This segment is a tired exercise in local news "edutainment" that favors a predictable mess over genuine scientific insight. It effectively reduces complex physical chemistry to a mere visual gimmick for morning television.

Good Morning San Antonio 9 a.m. : May 13, 2026Added:
What?
Hey everyone, it is the last Science with Sarah of the school year. So, we are going to end with an explosive bang.
We are at Will Rogers Academy with these amazing third graders. And yeah, we're going to be doing the Diet Coke and Mentos Geyser Explosions. AND WE SAY GOOD MORNING SAN ANTONIO.
>> Look forward to checking with Sarah for sure. Well, with prices going up and inflation up according to the latest price index consumer report, a big question is, is San Antonio still affordable? Well, we're going to take a look.
If you live in San Antonio, how can you not be rooting for the Spurs, man?
>> All right, that is the sound of victory.
The San Antonio Spurs bringing home the dub in a critical game five with many of the fans celebrating late into the night, early into this morning. We're going to give you a look at some of the highlights.
>> Hey, goes first.
We're so excited. Uh, I loved uh R.J.'s little uh accessory here.
>> Yes, it's it's basically my pocket square right here. It's a little Wemb.
Okay. Thank you very much for that. Take a look at that little guy right there hanging out with me uh for this morning.
Obviously, a big Spurs win. And shout out to the usher. I'm going to have to get your name. I I know that he's a big K-AC guy. So, um but uh he is over by the media section and he was talking to Larry, myself, Mary, yesterday and he gave us uh these little uh mini Wimbeies right there. So, >> yeah. I mean, it's very exciting. I'm I'm very glad that the the game started a little earlier so more people could watch it. We have to stay up and actually see the whole game. But yeah, victory feeling for sure this morning for the San Antonio Spurs. They are now one win away from heading to the Western Conference Finals.
>> All right, and we know that game six will be Friday night back in Minneapolis against the Timberwolves. Tip off there set for 8:30 p.m. This will be on Amazon Prime. So, another one of these streaming games. If they lose, I mean, we're not going to throw this out there.
We're not giving any negative vibes.
Then game seven though, one silver lining to that, silver and black lining I guess is that it will be back at the Frostbank Center this Sunday. Again, a dominating game, five win. My man Victor Webyama, the Spurs crowd was electric last night, so I'm sure there's definitely some tired Spurs fans this morning, but it was definitely a classic Spurs playoff crowd, Steph.
>> Yes. Well, Wimpby finished with 27 points and 17 rebounds and five blocks.
He looked good out there. He looked like a superhero. He also got a huge roar from the crowd when he was announced in the starting lineup. So now the Spurs have a chance to close out the series.
The team leading a best of seven series 3-2 wins nearly 85% of the time. Okay, we'll take that.
>> Uh we absolutely will. Yes.
>> And speaking of the Spurs fans, we have a special visit yesterday at the station from a grill master.
>> All right. Love this right here. And hopefully he's cooking up some good stuff, including some awesome brisketss and sausages. Let's take a look. If they win, boy, we're going to fill them up with brisketss and salt and chicken.
>> So, are these actual working barbecue pants?
>> Once you turn these on, these animals here, they're designed. These are party animals. This one's about 800 lb. That one's about 1,200 lb. These are used to these are old propane tanks.
>> Look at these homemade spurs. You want to put big logs, big door over there.
>> Mhm.
>> Like you want to put the brisket overnight.
>> Right. Have you used it already?
>> Look at those >> ashes. I see ashes in there.
>> Oh man. And and these are design like when the grease is melting. That's what really barbecues the on the coals cuz some people barbecue. You don't smell nothing. Right.
>> And then some people barbecue smell it for miles. It just depends on the professionals.
>> Okay.
>> Like the professionals cooking on these.
Oh man. First prize as soon as they show up.
>> They're original and unique. Everything that I made. These are blessings from the heavens. Nobody makes these. I give all the credit to the the Lord. My message to everybody, the greatest computer in the world is on your shoulders. I keep proving it to you.
>> Think outside the box.
>> Think outside the box. Yeah, absolutely.
Definitely.
>> Um, so many great ways to celebrate the Spurs, all the awesome merchandise, the swag, and uh, obviously the honking last night.
>> Yes. Oh, I'm sure. And you said it started early.
>> It started early. It was like 3 minutes after the game. People were already honking out there. I love it.
