When is the last time we had this long of a rainy stretch?Added:
Well, after such a dry start to the year, beneficial rain is in store for the Memorial Day weekend. Meteorologist Grant Skinner joins us in the WL Severe Weather Center. And Grant, it's been a long time since we've seen this many days in a row with rain. Yeah, went back to look at some data all the way through the back half of last year. It's been about 8 months since we had six days in a row with some measurable rain. So, this is a good sign for us. Actually looked at those dates, September 25th through the 30th. We had six days in a row with measurable rain. 1.2 2 in of rain during that time frame at RDU, 1.31 in in Fyville. The next 7 days for us, we could see even more than that. 2 in forecast from the weather prediction center at RDU and then 2 and 12 ines for Fyville. Could see some locally higher amounts between two to three inches of rain. You can see back to the west, we have some higher totals, which is good.
There's some areas towards the northern mountains back towards Boone that are still uh dealing with extreme drought conditions. Other areas and an exceptional drought now towards Boone.
So, we need all the rain that we can get. Of course, up from 59% to 65% for the extreme drought across central North Carolina. We need a month like August 2025, right before the drought started.
We got almost 8 in at RDU. Elizabeth, don't think we'll see that this month necessarily. Of course, we only have a little bit left in May, but we'll take all the rain that we can get over the next several days. Yeah.
