Northern China is a major wheat exporter that feeds millions in sub-Saharan Africa, where many countries lack agricultural infrastructure and rainfall needed for wheat production; wheat-based flatbread serves as a primary subsistence food in the Middle East and North Africa, making supply chain disruptions potentially trigger significant geopolitical consequences, as demonstrated by the Syrian civil war and potentially the current Ukraine conflict.

Wheat's Global Impact: China, Africa, and Geopolitics #shortsAdded:
Usually when you think of a region such as East Asia, you typically think of rice, but in fact northern China has a lot of wheat-based dishes.
These parts of the world actually export the greatest sums of wheat, and they are responsible for feeding vast sums of people in sub-Saharan Africa, which by and large rely on wheat production.
After all, many of these countries in Africa and the Middle East lack the agricultural infrastructure and rainfall needed to produce such large vast quantities of wheat to feed their populations. The reliance on flatbread that is based upon wheat is a major source of subsistence for many working-class people in the Middle East and North Africa, and any problem that happens in the supply chain tends to cause significant issues as we saw with the civil war in Syria in the previous decade and a half.
I would not be surprised if the current conflict in Ukraine will cause certain geopolitical consequences indirectly down the line, as Ukraine is a massive wheat exporter.
