50 Years In Prison For A Crime He Didn't Commit!Added:
When this crime happened, I was 23 years old.
The day I was turned 72 years old, I'm walking after 48 years.
I'm walking out a free man.
48 long years.
I walked around society being labeled [music] a rapist when I know I didn't do it.
>> While the wrongfully convicted sit behind bars, the actual perpetrators are [music] free to commit additional crimes. And we believe that is what happened in this case.
>> People just don't know how it feels to be accused of something you didn't do. And now I can truly say Now I can truly say that I'm free. I grew up in a Christian home.
And I was taught that if you did something, you admit it.
If you didn't do something, don't admit to it. And my mother told me, she said, "Son, she said, well, either you're going to go to work or you're going to go >> [music] >> in the army." So, when I got out the army, I was accepted to the GI bill to go back to school to get my high school diploma. And I was on my way home from school when I was pulled over by the police. They said that a rape had [music] happened. They were looking for They were looking for a young black male, and he said that I fit the description.
>> [music] >> When I was in prison, I really started reading my Bible. I was remembering things from when I was a little [music] child, what I heard in church as a little child. That's what helped me. That's what kept me going, my faith. My daughter died, and she never saw me exonerated, but my son So, he says He knew it wasn't my fault that I wasn't there. And I asked him, I said, "Son, forgive me for not being there for you all those years." And he said, "Dad, I been forgave you." And so, now our relationship, when I call or text him, I let him know that son, dad loves you.
And to hear my son say, "Dad, I love you, too." I thank God the time has been redeemed. Father and son and grandson, and I'm very proud of that. To see three generations of men. Free at last. Free at last.
Thank God almighty, I'm free.
