Ramboozled - Zoology SpecialAdded:
From Colorado State University, this is the Emmy award-winning Campus Television.
Owned and operated by the Colorado State Student Body, Campus Television covering the news, sports, arts and entertainment of campus.
Good evening, everyone. I will be your amazing host, [music] Tate Paisley, and welcome to the final episode of Ramboozled of this spring semester. The show where we put the best of the best against each other to see who knows the most about a wide variety of trivia-based categories. This episode will revolve around zoology, and we have selected three of the most knowledgeable contestants from CSU. Now, obviously, we can only have one winner. So, tonight it's going to be a battle. But, before we do anything else, I am so excited to introduce our wheel spinner for the night, CTV's very special GG.
Now, before we get into the contestants, our producer Natalie has a couple of things to say.
Before we introduce our contestants for the night, we need to go over our rules of this glorious game show. Okay, let's go. Each player starts at zero. Uh the first contestant to hit their buzzer after the question is fully read, emphasis on fully read, will get those points.
Each contestant has 5 seconds to answer after they've hit their buzzer. If the contestant answers correctly, they will hear this.
If [bell] they answer incorrectly, they will hear this.
Then, those points are transferred from the contestant into the jackpot.
Their turn is then over, and another contestant can steal those points. There are a couple of different questions scattered throughout the board to mix it up where contestants can spin the wheel.
Spinning the wheel gives contestants super fun power-ups that can either bring them straight to the top of the leaderboard or right down to last place.
And we'll explain the wheel categories as we go, so don't worry about that for now. To mix it up, our final question is a written-in question.
Thanks, Edward.
You're too sweet. Heading over to our contestants. They can gamble all of their points, and the one with the most is our Ramboozled winner.
>> [cheering and screaming] >> Look at this guy, he's so happy. He could be you. Uh Now, getting straight into it for the night, here are our three extra special contestants, starting with Madison Chaccio. So, my name is Madison Chaccio, and the major I'm in is an animal science. Yeah, what got me involved in animal sciences, originally I I actually was in zoology, and then I decided to eventually switch over cuz I enjoyed more of the hands-on experience, and [music] I'm someone who's such a visual learner, and that's what animal science decided to give for me.
Um I don't have high hopes at all, but we're going to give it a great shot, and we'll see where it goes.
My favorite thing about zoology is honestly just the biology about everything and just learning more about the animals and everything that just goes into animals in general.
My favorite animal, that is hard cuz I love all animals, but I would probably have to say like a Komodo dragon. Those are so cool. Fear me.
I may not be great, but fear me.
So, [laughter] Madison, love those final words, by the way. Thank you. How are you feeling confidence-wise in regards to your zoology knowledge? I know a bit. Um we'll see where that takes me today. So, that's all I can say. All right. Well, fingers crossed. Next, we have Zach Grochau Wright. Yeah. So, I started as an ecology major at Humboldt State University >> [music] >> in northern California. And so, for that, I learned a lot about plants and animals cuz there's probably ecology.
And then, I did my PhD in ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Arizona. What I already teach here at CSU is invertebrate zoology, and I think invertebrates are really fun to teach because they have all the like weird exceptions to the rules, like deep-sea worms that live in the dark biosphere, so they don't have any energy from sunlight.
They have chemosynthetic bacteria that help them get energy from hydrothermal vents. I'll go with the uh the ram's horn squid because it's the only squid that still has a completely intact shell, and you know, we're the CSU Rams.
Heavy, we're just going to talk about fun animals.
So, you got to tell me, what's so special about the ram's horn squid?
Uh it's the only extant squid that still has a fully internal share fully internal shell, and it also is sometimes called the tail-light squid cuz it has a little light on the top of its head that can turn on and off.
Well, I know where my money is being placed in terms of betting based on animal knowledge. So, it looks like it's going to be a pretty good show, but last and certainly not least, we have Ryan Connor. My name is Ryan Connor. I am a zoology social media influencer. I got involved in animal science, zoology in general, just through I was raised in South Africa, lived around a lot of incredible wildlife, and then wanted to explore a bit more of that around the world and understand a bit more about the nature that I was seeing, [music] and the zoology degree at CSU offered me the chance to do that, and so I've been exploring and trying to learn [music] as much as I can about animals since. I'm a bit concerned that it's uh it's going to test my test my knowledge a bit more than I [music] was expecting, so we'll we'll see how that goes. Uh Yeah, I've never been on a game show, so this will be my first time. Favorite animal has got to be an elephant.
