Hurt To The BodyAjouté :
harder and harder and harder All right, that's a hard kick. What's up, everybody? Welcome back. And today we're going to be talking about how to use a Bruce Lee move to keep that body safe when you're catching a roundhouse kick. You need to know how to do this if you're doing anything with legs involved.
>> [music] >> All right, everybody. We're going to have some fun today learn something very important. But before I'm really lucky to have Youssef here today. He's actually the owner of XMartial. And you guys know all the fantastic gear which I'm wearing all the time is directly from him. Thanks so much for joining me today. And you guys know there's that promo code down there, VARGA15, to save yourself 15%.
I love those shirts, by the way. Those are really cool ones. Okay. So, I had this question one time at a seminar.
Somebody said to me, "Gabriel, when somebody throws the round kick, I come and I catch it and I get the leg, but I actually get hurt. They're like I get bruised in my ribs or they kick me and I feel the wind get knocked out of me."
Now, most people would tell you that is happening because you're not stepping with the kick. When Youssef throws the kick, I don't just stay here and take it. I actually move away so that the power is minimized. And yes, that is a great tactic. But hopefully through the mic here, you're going to be able to hear the impact. We're going to start light. I'm not going to move. I'm just going to take these kicks.
And hopefully you'll be going, "Huh, how is he taking this kick?" And then I will show you the little trick that I use.
So, start off just nice and light. He just touches me there. A little bit of a thud. Little harder.
Little harder.
And harder.
And harder.
All right, that's a hard kick. You're a big dude, too. It's not like he's somebody who's got small little legs.
That kick is coming in. And if that hit my rib cage, And I just lifted my arm up and did nothing and he kicked me there, you'd probably break something. If you're looking to take your striking skills further than what this video provides, make sure you head over to Strike Ready.
Right now, we have 41% off because it was just my 41st birthday. You can have big savings. You can grab any of my six training courses and up those striking skills. Legitimately, I would probably have a little crack. So, years ago, I realized, what am I doing?
I'm doing what I call a Bruce Lee lat flare. So, everybody knows Bruce Lee, those pictures where he's like and his his lats are flared out. He looks massive, little tiny waist, massive upper body. He's got that nice V-shape. That's what I'm doing. When he's kicking me, he's not kicking bones.
He's hitting like the meat of the muscle right in there. And that allows me to stay strong. And now from there, it doesn't matter if I step.
If I don't step, I just take the impact and I catch. If I do step, it minimizes it even more, but either way, I'm safe.
So, as soon as I start to step away, I just flare that lat out. Now, when he throws the kick, I go, "Okay, yes, there's some impact, but now I have his leg. I took zero damage. And now from here, I can lift him up and then do whatever I want. Just smash him there."
A reason that people from this position have a big struggle is they're too deep.
So, if I catch the kick right now, you can see his foot sticking out quite a bit. I'm not close to his heel. That means if he starts punching me, he's going to be able to reach me. Also, it's hard to control him here. And if I go to lift him, it doesn't really hurt. So, if I catch and I realize I'm out of position, I'm just going to loosen my grip a tiny bit and slide back to here.
Now, when I go to lift him up, he's going to go, "Ooh, that hurts my ankle."
And if he goes to punch me, yeah. So, once you've caught that kick deep, you slide it back. If you put those two things together, your ankle, okay?
If you put those two things together, you can that little lat flare, and then from there, you just make sure you shift back a little bit and really hook into the ankle.
All of a sudden, you have a really good catch, and the follow-ups from there are just endless. There are so many. I can throw him down. I can sweep him, push him. I can do a silly thing. Like I was sparring with somebody recently, and they threw like this, and I saw them You can do that. I wouldn't do that.
You can knee right into here. I wouldn't do that. I'd be more going he's going down, or I'm just going to launch to his head and then start following up. Any of those are great, but you guys have the key important elements on how to take that impact. Thanks so much. Thank you so much.
