Turkey Opposition Calls Court Ruling A ‘Judicial Coup’ Amid Growing Political Chaos | Race To PowerAjouté :
All right, let's now shift our attention to what is happening in Turkey. There's never a dull day in politics in Turkey as well. A court in Anchora has dealt a major legal blow to Turkey's opposition party, the CHP. The decision effectively ousts Osgur Roelle from power, the opposition party's chairman. The court order has announced the 2023 party congress that elected Osgar as the chairman and instead is said that the former CHP leader Kimal Kilich Daroglu should replace the ousted leader. CHP has now moved Turkey Supreme Court of Appeals in a bit to overturn the ruling.
The decision has of course triggered massive appro telling supporters that he will not surrender. Now, the opposition leader was seen addressing a rally shortly after the court's decision was announced.
>> If necessary, we will bring life to a standstill. If necessary, we will use our power that comes from consumption, but we will not surrender. I am not responsible for anything that happens here later. Anything that happens later, the responsibility lies with these coup plotters.
Nstanbul's jailed mayor Ekram Imamoglu has called the court verdict a coup against Turkey and democracy in a post on X. Imamoglu has accused the Erdogan government of using courts to stage a judicial coup against the CHP. The court ruling is the latest in a string of developments which target the Republican People's Party back in 2024. The party had won a huge victory in local elections over President Erdogan's ruling AK. Ozel has in fact been the face of Turkey's biggest street protest in over a decade that were triggered by the arrest of Immoglu who's still in jail and is battling an array of legal cases alleging everything from corruption to espionage and terror toys.