>> Didn't waste any time. I mean people, if it's good weather, if the Spurs are winning, you're never going to be able to not have the honking happen, especially down on Commerce. Now, I do have some good news. It is still looking good on Friday if you're going to any watch parties. But today, we're really going to start to see the temperatures increase. We're talking about already sitting at about 74 degrees. Throughout the next few hours, we're warming up to the 80s by lunchtime, 90s by the time you get to your evening, and we're still going to see those clear skies persist throughout most of the day. Here's a look at other areas. 91 degrees in San Antonio is our peak temperature. 95 or 93 down in Freer and Del Rio. 80 still is possible for the Hill Country, but I do think they most of us still has a chance to get to the low 90s. But keep in mind, we're still seeing a little bit of that light uh air quality issues this morning. And with that, we have an ozone action day. This will mean uh next to nothing for most of us, but if you do have some respiratory issues and uh respiratory illnesses, you might want to use caution. We're tracking an elevated afternoon of ozone being possible. What does that mean and what's causing the ozone action day for us in San Antonio?
I'll talk about it and if we could see any more throughout the next few days coming up in just a bit.
>> All right, let's give you a look at your traffic authority on this Wednesday morning. And again, a little bit slow going. We do have ongoing construction taking place there in the downtown area.
That is a look at some of the southbound traffic over by 35 at St. Mary Street. A shot there at the east to southeast side. 37 and Hackberry. I'm going to go ahead and uh reload the text, the incident page right now to give us another look at what might be taking place across the city. Disabled vehicle 10 at Callahan Road. That's going to be our eastbound traffic and also disabled vehicle at 410 at Cherry Ridge. But right there, shots of the quarry. Not too bad. We just saw a shot of the airport, so traffic is moving along.
Many other parts. No major accidents to speak of or let you know about at 9:04 on this Wednesday morning.
>> We now know the name of the man found near the railroad tracks in Southwest Ver County on Monday.
>> Authorities believe that this body may be connected to the death of six people that were found inside a box car in Laredo the day before. for authorities have identified him as 49year-old Nero Aguilar Garcia. His cause of death is still pending this morning. His body was found near Pew and Wolf Roads as federal agents look for clues into those Laredo deaths.
>> Well, the sheriff said on Monday that it was an alarm on the box car alerted that the door had been opened in San Antonio.
And that's why federal investigators were looking for clues along the tracks when he was discovered. Now, the investigation is now being handled by HSI.
Well, police are looking for a suspect this morning after a man was shot in the chest.
>> So, this all happened outside a motel off of I35 near Center Park Boulevard.
That is not far from Ramman Road. Police say that the man was shot around 11:00 last night and he ran to the front of the building before he collapsed. He was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. Witnesses told police that a dark-coled SUV took off after those shots were fired. So far, no arrests have been made. Well, he moved to San Antonio and just two days later, he was shot and killed. We're following through on the murder this morning of Frankie Garca.
>> Lar County Sheriff's Office says it's one of five murder cases that they've investigated this year, and they're still looking for his killer. Garza's family told Caseet that he moved from Kadisa Springs to San Antonio back on May 4th. On May 6th, his family says they got a call from the 24year-old letting them know what happened.
Frank said he's been shot and I could hear him breathing very heavy. We want to make sure that Frankie gets the justice he deserves.
>> While investigators have not announced any arrests, the sheriff's office also says that there have been at least 46 calls now for service to that complex so far this year.
>> If you have any information, you are asked to call the Bear County Sheriff's Office. You have that number on your screen, 21103356000.
We have an update now on recovery efforts 10 months in the making. So we told you yesterday that the Guadalupe River flood warning system flash flood sirens were being installed and now we're getting a first look at what they look like.
>> So the first aid sirens are now ready to go for this summer. The next phase will be done next summer 2027. It's all part of a new state flood safety requirements in flash flood alley. Now, phase one targets camps along the north and south forks of the Guadalupe River in West Kirk County.
>> Well, sound range depends on weather and terrain, but the manufacturer says you may hear them up to one mile away. The National Weather Service can trigger the sirens on Kirk County Emergency Management can activate them manually as well. So, Kirk County will also be giving updates on the flood sirens next Wednesday, May 20th.
All right, here's today's 9 at 9. This morning, the man accused of killing King of the Hill actor Jonathan Jobs is expected back in court. Seedo Sea Alvarez is out on bond. So, it's been about two and a half months since the last update in the case. It will be in the courtroom this morning and it's going to bring you updates on air and online.
>> Whimo is issuing a voluntary software recall this morning after one of its robo taxis drove into high water and was swept away in San Antonio last month during flooding. The vehicle was recovered from Salado Creek days later.
The company says the recall affects nearly 3,800 vehicles and involves software that allowed the car to drive into that high water.
>> Well, 2 years after the deadly collapse of Baltimore's Key Bridge, the Justice Department has filed criminal charges against the operator of the cargo ship that hit it. Prosecutors alleged that Synergy Marine ignored safety problems on the dolly, used improper fuel supply pumps, and falsified inspection records.
