The Future of GLP-1s: Patches & Biweekly Shots

The Medicare Bridge Program, launched July 1, 2026, provides eligible Medicare beneficiaries access to Zepbound, Wegovy, and Foundayo for approximately $50 per month through the end of 2027, representing the largest expansion of obesity drug coverage in the United States. This program was made possible through a negotiated net price agreement between Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, who agreed to a net price of $245 per 30-day supply, well below retail costs. CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz explained that while these treatments are major medical advancements, many seniors are currently unable to access them due to high costs. With over 69 million people on Medicare and an estimated 15-20 million beneficiaries potentially qualifying, this program provides a meaningful treatment option for many who previously could not afford medication that could cost up to $699 per month.
