Mother’s Day Severe Storms in Texas: Large Hail, Damaging Winds & TimingAjouté :
Severe storms are likely this Mother's Day across several regions of Texas.
Let's tell you who's going to have to deal with what and when in this Saturday update of your Texas Weather Roundup.
Hi there. It is Saturday the 9th of May 2026. This video is going to be a discussion for the severe weather threat and overall timing of that threat for Sunday the 10th of May 2026, Mother's Day. So, let's go ahead and get into it.
And if you want to stay weather aare know when we begin live coverage tomorrow, make sure you hit that subscribe button on YouTube and hit the like button to help get this video out to more folks who might benefit from the information. Storm Prediction Center for tomorrow is expecting scattered to several severe thunderstorms that will begin developing well pretty early in the afternoon with a southward moving cold front. We're expecting by the time we get through tomorrow afternoon and evening into tomorrow night that we're going to have storm chances across really the southeastern twothirds of the state of Texas. Most likely zones for severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon as soon as 1 to 2:00 p.m. through the evening will be the eastern Perian Basin, the Hill Country, Concho Valley, Big Country, North Texas and Texoma, Central Texas, the Brazos Valley, northeast Texas, and the Arclletex. That does include places like Junction, San Angelo, Abalene, DFW, Waco, Colleen, Fort Hood, Austin, San Antonio, Tyler, College Station, Lufkin Center, Tex Arcana, up towards Paris and Sherman, back to Witchah Falls. And then tomorrow night, storms are going to move southeast into well the coast out on to the Gulf and into the Rio Grand Valley.
Tomorrow is not a tornado day in the sense of a big tornado setup. The overall tornado risk tomorrow is going to be very low, but it is going to be a big day for hail and probably a big day for damaging straight line winds.
Tomorrow has the potential with those initial discrete storms that are more out by the lonesome and with hail potential, we could have hail up the size of baseballs pretty easily.
Fairly quickly, we're going to see storms begin transitioning clusters and lines. And when that occurs, we're going to have a lot of juice in the atmosphere to support a lot of wind being pushed out by those storms. And the potential for localized hurricane force wind gusts over 75 to 85 mph will exist with the most intense storms tomorrow. So, yeah, we're back into that season where we have to deal with all that wind nonsense. So, let's talk about timing.
This is going to be off the high-res rapid refresh model for tomorrow, tomorrow night into Monday morning. And really, I'm just going to verbally talk over the timeline with you now. And we are generally expecting across portions of, you know, northwest Texas, western Texas, uh the rolling and south plains.
Uh late morning through early Sunday afternoon, we could see storms fire up in west central Texas. Uh again, as soon as maybe noon to 2 pm. Wind gusts over 60 miles an hour and large hail will be possible from that activity. We might also have to deal with a cluster of storms moving in out of Oklahoma tomorrow morning in northeast Texas and that could complicate the setup a bit.
Uh but if those storms do move in from Oklahoma tomorrow morning, they'll have the potential for heavy rain, some hail, and strong wind gust by mid to late afternoon. again, probably as soon as 2:00 p.m. if not a little sooner. Parts of North Texas, the Big Country, Texoma, including DFW, Brownwood, San Angelo, uh the Waco Colleen area, we're going to be dealing with uh by early to mid and late afternoon tomorrow. Storms firing up to your west northwest. Those are going to congeal into a cluster or line pretty quickly tomorrow. But with that, we will have the potential for very large hail and damaging to destructive straight line winds with the most intense storms.
This is going to be a pretty widespread event in the sense most folks are going to be dealing with showers and storms with this line, but not everyone's going to have to deal with mega big hail or, you know, blow down your fence type wind. And again, the tornado threat tomorrow is very low. We don't have a lot of low-level shear. Tornado threats not zero, but again, this is going to be a lot of hail and a lot of wind, lightning, uh activity again could develop by early tomorrow afternoon, 1 to three, and then begin moving southeast tomorrow evening across central Texas, the Hill Country, the Edwards Plateau, South Central Texas, the Coastal Plains, the Coastal Bend, Southeast Texas, the Brazos Valley, East Texas, the Arloex, and Northeast Texas.
So again, uh it's going to be a case where if you're in any of these regions we mentioned, keep an eye on your radar app tomorrow uh and start looking to your west northwest and you'll probably see a line of storms by mid to late afternoon. And that line is going to be moving eastsoutheast and probably about 30 uh to 40 mph. And again, some of those storms are going to pack quite a punch. And here's the latest severe weather outlook. And again, any risk color here means you're going to be dealing with the chance of severe storms. to just, you know, the higher risk levels, the more likely we are to have more rowdy thunderstorms. So, we're going to be here tomorrow with live Texas severe weather coverage. Remember, we're Texans giving you Texas weather information, and we're going to be here for you. Not a big tornado threat tomorrow, but we're going to have a lot of hail, a lot of wind, plenty of lightning, and heavy rain. So, if you're planning outdoor events tomorrow, going out for Mother's Day, keep an eye on the sky. You're definitely going to want to keep your car near a uh covering as those storms approach tomorrow evening.
And we're also going to have to keep an eye out for some very strong winds and some of these storms that could be enough to cause weak tornado- like damage. So, I do expect we'll be with you quite a bit tomorrow with live severe weather coverage. Make sure you subscribe to us here on YouTube. Uh we'll be on the Texas Stormchasers mobile app, Texas Stormchasers website, social media outlets as well. So, thanks for popping on in. We'll keep an eye on the sky and hope you will join us tomorrow to do the same. Have a good rest of your Saturday night and God bless.