Well, President Donald Trump is in China for a high stakes summit with the Chinese President Xiinping. The White House says that trade is the main focus, but also the war with Iran is expected to come up since China is Iran's biggest oil customer. Trump is expected to urge the president of China to pressure Iran to reopen the street of Hormuse.
>> Well, data stolen in a cyber attack that shut down canvas, an education platform used by schools and universities across the country, has been returned. The hackers claimed to have breached data from 275 million users and gave schools until May 12th to negotiate a settlement.
>> Well, after years of living a lavish life, helping make celebrities look their best. The founder of E.L.F.
Cosmetics is transitioning to become a Catholic priest. At age 52, Scott Borba is studying at a California seminary.
Borba set to be an ordained priest later on this month and says that he's never been happier.
Well, Apple is urging iPhone and iPad users to update to its newest operating systems to keep their devices safe. The company says that 26.5 versions address a linking list of security flaws.
>> Well, can you remember the first song that you ever streamed on Spotify? No need to strain your brain too hard because Spotify can actually tell you that answer. In honor of its 20-year anniversary, the music streaming service is offering a look back at your entire history on the platform. This is only available through the Spotify app.
>> Well, Wallet Hub wants to help you plan your summer vacation and get the best deal. So, they rank the top destinations in the US that won't blow your budget.
So, coming in at number one, Atlanta, Georgia. Number two, Orlando, Florida.
And then third, get this, Austin, Texas.
>> Okay, there you go. Right up the road 35. Uh, going back to that Spotify, do you remember your first song? I don't have Spotify, but but I have Apple Music. And I was trying to think of that and I was like, I I don't remember because I think before uh before you could easily download, you had to put your own in.
>> So, I was like transferring music over.
>> I don't know. Okay. It was probably like some Metallica or something or hip-hop from the mid. I don't know. But I can tell you now.
>> I know. Yeah. I got to check.
>> Take a look.
>> All right. 9:10 and we're at 74 degrees for now. GMSA at 9ine. Coming up.
>> Okay. A very special birthday today. The San Antonio Zoo turning 112. How you can participate in the bday celebrations.
>> Plus, Bracken Ridge is opening up an ex inclusive park for everyone. What you can expect to see there once it's complete.
A $12 million 2acre nature playscape.
Broen Ridge Park Conservancy broke ground yesterday on the new park here in San Antonio. So the conservancy says that the 2acre space is designed for kids of all abilities and celebrates the indigenous population with an indigenous camping area.
>> So there will be tree houses, lots of spaces for climbing, plenty of areas with shade of course because of all those amazing trees and also sensory elements.
>> It's made out of natural wood. Uh the entire space is ADA accommodating.
There's no steps or stairs in it. It's all paved uh ground. And also, we've invested $750,000 in new shade and ornamental trees to make Brackeridge Park green again.
>> All right. Well, the park is expected to be completed by the summer of next year.
>> And the San Antonio Zoo celebrating its birthday today, and you're invited. So, this is happening from 10 to noon, very soon inside the Waterburger Theater. The zoo is turning 112.
>> Yeah, that's incredible. Over a century now. There will be live DJs there.
treats, fun activities for you and the entire family to enjoy, all while those supplies last.
>> Well, Girl with Grit nonprofit is giving local kids the tools and confidence that they need to succeed. So, through its Grit Kids curriculum, kids and teens learn practical skills by building simple projects. The nonprofit organization says that every donation isn't just supporting the program. It's opening doors for young people and strengthening our community.
>> Getting them into public schools, into after school programs, into like camps, weekend camps or day camps that the kids can participate and learn and have these options they didn't have before.
Well, Girl with Grit is teaming up with ESC20 to empower teachers and students through their curriculum and programs, including those grit kits. They have the workshops and camps to show you how to use them.
>> So, if you want in on all this, we have posted everything that you need to know, including how to register on our website. That would be kac community.com.
>> Glad we had good honking weather.
>> I am also glad we had good honking weather and I do think it'll be good honking weather hopefully Friday. Not saying anything, >> not saying anything, but you know, uh, and even if you're going out to the zoo, it might still be a tad toasty. So, remember to drink water, find some shade when you can, but otherwise, we're not seeing any rain today. So, I think that's some good news. But right now, uh, we're still sitting in the 70s and it's still kind of chilly this morning.
74 degrees in San Antonio right now.
Still 60s in the Hill Country, 67. And throughout the next few hours, we are going to warm up, especially for our afternoon. 91° is what we're forecasting for San Antonio. Still seeing those mostly clear skies persist throughout most of the day. It's going to be warm one. It's going to be feeling more like summer, not necessarily like spring, but hey, summer's just around the corner.
