The Daikin AirHub zoning system, while designed to protect HVAC equipment by ensuring proper airflow across coils, suffers from significant reliability issues including frequent temperature sensor disconnections, communication faults, and power supply problems to its A2P board, making it less reliable than standard zone controllers for residential installations despite its proprietary protection features.

Why I Don’t Recommend Daikin AirHubAdded:
All right. So, I'm here to look at a Dacon ducted unit that has the air hub controller.
So, I um I've looked after this particular property for a while. So, I've maintained this unit. Uh that's why my stick is on it.
Um it's always ran fine, but I think it's relatively relatively new. And um it always ran fine, but they reckon it's not heating. So I just went to the controller, turned it on, and we'll see what happens.
Yeah.
So, I just went upstairs and realized that the actual controller wasn't wasn't even turned on. It was on heating mode, but um yeah, it wasn't actually turned on.
So, turned it on. I've come down here and the compressor and the fan and it's running.
So, um I'll just monitor it. I also noticed that he was using the controller in a way that wouldn't make it work. And I'll explain that in a sec in front of the controller cuz these air hub systems are a bit different. So I'll explain that soon. But yeah, so far it looks like it's actually not an issue.
Okay, so this thing is still running.
When I got here, the outdoor, like the outside temperature was 18.3°, but inside the actual house was 20, what was it? 23.4°.
It was already pretty good in there. So, I've put the set temp at 26° just to get it running. It's now been running for about like 36 minutes or something.
Let's just say 40 minutes.
Um, and still running. The outdoor temperature hasn't changed. It's still 18.3.
Sensing from there.
Um, the return air. So like the temperature of the return air is up to 24.6.
So this particular system has um it's an air hub. So it's got sensors in each room. Um so it'll just like adjust air flow as required. But in the hallway where there's no grill, it's risen to 24.6.
So, this thing is heating up. The supply temperature is nice and hot, too. So, it's working completely fine. It was just a user error.
I personally think that um it is a good idea to just monitor things even when you just install something just to see what they act like healthy because in my last video you saw how quickly the return air temperature was going up.
Well, I know that's not right because that doesn't normally happen because I just check stuff.
Um, and this is a good example. This has been running for 40 minutes and it's only gone up like a little bit.
So, that sort of confirms that the sensor there's something going on with that on that job from the previous video.
But yeah, I feel like when I was younger and doing my apprenticeship, I'd go and do a lot of maintenance, preventative maintenance and they old um R22 units and I used to think it was a bit of a waste of time. But actually, it definitely wasn't because when things were not right, I knew and could flag it straight away cuz I knew what a healthy unit looked like and it was actually a good use of my time now that I'm older. But I feel like it's always good to have one of these things if you work on Dacon. Um, my personal opinion is like you can get a lot of this info on the Dacan wall controller, so you don't necessarily need that. It does help when you're working on VRV, but um, a lot of the time if you have like the Dacan zone controller or the Daken Air Hub, you can't get access to all that information. It's just the BRC 1E6 2 or 3 controller like that. You can get all that stuff.
So, if you come to a job and they don't have that controller, you actually can't get any of the info unless you have this. You sort of I reckon you need it.
If you're working on as many air con as I do, you quite often you don't see that controller on the wall.
So, one of the things I don't like about the air hub is it's like the set point is 26.
You get the zones, downstairs 26, master bed 26, spare bed 26.
I just wanted to push that temperature down. You can only do it within two degrees of the actual temperature. So I can't go down.
So it's like set point 26. You can only adjust the zones within two degrees of that.
I don't know. I feel like also I don't know what temperature each zone is like it doesn't give you that information.
So, my honest opinion is that the Dan Air Hub is something that I'll never ever use again to be honest.
Um, I'd go like personally the Maya system instead.
It's just Yeah, it's just a Coroll controller. I just don't really like it.
This setup, I'm not a fan.
But I get why they um do it a certain way is because Dan's concerned about the air conditioner. It knows it needs a certain amount of air across the coil.
it. Whereas like the other systems that just control the system, like the third party stuff, that doesn't um like if you don't set it up right, you can close all the zones and just leave one open and there's definitely not enough air across the heat exchanger.
Whereas like this particular system, because it's actually their own proprietary setup, I'm pretty sure they just don't want all that stuff happening, which I totally understand.
It's going to turn off or So I believe this system is working completely fine.
However, I think the issue is more the air hub side of things. So, the amount of times I've had to go up here and repair the sensors, it's like multiple times. Just come here now cuz the outdoor unit works. It's operates as it should.
But this thing, that should be flashing lights. There's nothing happening there.
Um, yeah. Air hub, man.
Not a massive fan of it.
I honestly would never install it in someone's house ever.
All right. So that button on those buttons on the other side that should be flashing and just have nothing. So they basically come here and plug into this board. It's the A2P board.
Um so I just wanted to find out if that board has power. So I just been chasing it all back. Um, I've honestly just come to the conclusion that I'm not a fan of this and neither are they. Um, so basically, long story short, this um house used to be owned by the Australian Navy and um they they sold it privately and some rich dude bought it. So now just a whole bunch of staff work here just looking after the property. um, no one knows how to use it and it's never really operated that well. So, I just decided that the best way to sort this out would be to actually just put a normal zone controller in because this just keeps losing connection with the um temperature sensors in each room and it's I've been out here like three times with the same thing and now it's an even more serious issue where I don't know if that board's getting power. I've just I'm just sort of over just coming out of here and they don't need it.
They're just staffed. They don't know what's going on. So, basically everything's going to remain the same.
I'm just going to put a more reliable and robust control system on it. Not a fan of the air hub. So, all that means is I just need to get a new one of these that suits the Dacon zone controller and I'll just put a zone controller in. So, that's the plan. everything else can stay.
Also, a problem is that um if this thing isn't opening zones properly, it's going to cause issues with gas pressures and whatnot. Obviously, there's a relationship between the air flow and the gas pressures. So, when I was outside, I actually noticed that for a second it went on HP Protect. It didn't come up with a fault. you wouldn't know otherwise unless you were just moni monitoring the system with that Bluetooth tool. Um, but that's something that I observed and yeah, I just feel like once again these sensors, they just constantly disconnect.
Um, and in this case, I just don't think they're working at all. So the control of the zones is like in a nutshell just not working.
So it's not a zone motor issue. It's not this like Dan indoor or outdoor unit issue. It's the Dacan air hub issue in my opinion. So, just going to revert back to the the zone controller, which is that'll run for, you know, 15, 20 years or whatever, and you won't have an issue. It's it's just like let's just go back to the more robust, less fancy setup and scrap this whole controller thing. So, it's not like it's a big cost. It's it's actually just changing the controller on that board, basically.
So, this thing's at 30° set point and like it's just the zones. Don't know what's going on.
I should be ripping and tearing Essentially, just the controls of this air hub just don't freaking work.
These aren't doing what they're supposed to do because they're not. So, they connect to that thing up in the roof that doesn't seem to have power and therefore that doesn't work.
just doesn't operate properly.
Is that going to Yeah. rip this air hub out. Not a fan. Me personally, I've installed two of them in my lifetime. I was excited when they brought it out because I was like um yeah, I just felt like they' come out with their own version of this third party stuff and I always like to keep stuff um with the standard brand like the genuine products. I like to use genuine products. I like to keep everything proprietary. Um but yeah, I'm not affiliated with any brand. I'm definitely a Dacan person. I'm going to install Dacon in my own house for sure.
Just the air hub, not a fan.
