White House News | White House Shooting: Secret Service Shoots Dead Armed Suspect

[00:00:04]We're getting fresh updates coming in from the United States as [music] this hour. As we're learning that in the White House shooting, a 21-year-old gunman has been killed. The gunman was killed by the US [music] Secret Service.

Remember, the important and crucial update here is the fact that the US president was inside the premises of the White House when the shooting occurred. We're [music] also understanding that other people have also been injured in the incident and are being treated for their injuries. My colleague Pradeep Dutta joins us on the broadcast with the fresh updates coming in. Pradeep, walk us through the details. We're understanding that the shooter has now been identified. What do we know on him so far?

[00:00:39]Yes, sure. I do accept that you know, the person who carried out the attack outside the White House has been identified. He is 21-year-old and a massive beast. And for the last 18 months, he was putting up in Washington, D.C. This is not the first time when he has tried to enter inside the White House. Last year also, he had a run-in with the Secret Service agents. That time also, he had tried to barge inside the White House actually until he was arrested and later he was sent to the psychiatric for the treatment. But nobody had an idea that once again, he would be making an attempt and this time he would be coming with a weapon. This incident took place at about 6:00 p.m.

[00:01:13]when he came closer towards the Secret Service agent check post. He took out the weapon from his back. He opened fire. About 20 to 25 rounds were fired and he ran into Secret Service agents.

[00:01:23]They opened fire hitting him on spot and one of the bystanders was also hit by the bullets.

[00:01:28]He had been taken to the hospital. So, investigation is going on about the reason that why last year also he wanted to enter inside the White House because in the month of July, he had made an attempt. And what was his intention?

But right now, all I can say is that 21-year-old person who opened fire at the Secret Service agent check post has been killed. And for the last 18 months, he was putting up in Washington, D.C.

Secret Service agents immediately returned fire killing the 21-year-old suspect identified as Maryland resident as Nasir Best. Officials say the suspect had prior encounters with the Secret Service. An investigation is now underway.

[00:03:09]Well, one bystander was also hit in the gunfire while the US President Donald Trump was inside the White House during the shooting. Journalists inside the briefing room reported hearing multiple gunshots and were told to take cover as the area was locked down and heavy in fact barricaded barricades were put by the law enforcement.