Summer starts in just a few weeks. And another thing to note is it's going to be a little dry today, but it continues to return by the time we get to the weekend. the mugginess and the due point and that humidity is really going to return. But here's why. We have that heat high currently sitting over us and that's going to leave. But that heat high before it finally leaves, we're seeing temperatures in the 90s for most of the week. 91° today and tomorrow, 92 Friday, 91 Saturday, 92 Sunday. It's not until Monday and Tuesday next week when we finally start to see a little bit of the difference in our temperatures. And that's also going to be greeted by rain chances. But like I mentioned, that heat high still just sitting into areas now moving into the panhandle and out in West Texas currently over New Mexico.
That's helping bring in some of that dryness and that warm air. But keep in mind that heat high is also going to be partly to blame for those who do have some respiratory illnesses for that ozone action day. And that's going to continue to really sit over Texas throughout the next few days. But we have more low pressure systems and more systems going to the upper portion of the Midwest. And that's allowing for that severe weather if you're headed to Chicago or the Great Plains throughout the next few days. But that heat high is really the main story for throughout the rest of the week and even getting closer to the weekend. What's behind it is what we're watching for some finally seeing some rain chances. Yes, we saw the rain this weekend and it was much needed rain. That'll reflect in the drought monitor that comes out tomorrow. So, tune in to case uh GMSA at 9 tomorrow and then noon tomorrow. We'll show you the latest drought monitor, but we're tracking a low pressure system from the Pacific Northwest, and that's going to move closer into San Antonio. And that's going to also uh dig in to that upper level rain makingaking energy and bring in some of that Pacific moisture as well. And that's going to return by Monday. So, yes, there could be a chance of some snow or for some snow up towards the Great Plains, but for San Antonio, we're looking that it could possibly give us some rain chances, but it is still a few days away and we really need you guys to uh continue to check back in with us. We'll bring you the latest updates, but it also appears there could be a very weak cold front associated with it. It might stay stationary and stalled just before it gets to San Antonio, and we'll continue to keep you posted. That's why you need to check back for updates. But it still could bring us that much needed rain. We're slowly starting to chip away at our drought. So any rain is good rain, especially because we're tracking that chance. Some of these showers could maybe bring in some thunderstorms. But like I mentioned, that doesn't happen until Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week. before then we're talking about 90s for most of us waking up in the 60s and 70s. Although it's still going to be hot and warm and muggy throughout the weekend. There's no rain chances. So, at least there is something to look on the bright side this weekend, guys.
>> Yeah, I mean it'll just be we'll just wait for those rain chances and and do some more outdoor stuff.
>> Yes, keep the shade for sure.
>> Absolutely.
>> All right. Thank you very much for that, Shelby. Okay, let's give you a live look right now at Will Rogers Academy where look at Sarah Spivey. She is giving us her last science with Sarah of the school year before we head to the summer break. And it's going to be a good one.
Explosive one.
>> Yeah, they're going to have a lot of fun. We'll check in with them really soon.
>> Welcome back. It's 9:24. Well, let's get to the last Science with Sarah for the school year at Will Rogers Academy this morning. All right. Yes, a bittersweet because it's the last one, but I know those kids are excited to be heading out to summer break, but Sarah is doing a popular experiment with those kidders out there. Will Rogers Sarah, good morning.
>> Hey, good morning. Yeah, it's it's bittersweet because it's the last one, but last one of the school year. We're going to continue with Science with Sarah for a while. Okay, but in order to end the school year with a bang, we're going to do the classic Diet Coke and Mentos experiment. I've got my awesome assistant here. He's helping me hold my There's a lot of Mentos in here. This is where you make a dispenser using a piece of paper and scotch tape. And you want to make sure it holds all the Mentos cuz you want to let them all go all at once.
So, okay.
>> In this thing of Diet Coke, there are 28 million bubbles of carbon dioxide in this. And a Mentos. Look at it. It looks smooth, but it's actually made under under a microscope. You can see all of the jaggedy edges. And one Mentos causes all of the carbon dioxide to explode out of that. Thank you for this. Appreciate it. Okay, I'm going to get you guys to stand back. Okay, because this is going to get messy. All right, are we ready to see how I do this experiment?
>> So, in here is a whole roll of Mentos.
And I choose to use diet soda because I don't want to make a sticky mess. If you you'll work with regular soda, but it'll be so sticky. Okay, here we go. We're going to see how this works. Hopefully, all of the mentos will release at once.
Are you guys ready? Countdown with me.
Three, TWO, ONE.
>> LOOK AT THAT. THAT IS INSANE. OKAY.
WELL, coming up, these awesome third graders are going to do this experiment themselves.
>> Crazy. OKAY. ARE Y'ALL EXCITED?
>> OKAY. AWESOME. All right. We'll be back with more science with Sarah.
