The Mitsubishi GTO with its original 6G72 V6 engine (under 700 horsepower) can achieve competitive lap times (6:19.2) through strategic tuning that addresses its inherent oversteer during braking and understeer on corner exit, using specific LSD settings (higher front initial torque for braking stability, rear toe out for corner exit looseness) and aerodynamic components (front splitter, rear diffuser, custom wing) to maximize its handling potential despite being outclassed by higher-powered rivals like the 300 ZX, Supra, and Skylines.

Can The Mitsubishi GTO Compete With Its Original Engine? - Setups For Simpletons - GT7Added:
Hello chums and welcome to setups for simpletons. I've created an entire series dedicated to [music] explaining Gran Turismo 7's quirky and sometimes unforgiving tuning system. But sometimes it's nice to just copy someone else's homework and be done with it. So in this series I will take one car at a time, show a complete setup and a lap of the Nurburg for good measure. Disclaimer, if you use my setup, it does not mean you're simple. Let's begin. My most recent setup video was a classic supercar with a Lamborghini V12, tons of power, and not much else. This Mitsubishi GTO is pretty much the opposite on its original engine. With less than 700 horsepower, and quite a bit of weight to carry, it's potentially quite outclassed by its JDM rivals, but you may be surprised by what this car can do. For the visuals, the car has the widebody fitted along with aftermarket wheels which are 2 in bigger than standard. Increasing the size can slightly improve the car's agility, [music] great for four-wheel drives, but the car will be unsettled by the curbs more. Reducing the size will give a slightly softer ride and a slightly more forgiving experience. I've just prioritized looks, though. For aerodynamics, it has a front splitter for front downforce. Both options are the same. It has a rear diffuser for front and rear downforce and it has a custom wing set for maximum rear downforce. This is a fully upgraded setup, so the car has every upgrade.
That includes power, weight, handling upgrades, the body rigidity increase, and of course, racing soft tires. The GTO has the potential to be quite solid, but it's [music] let down by over steer when braking. To combat this, you'll see some fairly unique LSD [music] settings. Setting initial torque higher at the front will make the car less agile, but it also helps with stability when braking. From there, increasing braking sensitivity at the front helps as well. Meanwhile, the car is prone to under steer on corner exit like most four-wheel drive cars. So, I've added some rear toe out to loosen the car up.
Rear down force has also been reduced to give this car some more agility at high speeds since it's mostly stable.
I featured the GTO in my underrated cars video recently. With its original V6 engine, the GTO is down on power compared to pretty much all of its [music] rivals. The 300 ZX, Supra, and Skylines all get over 800 horsepower, while the Honda NSX gets the same power as this GTO, but it weighs 200 kg less.
Even the Mazda RX7 has a better powertoweight ratio. It's a shame because in Gran Turismo 1, the various Mitsubishi GTO's got 900 [music] horsepower and were among the fastest cars in the entire game alongside the R33 Skylines. I guess the Escudo engine matches that original vibe quite well.
[music] But still, it would be nice if this engine was capable of a bit more.
Powerful or not though, there is no denying how well the GTO handles. Once you have a setup that deals with the instability under braking, this car becomes >> [music] >> ultra smooth and one of my favorite cars. As V6 engines go, it also sounds pretty good, too. The rear diffuser also gives the downforce boost to allow this car to handle high-speed corners better than you'd expect. I also like the GTO's balance on corner exit. Subarus and Evos will typically under steer when accelerating, even with a good setup.
Skylines will over steer as if they're more rear wheel drive biased. This thing just grips up and launches itself out.
[music] Either way, I highly recommend trying this one since it's not being compromised by the extreme power of its engine swap options. There was mentioned it could certainly handle more than 657.

The unswapped GTO got a 6 minutes 19. 2 seconds behind a 1,00 horsepower Panta isn't bad at all. In fact, it's the only sub 700 horsepower car to get under 6 minutes 26. If you're wondering, the car that got 6 minutes 26 is the Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer. Being surrounded by cars with 800 to 1,000 horsepower is very good going. So, that was my fully upgraded setup for the Mitsubishi GTO on its original engine. I hope it helped.