They're just so intelligent. They're incredible animals, beautiful. Good luck, you're going to need it.
So, Ryan, you said you've traveled around the world a lot. Yeah. Where would you say it has the most interesting animals that you've seen? I love Colorado's wildlife. There's so much stuff, so much awesome plants plant biodiversity, animal biodiversity in so many different environments, like deserts and savanna-esque kind of grasslands, and there's the mountains, so it's really awesome. Well, you're making me proud to be a Coloradan. Oh, yeah. Let's do that. Now, now that everyone has been introduced, we're going to throw it over to a quick break before we head into the game show. But, don't go anywhere, Rams.
Uh we haven't even answered any of our animalistic questions yet. Will they ace them all or be Ramboozled? Stick around and find out.

Here are your categories for the very first round of Ramboozled. Starting off with, we have What the Mammal, followed quickly by Sounds of the Forest. Shortly after, we have Under the Sea, and finally, CSU asks. So, here's how we're going to do things. To decide who is going to go first and get to pick our first question, we are going to have an impressive test of speed. So, contestants, how do you feel about your reaction time when it comes to hitting our special buzzers here?
>> [laughter] >> All right, I love the wide range of confidence level we got over here. But, are you ready? Are you steady?
Go.
And it looks like we have Zach as our very first contestant. So, Zach, where are you taking us on the board? Uh let's go with Under the Sea for 100. Under the Sea for 100. All right, starting off easy. Let's see. What kind of fish is this?
Ooh.
Starting off with a difficult one here.
I'm afraid that was the Pacific barracuda.
Just a little bit of a a starter off here with the ocean. We like to keep things complex, but we're coming back to you, Zach. Where are you Where are you taking us?
Let's go with Under the Sea for 200.
>> Under the Sea for 200. Let's see if this one's a little bit Oh, never mind. IT IS A SPIN THE WHEEL. LET'S TAKE IT OVER to GG.
>> [music] >> Oops.
Jackpot! Wow.
>> Yay!
Well, Ramboozled fans, this is a once-in-a-lifetime moment. The second time jackpot has ever come up in this game show, and I don't think we have any any point value in the the jackpot yet.
We have yet to answer any questions [cheering] correctly or incorrectly.
But, hey, congratulations, Zach. You are the second person to have ever rolled the jackpot on Ramboozled. Well done, at least this year.
Well, with that out of the way, Zach, it's still on you. Where are you taking us? Uh let's go with CSU asks. CSU asks for 100 100, all right. We have CSU students asking these questions. Let's listen closely.
What is the only living relative of the giraffe? What is the only living relative of the giraffe? And it looks like we got Zach again. The okapi. The okapi.
>> Okapi. Okapi.
Excuse me.
That is correct, the okapi.
Well done, Zach. You are taking it home for the win here, especially with that early game jackpot. But, where are you taking us next?
Uh, let's go with CSU asks for 200. CSU asks for 200, all right. Listen close.
What is the oldest living vertebrate?
What is the oldest living vertebrate?
Ooh.
We got a hard one. Oh, Zach again.
Right before the buzzer. I'm going to guess tuatara. Tuatara. All right, let's see.
Ooh, I am afraid that is incorrect.
Do we have any more guesses? Oh, looks like we got Ryan.
Coelacanth. Sorry? Coelacanth.
Coelacanth. Let's see.
Ooh, I'm afraid that is incorrect.
Do we have anything else, Madison?
Going to save myself. Keeping it conservative, all right. I like it.
Well, it is the Greenland shark. Well done, that big old looking shark you might have seen in all those photos. We are still on you, Zach. Where are you taking us?
Uh, let's go with Sounds of the Forest for 100. Sounds of the Forest for 100, all right. Oh, never mind. It's Spin the Wheel. Let's take it over to GG. We don't got to listen to nothing.
Shield. Shield, all right. For those of you who do not know, Zach here can hold on to that shield and use it anytime he might otherwise lose points. So, if you were to answer a question incorrectly, he can block that point lossage with his shield. Or, if some nefarious ne'er-do-well would like to steal his points, he can use it for that as well.
