Iran To Turn Captured Reapers Against US? 'New Drone Hunter Can Strike, Return And Strike Again'Añadido:
Is Iran preparing for a more dangerous drone war against the United States? Is Tehran preparing to turn captured American drone technology against the United States?
According to Iranian media reports, [music] the IRGC has reportedly tested an advanced non-kinetic counter-drone system capable of neutralizing multiple drone swarms without the use of explosives.
According to the reports, the system was able to intercept and disrupt multiple incoming drones while reducing the risk of collateral damage. [music] Reports suggest the reusable interceptor can remain airborne, engage hostile UAVs, and return for future missions, providing Iran with a cost-effective and sustainable defense [music] against emerging drone threats.
Iran has reverse-engineered US drones in the past. As per a BBC report, Tehran in 2012 began building a copy of the US surveillance drone it captured the previous year.
On December 4th, 2011, [music] the Iranian military claimed it downed a US RQ-170 stealth drone as it was flying over the city of Kashmar.
A report in the New York Times on Thursday [music] said the stealth drone had been part of a US surveillance program mapping Iran's suspected nuclear [music] sites.
>> Missiles intercepted in the sky, burning debris raining down on a US military base, and millions of dollars in American military hardware destroyed.
A Bloomberg report has claimed that an Iranian missile strike on a Kuwaiti airbase within the past 24 hours caused minor injuries to several Americans and seriously damaged two MQ-9 Reaper strike drones. The attack allegedly took place within the last 24 hours and involved a Fateh-110 short-range ballistic missile, the report added.
According to the Bloomberg report, Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted Iran's Fateh-110 missile, but the falling debris struck the Ali Al Salem airbase.
About five people, including both contractors and active-duty personnel, were injured.
According to the report, >> [music] >> one MQ-9 Reaper drone was destroyed and another one was seriously damaged. The drones cost about $30 million each. The attack comes as US President Donald Trump is considering a proposal to extend a ceasefire that has [music] been in place since April. On Friday, Trump in a Truth Social post said he was ready to make a final determination on [music] a preliminary agreement. On Wednesday, Trump at a cabinet meeting had expressed confidence and claimed that a deal was near. Over the weekend, he even declared that his administration and Tehran had largely negotiated a settlement, though the talks are still in flux.
>> I was in President Donald Trump's cabinet meeting today. These can be marathon meetings that can go on for hours. The president today didn't want to call on all of his cabinet secretaries to try to move the meeting along, but it still lasted for about an hour and 20 minutes. At every seat in the room, there were red hats commemorating America's 250th anniversary this summer. The hats featured images of Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty and an eagle and an American flag. The president spent much of the time talking when he called on the couple of members of his cabinet, but he provided about a 10-minute update on the renovations he's been doing around the District of Columbia, including repairs he's doing ahead of the nation's 250th anniversary. The president also spoke a lot about Iran as a deal is being worked out with Iran to end that war. The president said that Iran thought it could outwait him, but he is not in a rush, and he said he wasn't concerned about the looming midterms and the price of gas. He even said, quote, "I don't care about the midterms." The president said in the meeting that he would not be comfortable if Russia or China took Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which could potentially be used to make a nuclear weapon. It's not clear what would happen with that material in any kind of deal.
The president also said that he thinks things are going well in the talks with Iran, but he said a few times that the US may have to return to war with Iran if the talks do not work out.
>> A possible breakthrough [music] may finally be emerging in the escalating confrontation between the United States and [music] Iran. As President Donald Trump has publicly outlined dramatic conditions for a potential [music] agreement that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and ease tensions [music] across the Middle East.
In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump declared [music] that the United States is prepared to lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports, but only if Tehran agrees to a series of major demands.
Among them, Iran must permanently abandon any [music] attempt to obtain nuclear weapons.
Reopen the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted global shipping [music] in both directions, and remove any remaining naval mines from the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical energy choke points, carrying roughly 1/5 of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.
Any disruption there immediately [music] impacts global fuel prices and international trade.
Trump also made a stunning claim about Iran's nuclear infrastructure. He said enriched uranium buried beneath underground [music] facilities damaged by earlier US B-2 bomber strikes would be unearthed and destroyed in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He further announced that ships trapped [music] due to the US naval blockade would now be allowed to head home.
But despite growing speculation about a peace deal, Vice President J.D. Vance has cautioned that negotiations are still incomplete. According to Vance, the US and Iran remain divided over several key issues, especially Iran's uranium enrichment program. He admitted negotiators are still debating important language in [music] the proposed agreement.
>> Yeah, you know, we'll see. Right? I mean, part of this part of what we're trying to do here is really set the stage for a successful negotiation.
There are certain details that are going to have to be figured out that are going to take a little bit of time to discuss.
You just take for example, even if you come to an agreement on, let's say, destroying the enriched stockpile, how do you do it? When do you do it? How do you actually get access to it? As the president said repeatedly, we did very effectively bury that stuff very deeply underground. So, there are a lot of details to work out, but what I mean is I think we're making progress. We're getting to a point where we could potentially sit down and settle these issues, but that requires us to make a little bit more progress. I can't guarantee that we're going to get there, but right now I feel pretty good about it.
Why do you think there's always a concern whenever you're in a negotiation um that you're you're you know, the other party is not actually going to meet up their obligation? They're actually not going to satisfy their end of the obligation. But all you can do is is try to verify, right? We we try to get things to the position where we're getting a good win for the American people. You don't take anything on faith, even the guarantee that they not build or procure a nuclear program, which is something they have agreed to, we're going to have to verify that over time. So, I think there's always a concern that the negotiating party is not going to meet their end of the bargain. That's why we have verification processes in place. I will say, and this is my last comment on this, if you look at what we've already accomplished here, assuming that we're able to get to a final agreement here, we're reopening the Strait of Hormuz, we've already decimated their conventional military, and we're in a position where we can substantially set back their nuclear program, not just during the term of this president, but over the long term.
That's a very, very good thing for the American people. So, we're not there yet, but we're very close. We're going to keep on working at it. Thank you guys. Have a good evening.
>> Reports suggest [music] the tentative framework would extend the current ceasefire for 60 days, allow unrestricted shipping through Hormuz, and ease sanctions to let Iran [music] resume oil exports.
However, confusion continues to surround the talks.
Iranian media reported details of an unofficial draft agreement, but the White House quickly dismissed those reports [music] as fabricated.
At the same time, both Washington and Tehran continue accusing each other of violating the fragile ceasefire, while military tensions remain high across the region.
