Uranus: The Tilted Planet With Dozens of Moons

[00:00:00]Uranus is one of the strangest planets in our solar system.

[00:00:04]Unlike most planets, Uranus is tilted on its side by about 98°, which means it basically rotates while lying sideways.

[00:00:16]Because of this unusual tilt, each pole of Uranus experiences 42 years of continuous sunlight followed by 42 years of darkness.

[00:00:27]Uranus is also known as an ice giant, made mostly of water, methane, and ammonia ices deep inside the [music] planet.

[00:00:36]The methane in its atmosphere absorbs red light, giving Uranus its pale blue color.

[00:00:42]It also has faint rings and at least 27 known moons, many of which are named after characters from Shakespeare's plays.

[00:00:51]And so far, only one spacecraft has ever visited this mysterious world, Voyager 2, which flew past Uranus in 1986.