Zach, we are still on you. So, where are you taking us?
Let's just clear out the top, Sounds of a Mammal or What the Mammal for 100.
>> What the Mammal for 100, all right. What is the fastest mammal?
And we got Zach again, quick draw. Well done. Cheetah. Cheetah, that is correct.
Well done.
That is a pretty straightforward one, but if you didn't get the hint, we had the cheetah print pattern in the background.
All right, Zach.
I'm getting tired of saying this, but where are you taking us? Uh, What the Mammal for 200. What the Mammal for 200, all right. What are the only two mammals that lay eggs?
Zach again, really showing your professor chops.
I I just the it's the speed, I think, is the the trick to this, really. Um, the echidna and the platypus. The echidna and the platypus, well done. That is correct. Wow, all right. We are breezing through these. Zach, where are you taking us now? Sounds of the Forest for 200. Sounds of the Forest for 200, all right. Listen close. This will be an audible one. What animal is this?
All right, Ryan. What are we feeling here?
Bear. A bear.
>> [bell] >> That is correct. Well done. Straight up bear. Sweet.
We got bears in here, all right, Ryan.
Finally, we're breaking up Zach, we're coming out. All right, Ryan, where are you taking us? Let's continue with Sounds of the Forest for 300.
>> Sounds of the Forest for 300, all right.
What animal is this?
All right, we're lacking in confidence.
Now, we would not have accepted just the answer bird, but if you had gotten eagle, you would have been right. That there is a bald eagle, symbol of America. We we got those here.
All right. Now, we have one more uh question and then we're going to wrap up here.
Uh, we are on you, Ryan.
Let's do CSU asks for 300.
>> CSU asks for 300, all right. Final question, never mind, IT'S A SPIN THE WHEEL. TAKE it over to GG. What do you got for us, GG?
Uh-oh.
Come on. Ooh, death.
Ooh, so much for those points gained. However, the thing with death, death brings our players back down to zero. However, if our players were in the negatives, it brings them right up to zero. So, frankly, Ryan, this might be a this might be a win for you here. But, that is all for the first round. That is wrapped up. Who's ready to put on the pressure in round two? Don't go anywhere, we'll be right back after this break.
Patriotism.
It inspires passionate debate. It's worn like a badge of honor, with good reason.
Cuz it means love and devotion for one's country. But, what really makes up this country of ours?
It's the people. To love America is to love all Americans. This year, patriotism shouldn't [music] just be about pride of country. It should be about love. Love beyond age, sexuality, disability, race, religion, and other labels.
Cuz love has no labels.
All right, welcome back, viewers. With round one behind us, let's see where our contestants stand.
Let's see that point value. What have you guys managed thus far?
We have somewhere in this room, there's a point value. We function on the Where's Waldo system, where you have to find the points out uh through your own merits.
But, the second round is essentially the same. We'll check out those points a little later in the show. We like to keep things a little confusing. But, now the points have increased for the second round. Looks like our contestant in last place has a shot to climb back in the game, Madison. Just a reminder, bigger rewards are on the line this round, but so are the penalties. So, here are your categories for round two.
Starting with, we have From Sky to Sea, followed shortly by What the Eel Was That, and then Guess That Outline, followed by CSU asks. So, we are going to play a a little bit of a game. I take that back. You know what, Madison, I think that it is only fair that you get to take the first question here. Where are you taking us now?
>> pride. Uh, I'm going to go ahead and do Guess That Outline 250. Guess That Outline 250, all right. Keep your eyes on the TV here. Guess That Outline for 250. What animal is this? Oh, and it looks like we got Ryan. A hippo. A hippo, well done. Easy first round question, fantastic job, Ryan. You're out of the zeros now, but where are you taking us?
Let's continue with Guess That Outline, but let's go to 750. Ooh, all right, a little harder. Guess That Outline for 750. Never mind, it's a Spin the Wheel.
Take it over to GG. Let's see what we got. All right, let's see.
This takes forever.
We need to get a SMALLER WHEEL.
JACKPOT.
OKAY, WE'RE MAKING A COMEBACK HERE. For those of you who do not know, uh that doubles the jackpot, the total points inside of the jackpot. So, if one of you lucky contestants here manages to get the jackpot once again, it's going to be higher than zero this time.
