Am I the Only Fool Cutting Green Wheat?
Added:This is good stuff. My aunt just brought some watermelon out to me because it's only 85° with 62% humidity. It's warm today and the sun isn't really out. It's kind of overcast today.
I don't know where she got this, but it is really good.
I think it's a bit too early for locals.

So maybe this is Mexican watermelon. I don't know.
I could eat the whole thing. Well, I went shopping this morning at my local hardware store and got some goodies. I needed another battery.
So, I just watched a video um on a guy comparing different uh drill bits and drilling through different types of metal.
And by damn, the Milwaukee came in second place overall.
And uh so when I saw that, I said, you know what? I've got to have a set of those. So went to my local hardware store and got a set at a decent price.
So, what makes these different is this uh quad edge tip stays sharper longer. So, the video I watched, oh gosh, what is that channel name? He's always comparing different things and and he's very consistent in his comparisons and and how he does it.
and um I've I've bought some things based on his uh his comparisons and his videos. So, this is one of them. I'm anxious to give it a try. But one of the things he drilled through was a a car spring, a leaf spring from a car or a truck. I don't know which it was. And and those things, you know, are are pretty tough. And he drilled through that after already drilling through something else. And that bit still drilled through there. Okay, it wasn't the number one bit, but overall out of all of the things he drilled through, I think it the Milwaukee came in number two. So, I'm going to give that a shot.
And then I've got a set of impact wrenches or sockets, rather.
And I like this set.
It's a 1/2 inch drive set, both metric and standard.
uh deep deep sockets sixpoint.
And the reason I like this set, at least I think the reason I'm going to like it, it goes all the way to an inch and a half. A lot of sets will stop at 1 in.
Um but this one you get this the 1 and16th, 1 and 1 eigh, 1 and 1/4, and 1 and 1/2 in. And then on the metric side starts at 10, goes all the way up to 24.
So it it's looks like it's um a good set. And they don't skip any numbers here. 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24.
So all the way from 10 to 24 with no number skipped. A lot of times you won't get numbers. Is it number 16 or 18? You won't get in the set. Um and we go. Okay, we get the odd balls here. The 1316. We go all the way down to 38 and a half inch drive.
Um, so yeah, I got a decent price on that as well. That local hardware store, they they do a fine job sometimes, not all the time.
Okay, I think it's time.
I've pulled this out. I've fueled it up.
I have greased it. I think I've made all the adjustments I need to make to it.
I've got the header out here as well, uh, on the other side of the truck there. I've done everything I need to do to that. So, I think I'm going to get out here and cut some wheat this afternoon. Uh, we have a chance of rain tomorrow.
I'm anxious to see what the moisture is.
I'm not going to start out here because I do want to bail the straw out here. So, I'm going to go to the other farm across the way here and uh at least cut a tank, see what that moisture is.
But, you know, we've got some green spots still in here. And I don't know if it's enough green spots that is going to affect the moisture um a whole lot.
Um I'm not seeing anything right here at the moment. I mean, every now and then, you know, you're going to run across a little bit of green down in here, and that's just because of the weather that we've had. But when you take one of these heads and squeeze it, you know, we've we've got some small kernels there.
Yeah, it's Wow. We just we didn't get the rain to fill it out. And well, I don't know what it's going to be. I don't know what the test weight is going to do, what the moisture is going to do. So, the only thing to find the only way to find out is to get out here and try it. So, I'm going to go to the farm across the way there and uh give it a go and see how how it goes.
We're doing it. All right. Now, this is some of the green stuff I'm talking about. And I think this I'm just going to go around. It's a It's enough there that it'll screw this sample up.
But that's I think the worst place in the field. And that's only because it's next to those trees.
And now I think I can sneak back around this way.
I turned the camera on here with the worst of the green. When I first started in this field on the other side, it it was dry.
And you can see in the tank there, that patch I just went through, it it piled up a little higher.
And uh now it should level off.
Once this uh wheat gets up in the tank enough for me to reach and get a sample, I will stop and take a moisture sample, a test weight sample, see where it is. I think if it's anything less than 18%, I will cut it and maybe I'll uh put it in the bin and throw some air on it. I I've never really tried to put wheat in a bin and just throw air on it to dry it down. Uh, I should be able to if we get some decent weather for that.
That really doesn't look too bad coming out of there.
They're in my uh sprayer tracks. You know, we've got some green, but the rest of this is okay. So, I I can't risk the quality with that little bit of green there. Uh because what's going to happen is if it rains on this, each time it rains now, the quality of this wheat goes down. So, it's better to get it out of here with a little bit of moisture than to leave it sit.
