SW Idaho weather: Cooler and windy with another chance of storms

[00:00:00]Quite a cool down we are experiencing today. If you step outside, you're going to want to have the jacket or maybe even a coat today. And it could be a little surprising considering we were in the 90s in the Treasure Valley yesterday.

[00:00:12]Right now, it's afternoon and we are still in the 60s. Boisey in the low 60s, even cooler than places like Stanley and Haley right now. Western Magic Valley a little bit warmer there as well. Jerome is in uh the low 70s currently. But looking at this 24-hour temperature change, this is how much temps have fallen uh compared to exactly 24 hours ago yesterday. So Boise, Nampa, Mountain Home, all these cities are almost 20° down just from 24 hours ago following that cold front. McCll down 13°. Magic Valley, Twin Falls is close to being 15 degrees down. The mountains are down a little bit as well. That cold front right now is almost to the east side of the state, but it has already hit places like eastern Oregon, southwest Idaho, the west central, and portions of the central mountains. Lots of widespread precipitation in southeast Idaho. Not so much on the west side of the state just yet. Although those uh showers are fairly scattered for the time being, they will become a bit more widespread later on in the early evening hours, probably right around dinner time. This is 6:00 p.m. or so. You can see rain is expected in the Treasure Valley. Storms are possible to roll through the valleys as well, but they have better chances of development in the mountains. It also will depend on how much sunshine we see this afternoon as daytime warming does help the development of thunderstorms as well. We will briefly dry out overnight, but moving forward in this futurecast, by the time we get to tomorrow afternoon, those scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms do come back into the picture. Again, a better chance at developing in those higher elevations.

[00:01:50]The Storm Protection C Center's map shows us that there is a level one risk of seeing severe storms occur in portions of Idaho. Most of that being in the central mountains, Cameas Prairie region, and then a little further northeast of our viewing area. So, leading then into Montana. However, the chance for non severe storms does fill our region in southwest Idaho, south central Idaho, and southeast Oregon as well. Tomorrow, the chance for non- severe storms continues. Maybe western Magic Valley uh getting out of that chance tomorrow, but we can't rule it out completely. So, we still have to be very weather aware. Gusts could be 45 miles hour today. With stronger storms, they could be 60 mph. So, make sure objects are secured outside. Dress for the cooler temperatures today. Travel could be difficult, especially in higher elevations where there could be a little bit of a wintry mix with that precipitation in those showers.
