For diverticulitis management, five key foods support gut healing: functional protein powder with selenium and L-glutamine for gut cell repair, herbal teas like peppermint as antispasmodics, bone broth for soothing amino acids, fermented foods for probiotic support, and cooked peeled fruits and vegetables in season for improved digestibility while maintaining fiber.

Diverticulitis Sufferers Need to Eat This | Dr. Janine
Added:If you're suffering with diverticulitis, I'm going to go through the five best foods that you should be eating. Okay, let's start with number five on the list. This is a functional protein powder. And a functional protein is one that is easily digestible, but one that's actually designed to heal up your gut. With ingredients like selenium, which is really important for healing up those tight junctions in the gut, an important mineral, as well as L-glutamine, which of course is an amino acid, which is very restorative and reparative to those gut cells. Okay, number four on my list is herbal teas.
And one of my favorites for any type of gut issue is peppermint tea. And this is amazing. It's very restorative to natural gut function. It's an antispasmodic, which is fantastic, especially if you're having a flare-up of your diverticulitis. That peppermint tea can be really, really soothing. I like to drink it right after a meal, and it really does help with natural and great digestion. Okay, number three on my list is bone broth, and ideally from a grass-fed source. Any type of bone broth is going to be, again, giving you those amino acids, which are very soothing and healing to the digestive tract, and can really help with that leaky gut syndrome. Of course, with diverticulitis, this is an inflammatory condition, and that bone broth just seems very soothing when you're actually drinking it, and can really provide some of that protein that you need to get your energy back. Okay, number two on my list is fermented food. So, we know things like sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir are fantastic because they help with that healthy gut microbiome. And having that right microbiome in terms of having enough of the good guys, the probiotics, that's what the fermented foods will help to provide for you. This is going to help with digestion. This is going to help with absorption of your nutrients from your diet, maybe your supplements, hopefully they're whole food supplements that you're taking for that great digestion, and have that anti-inflammatory effect as well for your diverticulitis. Okay, we're here now. Number one on my list is cooked, peeled fruits and veggies. Of course, fruits and veggies that are local to you, where you are, and in season.
Meaning that your body has the ability to actually break them down when you're eating them in season. This is really important to cook them slightly, steam them as well. That's going to help with the digestibility, but still maintaining that fiber, which is going to help to move things through the digestive tract.
Instead of something like juicing, which may not be the best thing for diverticulitis, you want to go with the actual whole fruits and veggies in season, but lightly cooked. And if you do want to strain them, so if something that has small seeds, and all healthy fruits and vegetables should have seeds.
If it does contain those seeds, you can even strain with a fine sieve your fruits and veggies after they've been lightly cooked, and that will remove any risk of those tiny seeds being more of a problem for your diverticulitis. Well, I hope this list that you're going to use and start to eat these healthier foods, help to calm down that inflammation with the diverticulitis. Be sure to share this video with somebody who needs to know this information, but also I want you to check out another video that I have, and it's called the eight leaky gut tips you need to know. I'll see you there.
