This video analyzes how Hollywood's tendency to prioritize brand recognition over character authenticity in comic book adaptations can lead to commercial failure, using the Supergirl movie as a case study where the film's $170 million budget required $425 million in revenue to break even, yet box office projections dropped from $55 million to $40 million due to controversial press tour statements by star Milly Alcock that alienated potential family audiences.

Supergirl Is Now A BISEXUAL ICON According To Milly Alcock And The Box Office Is Collapsing?!
Added:The press tour for Supergirl has to be one of the worst I've ever seen for any movie of all time. Every time Milly Alcock opens her mouth, it seems like it gets worse for the movie, and we keep seeing the projections for the box office drop and drop and drop. It's reached a new low, which is going to be a huge disaster for DC if this comes to pass, and I think this is going to be one at this point that's going to cause massive problems for the families that might want to see this, cuz they're not going to want to see it anymore. It's getting too woke. It's getting too crazy. Let's get into the news in just a moment. Please hit the like and subscribe button. Join us here as we talk about all things fantasy science fiction and more. And Supergirl is a fantasy science fiction movie, but it's dressed up in a superhero sort of deal.
I do all three. I write all three. I've got a Flying Sparks, which is my real actual take on a Supergirl style character. And if you want to see what I would do with it, you can read it right here for free. You get a full graphic novel just for showing up on my newsletter. I appreciate everybody who does so, as well as a full sci-fi novel and a full fantasy novel. I give a little something for everybody, which is what these filmmakers in Hollywood refuse to do.
So, we're trying to build our culture on our own away from these corporate influences. Got 11,000 plus people on here now. I appreciate you guys for being here. Sign up in the description below. We have a lot of great books coming out this year, and they're going to be better than the Supergirl movie. I know low bar, but it really is. I thank you guys for reading, and thanks for being the best audience out there. So, yeah, every time Milly Alcock opens her mouth, Supergirl's open wing weekend gets a little smaller. Now, I I I I cut off my last uh R on here when I wrote this website. I tried to get this up fast, cuz this is breaking news. Absolutely crazy stuff today, but here's what she said. So, Supergirl opens in 7 days. Box Office Theory now has a 40 million opening weekend in play. That number was 55 million when the tracking opened. Oh boy. So, the slide and the press tour are now running on the same schedule.
Here's the complete Milly Alcock interview record in order so you can understand what James Gunn's DC Universe is walking into on June 26th. In March, to Vanity Fair, she said, "It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something people want to comment on. Simply existing, yes. We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women's bodies. I can't really stop them. I can only be myself." Okay, thanks for the feminism lesson right there. In April, she then was asked about online critics and she said, "It's from a lot of people whose profiles have no photo, who are burner accounts, or someone whose name is Dad of four Christian, which is hilarious to me. I mean, whose opinion do you really care about? Well, it's not Dad of four Christians who would bring their kids to a Supergirl movie, you dummy." Uh, apparently that. She followed up and a double down saying, "You're If you're pissing off the the right kind of people, you're doing okay." Wow. Uh, so she wants to piss off dads and Christians. Cool. Well, that's a great idea for superhero films. Great idea. That went really, really viral and of course killed a lot of family interest in the movie. We already had problems with it. The conceptual uh bones of this movie are based on a comic book from Tom King, which is really a subversion of Supergirl to begin with.
It's a nihilistic revenge story that's based on True Grit in space and it doesn't make sense in the context of Supergirl. Doesn't really feel like Supergirl as a character whatsoever if you've read it and it really does not exemplify what Supergirl is. So, it's in in the comics, they have it as an Elseworlds story, which means it's alternate universe. So, they literally just skinned some random thing that he wrote as Supergirl, which is the problem that Hollywood faces in all of their properties these days. They don't care about the properties and what they actually stand for and what they are.
They're not truth, justice, and the American way. They are whatever they feel like writing and then they'll just plop the brand on it and then hope you'll just watch it cuz it says the brand name on it. That's the problem that they're facing in everything that they're doing and this is one of the worst examples of that being brought into this.
They've also gone through a lot of different uh reshoots and test screenings and there's been problems with the movie. They've cut it down to like an hour and 40-minutes. It's a really short movie, which usually does not bode well because if they really had faith in what was going on, it wouldn't be cut like this and edited like this.
So, earlier this week, she went even further. If you thought that was going to be a problem and thought, "Wow, attacking dads and Christians was going to be the way to go forward and talking weirdly about feminism and the like is going to cause a problem." No, it gets even worse. She was asked whether Supergirl was a queer icon and she says, "I think I've played a few characters that might have potential queer through line. So, honestly, I'm kind of honored inside the binary of what we think a woman should be.