>> Hi guys. Welcome back to Will Rogers Academy. We're with these awesome third graders. Okay. What kind of gas is trapped in the Diet Coke?
>> Carbon dioxide.
>> What was that? Carbon dioxide.
>> That's awesome. Do you want to give anybody a shout out at home?
>> Uh, shout out to my dad for caring for me since I was born.
>> I love that. That is precious. Any shout outs?
>> My whole family, even Jesus and God.
>> Oh, I love that. And you?
>> I want to have shout out my mom and my grandma and my family.
>> I love that. Okay, are you guys ready to make your geysers?
>> Okay, when you're going to remove the index card and step back in three, two, ONE.
OH MY GOSH. LET'S HAVE THESE GO in here.
>> Was that fun?
>> Yes.
>> Yeah. Was that cool?
>> Yeah. Okay. What was that? Tell the camera.
>> That was large.
>> Yes, it was. Okay. All right. What are you guys' names?
>> Na.
>> Kevin, >> Zachary, >> Brooklyn, >> and Kabiko.
>> Okay. What is the um what is in the Diet Coke? Solid, liquid, or gas?
>> Liquid.
>> And >> gas.
>> Awesome. Okay. What are the Mentos? A solid, liquid, or gas?
>> Solid.
>> Solid.
>> That's right. Okay. You guys ready? Make sure your Mentos are going into the thing before you step back. Three, two, ONE.
>> Oh my god.
that I have a feeling. My hypothesis is that the heat outside is making these go higher. Okay. All right. What are What's your name?
>> Uh Cameron.
>> Cameron.
>> Xavier. Hadaza.
>> Hadza. And >> my name's Juan Carlos.
>> Any shout outs?
>> Uh to >> to my five brothers and my dad.
>> I love it. Uh to my mom for giving me permission to be on live TV.
>> Thank you, mom. Thank you for that.
Okay. Any shout outs? Um to my mom for to hey helping >> helping you. That's sweet.
>> To both of my parents for because they always take care of me.
>> I love it.
>> To my mom because how nice she is.
>> Oh, that's awesome. ARE YOU GUYS READY?
>> YEAH.
>> OKAY. THREE, TWO, ONE.
>> Let it go. LET IT GO.
>> MINE'S NOT GOING DOWN. HERE, we'll flip it over.
>> Go.
>> Okay. Are you guys ready? LAST THING.
>> OKAY. GIVE ANY SHOUT OUTS.
>> YEAH.
>> The camera.
>> Uh, I want to get give a shout out to to my grandma for taking care of me my entire life.
>> Way to go, grandma.
Um, I want to shout out to my grandma cuz she always watches the news.
>> Oh, good job, grandma.
>> My grandma and my grandpa and my mommy.
>> Love it.
>> My mom and my dad.
>> I love it. Okay, you guys ready? You're the last Science with Sarah of the school year.
>> Okay, three, two, ONE.
>> Maybe maybe flip it over. See if that'll help.
>> WHOA. OH, NO. THAT'S CRAZY.
>> SEE?
>> OH, it crumpled a little. This one's going to be the best cuz it's taking the longest. That's how everything works.
WHOA, that's awesome.
>> Okay. All right, guys. Was this a fun experiment?
>> Okay. If you guys want some more awesome Science with Sarah experiments, you can go to kat.com. EVERYBODY STRIKE A CRAZY POSE. IT'S ON THE COUNT OF THREE. SAY SCIENCE. ONE, TWO, THREE. SCIENCE.
>> SCIENCE.
>> Good job to the kiddos at Lil Rogers Academy. Yeah, I love I love the excitement. I love all the shout outs.
>> Yeah, of course. Uh what a way to go out there. I mean, there were some of those that were getting some uh pretty high there. That was impressive stuff.
>> They were getting pretty high and Oh, it's going to be a sticky mess.
>> Uh-oh. Yeah.
>> To clean up. Clean up. They'll clean up.
They'll clean up.
>> We'll just enjoy the uh fun of science with Sarah. That was an awesome and a classic science experiment. So Sarah, well done. But if you are going out and about later today, maybe you have your own science experiment you want to do this morning. We're still seeing temperatures in the 70s. 74 degrees right now here in the Alamo City. 60s still in the Hill Country. 69 in Kurville and Comfort. But throughout the next few hours, our temperatures are going to increase. It's going to be a sunny day for us here in the Alamo City.
and a warm day. We're talking about 91 degrees for us here later today. We do see that chance of a little bit of that cloud coverage returning through the evening hours really for tomorrow morning. And then the humidity is going to continue to rise throughout the rest of the week and even close to the weekend. And on Sunday, that humidity is going to allow there to be a possibility of the heat indices reaching 100°.
