This video demonstrates how meteorologists forecast storm timing and rainfall distribution across different regions, showing that weather systems move predictably through specific geographic areas with varying intensity, and that rainfall amounts can be estimated based on storm location and severity, with some areas receiving 1-2 inches while others receive only trace amounts.

Another Round Of Strong Storms Coming - Much Needed Rain TrackerAdded:
After a quiet Saturday of weather, I'm expecting big-time rain and some strong thunderstorms to move through. Here's the timing for our area. Now, as you live in the eastern part of the Dakotas by Sunday morning, we'll already see some showers and thunderstorms rumbling through. A couple of these could be strong and windy, but the main event comes a little bit later. Putting this into motion as we go through your Sunday, they will sweep to the north and to the east bringing locally heavy rain, and then heading into Sunday evening, you'll see another round of storms develop from the southern parts of North Dakota all the way through parts of Minnesota and Iowa. Those could be strong to severe. That's the main event right there. Now, for us, we'll get some locally heavy rain from these storms.
There'll be a possibility of hail and all modes of severe weather in southern parts of Minnesota down into Iowa. But, as we go through, we'll get a little break in the weather heading into Monday with another round of some rain showers pumping into the region Monday night and into Tuesday with more strong storms in parts of eastern Minnesota, Iowa, and off into Wisconsin. How much rain are we talking? Well, the snapshot shows we'll have showers and thunderstorms as we go through the afternoon hours. Here's a look at the rainfall on Sunday only. So, notice the southern Red River Valley has a decent chance of picking up several tenths of an inch of rain. Let's say 1/2 of an inch to an inch or more under the gully washer thunderstorms that do move through. To the east, we'll see a north shore event as well as you get into Ely and on out towards Grand Rapids south of Bemidji into Park Rapids. Brainerd Lakes area could get some very healthy rainfall amounts. Where it looks like it'll be on the lighter side is in north parts of North Dakota with some places in southwest North Dakota only picking up a trace to about 1.5, excuse me, 0.5 inches of rain in some areas. Now, as we go into Tuesday, Monday and into Tuesday, the rainfall amounts were a little bit lower and more focused out to the east where we could see again an additional 1 to 2 inches in parts of Minnesota. For a game time event that looks like this, 1 to 2 inches or more from the southern Red River Valley and eastern South Dakota into central Minnesota. Southern Minnesota getting healthy amounts into northern Iowa with the thunderstorm activity there with lower amounts in the plains of eastern Montana and western parts of South Dakota.
