Ebola outbreak declared in Democratic Republic of Congo

[00:00:00]An Ebola outbreak has been declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Ituri province. At least 246 cases have been confirmed and 65 people have died according to Africa's top public health agency. Ebola is a deadly viral disease which is spread through direct contact with bodily fluid. It starts off with flu-l like symptoms which can rapidly progress to severe bleeding, brain inflammation, and organ failure. The virus was first found in the nation now known as the DRC in 1976 and this is the 17th outbreak since then. More than 14,000 people have died from Ebola in different African countries. The DRC and global partners are meeting to discuss crossber surveillance and response efforts.
