I've identified six types of overthinking.
There's mind reading, second-guessing, anticipating other people's reactions, comparing yourself to others, overanalyzing, and self-criticizing. Sound familiar?
And I say that not that necessarily people will memorize those, but just so that they can hear and relate to it that yeah, I do some of that.
overthinking chocolate cake. And the reason why is because sometimes when we're uncomfortable, we might reach for chocolate cake to make ourselves feel better. So, instead, we reach for overthinking. I want people to understand that it's really just a way of coping with uncomfortable feelings.
And so that anytime you catch yourself overthinking, right? It means that there's a feeling underneath that you're trying to cope with. And I have a three-step process for that. So, the first step is what am I feeling? So, you want to label the feeling. What is in my control? And here's where it's really important to be specific. The second one is what what's causing it? And that's important to be specific. And then the third one is what's in my control.