[laughter] I can promise that much.
We're trying.
But, Ryan, it is still on you. Where are you taking us?
Let's go from Sky to Sea for 500. From Sky to Sea for 500. What animal has the most amount of teeth?
Oh, we got Madison.
Oh, man.
Uh Would it be like a whale shark? Whale shark.
I'm afraid that is incorrect. Little little misleading here, but anyone like to steal?
All right.
Oh, wait. We got Ryan just before the buzzer there. Uh a great white shark. Great white shark.
Now, that would might have been what I guessed before I learned that it is actually Wait, hold on, Zach. I All right, it is actually the rainbow slug.
Very confusing, but they have a lot of teeth inside those little bodies of theirs. So, uh Madison, I believe we are still on you. So, where are you taking us?
Guess That Outline 500. Guess That Outline 500, all right. What animal is this?
Ooh, we got Ryan again. Springbok.
Springbok. Let's see.
Ooh, I'm afraid incorrect. And looks like Madison. Um, antelope. Antelope.
That is correct. Well done. Nailed it, front and center. All right, Madison, well done. Back on the board, where are you taking us?
Let's do CSU asks 250. CSU asks for 250, all right. Let's hear from the people. A CSU student asks this.
What pollinating insect has five eyes?
What pollinating insect has five eyes?
Little bit of a tricky one here. We're going more into entomology, but any entomologists among us?
It seems not. Strictly with the animal science and zoology. I'm afraid the answer to that is the bees. The lovely bees who give us all of our honey. But, Madison, we are still on you. Where are you taking us?
Oh boy.
Let's do Guess that outline with a thousand.
Guess that outline with 1,000. Clearing out the category. What animal is this?
Looks like we got Madison again. Coyote.
Coyote. Well done. That is correct. That is the coyote. Fantastic. You are back on the board and we are going places.
All right, Madison, we are still on you.
Oh boy.
Uh let's do from sky to sea 250. From sky to sea for 250. All right, what animal wraps its tongue around its brain for protection?
Ryan, what do you got? Woodpecker.
Woodpecker. Well done. That is correct.
I never knew their tongues were so long, but hey, at least they're keeping their brains warm. Ryan, where are you taking us?
Let's go what the eel was that for 500.
What the eel was that for 500. All right, spin the wheel. Let's take it over, GG. What do we got over there on the wheel?
Let's see.
Come on.
Shield. The shield. All right, Ryan, you have earned yourself some protection there. Feel free to use that shield whenever you might otherwise lose points. But, we still got it. Back to the board. Ryan, where are you taking us? Let's go what the eel was that for 250.
>> It served you pretty well. 250, what the eel was that. What animal makes this sound?
All right, we're lacking confidence in these sounds, but wouldn't want to run into that in the woods. However, you never would because it's in the desert.
We got a camel.
>> [laughter] >> All right, Ryan, we're still on you.
Let's go CSU asks for 750. CSU asks for 750. All right.
A CSU student asks this.
What is the deadliest animal to human?
Deadliest animal to humans. I believe that's going off of kill count.
Uh and that is Ryan once again. Is it a hippopotamus? Hippopotamus.
I'm afraid that is incorrect. Would anyone like to steal?
Oop, we got Zach. Mosquito. Mosquito.
Well done. That is correct. The great killer of man is the mosquitoes. All right.
Zach, we got one more question in this round before we wrap things up and go to the final one. Where are you taking us?
Uh let's go with CSU asks for a thousand. CSU asks for a thousand.
Keeping things difficult. All right, a CSU student asks this.
What animal oozes milk from their pores, not nipples?
All right, straight off the back. Zach, what do you think?
>> Platypus. The platypus.
>> [bell] >> That is correct. They ooze it straight from their pores. The duck-billed platypus in specific. All right, that is it for our second round of the night. It has come and gone, but don't worry, folks, we still have our final and arguably most important question. So, stick around and see who tonight's winners are.
Here you go.
Thank you. Thank you.
Welcome back, viewers. With a round two behind us, let's see where our contestants stand.
All right, let's look at those point values. Start Starting off in last place, Ryan with negative 1,250.
Guessed a lot of questions, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. In top place, we have Zach with 1,950.
