Gibson’s reliance on standardized threat levels provides a comforting but perhaps oversimplified framework for understanding atmospheric chaos. It is a polished display of how experts use technical structures to project authority over unpredictable natural systems.

10 p.m. May 4, 2026, forecast with Keith GibsonAdded:
I hope. Storm Track 8 chief meteorologist Keith Gibson joining us now on this Monday night. Nice shot of Monument Circle tonight.
>> I think the big thing we need for that race is just no rain, right? We just want a dry track. It could be 40° as long as it's dry. We won't comfortably.
>> We don't want 40°, but tonight we're watching Storm Tracker and storms bubbling now out in Illinois. These have become a little bit more aggressive recently with some hail being reported out there across central Illinois. and we have a handful of severe thunderstorm warnings now. So, we will continue to watch this evolve over the next hour or two as it approaches Indiana. Bigger storms across northern Illinois. Those have been wind producers. And also here across northern Indiana, a couple of gusty storms as well north of Renelier.
So, we still have a level two severe weather threat through tonight in yellow. Level one through the metro.
Basically gusty wind and or hail the primary severe weather threat here from this point forward. But in the big picture just a broad brush low risk of severe weather. We think not everyone's going to have it. But we will all have a chance for some rain and some thunder here during the night and tomorrow as a cold front slips on through here. It's back to our northwest right now. And behind that we have some cooler weather.
Let's talk about it. Tomorrow, anywhere from the upper 50s to mid and upper 60s, about 63 in Indianapolis. Tomorrow, a chance for some rain and thunder. The better rain chance Wednesday early and we'll probably dry things out and hold on to these clouds only in the 50s there. Thursday, some upper 50s as well.
Thursday should be a little bit drier overall. Now, Sunday is Mother's Day and right now it looks like we'll have a chance for some rain and thunder.
Temperatures around 70°. We are going to warm back up as we get into the coming weekend. That's where we're headed. This is futurecast storm energy. And as we go throughout the uh course of the night, we're eventually going to lose some of that storm energy, but we're still going to have some around. And of course, storms are beginning to bubble up just a little bit more back to the west in Illinois. So, we'll watch that rainfall through, let's just say, Wednesday morning, anywhere from a half inch to perhaps an inch and a half or two inches, depending on how things shake out. Eventually later on tonight, we're down into the 50s to around 60. And we'll have those storms rumble on in.
Tomorrow, upper 50s to low and mid60s, 63 in Indianapolis. Areas of rain and thunder. I don't expect widespread severe weather tomorrow, but we will have some thunder chances here. Have the umbrella with you just to be on the safe side for the commute and also for that trip home tomorrow. Could be on the west side in some locations. Futurecast picking up on the storms now in Illinois and back to the northwest. And as we go through time, this is 2:30 in the morning that will continue to expand around here. So, I don't really expect by 2:30 we'll have a lot of widespread severe weather, but we will have some rain and storms. The front hangs around tomorrow. Chance of rain continues.
We'll start to dry things out by Wednesday afternoon right here.
Thursday, we have a chance for some drier conditions before that next system comes on in here on Friday. A chance for some showers. Here's your Morgan Morgan 7-day forecast. 50s and 60s through Friday. Decent weather for your weekend.