That's what makes it special, so exciting and so new." That's a lot of gobbledygook worlds word salad right there. Queer through line, honored for it, a binary of what we think a woman should be.
What are you even going on about? I don't think she knows what she's going on about. She just says the buzzwords.
Binary sounds kind of LGBTQ.
Queer through line sounds pretty pretty you know, forward or whatever she's trying to accomplish. And so, she just says words and then you know, the the LGBTQ crowd will clap for it, which is not a large portion of the people who want to go into this. And then she got asked whether she was prepared for Supergirl's queer identity in the comics. Now, by the way, Supergirl has never had a queer identity in the comics. This is all nonsense. I don't even know where they're coming up with this crap from.
This is something that was a wholesome cousin of Superman who's meant to be like a younger cousin from the 1950s who was just like a cute sort of thing. Had nothing to do with any of this stuff. Had nothing to do with like weird feminist agendas or anything. But now, of course, it's the 2020s, so everything is, right? And so, this is what she said. This is where it goes crazy. So, she says, "It wasn't."
As in, she wasn't preparing for anything. "But in the honor of Pride Month, as I'm getting all these questions." And then she says, "What This is This is the craziest out of all of them. What makes this film so beautiful is it isn't centered around a man and not love at all."
Wow, this sounds a lot like those Snow White press interviews, doesn't it?
Where it's like, "Oh gosh, you're ruining the story of this." So, we don't need no man. We don't need love. Like what a crazy nut job like oh but this sounds like a terrible movie immediately, right? But she goes further. Yes. Then she added, "She'll probably go both ways." So, Supergirl, according to her, is now bisexual.
That's what she's pushing on these audiences. That's what she's trying to say to everybody. Holy crap, this is an escalation a week before the movie comes out. Now, does anybody want to see this?
Now, the she's got like this like uh a female like pal who she like is helping out in the comic and it looks like she's got that here, too. There's a girl with a sword. That girl, I think they're trying to push as a lesbian bi or whatever and maybe they're going to imply there's some relationship between the two of this. If this is actually going to be pushing into a mainstream movie like this and we saw what James Gunn did with Peacemaker. Turned that character, another 50's character, 1950's character, and they had him have some weird drug infused orgy in it. Uh if this is what they're going to be doing to this type of stuff, they're not going to be in for a good box office whatsoever. The minute people see this, they're going to be going, "Yikes." And then backing away. So, what a bad idea.
Now, this tracking timeline runs alongside of all of it. When Deadline first published their projections, the film sat around the mid $50 million box office range, which put it on par with The Flash. Then they they dropped to 50 million below Flash. And Box Office Series latest model has it tracking at a 40 million opening weekend now describing as bordering the current floor. NRG tracking also says it puts it at 50 million domestic. So, if it goes right between the two, we're talking 45, which is one of the worst uh DC film openings ever. It's a big problem right here. The budget sits at $170 million by most industry estimates, maybe even up as much as $200 million. So, what Forbes said it was. And so, if it looks at at a 2.5 x to break even calculation for real for on the production budget, we're looking at around 425 million to turn a profit. If it's going to be making 40 million domestic and maybe 80 million globally the first week and it's going to drop off after that by like 50 60% it's not going to get there. This is going to go straight to streaming in about 4 weeks going to be a big big problem right here. So this film went through more than 10 test screenings as well more than any studio film this decade per Jordan Rooney. Three things were three different endings were tested. Three composers scored at different points in post production. The runtime was trimmed 25 minutes. Each screening introduced changes and this version is the result of more audience testing than any film in recent memory because they were really trying to make this work. Crazy. Now even leftist and feminist film critic Grace Randolph warned about this. She said if I were a publicist I'd be like stop talking for the love of God about Al Gore. telling that this needs to be shut up and like stop the press tour because it's causing a lot more problems than they might accept. Yikes. Supergirl the queer icon who's now a lesbian. Wow. This is what we've got in 2026 and they're still saying woke is dead out there but they're still going full bore forward these people and they're not going to stop because they always double down. So sign up for my newsletter the only way to fight corporatism in this crap that's coming out guys is with independent works. I've got comics. I've got books.
We are building it right here. One day we'll do films and the like I hope.
Please check it out. It's in the description below. There's a lot of great stuff for everybody and thank you guys for being here and supporting great independent works. We'll be back.