I see just enough green in there that may screw up the sample, but let's get out here and look.
Okay, I got about 60 lbs on the test weight, so that's good.
Right at 18%.
I'm in somewhat of a dilemma here. I called the elevator to see if they have taken any wheat yet. And no, he hasn't taken any wheat. They just shipped the last load of last year's wheat yesterday, he said. So, their bins are cleaned out.
I I was calling him mainly to see if he'd gotten any word on quality, any of that stuff. Uh so I asked him, you know, with this moisture at 18% if I would have any luck throwing it in a bin and throwing air on it. And he said his experience in the past, he has not had any luck doing that. He said, "You've really got to have some good fans to blow air through wheat and to dry it out. It's not like corn.
And so now the problem I've got is it is Saturday evening at about 2:30.
So I can't haul any wheat until Monday morning and at 18% moisture. If you leave it on a truck until Monday, it is going to get hot.
And I don't really want to put this wheat in a bin. I'm only talking about uh maybe 2500 bushels if it's if it's a good yield.
It's hardly worth me putting it in the bin and then taking it back out for that. So, I I don't know what I'm going to do.
I think there was a chance of rain tomorrow, Sunday. That chance is dwindling unfortunately.
So, I may just stop today. I won't have quite a tank full. I may just stop today and then come back tomorrow afternoon if it doesn't rain and then fill the truck and then take that up Monday morning.
See, see where we stand with uh quality and moisture.
Well, it is Sunday and I am out here on a combine. You know, I don't like to work on Sundays, but I do want to load this truck and get one load into the elevator tomorrow morning to get an idea of make sure my uh moisture tester is correct, get a test weight on it. I don't know if they'll do any uh vomit toxin test on it or not. Uh, but I I do want to get an more accurate sample of what this uh quality is here.
I left uh yesterday's wheat in the tank overnight and uh it really wasn't it was a little bit warm, but it didn't stick in the tank or rather it didn't pile up. It all came out with no problem. I think I may have gotten the greenest of it when I went around the field.
I've got two good newses to report since the last video or maybe the video before that.
The first one is uh the copyright claim was released on my Democrat video.
Uh once I filed the second appeal within within 48 hours, I got a response from YouTube saying, "Yep, uh the copyright claim has been dropped.
Your video is now fully monetized." So that was that was good. And then the second good news is that our camera system at the store, I think I had mentioned when that pole was hit, cameras uh were not working. So I called my tech guy and I said, "Hey, can you can you come look at this?"
He said, "I can." He said, "But I probably can't get the parts to uh fix it if there's something wrong with it."
He said, "Try unplugging it for 24 hours and then plug it back in and maybe that will reset something." Well, I've never heard anything like that before. We had I had already unplugged it once and counted to 15 and plugged it back in and that didn't do anything. So, sure enough, I unplugged it and 2 days later came into the store, plugged it back in, and lo and behold, she whirled back to life and I have cameras working at the hardware store again. So, that that was good because I really did not want to spend $500 or $1,000 on another recorder when that one wasn't that old.
There goes farmer's daughter with a boat behind her truck. Hm.

Not quite a truckload. I'll have to get a little bit more to go on there.
and I've got a truckload and almost a tank full here on the combine. So, that's enough for a Sunday, don't you think?
The last two days we've hit a high of 89°. We didn't hit that 90° mark, at least not down here at the farm.
Corn is growing a little bit.
This is Sunday evening. Uh so 5 days ago we had a darn good chance of rain today because there was a cool front coming through and it the forecast was for a darn good chance of rain today. Well by Friday evening that chance had petered out to about 30% and then by yesterday midday 10% chance and it doesn't look like we're going to get any. That's unfortunate. I put that nitrogen on the corn a couple days ago, hoping to get that rain and get it in the ground, and now that's not going to happen. So, I'm going to lose some of that to volatization.
So, I'm leaving the combine in the field tonight with some wheat on it. So, maybe that will make it rain. I can sacrifice some wheat in order to get some rain.
So, our next chance of rain now isn't until Thursday. I think it's Thursday, Friday, Saturday, we've got some chances of rain. I maybe it's only thunderstorms, I don't know. But, um, a little bit cooler temperatures tomorrow only, I think, in the 70s, maybe 80, 85 on Tuesday, Wednesday. So, I would like to think if my moisture checks out okay tomorrow at the elevator, if it's not too terribly bad, I'm going to go ahead and cut this wheat. Hopefully by Wednesday, I can bail some straw. I'm only going to bail the one field over at the farm by next to the barn.