And sitting in that middle position, we have Madison with about a thousand. So, now that we have our point totals, it is time for the final question of the game.
Contestants, buckle up because this This is the big one and this could change everything. But, before the question is revealed, everyone must place their wages on the board. So, you may place the amount of points you have and wager just that amount. So, Madison, for example, you may wager up to a thousand points. Ryan, you are in the negative, so you may wager up to the amount you have plus one, getting you up to at maximum one point. You have just a little bit of hope there, Ryan. I hope you cling to it. But, now, please take this time to write down your wages and we will see who will be tonight's big winner.
Will it be the professors or our two influencers? This is where we find out [music] where those college degrees went to use.
And the jackpot is sitting pretty at 1250. Would have been real nice if we had uh ran into that earlier in the show. Would have been [music] a groundbreaking moment, but I'm afraid our luck just wasn't looking that way. All right.
Let us see what your point what point values you have wagered. Starting with you, Madison. What have you given us?
250. 250. All right, not wagering everything. About a fourth of your total points, 250. Zach, what do you have? 51.
51. All right, really confident, not over wagering. We like it. Ryan, what do you got? Might as well go full. 1,251.
>> [laughter] >> Thank you. Thank you.
So, we got a lot on the stake here, folks.
Everyone is locked and loaded and with points on the line, let's see the final question read by GG.
All right, let's see.
Get out of here, man. Taking my job.
Uh-oh, wrong way.
What is the only animal with one ear?
All right, folks. What is the only animal with one ear? Now, feel free to write down your hypothetical answer to this very real question on your whiteboards and we will see who has the highest chance of winning here. Whoever gets this right gets the points they have wagered. If they get it incorrect, >> [music] >> I'm afraid they get nothing but negative points. This may break make or break it, folks.
I would like to say that if [music] our front runner hadn't been so conservative with his wager.
Unfortunately, [music] we invite intelligent people on this show and they uh they remain intelligent throughout.
But, let's see.
How are you guys feeling about your your chances here? Ryan?
Not great. All right, Zach?
A little bit of eh. All right, all right. Madison? Not confident. Not confident. All right.
Again, wide-ranging levels of confidence levels here, but that is your time.
Let's see what your final answers here are. Starting with you, Madison.
I said snake. The snake. Ooh, all right, keeping it slithery. All right, Zach, what do you got for us?
>> Uh katydid. Katydid.
Interesting. Never heard of that myself.
But, I am also quite ignorant of many animals. Ryan, what do you got? I wish I had an answer. No clue. No clue. You know, we never know. Maybe that's just a funny way of pronouncing the final answer.
And let us get a drum roll, please, for our final answer. Please, contestants, humor me.
Thank you very much. The one animal with one ear is the praying mantis.
Falls within all of those kingdoms, but the praying mantis is our final target.
I'm afraid none of you received that answer, so you will all be losing the points that you wagered. Can I use my shield?
Well done. All right, thinking of it.
Well, Zach here using his shield and his brain and blocks those 51 lost points.
So, fantastic job here. We're going to give my producer a little time to do all that math required.
However, I believe I can predict who our our final winner here is going [laughter] to be. But, I do not like making assumptions. We're going to We're going to keep it keep it clean and see that final point value in just a moment here. But, how how do you guys feel about your performances tonight?
Madison?
Not bad. That's all I'll have to say about myself. Not bad. Keeping it stoic.
Not bad and I have to agree. You ended up in a pretty good place here, at least prior to the the final question.
>> Yeah. Zach, how are you feeling? Uh like I'm not going to get fired.
Not going to [laughter] get fired.
Remaining employed by the biology department. That's a win in my eyes.
Ryan, how about you?
Honestly, pretty all right.
Could have done better, but Pretty all right.
>> Well, you see, with Ramboozled, you never know who's going to win, but let's see that final point total. What is the Ramboozled of the final Ramboozled show?
And it looks like, shockingly, it is Zach with 1,899 points.
At least prior to the shield, but I can't imagine that would change that.
Let's get a round of applause for Zach, the Rambooseled winner of our final show. Well done.
>> [applause] >> Fantastic job. That, I'm afraid, is it.
Thank you all once again for joining us here tonight on CSU's greatest game show, Rambooseled. Once again, my name is Tate Paisley, and I wish you all a glorious night Fort Collins.