That's what it's going to be feeling like, not necessarily what the actual air temperature is. and it's going to continue to be warm until we get that low pressure system moving through the Alamo City closer to next week. I'll talk about it and what that means for our drought and if we could see any rain with that coming up in just a bit.
>> All right, let's give you a look at your traffic authority about to step outside and things have been looking really good out there in terms of some of our Wednesday morning commute. 281 at 410 the airport. No major issues there.
Another shot there at the quarry on what is turning into a really nice day across our area. Real quick, just want to update the textile website and uh things actually look really good too. 81 Ballo.
Uh looks like we do have a stalled vehicle there and still have a stalled vehicle over by 10 at Callahan, but no major accidents or issues to let you know about on the roads on this Wednesday morning.
Well, if you've been to a Spurs game recently or one of the official watch parties, you definitely know the sounds, the vibes, and the energy that DJ Quake brings to every Spurs gathering. I got the chance to talk one-on-one with the in arena DJ about his time with the Spurs and how he brings the hypeness to the crowd here at the Frostbank Center.
>> Just re reading into people, uh, reading into where the energyy's at, like, you know, try to play something situational.
saying if we're hype, we're hype. You know, the crowd's loud. Come with something fun. You know, try to make people happy.
>> Well, Quake told me that he is a San Antonio native and he was born and raised South San Antonio. Shout out to the Bobcats. Interesting when I was here watching him get ready for the games. He told me that even the players sent him requests as they get warmed up. Here's also what he had to say about the energy and the vibes that he brings for the city of San Antonio.
I mean energy is everything you know with people like if you hear if I look around I hear it and see the crowd I just I have to go wild you know I have to turn up I have to play the hypothetic that I have so just try to match their energy >> but I had to ask DJ Quake what is the one song the one mix that gets the people hype right here at the Frostbank Center and he said it was a bit of a surprise it is none other than Amaros by the great Ramon Ayala Okay, good stuff there from DJ Quick.
Yes. And that's actually like an EDM mix >> where it's like So, have you been to the game recently?
Yeah. It's usually in the second half and so yeah, it's definitely one that he likes to play, but obviously he plays several different songs. Uh Kell's a big country music fan.
>> Yeah, you were telling me that.
>> Luke Cornet wanted Adele before the game yesterday. interesting dude. He did pregame and Harrison Barnes wanted some Michael Jackson. So, yeah, he caters it all to the Yeah. to the players and the fans there.
>> That is neat. I'm jealous he got to go.
Oh, and then here we have >> and the mini Wimby and Chris Hardcastle, one of our awesome uh engineers production crew over here, gave us a little spaceship for for Wim.
>> Yeah, good stuff.
>> Cool. A that's very exciting. I bet it was just loud there.
>> It was incredibly loud. Playoff atmosphere for sure. uh even like NBA Finals type of atmosphere. Hopefully, we get there. But all right, these guys have been bringing it too. The Spurs Jackals, they have been a hit at home games this year and they definitely didn't disappoint at the Frostbank Center for game five.
>> So, they unveiled a giant banner before the game called a Tifo. So, these are popular in European soccer and since the Jackals are modeled after European soccer fan club, they wanted to unveil it during the game last night.
>> All right, so this is my video that I got there. I was on the opposite side, but here's kind of the side of it. So the banner, as you could see right there, says locked in. And they told me before the game they actually had to place it on the top rafters for it to drop down. So these giant banners sometimes have like a message on them or a city skyline in the background.
Definitely something that the Jackals wanted to do for the game. And check that out. Okay, so that's the Wimby elbow.
>> This is before.
>> This is before.
>> Yeah. Yeah, >> that's the Wimby elbow. It's a spinning Wimi elbow.
>> That's hilarious. I s I was wondering what that was. Oh my goodness.
>> And they had a they had a chunk love to like stomp on the ant for Anthony Edwards. They have come up with so much creative stuff this year. Um and they definitely get the energy and they get the fans going before tip off over there at the Frostbank Center. Pretty cool stuff.
>> That is neat. Well, what a way to get everybody hyped up for sure.
>> Yes. And they that did they did pick it back up. So all those fans that were in that session, >> they got to see >> they got to see it and they got to see the game. Yeah. So the Spurs will next play against the Timberwolves Friday night. Yeah. That elbow spinning was crazy. Uh 8:30 again. This is going to be an Amazon Prime as they try to close out the series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
>> Yay. We got this Friday night, right?
Ready? Ready for more hockey.
>> Let's bring it back home. Let's start this OKC series up.
>> Yeah, I think so. Well, the time now is 9:40 and we're at 74 degrees for now.
You're watching GMSA at 9.
>> All right. Is San Antonio still affordable? With everything from groceries to inflation being up? We're going to give you a full breakdown coming up after the break.
Oh, welcome back. It's 9:44. Well, new consumer price index shows inflation is up to 3.8% compared to the year before.
