[00:00:00]It's December 1940 and the North African campaign of World War II isn't going well for the Axis powers. Italian forces had stormed into Egypt a few months earlier, hoping to defeat the British troops there. But instead, the Italians are getting pummeled in the Sahara Desert.

[00:00:21]>> By early 1941, Allied forces take down nine Italian divisions. They capture 130,000 men. for Hitler. Any sort of setback that happens to the Italians in North Africa is essentially threatening Hitler's plan to seize control of the southern Mediterranean.

[00:00:41]Hitler becomes furious at these losses that are happening to the Italians in North Africa. So he calls in one of his aces, General Irwin Raml.

[00:00:54]Raml is very popular in the military and in Germany. He has a legacy of success from serving in World War I and he was one of the German officers responsible for what we know as the Blitzkrieg.
