Soil compaction after a big rain

[00:00:00]I don't like the plant after a big rain.

[00:00:03]Boy, that soil can get wet and that allows you to compact the soil a lot more. You can really squeeze that soil so tight, it's tough for young roots to get through there. Moisture doesn't want to settle in. A lot of issues with compacted soil. That's one reason we promote never discing soil.

[00:00:21]But, you don't want to go out there and plant and there's no rain in the forecast. There's no rain between here and California. If I'm using no-till drill, ideally I plant before good rain, a couple of days ahead of what the weatherman says we're going to get a half inch of rain or more. That way the moisture can just soak into those seeds.

[00:00:41]If I plant after the rain, that ground is already really wet, I'm going to cause some soil compaction.