So, with energy prices fueling that jump and on top of that, the city of San Antonio is considering raising its property tax rate.
>> We also have SAW asking for a rate increase as well. And it's not clear if CPS Energy will push one this year.
Also, with all of that going on, KA's Gar Burgger takes a look as whether San Antonio is still affordable.
>> Gas, groceries, the basics cost more now. Not that you need to be told.
>> Are you buy a little pack of red meat and it's like $18, $25?
>> How much is it to fill up? Fill up this.
I got to imagine 100 bucks. No way.
>> We are still relatively more affordable.
>> The head of UIW's economics department says it's getting expensive everywhere, including San Antonio.
>> So, relative to a lot of other cities, we're doing well. That's still not a huge relief when people are already spending at their limit and now experiencing these additional costs on top of it.
>> Are we feeling a squeeze or we feeling a crush right now?
>> It probably depends where you started.
There is a subset of people who are feeling a crush.
>> According to a recent report, San Antonio is the 10th most affordable metro area, but the cost to live comfortably for a single adult in San Antonio is a little above 90 grand if you can get a job making that.
>> They don't move to San Antonio to like get their dream job. They usually move out. Unfortunately, >> housing may be a bright spot. Kind of.
Home appraisal values in the county dropped this year and multiple websites show rent is down in San Antonio. But there's a caveat.
>> Even though we're seeing a little relief there, it's relief from a very high starting point.
>> And there's the uncertainty with property taxes and utility rates, possibly pinching more.
>> San Antonio has a reputation as an affordable city.
>> Do you feel that it is for you and your family?
>> Uh, definitely compared to other places that I've been in. I mean, I I feel like it it is.
>> Yeah, it is. It's affordable. I mean, it's doable. The question is, for how long and for how many will it remain that way.
>> This is probably not the end of it, unfortunately. Um, and something we know in economics is that people respond to future expectations. So, in part, prices are going up today because people expect them to go up in the future. Uh, and as that cycle continues, we can expect the stretch to get harder and harder.
>> Garrett Binger, KAT2 News.
like at the grocery store. So, a gallon of milk is still at $366 this week. It was $346.
Two weeks ago, we're talking about Walmart. And the price for a dozen of eggs here at Walmart, still at $147. So, that's good because about two weeks ago was $167. Um, as far as like the Tyson chicken drumsticks, they stayed the same at $3.72. And three lb bag of apples still at $2.97.
and the 5B bag of rusted potatoes holding steady here at $2.77.
All right, let's look over at our staples here at HB. So, it looks like the prices have uh they were pretty comparable to the week before, but we have a change in the milk and we have a change in the eggs. So, let's start with our tortillas at 1.24.
Those are looking pretty good. The bananas are 50 cents a pound. Hill Country Fair uh beef still at $549.
And here a gallon of Hill Country Fair me is $3.54.
So last week it was uh $346.
And the Hill Country eggs, this is what we want you to look at here. A $147. So they were $167 last week. So it's actually looking a lot better today than it was last week.
>> All right. Well, happening today, St. Luke's Baptist Hospital will preview its newly expanded and renovated emergency room. Hospital officials there say that it will make it much easier for ambulances to drop off patients, also leading to some reduced weight times for patients and the staff there as well.
All right. Yes. Uh it is a victory Wednesday morning, but obviously uh you know what, maybe a lot of folks got a little bit of a later start. Our little mini WBY right there >> has been hanging out with us. And so maybe they're out right now just uh taking care of some errands. And Steph has got the Papel Pic earrings.
>> The Spurs colors.
>> Put little WY on there.
>> Oh yeah. Where's my little Spurs? Oh, here.
>> I know there are plenty of Spurs earrings at different shops. I've been out and about the last few days.
>> That the Hello Kitty, the little >> Yeah. Go. If you're going out and about, maybe buying more Spurs merch for6 on Friday. It's still going to be a warm day. So, I wouldn't necessarily wear the long layered Spurs jerseys and Spurs outfits the next few days. I would maybe swap out for the shorts, the t-shirts, even some tank tops because although it's still sitting in the 70s this morning, it's going to be much warmer later this afternoon. 74 already feels like 77 because of the humidity. For most of Texas, we're going to be in the 90s and even the upper 80s because we have that heat high. 91 degrees in San Antonio later today. 96 Amarillo, El Paso, 91 Dallas, Houston, uh 95 in Abalene. And you can really see that heat high as it moves closer to San Antonio. This is a look at how warm we're going to be, especially compared to our average temperature. That heathigh is just sitting in areas of New Mexico. So that explains why the panhandle and West Texas are sitting 5 to even 11 degrees warmer than their average. Take a look at Leach, 11°.
