What if everyone noticed? What if they all think monkey stupid now? Then monkey see another monkey's life. Vine swing perfect. Fruit always ripe. Everything sorted.

Monkey have big dream, have skill, almost start.
Who you think you are?
Monkey stop. That voice. Monkey hear it every day. And longer monkey hear it, less it sounds like doubt. It starts sounding like truth.
Chapter one. Every monkey has it.
Monkey think only he has the voice. He wrong. Confident monkey has it.
Successful monkey has it. Monkey with the perfect vine swing, he has it, too.
Running quiet in background, like bananas that never end in the jungle.
Voice not always bad. Sometimes, it save monkey.
Sometimes, it the reason he show up when legs say stop. But voice also does something dangerous. Monkey nervous system cannot tell the difference between a real leopard and thought brain keep repeating. So, when the voice say, "You going to fail." Body prepare for failure. Chest tight, steps smaller, actions follow script voice already wrote. Scary part not that bad thoughts exist. Scary part, after enough repetition, they stop sounding like thoughts. They sound like facts.
Monkey carry that like it just part of who he is.
It not have to be. Chapter two. The noise.
Monkey brain built for jungle survival.
Old jungle, dangerous jungle.
In that jungle, remembering bad thing kept monkey alive. One wrong step, leopard.
Brain take note, store forever.
Now, monkey in different jungle, no leopard, but same brain. Other monkey say one careless thing, forgot it in 5 minutes. Monkey brain, store it, label it, put it in a permanent exhibit.
Genuine praise, gone in days. One small embarrassment lives rent-free for years.
Then, monkey look at other monkey's life on phone. Brain start doing math. They ahead, monkey behind. Something wrong with monkey. There is name for this.
Spotlight effect. Monkey think every other monkey watching his flaws, judging, remembering. But, other monkey too busy listening to their own voice to listen to monkey's.
Voice not truth. Voice noise with very good memory.
Chapter 3, the observer.
Monkey try to fight voice, push it away, tell it to stop. Voice gets louder. That how brain work. Suppress thought, it grow.
Try not to think about banana, monkey thinking about banana.
So, monkey stop fighting. Monkey watch instead.
You going to embarrass yourself.
Monkey write it down. Just that. No argue, no agree. Then, monkey ask one question.
Would I say this to monkey I love? No.
Never.
Monkey would never walk up to a friend and say, you going to fail, you not good enough, everyone watching your mistake.
But, monkey say it to himself every morning, every quiet moment, every time he almost try something. Gap between how monkey treat himself and how monkey treat monkey he loves.
That gap where everything start to change. Log floating down river, monkey see it. Monkey acknowledge it. Monkey not jump on log and go wherever it going.
Chapter four, the rewrite. Every time monkey catch voice, question it, choose different response, something happen in brain. Neural pathway that build the voice get weaker. New pathway get stronger. Not inspiration, neuroscience.
Identity built by votes.
Every small action, vote. Catch voice, vote. Write it down, vote. Ask honest question instead of believe worst, vote.
Miss one day, fine. One missed vote, not lose tribe.
Surrendering does. Voice was never fully monkey's. Built from old failures, other monkey's words, comparisons, jungle that no longer exist.
But somewhere it became monkey's and monkey has been carrying it like it just part of who he is. Slowly, voice get quieter. Not silent, quieter. And what it say start to sound less like a verdict, more like weather. It passing through.
Monkey still there after it pass. Voice speak tomorrow and day after, every day for rest of monkey life. That part not change, but what it say, how loud it get, whether monkey climb on that log and go wherever it going, that part belong to monkey. Always did.
