[00:00:00]In our lab, federally funded research has played a major role in the development of technologies that essentially are trying to make products that we all want, which is a simple blood test to tell us if we have cancer very early on. I'm Randy Carney, I'm an associate professor of biomedical engineering at UC Davis. I run a research lab of an amazing group of individuals that create early stage diagnostic platforms for cancer. My lab focuses on these tiny nanoparticles called extracellular vesicles or EVs, not the car, and maybe you've heard of nanoparticle drug delivery for for many years. It's usually us trying to make these different nanoparticles and deliver them to the body, but something interesting is that our body actually has perfected this over millions of years and we have natural nanoparticles that our cells release and they communicate all throughout the body. So, part of our goal and our federally funded research is to study these new type of nanoparticles and see how we can exploit them for diagnostics.