Later today, that heat high is going to get closer to San Antonio, and that's going to allow us to be warmer than average. Keep in mind, our average this time of year is going to continue to increase. We're already sitting in the mid to upper 80s for our average, and that's going to continue to increase to the low 90s just by the time we get to June and July. But that high is still going to be the main weather maker for us here throughout the next few hours.
But that heathigh is going to leave by the time we get to next week. And behind it, we're going to see that upper level low. And that upper level low pressure is going to help bring in some of that upper energy and that rain makingaking energy. And that's also going to help with that Pacific moisture that's going to move through on Monday. And that's going to help uh reimburse and help us get that chance for some rain next week.
We're talking about rain not arriving till Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and through the middle portion of next week.
But we still need the rain. So, we're going to take any rain we can get. The good news is it is trending. We're going to be above average for our rain outlook for the next 6 to 10 days because of that area of low pressure just bringing in all of that moisture. So, we are still trending above average for our preip. Although we may not look like we're getting rain throughout the rest of the week, the rain returns next weekend. We're talking about Sunday night, we could start to see the rain through Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, even a chance to see some rain through off and on the next week or so. So, we'll continue to keep you uh posted on the latest forecast, but this weekend, you'll definitely start to notice the humidity associated with the rain chances starting to increase. And that's the only downside to this weekend other than yes, it's going to be very warm in the 90s. The humidity is going to be the main factor, but otherwise 90s, mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Wouldn't say it's too bad of a week in a weekend's forecast.
>> Not too bad. Back to the 90s, though.
>> Absolutely. Thanks.
>> All right, let's check in with SA Live right now. Jada's holding it down for us on this Wednesday morning. All right, looks like she's got some some shades going there. Jada, how are things looking?
>> Yeah.
Oh, goers go.
>> Gosh, go. I know you guys are excited.
We've been talking about it all this morning. Yes. Uh, one of the games I went to, they were giving out these playoff glasses, so I had to put these on. But I'm here at Pacos Tacos, and they got an amazing Spurs deal. Every time the Spurs win, the very next day, you guys can get a free taco and a free aua here, and you guys are going to want to check it out. I have been hearing all about these guys. Yes, y'all. But I want to talk about the question of the day because it's inspired by tacos itself.
Do y'all prefer crunchy or soft tacos?
>> I'm a soft taco girl.
>> I'm like Shelby also. I like the soft tacos.
>> Soft all day every day. Yes. All kinds.
But yes, soft.
>> We'll leave the crunchy for the tacos.
>> Yes.
>> There you go. There you go. Yeah. I got to say that you can't go wrong here with crunchy or soft here at Pacos Tacos. You guys scan the QR code on your screen and weigh in if you want if you like crunchy or if you like soft tacos. But we're going to be talking tacos all day. But here is a sneak peek of what we can expect later on in the show. I mean, this is one of their breakfast burritos.
And y'all, it smells so good. And when I tell you, Taco Tacos is doing it real big like we do it in Texas. Look at this big huge jalapeno. I'm not going to eat it that big that much because I'm not a spicy girl, but I am going to take part in the taco. So, do not go anywhere.
We're gonna talk about that deal and so much more. I'll see y'all soon. Go Spurs, go too.
>> And today on a new episode of Texas Eats Now, we are here off South St. Mary Street at Culture Cafe. Joining us right now, Cindy Veter. And these are Spurs cookies cuz we got a big Spurs W. Go Spurs go. Yes. So, you got Spurs cookies and you have a Spurs drink right here.
And you have some cookie lattes. Yes, it is a cookie cup.
>> A cookie cup latte.
>> Now, what was the inspiration behind this?
>> Something different. You know, they're always us is always different.
>> We're always unique with different ideas and we make it happen. It's always happening.
>> So, it's a cookie and a latte.
>> It's It's a cookie exterior with a latte interior. That's right. And this one's matcha. This one has a latte. Now, this is a Spurs drink that you have right here. And people could come out. They can get these items today. What is the the foam that's on top of the drink?
>> So, this is a cold brew and the foam it's a sweet foam caramel and butter pecan.
>> You buy the drink and you're going to get a free cookie.
>> That's the deal today. All right. So, it's the day after the Spurs when you buy your your drink, you get a cookie right here as well.
>> And then shout out to the bakeries that you've partnered up with as well. Now, you guys, it's not just here today on the show. We're also heading up to New Bronals. We're going to Old City Hall, which is a new restaurant. We're going to go check that out today. But I tell you what, I don't know if it gets any crazier than this. This is a full-on cookie. Look at And look at the size of this thing. I am so terrified of dropping this right now. But we got a lot coming up today. New episode, Texas Eats Now. 10 o'clock after the news.
Cindy, thank you so much. Oh, >> thank you.
